Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Look at how rail-thin Tessie is. (I think that’s her name.  She’s the pretty one who’s wearing the long black&white striped skirt.) She’s skin and bones.  I hate Jill and David Rodrigues with a burning passion.  Feed your children, damn it!!!!

How long until Jill starts dressing like the doll? Imagine her on Easter Sunday decked out in all that lace and her hair in tight curls!

It's fun to watch the fundies' heads spin as they try to rationalize MT's soft core porn.

On topic: I hope the Rod girls get to keep their dolls. I doubt they're all that expensive, but kids have a right to have their own stuff whether someone else thinks it's important or not.

"Hospitable to our large family." Indeed. I bet the Hales fed all the Rods, even the kids, and probably let them use the bathrooms, including the showers, in their house. They are kin, after all. Do we know if the Hales are also fundie?

We know that Mrs Hale, sister to Shrek, wears jeans in sluttish fashion.

Alas, I think it is a very good bet that, as soon as they arrive home, all of the girls will 'decide' to give their dolls to Jill for being the best Mama ever.

It was kind of Jaynelle to let the girls choose a doll and do a certificate and photo for each one. How did she and David come from the same family? He doesn't even care if his kids have food.

Since Jill didn't get a doll, she's surely burning with jealousy. I bet she dropped hints about her favorites during the doll selection. Sadly, we know the dolls will end up with her anyway because only BEST Momma is entitled to have special things. She needs to get the addition to the barndo started soon so she'll have a place to display her new collection.

As for Pastor Stewart-Allen Clark, he doesn't seem to realize that it takes money to attract and maintain a "trophy wife." The kind of woman he lusts for isn't going to give him the time of day.

Yup I can see those dolls on JillR’s special shelf with all her other treasures. She may allow the girls to visit once in awhile but they won’t be readily available. Did anyone see a Facebook post by Timbits that apparently got taken down pretty quickly? I didn’t see it but on another site someone did. He filmed while he was driving to meet the rest of the clan in TN so speculation is it wasn’t JillR approved.

I think the gift of the dolls to the girls was very sweet, and the adoption certificates probably turned it into a memorable experience for them. The kids look thrilled. I am a liberal and a feminist and I still have every doll I owned as a child. My girls love dolls, all kinds, and play with them every day. Doll play doesn't have to mean you are only pretending to be a mother or a caretaker - I and my girls almost never play(ed) with them that way. That being said, I imagine the Rod experience of how to play with a doll is much different - but it doesn't mean David's sister gifted them with the intention of the dolls being tools to teach the girls to be mothers.

And for the older ones it probably is more of a special gift to treasure. As for adoption certificates, I have two custom made ones for my Cabbage Patch dolls (back from the early 80's craze), Luna Moon and Turlough Jovanka (I was really digging Doctor Who that year). I was nearly 20 when I got them.

Is David’s sister the same woman who is tightly hugging one of the Rodlet waifs in the fast food restaurant? I’m thinking she’s probably horrified by these kids’ appearance and tried to bring them some temporary joy. Unfortunately, I think that’s how Jill manages to keep the grift going.

I can't remember if it was Janelle or the other sister Nikki (Nicole) that did a keg stand in her wedding gown. David's brother Daniel made a comment about it on his fb page way, way back.

Me too. Nobody takes pity on kids with plump cheeks and well-fitted clothing. The Rodlets looking like 19th century orphans is all part of Jill's con.

I think the hugging woman is someone from the Cleghorn family, a family they met up with on their travels home. I can't find the post now. The same principle applies however; Jill uses the waifs to get kind people to feed and entertain the whole family.

I wasn’t bashing dolls and it was nice of David’s sister to think of it. It just would be nice to see someone give them a chemistry set. A play medical bag with a stethoscope. A microscope. A set of legos. Hell, a nurse’s uniform. Something that might get them thinking about other paths. That’s all.

Dolls were my favorite playthings as a kid and I still have several of my favorites.  My sisters and I played house.  My oldest sister was the mom, I was always the dad and always went off to work and then came home and played with our 'kids' which included our dolls and our younger brother and sister.  Funnily, enough, my older sister grew up to be a stay at home mom and homemaker and I grew up and went to work each day.

There is nothing wrong with playing with dolls, including playing at parenting them.  Most kids are going to grow up and become a mother or father someday and it's one of  the most important jobs they'll ever have.  Practicing family life as a parent is a perfectly worthwhile skill to hone for a kid; just as important as any other activity.

I don't think Jill and Shrek would have allowed them to accept those sorts of gifts.  I expect that Jill's SIL knew that and went with gifts that their parents would potentially let them keep.

I agree, I think the SIL went with what she had on hand and what she knew Shrek and JRod would allow the girls to have. I would have loved for them to receive a book or chemistry set or puzzles or anything that would broaden and expand their minds, but I don't think they would have been allowed to accept it. The only way those sad little girls are going to be able to expand their minds is to get out of that house, but we all know that's probably not going to happen.

Its funny, when I was younger I was never into dolls, yet if you asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I always answered, A mom and (fill in the blank).

As for those dolls, no offense to anyone, but of all the types of dolls in the world, I find those the least appealing and some of them down right scary. The little one Janessa has is kind of cute though.

Also, I think Jill would accept STEM gifts, but would then quickly take them and give them to the boys or use them for 'school'.

One Christmas (back in the late 1960s), my sister requested "a dark-haired Barbie and a dark-haired Ken". When they arrived, they were quickly re-named "Mrs. Emma Peel" and "John Steed" and spent their time exchanging witty banter while keeping England safe from enemy agents. Something the Duggar and J-Rod girls would never be able to do.

I love that!  I was a Barbie girl, too.  I kept my childhood dolls, and I never had to worry about my mom taking them away, although she did Goodwill most of my other playthings, or gave them to neighbor kids.

I hope the girls get to keep their dolls, and it's nice that someone thought enough of them to make them happy.

Maybe they can use the “adoption” certificates against Jill when she tries to take away their newly adopted dolls. Maybe their aunt had this in the back of her mind when she made the adoption paperwork.

Completely agree! Especially for children like these, who have a very difficult homelife and probably need some kind of outlet to understand it, too.

Based on these dolls, I think the aunt is a doll collector. I think the girls probably know that she treasures her collection, so it makes them feel treasured to be given a doll from it.

Chemistry sets are good and all, but dolls are different because you're supposed to love and take care of them. I think emotionally, this is probably a much better gift for these particular kids. You can't hug a chemistry set and tell it your secrets, you know?

In an ideal world, they would be given emotional AND educational support and it wouldn't be an either/or question. But that's not where they're at...

And let's be real, Jill isn't going to let them keep any gifts anyway. Jill gets the gifts, the kids are the givers. Remember the baby who got the "present" of a half-finished bag of diapers for her birthday? Or Tim's clearance "Merry Christmas!" wall plaque that he got for Xmas? God these people.

Yummy. Guests mean the tall pot of beige slop and that beige mystery casserole nobody likes enough to finish will make an appearance. The guests will bring a cake for dessert and possibly some meat to offset the salt and starch.

The main cart contains the real meal: canned soup, milk, potatoes, pasta, and a small bag of shredded cheese. There's no way cheap Jill bought all those vegetables, even for guests.

Her post also reminds why I wash produce very carefully.

even if the lettuce and some peppers and/or tomatoes were actually for a salad to go with a family meal there are 14 of them. 7 who are adults or older teens. 2 heads of lettuce and a few peppers/tomatoes is not much.

the boys eying all the cakes/baked goods at the end of the video made me sad because you know they didn't get one of those

According to Jill, Janessa had a stroke in utero, and is also missing her corpus callosum.  We have never  heard a medical follow up, just that Janessa was healed.  It is possible that she has some physical problems that are not being medically followed.

I think it's possible that several of her kids have undiagnosed medical issues that have gone untreated, not to mention mental health issues.  I cannot imagine growing up in a home where if I'm feeling ill in any way, I would be told that my faith simply isn't strong enough.

I hope that in a few years' time, we all get to watch the 10-part Netflix series, "I Escaped: The Story of the Rodrigues Children."

Oh, yes. One of the little indentured servants opened the packets with her teeth too.

Jill must have come back from the Florida trip with shopping bags of free condiments from restaurant meals paid for by family and church people. It's time to have the Dinguses over for "dinner" so Jill can try to grift some beef for David.
