Whatever the darkest shade of green exists, I am right now. So envious of that! But at least there's Youtube for those of us too late into the love and in the wrong country too.

Well I was too late/too young as well really. I saw Split Enz in 2006 during their reunion tour. Seven times. I went all around Australia in my gap year, it was amazing. I've only seen a reformed Crowded House. I wish I was 10-15 years older when it comes to my music taste and concerts I would have loved to have gone to.

If it's any consolation, I was at prime concert age to see Split Enz and Crowded House in their first incarnations, but totally missed the opportunities to do so.  What a jerk!!

I remembered two concerts I forgot to list initially:

Elvis Costello with The Replacements opening - an angry, raunchy (well, the opening act, anyway), amazing night of music in a park setting (bring your own blanket).  Both acts played good, long sets, possibly because it was a perfect coolish summer night.

They Might Be Giants - They did a kids' matinee show and an adult evening show.  But they kept the confetti cannon around for the second show -- it was really, really fun, wish I had one of my own -- and passed around foam #1 fingers left over from the earlier show, so there were lots of adults (myself included, of course) acting kind of like idiots and having a great time.

Also went to a 20 Bands for $20  all-day show when I was way too old for that stuff.  Among the name bands were Blondie, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Echo and the Bunnymen, and one or two other who were pretty big at the time but I don't recall.  The rest of the bill was filled out by local and regional bands, and some of the local ones (like Mighty Purple) were very good to excellent.  Also got to ride the roller coaster (it was at Riverside Park, now a Six Flags) with some of the Blondie people, but not Deborah Harry.  And our niece was absolutely mortified to run into us there.  But that's why it's fun to be an aunt.

ETA:  Better Than Ezra and Moby are the ones I forgot

I am so jealous that you got to see The Replacements (and Elvis Costello, but mostly the Replacements), Let It Be is easily in my top 10 albums of all time.

I saw They Might Be Giants last year and they were awesome, sadly the gig I attended lacked a confetti cannon.

I got to see Crowded House on there first tour - it was at The Horden Pavillion is Sydney and saw Paul Kelly many many times.

Some great Aussie bands over the years - Hoo Doo Gurus, Nick Cave, The Saints, INXS, Midnight Oil, Hunters and Collectors just to name a few.

The Church - how could I forget them!

i came to The Replacements later than Let It Be (I had a bad, controlling boyfriend in the early '80s, if that makes any sense); I think I picked them up around Pleased to Meet Me.  The band is doing a reunion tour (of sorts, obviously) that just played in NY, but I missed it.

Aiming for Yoko, I don't know if it was drink, drugs or anger, but the show was freakin' awesome.   One song they started into, then about eight bars in, Westerberg screams "Can we please try and play the same fucking song?" and they start over.   Later, there was casual remarking about various women's physical attributes.  Great music, and added entertainment.

Speaking of great Australian bands, I forgot to add The Go-Betweens to my initial list. I got to see them twice in 2005, once at Homebake and once at the Metro in Sydney.

The Go-Betweens aww so many memories saw them many times back in the day and also saw them in 2005 in Brighton UK.

Saw Cold Chisel in 2011 at Hyde Park at Hard Rock Calling - very surreal experience loads of Aussies there and loads of singing was a great show. Jimmy Barnes seemed stunned by how many Aussies were there singing their hearts out!

Genesis, 1987, Invisible Touch tour at the L.A. Forum....GREAT show!!! Concert started at 11PM because Mike was flying back from his father's funeral in England. Didn't end until 2AM!!! Phil sings even better live that he does on record, and his drumming on the instrumental songs was amazing!!

Stone Temple Pilots are the best live band I have ever seen!!

I've seen:

Steps (twice in 2012 which was amazing, 'cause I was too young to see them on my own the first time they were around, and no-one would take me. Seeing them was like a dream come true for me, especially as the first time was the day before my birthday)

Cradle of Filth

Evanescence (they were really good, but Amy's voice was going, and I was worried that she was going to lose it before the end of the night)
The Pretty Reckless (they opened for Evanescence)

And I'm seeing Poets of the Fall on Sunday, and I'm so excited. I never thought I'd get to see them, as they've never been around the UK or anywhere close till now

In semi-chronological order, so I can get the shameful out first...

KC & the Sunshine Band (shut up!  I was 11 and it was the 70s!)

The Fixx  -  2x (once at a Halloween Fest when they were touring with the Police, once at Ft Laud Beach during spring break)

Tom Petty

Jimmy Buffett

The Who - B52s opened for them which was a total WTF?

U2 - 3x (Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, Zoo TV)

David Bowie - 3x (Serious Moonlight, Glass Spider, Sound + Vision)

Elvis Costello - 2x

Midnight Oil

The Police (reunion tour.  Opening act - Foo Fighters!!!!)

Sprinsteen - Born to Run

Rolling Stones - Steel Wheels

Simply Red - small club venue, Mick Hucknail's voice was phenomenal

Smithereens - same small club as Simply Red.  Good live show.

Best performance IMO was Foo Fighters who played an incredible set and generated such energy in freakin' Dodger Stadium.

ETA:  Concerts I most regret missing:  Peter Frampton (Frampton Comes Alive) because my totally unreasonable parents would not let 13 yo me go with the older kids from the neighborhood (16 - 18, multiple arrests among the group).  I missed the U2 War Tour because of college finals.

Ooh, Arabesque, I would love to see Carolina Chocolate Drops! Are they as great as I imagine?

Maybe even greater :)

It was an amazing show.  Great musical talent and highly entertaining.  The kinetic energy from that show ran through me all the way home and made it hard to go to sleep.  I will go see them again next time they come to town.  If you get the chance go see them.

When didn't he?  I like most of their albums (not GNR Lies), and enjoyed the Appetite for Destruction concert I saw, but the protracted Use Your Illusion tour was such a debacle I never saw them again.  What a waste.

Garth Brooks
Linkin Park(twice)
Justin Timberlake

Shania Twain

Simple Plan, Ryan Cabrerra, Coolio, Kevin Lyttle (it was a Jingle Ball concert)

I'm not a big concert person putting anything musical theatre aside. I would say that was first real concert was Oh Land. Honestly, I think most of the singers I like wouldn't sound as good live as they do on their albums. And I have better things to spend my money on than watching pop acts lip-sync.

I'm an 80's teen, so my list is 80's heavy.  Plus back then, tickets were $15 or less, so it was easy to see concerts & to see ones we liked over & over.  Ones I've seen over & over from the 80's until now I'll note next to them.

first concert ever:  Rick Springfield (Jesse's girl tour)

Night Ranger (2x Dawn Patrol & 7 Wishes tours)

Queensryche (2x  opening for Kiss & Operation Mind Crime tour)

Scorpians (2x Blackout & Love at First Sting tours w/ Trixter opening)

Trixter (2x opening scorpians & in a club)

Ratt (3x  opening for Billy Squier, Invasion of Your Privacy tour w/ believe it or not BON JOVI opening!, and at an 80's festival)

Billy Squier (1x)

Warrant/Firehouse/Black n Blue (touring together Warrant headlining)

Ozzy (2x Bark at the Moon & Ultimate Sin tours...my mom saw Ozzy w/Sabbath)

I'm sure I'm probably forgetting a few one hit 80's wonder that I saw either as an opener or in a club.

You did some serious headbangin'!  Never was my cup of tea, but I did bold the ones that I have concert envy of.

Interesting about the price increase you mentioned.  I scoffed at first because me and all my minimum wage friends had to scrounge money to get concert tickets (you could ask Mom & Dad for financial help for very few things and those better be essentials), but did some quick research and while this is ancient (from the NY Times in 2001) it was on point:

Although concert prices have always grown somewhat faster than inflation, from 1996 to 2001 the average price soared 62 percent, while the Consumer Price Index increased just 13 percent and the price of sporting events, movies and theater rose 24 percent.

Somewhat in order:
Hi-Five: They played after a college football game, Temple v. Howard. Temple crushed Howard during the game.  Howard killed Temple during the half time show with the bands.  I’ll never forget this concert since the girls rushed the stages.  A couple of girls got trampled so they had to stop the show for like a hour or more to take care of that.

Janet Jackson: 2x. Once with my mom when I was in high school and then once with friends in college during the summer.  I’ll never forget trying to get back home after that concert.  We had to walk to the bus station in DC at like midnight and then wait around for the bus.  I think we got home around 2 and had to be up at 6 for work.

Maxwell

The Roots: They played at JHU in the gym before they blew up.  The place wasn’t packed.  Awesome show!  I’m sure people are now kicking themselves for not going.

Alicia Keys

John Legend:  He opened for AK but we got stuck in traffic so we only saw half of his show.  When we saw just him, it was at the House of Blues in Atlantic City.  I had no idea it was standing room only so my feet were killing me in my heels.  I’ll never forget this night either since I was about to kick some dude’s ass for messing with my friend.

Jill Scott, Queen Latifah, Erykah Badu: I think I’m missing someone.  They toured some years ago together in a tour called the Sugar Water Festival.  LOVED IT!

Sean Paul:  It was so friggin’ late but the show was totally worth it.  Some drunk dude almost fell on me.

Goapele and Erykah Badu:  LOVED IT!

Damian Marley and Nas:  Hawaii.  The smell in the air was quite nice! Lol.

SOJA

I brought tickets to see Bruno Mars last year.  I then booked tickets to go home for a visit.  I completely forgot I had brought tickets to the concert (I blame pregnancy brain!) so I had to give the tickets away.  I gave them away to a colleague who was deploying so I don’t feel so bad.  My colleague then said the show was so damn good he walked away with a man crush on Mars.

Steff, that's a great list, and I love that you and your mom went to shows like Robert Plant  and Paul McCartney together  - such a blending of the perspectives, her having seen Zep and the Beatles. Your mom's list is nothing to sneeze at, either - some amazing bands there.

nicepebbles, it must have been great catching The Roots before they hit it big. Love them!  The Sugar Water Festival sounds excellent, too.

Going to see Darlene Love tomorrow, can't wait.

Wow!  Some of you have been to amazing shows!

My list isn't impressive, but I very much enjoyed each one.  I have varied tastes in music:

Janet Jackson (Velvet Rope tour...loved it; a barely known Usher opened)

Nsync (pretty much every tour...I don't care what anyone says, those lads could sing. Crazy envious of the poster above who got pulled up by JC...I was a JC girl)

Christina Aguilara/Justin Timberlake (remember when they toured together that 1 time?)

Britany Spears (got free tickets, so was worth the price of admission)

Justin Timberlake (20/20 Tour...not a great set of albums, but a super good show)

Maroon 5

NKOTB (in '89, when I was 7 and each time they've come thru town since they got back together in the last few years...it's sooo much fun...Lady Gaga opened up for them right as "Just Dance" was starting to get big)

Journey (with Arnel)

Foreigner (a few years ago...it was silly, but fun)

Pat Benetar (I love her)

Heart (damn, they were good)
Poison/Def Leppard (their ~2012 tour...it was on my bucket list to see Joe sing and hear Phil play, so I was excited)

The Roots (a few years ago...they were awesome)

Bruno Mars (2013 Moonshine Jungle Tour...he and the band were ah-mazing...pretty much walked away awed by his talent and slightly in love)

Boyz II Men (early 90s and more recently)

Jason Mraz (We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things tour...awesome)

Ludacris, OutKast (came to my college and were awesome...this was right as Stankonia was coming out)

Sting (I almost died...LOVE)

TLC (Ah, Left Eye...I miss you)

Sean Paul (This is when Square One was the thing for Caribbean people before he crossed over)

Dave Matthews (excellent show!)

Jill Scott (she blew me away)

New Edition (in the early 00's)

Jay Z (2002-ish)

The Beach Boys

Eddie Rabbitt (ah, the 80s)

Eric Clapton

Rolling Stones

Paul Simon

Rick Springfield

Paul McCartney

George Strait (2x)

Alabama (their recent reunion tour... figured they'd put on a good show, they did, it ended up being quite a family event -- my Mom was freaking ADORABLE during this concert)

Stevie Nicks

Lenny Kravitz

Maroon 5

Styx/Journey/Loverboy

Heart

Joan Jett

Berlin (I danced on stage with Terri Fucking Nunn!)

Lifehouse

Kelly Clarkson

The Fray

Blondie

Smokey Robinson

Huey Lewis & the News

Rod Stewart/Bryan Adams

Pat Benetar

U2 (a few times, one tour they had Oasis opening for them so I saw them, too)

Those I WANT to see:

Chrissy Hynde

Annie Lennox

Muse

Our Mid-State Fair gets a bunch of pretty cool acts both on the big stage and the free ones (which is how I've seen a lot of these acts). Pat Benetar was touring with Loverboy and Journey, both of which I'd seen at the fair before... I went to that one SOLELY for her and it was awesome.

I will be able to add my 11th time to see Motley Crue again this summer.  2nd leg of the final tour & they are coming back thru here again.  Different location, so this time I can see the full Cruecifly roller coaster drum solo and again right after my birthday.  My brothers are going with me again & my BFF from Texas is going to fly in & see them with us.

Some amazing lists here, mine is much less so!  I live in not so big Canadian city, so big acts don't come here as often, and I've seen a lot more Canadian bands that no one has heard of.

I wasn't allowed to go to concerts growing up.  My mom was too afraid of drugs being there, which is weird because I've literally never done any drugs so even if they were there I never would've done any... Any way, I digress.  I still don't go to many concerts but I will definitely go if I win or get in for free.  The double asterisked bands below are the ones I am an actual fan of.  Lol

Gloria Estefan (free tickets)

**Tears for Fears (won tickets)

**Bowling for Soup (won tickets)

Adam Lambert (won tickets)

Ed Kowalczyk (free tickets)

N'Sync

Backstreet Boys

Britney Spears

**Barenaked Ladies

**Dave Mathews Band

**City and Colour

In my defense- the N'Sync, Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears were in the 90's during their hay-day and my oldest daughter was a HUGE fan.

I am also super excited because I JUST bought Modest Mouse tickets for the concert on July 23rd!!

I saw Alestorm on Tuesday night. They were as always awesome, I want to see them again! But let me tell you about the opening act, they were really something.Guitarist, bassist, and drummer get on stage. Then comes a figure wrapped in a sheet and wearing a shark mask. He whips these off to reveal a rather pudgy sort of fellow with long hair and thick beard. He's wearing a sailor dress. Yes, really. Oh, my eyes! He then proceeds to dance around like he's off his face. So lLet's be honest. If I was going on stage wearing that outfit, I'd be on something too.

For that matter, the guitarist and bassist were big on posing too. I suspect their rehearsal room contains a large mirror. The band is called Troldhaugen, for the curious. Entertaining, but kind of WTF.

My list won't be all that impressive..never had a money to go to shows...and some of mine are a bit obscure..and belong in the Christian Rock realm:

Sha Na Na(three times?)

Joey Dee and the Starlighters(several times..My mom LOVED them)

Petra/Margaret Becker/Geoff Moore

David and the Giants

John Denver (3 times...still the best shows ever..God, I miss him)

The Kingston Trio..over ten times...Great voices..and great guys to hang out with

Creedence Clearwater Revisted(free show..sound alike vocalist but overall not bad)

Gordon Lightfoot

Newsboys

Jars of Clay(Twice)

Caedmon's Call (three times)

NeedToBreathe(before they really hit big)

DCTalk

Micheal W. Smith

Like I said..not that impressive but I still am glad I saw them..and I want to see Johnny Rivers and John Fogerty one day..My best friend saw Paul McCartney and called me from the show(he was out of town..I enjoyed it through his phone..and damn, that was fun!)
