Teacher of adults here. Re Miranda and Nya:

1) You should not be that mutually intimate with current students, period.

2) This ep's scenes dramatized why: Miranda and Nya trade jokes about getting a punitive A-. Well, what if Miranda does some actual A- work? Nya will now have to wonder whether she can assign the actual grade Miranda earned or whether Miranda will read the A- as some external indicator of something else, and Miranda will wonder if it was her work or her last dinner conversation with Nya that earned the A-...anyway, you see the problem. (And joking about it like they did actually makes the problem WORSE, not better.)

When the student is no longer your student, consenting adults, blah-blah-blah, fine. Whatever. (I don't do it, but don't see a problem with it.) But a current student? No way. Being that non-sexually intimate with a current student is wrong, for all the same reasons being sexually intimate with a current student is wrong.

See, there’s your drama.  Should they or shouldn’t they.  Professor and student.  Lotta potential there for angst.  Not saying they should, but this is a show, so, it would at least be interesting.  A story.  An arc.   Not the instant rom-com/soft porno we got.  Absolutely no drama there, no story arc to speak of.  Virtually no struggle for Miranda.  Virtually no questioning.   That was what was so weird about the Che thing.  She wanted Che.  She got Che.  One discussion with her husband, one weird scene in a staircase, but essentially no obstacle to make it interesting.  That’s not good storytelling.

A complete dumpster fire of a season and finale.

So much to rant about but for now: Will someone PLEASE tell the writers of this mess that a podcast is a not a radio talk show that takes live calls on the air? Oh my god.

Wow Frasier but starring a woman..... what a revolutionary idea from 1993!  THEY INVENTED THE RADIO CALL IN SHOW!

I get that some people like Cynthia Nixon's teeth, which excuse me while I barf.  I never had braces growing up (and am finally wearing Invisalign decades later).  Nobody should be more sympathetic than me when it comes to natural teeth.  But Cynthia's look disgusting, I'm sorry.  They constantly look stained with lipstick whereas those are just stains.  She doesn't want to get them straightened, fine, but not whiten them just a touch?  And her eyebrows?  I know that I hate Cynthia now but I hate every facet of her now.  Her teeth, her wig (?), her eyebrows.  She looked like Pennywise to me.  New iteration.

I still have a hard time believing hipster Che would have the least bit of interest in frumpy Miranda. Why? Every single bit of her wardrobe screamed "old lady" to me and the wigs were awful. There are really fantastic natural wigs out there these days but Miranda's helmet head looked so cheap.

100% yes.  This is all so that Cynthia Nixon can live out a fantasy/vanity project, like when Matthew Perry told everyone he was making "Fools Rush In" just so that he could be married to Salma Hayek.

Also, I'm not one who believes in heaven, but I've never, ever brought this up in conversations where people were grieving.  Who would do this 😶😶😶😶😶. That's so fucked up

Yep.  How many times have we heard or at least suspected male actors had certain female actors hired because they wanted to hook up with them onscreen and maybe offscreen as well?  My question is why did they completely rewrite a storyline to give her what she wanted?  Cynthia Nixon really has become insufferable. And totally agree about her teeth.   It's very distracting.

Are there any "deeper" viewer of the original show out there?  I don't recall Big being that close to his brother.  Of course, with half hour shows, each character had entire lives outside of what we were shown.  The same thing applies to what several people have mentioned about Brady's reaction to his parent's split & Miranda's relationship with Che.  They had to decide what things to show and Brady has never been a focus of the show like the main four, so his perspective/reaction was never going to be a focus.

Never mentioned his brother in original SATC.  Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.  And apparently he has TWO brothers.

Haha, people like Miranda being unkind to Carrie for finding comfort in believing Big is in Heaven.

You mean Jackie, who Smoke married. Franklin is the hot "podcast" host who kisses Carrie at the end. Hey, some women love a guy who can make them laugh. But, didn't we see him having words with the podcast social media coordinator (there's a job title that didn't exist until the 21st century) about why they broke up? If he's been dating Smoke long enough to get married, why were they still annoyed with each other? (Need to rewatch that scene.)

Miranda really does owe Charlotte a trip to Paris, and I guess since she's running off to live in L.A., that won't happen. What I don't get is why, when Miranda dropped out, Carrie flips around and it's "oh, Miranda isn't going so sorry Charlotte, invitation rescinded"? It's always seemed like the "lightest" connection was Carrie-Charlotte, but if she wanted her  two close friends to come along why isn't one still ok? Carrie being Carrie again. I guess proper little Charlotte is used to it!

Yikes this whole series has felt like a vanity project for both Cynthia Nixon and Sara Ramirez, but this episode especially for the latter. The "stand up" was bad enough, but the singing?

I'm sorry I know this isn't woke but I don't think I will ever get used to using "they" as a pronoun for an individual. I'm far from transphobic but I'm a stickler for grammar and "they" and "them" are plural. I'm not a fan of changing the meaning of words. If "he" or "she" are not appropriate then we need to come up with a brand new pronoun, not re-define an existing one.

Now get offa my lawn.

Was that supposed to be all of Big's ashes in her weird purse? I looked it up and you'd usually get about 5 pounds of ashes ... Sorry if that's a bit morbid.

I thought the same thing, as I was involved in an ash spreading last fall and it was way more ashes then I thought!!

They make a point of showing Big's brother and his concern about where Big is going to be interred, etc. and yet no one else was in Paris with Carrie?  Did she even bother to let them know what she was going to do or take their feelings into consideration?  I know if my brother died and my sister-in-law pulled a stunt like that and scattered his ashes in another country without letting us know, I would be furious!

Maybe Carrie gave the family some of the ashes for the family crypt and only took a purse full for herself. Although some people are hot happy about ashes being separated or not being interred on sacred ground (also what I learned last fall)

Now that the series is done I will comment. I never watched SATC when it first came out. I am the exact same age as SJP but when SATC came out I didn't have HBO and it didn't interest me at all. (I had a new baby). I only just started binging the series in the fall , not even knowing a new reboot was coming. I didn't have the same emotional attachment as others to the original so I thought AJLT was OK ish.

Fashion porn? More like fashion snuff.
Miranda’s hair and makeup look like they were done by a mortician’s intern. Waxy skin, badly drawn eyebrows and her too pale for her foundation appears to be all over her lips and teeth.
Norman Bates wants his wig back btw.

No way do I see a narcissist hipster boor like Che taking up with her. Che would date a head to toe tattooed, rainbow haired, everything pierced with horn implants on head type.

LOL Good point. I am on a podcast with people in a different country than mine and I didn't even think about this.  None of us are even in the same city.  And no one would call in.  The host posts it a day later.

The only thing that I've seen close to this is I was watching a live podcast and I was tweeting things at the hosts and they would talk about it as I tweeted them.  That was cool.  Celebrities and "social media influencers" do that on Twitch all the time.  DJs will play sets and will see all of the comments and likes and requests come in.  But taking calls?  Hmmmmm....... Not sure if podcasts do this.  Maybe the really big ones that are funded by millions from the likes of Spotify?

I think my problem with KD's current acting of Charlotte (aside from the frozen Joker smile) is that she delivers pretty much every line as if she's surprised (gasp!). She never just talks normally, which renders the moments when she would be genuinely surprised as indistinct. She's in permanently-startled mode.

I really thought this episode was going to be about Miranda re-evaluating things and taking the internship, not being codependant, and living with however that effects her relationship with Che (like 'Normal People' levels of emotional growth) and was puzzled.  I also wanted her to embrace her son and say 'I love you' at the end.  Her newly died hair wasn't very vibrant...  I've generally enjoyed the series, but this did feel off.  I wish they could have shot some other stuff for the dream sequence too, but oh well.  It ended well for Carrie, and I'm glad Charlotte didn't force religion onto her child.

I think this is why Samantha has remained well-loved among the fans, despite KC's distance from the character. I think it's only Samantha who has relatively remained judgment free among the four of them. Carrie and Charlotte have had their own judgmental moments. But Samantha? Never judged when Charlotte divorced Trey, nor when Miranda considered abortion, nor when Carrie cheated on Aidan with Big, nor when Carrie got back together with Big, had her heart broken, and gotten back together again, etc.

For all of Samantha's unapologetic straightforwardness and show of her sexuality, she's really been the perfect friend for all of them. That's why her absence was hard to excuse with some made-up feud not in character and her appearance reduced to some flimsy text messages.

Bad writing too to say that Samantha would be offended at Carrie dropping her as her publicist, or to say that Samantha was using Carrie for her money.  LOL since when.  Samantha is not a user.  Samantha strikes me as someone who had a tough upbringing and depended on herself and decided she would owe nothing to anyone for any reason.

I haven't read through all the replies yet, but I thought it would be fun to share some of my husband's thoughts (he has seen a handful of SATC episodes that I forced him to and the pilot for AJLT)(we're currently separated but because I cannot bear to cut him out of my life like my family wants, he has a key to my new place and sometimes he just shows up. So, last night I said "It's fine that you showed up, but I'm about to watch this so if you wanna hang you're watching it too")

On The recap: How many episodes has this been spread over? WTF?

On claiming a death as "worst breakup ever": Shut up, Carrie.

On Teacher asking for consent before the kiss: That's nice of him. I don't think it's ALWAYS necessary depending on context, but it's nice.

On seeing Seema: Hold on, is this chick supposed to be a replacement Samantha?

On Miranda making fun of Carrie and Charlotte believing in heaven: I TOLD you Miranda was the biggest bitch!

On Anthony "parenting" Rock: I have no idea who these people are, but that was awesome.

During Carrie's lunch with Big's brother: Her shoes? She keeps her dead husband in a box by her shoes? (This triggered a pause and a sidebar of what we would do with one another's ashes if one of us died first, assuming we get back together). *then* It seems a little rude to refer to letting someone rest in the family crypt as "squeezing them in".

About the they-Mitzvah clothes: WTF did they dress Charlotte and Miranda in? They're 55, not 95.

About the they-Mitzvah in general: Let's have a party for just us, but with that candy bar.

On Rock refusing to take part in their they-Mitzvah: Yeah, no. Sometimes you just do things for your parents to make them happy. Especially if they threw you an expensive party with an amazing candy bar.

On Miranda and Carrie's fight and Miranda's decision to drop everything to follow Che: I TOLD YOU MIRANDA WAS THE BIGGEST BITCH!

On Carrie's outfit on the bridge, after I commented that pink and orange should not be mixed: Also people with orange-ish skin shouldn't wear orange. Actually mostly only cats should wear orange.

And finally, on the last text with Samantha: Isn't it kind of rude of them to continue the character of Samantha when the actress isn't participating?

One of the reasons I can't let go is because he's so damn fun to snark with lol.

Seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I thought Carrie doing the full fashion thing on the bridge was very in character. The whole Paris scenario was one of the only scenes that rang true to the original series.  That and Charlotte telling Carrie she still owed her a trip to Paris -- no way would original Charlotte have let that slide, and glad this version didn't either.

I loved that too and it was the only part of the "documentary" I really cared about seeing.

As long as I'm expressing my musical opinions (which I'm sure no one cares about..lol)... No offense to anyone who likes him or the song, but I was incredulous  in ep 1 that Big's (who would've lived through the music of the 60's +70"s and beyond) favorite song was Todd Rundgren's  Hello It's Me???

The dancing with Carrie  to Moon River was part of him  sharing  a memory   of his parents  "who had the moves" hitting the town to go dancing, That  it was "not corny, classic". I just have to believe he was into   better  music. He'd have been the age of a baby boomer, right? None that I know listen to Moon River or Hello It's Me.

I’m with you. That song is “meh” to me. I think the writers just picked it because the title and the line “You know that I’d be with you if I could” fit the idea of Carrie thinking Big is contacting her.

Why the heck didn’t Carrie pick Berger’s Post-It note as the worst breakup story? Still would’ve won.

I have been a long time fan of SATC, which used to be my bible back in the 90s and early 2000s. I even loved the first movie. But I was sorely disappointed by this reboot mainly because of the Miranda and Steve storyline, and the complete and utter character assassination of the OG Miranda. Like many others, I would like Miranda to stay in LA with Che, sit in the audience and laugh, and never be seen again.

On a more positive note, glad Carrie got her groove back at the end. The "podcast" producer is objectively hot and I am here for him getting it on with Carrie.

BTW wasn't John Corbett supposed to make an appearance? Were his scenes cut or something?

I don't think we were ever supposed to think Hello It's Me was Big's FAVORITE song. It's that it was the last one they danced to in their kitchen the night before he died, so it held a special significance in Carrie's mind.

But I have no problem believing Big would like the song, or Todd Rundgren, who was a great artist, at least enough to have an album or 2. What we know of Big's musical taste was Blood Sweat and Tears before breakfast and a lot of Sinatra, and When A Man Loves A Woman. (He had kind of cheesy taste, really, imo.) Moon River reminded him of his parents.

He would have been a teenager when Hello Its Me came out, right? That's the demographic of who woulda liked that song, mostly. What music would make more sense? Just curious. Maybe some jazz. I think maybe he'd be a yacht rock guy.

Yet at Che's gathering of   the grandparents  Miranda hears that Che is going to L.A. to do a pilot and she says pilot? I don't know what that is?🙄

I read somewhere that this show was successful.  I’m thinking it’s like a bad train wreck.  It’s awful, but you just can’t look away!  I have a sick feeling that there definitely is going to be a second season of this mess … otherwise, why would the last line of the podcast (which is really a call-in radio show) be “and this is ‘Sex and the City’”??  And, of course we will all watch it … just to see if it gets better!  OY!

Also, Miranda you had Brady BAPTIZED and named Carrie as his godmother.  But Carrie believing in an afterlife is too much for you?  You showed up at a b’nai mitzvah, a ceremony drawing upon the Goldenblatt’s religious heritage.  And, again, you thought your apartment had a ghost in a SATC episode!

To be fair to Miranda, the baptism was all Steve’s idea. Miranda pushed back as much as she can but Steve practically begged her to do this one thing for their child as part of his family’s tradition.

I just recently watched Unoriginal Sin, so that’s why this is fresh to me.
