Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Kid of the week! Why bring kids into the world! Assholes!

Nurie  (and Kaylee) wrote about it when they stayed with the Pearls. It appeared in the No Greater Joy newsletter in 2017. Every time I read it I come across something newly weird. Like these from Nurie.

"This would be a whole week of very special treatment. So anything special that comes along that week would be given to the child whose week it was."

"All of us children look forward to our week. We enjoy thinking of our week coming up. We love feeling special and love the extra bonding time we have with our parents during that week. It is fun being the one getting to choose first and have all the extra little things that come our way, and even go on a date with Mama and Daddy."

Yeah, none of the Rods have a clue what a date is. But BME and DBD are always calling things like dinner with just adults a “date”. So if it’s two adults and one kid, yup, it’s a date. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Why do I have the feeling that the special activities only happened to come along on certain children's weeks?

In the Rodrigues household, having a special week means getting just enough food that week not to have hunger pains.

For BME and DBD, all weeks are special.

Because it's probably true.

I don’t think she qualifies with only Medicare Part A, but hopefully some services are available for her. They should definitely apply for Meals on Wheels.

I signed up for Medicare Part B last summer, having turned 65.  I talked to so many people about it and never heard of anyone NOT signing up for Part B.  Reading about it, it seems only those with super good coverage from their prior jobs, who are allowed to continue that coverage into retirement might consider not having Part B.

I am retired with continued coverage from my job and I still have Part B.

Tim, sr was self-employed so I don’t think that would be the case.

My own parents didn’t sign up for Part B due to the continuous monthly cost. It’s quite common 🤷‍♀️.

What is the donut hole coverage?

Reversed - A is hospitalization, SNF, certain testing, etc. and B is medical appointments.

It is obvious to those of us who have it.  :)  It even says it on the card.

Also point to ponder when taking Medicare.  Many policies that carry over from employment, require the taking of Part B to get full benefits.

Not taking Part B is rarely a good option.  With Part B the co-insurance for one of my monthly treatments is over $1500.  Since I kept my employment insurance, I pay zero.

If the parents didn't opt for part B, they are no doubt experiencing the regret that many people who declined it in their 60s have when they really need it in their 70s or 80s.

It's actually co-insurance not co-pay.

I hope the Rodlets at least got a break from church and late night bible study they have to endure when their parents are in town.

Maybe they uncovered the map, popped some popcorn and enjoyed a movie. Except that would never be permitted.

that would have fixed the RV without having other people pay for it.   I literally cannot imagine begging for money to fix my vehicle then taking off for a vacation where I spent this much money on MYSELF.

Part B also covers durable medical equipment and vaccines.
part A has deductible and and part B has 80/20 coverage and with deductibles.  That’s why many people add a Supplement to take care of the 20% and deductibles.  Part G for example. Buying a supplement locks in your total medical costs to a known quantity.

Part D is prescription coverage. There are actually some people who don’t  buy that part even though prescriptions cost a lot.   My spouses part D is less than $10 a month.  It’s  a no brainer to get it.
I just don’t understand why Jill’s parents would not buy part B.  It is  $165 a month each. How much have they had to shell out of pocket instead now?

Edited to include absolam’s  correction in a post below

Part C is the Medicare Advantage.  A combination of A,B, D.  It’s actually private insurance- Medicare pays them a subsidy.   These plans usually have co-pays and deductibles and networks and require pre-approvals.  Their premiums can be lower than straight Medicare because of the subsidy.  However the networks can mean you can’t go to the doctor you want especially if you travel.  They can also decline to approve treatments if they want.

Actually Part A doesn't have a 20% coinsurance for the hospital.  It does have some deductibles and co-pays.  I misspoke earlier and that was a coinsurance not a copay.

My guess is Jill uses these parent/kid "dates" to foster jealousy amongst her children.  After all, who wouldn't want some precious one-on-one time with BME and Big Daddy?  So I'm thinking that special week to Jill meant that she only had to focus her attention on one kid, leaving the care of the others to whichever oldest not-Nurie hadn't been selected as Kid of the Week.

Speaking of the purity lecture, Tessie turns 16 next month and Hannah will be 15 later this year. Time for a trip to mini golf or something, where public prayers and many tears can be witnessed, and the girls promise to remain trim and chaste until marriage. ☹️

Kaylee was 16, and Renee 15, when mama and daddy took them to the NICE Olive Garden and then to Burger King for dessert and the purity lecture.

Add me to those who are super confused about the Medicare stuff. I know that the insurance we have from Mr. Jyn's long career in the Navy means we have plenty of coverage, including free prescriptions if we get them through the base pharmacy, so I have not done a whole lot of research on it yet, but I will be turning 65 in January, so I guess I'd better get on the ball. Mr. Jyn is a couple of years older than I am, and has not exactly been following through either. Although the coverage itself is not an issue, he's been having the hardest time finding a primary care doctor despite having made a whole bunch of phone calls to every provider in the area who accepts Tricare insurance, though the vast majority do not seem to be accepting new patients, and most have not even bothered to call him back. But one cannot go to a specialist without a referral from the primary, so there's no one to consult. Urgent care places are about the only option, but you can't exactly go there just for a checkup, so other than a trip to the ER when he had a bad reaction to a bee sting a couple of years ago, he has not seen a doctor in the past three years.

The best thing I did is go to a Medicare insurance specialist.  You can go crazy looking at all the plans companies send in the mail.  There are people that only or mostly handle Medicare.  My guy goes through  my meds to find the best RX company, and finds which company has the best insurance rates that year.  I check in with him once a year and he reviews my coverage.  It saves all the stress and confusion of deciphering the sales pitches, and he keeps me up to date on the best coverage and prices.

With Tricare you can ignore all the Medicare Advantage ads.  Tricare will cover the copays, co-insurance, and deductibles from Medicare.  You will need to sign up for part B of Medicare.  Also Tricare has a mail order pharmacy program called Express Scripts if there's something you can't get at the base.  It isn't free, but reduced price.

I went to an independent medicare agent. It's important that your agent doesn't work for a specific insurance company for you medicare supplement; as they will only try to sell you those companies. The premiums for the supplement vary so it's better to go with a tried and true long term supplemental plan company. I went with AARP United Healthcare because they have a large client group and this keeps premiums down. I chose Plan G.....the best thing I have ever done to date.  Always purchase Part D, prescription plan coverage too. This will be for the rest of your life; not just your "now healthy" younger retirement years. If you want to change companies later on because you are suddenly sick, the other companies can deny you as you have to pass medical underwriting and if they take you on, your premium will have a surplus charge....you'll pay more every month forever for it. We watched many Medicare School videon on YouTube to learn about Medicare and Supplement Insurance plans..RX ones too. I highly recommend anyone turning 65 soon to begin gathering the knowledge. It's tricky as the government really doesn't want to pay you. It's a shame that the Rods, Duggars, Bates families will never have these good opportunities in their old ages. Minimal Social Security also for them.

I have the exact same coverage and  plan as you do.  So far, I have had no problems at all.  I just wish AARP would stop with all the mailings and emails.  I'm not interested in anything else they want to sell.
