Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

I doubt Tim is making enough money to have any extra, anyway. He's an eighteen-year-old kid with no education, no vocational skills that I know of, and maybe no work ethic to boot. Add in his lack of open availability for a job, and he's left with pretty much the most menial of work.

But, see, Jesus will bless him beyond belief because he sent his Mama flowers!

Making “good money” is relative.  From the pics, it looks like Tim is living in shared housing, possibly subsidized by the school/church.  I’m sure Jilly grifted a big discount for her “godly” family.  I guess he pays car insurance, but with these folks, who knows?  I think his largest expense is tuition.  It appears that he eats very little and has no problem fasting.  He may not make much by the standards of most people, but it probably seems to him that he has lots of money.  I haven’t seen a lack of work ethic from any member of the Rodrigues family, except David.  I’ll bet Tim probably has a pretty good work ethic.  A little freedom, a chance to have his own money, and taking pride in being able to work are all great motivators, not to mention having Mama counting on him to make her look good.

Now being fiscally responsible, is another matter.  I’ll bet that every time he manages to put together a few dollars, Mama makes sure that “Jesus lays it on Tim’s heart” to bless the family.  We’ve already seen that he felt the need to send flowers and teddy bears because Mama desperately needed them and god said it was a great idea.

It reminds me of Robin Williams’ impression of a televangelist.  He says, “Doesn’t god deserve a Porsche and a Rolls Royce??”  The crowd responds with lots of amens.  Then he says, “And he asked me to drive them for him!!”  That’s Jilly to a T.

Maybe Tim finally had a tiny bit of good luck and actually dodged that bullet..... Perhaps that's why he got so excited that he sent her flowers. "Thanks for not showing up here, Mom!!!"

Maybe their last cross-country trip didn't result in as many "love offerings" as they hoped and she's decided that another grifting expedition trip to visit Timothy would be a financial loss.

Well, we know it isn't because Jill came to her senses and decided to send him the money she would've spent on plane fare to use for school.  Isn't she breastfeeding her latest blessing?  So, if she did go to visit Tim, she'd have to take poor brain damaged Janessa with her.  What fun for Tim to have her and the baby hanging around.

I really think Jill has done such an incredibly number on her kids that, even as adults and living away from home, they still are begging for her approval by sending her crap she doesn't need paid for with money they do not have.  I can imagine Jill making a big fuss during their weekly phone call complaining that Tim wasn't coming home to Mama for Thanksgiving or he was so busy studying, he wasn't available to spend hours on the phone with her telling her how she is the best Mama ever and he ended up guilted into sending flowers to sooth her wounded soul.  She is an emotional  vampire of the worst sort, IMO.

His hashtag named the florist company he used.  Someone on fg found the exact smiley face vase and yellow bouquet on the website for $46.99!  And the bear for $19.99 - $29.99.  Not counting any tax. No way would I have been able to buy that when I was in college!  I'm sure poor Timothy had to fast for days!

You are very frugal! I thought I was at $200 a month for groceries but you are a rock star (I also live alone).

Steve Maxwell has offered his readers a challenge. In his Seriously, Steve? column he offers this riddle:

Young adults are lost without it.

Adults may have it, but often it is misguided.

It seems rare to find the elderly with it.

Having it gives hope.

Money often gives it.

Sports often give it.

Marriage proposes it.

Death kills it.

Jesus Christ embodies it.

What is it?

Steve's answer next week.  Any predictions on the answer?

Something like growth? It still doesn't seem to exactly fit for Jesus, but the rest can work. This riddle has been way too much of a distraction for me!

Yes, Jill has really screwed up her poor kids.  The thing is though, that I hold the lovely Ma and Pa Turtleneck and responsible, too.  Jill is a first generation homeschooled kid, so some of the damage she is doing is just what she's passing on from her own wonderful parents.  When I saw the way Ma Turtleneck acted at that "funeral" for Amy, it told me everything I need to know about her.  I think some of Jill's behavior was learned right at her mama's knee.  It makes me want to punch that woman's face right off the top of that turtleneck!

I've heard about this infamous funeral memorializing a living person, but I've never seen it.  How did ma turtleneck behave?

This! If Timothy was going to send something, why something so frivolous? How about something that the whole family could have used - like something to eat? One of those big popcorn cans or meat and cheese gift boxes, or something!

Of even a board game or jigsaw puzzle that all the kids could enjoy and which would've cost a fraction of what he paid for the stupid flowers and teddy bear.

She was as into it as Jill and really relished all of the attention as the poor mother of a damaged (not how I feel) daughter.  A real mother would have put a stop to that nonsense and given some thought to how Amy felt, but it was a big show to gain attention for MT and Jill, but not Amy.

Could the answer to the riddle be ‘a future’?

Another great answer...I think a lot of us have hit on words which more or less sum up the idea of hope/future/growth/purpose/fulfillment...and, yeah sexual prowess :)  And in a lot of ways it hardly matters which word was used because they all take a little bit of stretching to fit one category or another. I do think it will end up being something like that, though, and both those of us who guessed something in that general neck of the woods and those who came up with great fits of snark should get equal credit.

It's posted as a video on her public Facebook page.  (If this was already posted and I missed it, I apologize.)  It's on March 4 of this year.  And, yes, it's just as awful as people say.

If anyone is interested, the video of the song Jilly wrote about Amy's hands is also on her Facebook page.  Look under "videos" and it's the fifth video - posted in the preview pic sideways - and it's 35:12 long but the song starts at around the 10 minute mark.  It also cringe-worthy.

A friendly tip for watching the Rodriguii videos - start with the sound turned low.

The only purpose to much of what Jill posts, is to make it about Jill, IMO.

Jill's sister was horribly, permanently disabled in an auto accident. I believe they held some sort of "tribute" service for her that amounted to a terribly tasteless funeral for a person who is still living.  Someone who's actually made it through the video may want to chime in with any needed correction or elaboration, but I wanted you to get some sort of answer, awaken.

That would have missed the point and purpose of the gift--to single out Jill for praise for being the BEST! WONDERFULEST! MOTHER in the whole WORLD! It's the kids' duty to keep reminding her. I don't remember a single time she ever showed sharing one of her Special Jill gifts with the kids. If fact, if Tim had sent a box of cheeses, she would have hidden it under the mattress for herself and, of course, for Studly McHeadship to get him in the baby-making mood.

That bleached haystack on her head hides the loose screws that keep popping out.

Only two sips of coffee and I'm already laughing at the thought of tubby headship stuffing himself from the box of cheese, hidden under the bed.  And then mounting his helpmeet with yucky cheesey breath!

At some point, I did watch most of the video. (It's pretty much impossible to get though an entire video without damage to either your ears or your brain, or both.)  My feeling, at the time, was that Ma and Pa Noyes had maybe said that more needs to be done for Amy - probably along the lines of helping with the kids, cleaning her house, bringing in meals.  Jill, of course, thought she'd do what she likes best - performing.  So, instead of real help, we got Jill and her brood banging their instruments and screeching onstage.  She also got a video out of it and was able to pin another star on her crown for her good works towards her poor sister, without having to do any real, helpful work.  All in all, it was a win-win for Jill.

Then again, this is the same Jill who decided to hold her baby reveal party in the hospital cafeteria when Amy was there after the car wreck.  That was the day for the party and she was determined to have it anyway so she commandeered a portion of the freaking hospital cafeteria and was there with balloons, laughing and crowing about her pregnancy.

And - yes.  Now that I think about it, I DO need a better hobby that watching the Rodrigues train wreck.

Do you really think Jill would actually put work into something? Well, she does have some child labor she can tap into.

I saw an article about a young Girl Guide in Canada, who quickly sold out her wagon full of scout cookies to a crowd lined up in front of a newly opened pot shop in Alberta. The Rodriguii brood could sell cheese, Plexus, and whatever if Jill were as enterprising as this nine-year-old. It would mean mixing with heathens, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I'm calling it now...Erin Payne (Bates) is pregnant again. She was just in Carlin's insta story and she had a belly she was trying to hide!

I just watched it and I'm really hoping the deliberate arm placement was just Erin being self-conscious over lingering baby weight. If she's pregnant again, she's an idiot.

She does say at the beginning "I have to hold my gut in", so it sounds like it.

Erin looks different. Maybe it's not the mile high Dolly Parton hair?

On the Bates blog they're talking about how Kade is reaching his due date like he was a goddamn micro preemie he was only a couple weeks early.

I read that too & thought the same thing.  He was 2 weeks early & weighed 6 lbs, 1 oz. &  was 18" at birth. My son was full term & had almost the same exact measurements.  No big deal in my opinion since he wasn't born with any problems.

So does Kelly really not allow her daughters to cut their hair short? Does she think they might get confused with a man or *gasp* a lesbian? Also, Josie ditched the skirts for pants 2 seconds after marriage, too bad she had to get married at 18 to be able to get a little bit of freedom.
