I've been wondering about the changes in Kody's appearance and behaviour.

He's not calm. He's more frenetic than ever. He has a hard flat 10 yard stare, and anger is sculpting his face.

He's more lean than before so I wonder if he's taking supplements to boost metabolism.

From a vague memory (of Reddit?),  a tweet from the Grand Poobah Kody about the red pill,  I looked up plexus red pill. Yep there is one. Or maybe testosterone. My son in law took it and he raged. Sweaty, tantrum throwing hell.

From Kody’s Instagram bio:

Kody Brown
Father of eighteen, husband to four. I love 'em all. Passionate about INDIVIDUAL rights. Apologetic for taking that "red pill"... dang it!!
Awake!

I never understood what he meant by the red pill...I thought it was a Matrix reference... but I don’t understand a lot of what Kody says.  I kinda forget he’s on social media unless the show is on at the time, and  I spend what little time I’m on social media looking up pictures of dogs 🐶.

Yeah in the Matrix, the red pill is hard truth, blue pill was blissful ignorance.

lol Kody's pills are: Red pill, Plexus. Blue pill, viagra! I wondered about testosterone, too! Probably one of those infomercial ones, because doctors are scary

Interesting thought Art of Noiz!

His whole persona has changed, and not in a good way. I guess editing wanted us to believe his extreme darkness is a result of the failure of his one house plan combined with the wives speaking up and lack of compliance. I attributed his nasty performance this season to financial stress, lack of supply to feed his ego, wife pushback and the disintegration of his plyg plan/fantasy.  You are right - it's a combination of his behavior AND physical appearance. All of the dopes have changed both in attitude and physically, but his changes are off the chart.

One would think he would be more zen, he got the girl and the mansion, successfully iced out the mouthy others and Janelle has been outed as a team kody player and is just "there", quietly waiting her next assignment.

I like your idea of the phoney prophet enhancing his awesomeness via supplements. This is a great explanation for the contrast of early (little pudgy, straight hair, softer demeanor) vs current (lean, permed, menacing) kody brown. Heck, the last time I remember him smiling was during the rant about how he wanted to go to Utah and get a plyg ticket so he could sue the state. Being amped up on something would also be an explanation for the weird, goofy dancing in the gym parking lot for the cameras.

Kind of ironic isn't it. kody brown morphed into Charles Manson (minus the physical violence) and Robyn went from pixie wife #4 to the Flagstaff version of one of the Mt Rushmore presidents.

The "red pill" and Awake! are both from QAnon.  Red pilling is seeing "reality" and they also use it as a term for converting people and Awake means you know the truth that the rest of the world doesn't/won't see.

Also his "where we go one we go all" is also QAnon.

I’m not surprised. He’s always had a persecution complex, and this fits his narrative.

Think I could apply for a grant to study the effects of folk selling their soul and the souls of their family members to Reality TV?
I could use the Browns as a case study-document the ongoing ridiculousness of each adult as well as the constant shit shows they force onto their offspring, who have no say in being participado, from the early days to the present.

I could sell a documentary...pitch for interviews with long term reality show participants from Honey Boo Boo to Twitney Thore...

What am I saying I don’t have the time for that shit.

I think that was just a thing for the show.  I don't think any of the wives or Kody all want to live in one house.  After 10 years it would probably be weird for all of them.

I think Kody is finally realizing that the rest of his life is looking increasingly bleak. Too many wives and too many children and an ever decreasing amount of money.
He believes he is special and important and deserves to be rich with no effort.

If he had been less impulsive about all the houses and moves and idiotic land purchases and carefully considered all the financial implications of what he was doing they would all be happier and better off. But because he has no one else to blame he is coming off as unbalanced. I think he’ll get worse.

I think Kody wants a monogamous marriage with his legal wife Robyn but he can’t figure out a way to get rid of Meri, Christine and Janelle.

I think he’s trying to make the ladies choose to leave him but it isn’t working and he’s angry as hell and he’s feeling more and more like a trapped rat.

Kody loved his life when he was surrounded by adoring wives and small children that loved their daddy but that isn’t the case anymore and it’s no longer fun for kody... he doesn’t want to deal with middle aged women and adult children who aren’t interested in his lifestyle and they aren’t buying his bullshit anymore.

I think he’d love for them all to disappear so he could just live with Robyn and his small children who adore him.

In one of the more recent house-moving episodes, Kody said that he loses weight under stress and he had recently lost 10 or 20 pounds.  But, throughout the season, and in his introduction pictures, the producers seem to focus on Kody's gut.

He has become obviously angrier and is usually griping about someone or something almost every scene.

Sol doesn't seem very enamored of dear old dad anymore. And neither does Robyn half the time.  Kootie is probably hoping that Christine leaves town with Truely so that Areolabella doesn't pick up any of Truely's attitudes toward her sperm donor.

I agree. Now, I'm thinking of his gun sales, and the AUB militia that was shown on Escaping Polygamy. He's a loony toon, but I would bet he made a little $, selling to their church's militia.

I bet he's still in the gun game. He's got the connections and knows the game, my guess is he's active, just on the downlow. That's not something you just stop, like eating carbs. He's made a couple gun comments throughout the tenure of the Brown scripted documentary. Even included the Vegas concert shooting as a reason to leave Vegas, "Vegas is to dangerous". He's most likely got an online presence in gun forums and attends gun shows. We know he's up to something other than LIV water. I recall a Robyn comment that she stayed up with him at night while he was working/making calls and something about time zones.

"I can 100% verify that he is in marketing. I just saw him today at the Phoenix AZ Gun show in a booth selling gun accessories. He was going over how some gun attachment worked to the man in front of me. Sorry but I was so busy staring at Kody to be SURE it was him so I don't make an ass of myself when I say hello, that I blurred out what it was he was demonstrating but it was certainly a scope or something. He looks very well and is quite a hustler.
What gave him away was his voice. That made me sure it was him. The guy didnt buy but soon as he stepped out of the way I stuck out my hand and lowkey said "Hey, love your show" and went to leave. You could tell he surprised I'd bring up his show as he said thank you very quietly and sort of shrunk away. Maybe he wanted to be low key, maybe he was afraid i'd fangirl (not a chance) but working the trade show circuit is indeed marketing. I'm sure he does the internet sales for this as well."

I'm obviously just speculating here, but maybe he could see that Janelle had more of a platonic/business/procreation desire than a romantic one, and wouldn't demand much of his affections???  So he didn't really have to fake attraction to her, where Christine wanted at least some love and affection?  Just guessing, of course.

Janelle strikes me as a woman who prefers to not have a man around full-time so this set up works for her, and I bet he likes that.

From the wedding photos I think Janelle was the prettiest.  I didn’t read their book, but was Kody “disgusted” by Christine’s weight or just by the way she ate nachos? Meaning things she did were a “turnoff” to him as opposed to her body. I’m not sure what was written in the book and I’m DISGUSTED he would of even mentioned it in there in the first place. To me Janelle had a prettier face when they were all young, so even though Meri was thinner, she wasn’t more attractive than Janelle to me....no idea what the Kodster thought.

Also, there’s part of me that thinks Kody gives Janelle “points“ because he loves the fact that she used to be his BIL’s wife.  Plus, she was working full-time and we know Kody loves that.  Lastly, Janelle barely ask Kody for anything now, I doubt she did back then either, so she’s taking financial pressure off of him and building up his ego.  It’s a win-win for him.

I always wondered that, too. Janelle had an attractive face, but I thought Christine was "cute" too. Sure, Janelle had a full-time job, but Christine's full-time child care doesn't come cheap out in the real world, either. They both were contributing to the family.

Kody seems to have some grudge against Christine (in addition to the nacho incident)--was he "forced" to marry her, did he get pressure from elder male AUB members to do so because of her pedigree?

There was an episode shortly after Robyn and Kody married that Christine complained about Kody seeming to not want to be with her at all anymore, and in his talking-head, Kody referred to her as acting like a "princess."

Just from reading their book, it was almost like Christine was actively pursuing Kody.  Or at least trying to be places that him and Meri were.  Even though they are not supposed to I believe some men pick their own wives.  It's supposed to be that a woman decides who they are going to marry in that religion, at least that is what they tell the public.  But reading other stories about women who were told by the elders or their parents who they were going to marry.  It often wasn't a choice.

I’m going to guess it’s because he’s got some fetish that has absolutely NOTHING to do with what mainstream society and media considers to be attractive and Janelle fits that fetish to a T, but Christine doesn’t.  I myself am not attracted to what mainstream society and the media holds out as “attractive”, but I don’t care so it’s no secret fetish for me.

I’ve heard tell of folk who keep up a dominant outward business/social persona that can’t be satisfied behind closed doors unless they take on a submissive role which they fiercely guard as private, lest they be seen outside the bedroom as weak or whatever.

Also, I’ve heard tell of folk who profess to believe in a religion that requires marriage to more than one spouse...even if it is illegal. Strange, innit? LOL

Christine had Kody in her sights before he married Janelle. She was waiting For Kody to marry the girl they courted while they waited for her to turn 18. When it fell through, Christine backed off because being 3rd wife was so important to her.

Once upon a time I dated men, and once I was on a date where I ordered nachos. The guy said, "I love how you eat like a guy." (I was running 60+ MPW and in the gym an additional 5-10 hours per week and nachos were negligible, plus they were on the menu and totally delicious.) I said to him, "like a guy, you mean, like eating with my di*k?" I totally knee-jerked it, like I had no idea why nachos were a guy-only thing, but some guys think like that. We didn't last, but we became climbing buddies until he decided a female climbing buddy he couldn't have sex with wasn't worth climbing with.

My guess is, Kody wants his women womanly or, that is to say, "womanly" in the boomer sense, where women pretend they don't eat in front of a man and hide the M&Ms in the closet for when the guy isn't around, and Christine had the audacity to eat actual "food" in front of him. I've heard the "you eat like a guy" line while eating wings, nachos, fries or whatever, and it's supposed to be a "compliment" but comes off as "I'm emasculated by you having the audacity to subsist on more than lettuce in my presence."

You're right; I should've said "in the sexist sense." I was thinking of those stupid boomer-era "wife bad" cartoons and forgetting that the stereotype doesn't fit a lot of people. Your second point is totally correct as well.

I watched a S2 episode today while I cleaned my kitchen. Kody and Janelle get one-on-one time camping. Of course, Janelle has done the packing. Kody barrels in, tells her he hasn't even thought about it.. she tells him "Just be fast, be focused". He asks her what he will wear. She reminds him of  their schedule, and tells him to focus.. He yanks shirts down and stuffs them in a duffel. Brouhaha over bedding. Kody opens what she has folded, then fits about no zippers.  He flounce out, she refolds the bedding. Janelle carried the huge pile out.

I got pissed off all over again at a do-nothing ex of mine.

Kody sux.

I'm sure this, and the financial aspect, mattered to Kody. And Meri must have liked the idea that Janelle wasn't a threat to her and Kody's relationship from a romantic point of view.

Agreed. And in that same book, Kody actually mentioned the pressure he felt for a quick marriage. Her father went to speak to Kody and she wanted to marry asap. Kody said a few times that he wasn't ready or sure it was the right thing. But he also said that he really liked her (apart from the Nachos bit) and loved her bubbly personality. It's my guess that there really must have been some form of love between them in the beginning but it's my guess it wore off pretty quickly once the reality of life set in.

I always figured the "plyg royalty" thing played into why Kody married Christine, but also why he seems to dislike her so much. Even if there was some love there, and there may have been (because of all of the wives, she's the one I'd choose to have a drink with, she's pretty and seems chill), the pressure to marry into "plyg royalty" and do so quickly could easily build resentment for the person feeling pressured. If they had been allowed to build a relationship naturally they may have had a chance. Now, instead, we're rooting for her eventual escape from this.

just rewatched one of the last episodes in full. Kody seems to be wearing braces in some of the scenes? Particularly the scenes where he sits on the sofa in the dark blue/green tell all room. Like the invisalign invisible/transparant type that cover the teeth? Why the heck would he do that? If he really wants to improve his looks, I'd start with deciding what to do with the hair (or lack of it)

He also looks really old in some of the scenes, particularly when he is talking to Christine in the bedroom about her wish to move back to Utah.

If so, Kody has money for cosmetic alignment of his teeth, but not for Ysabel's medically-necessary surgery to correct the curvature of her spine and reduce her daily pain from an 8 on a 1-to-10 scale.  It's not ironic.  It's selfish and abusive.

I think they meant it's more conservative socially than Las Vegas, which is very "anything goes" when it comes to behavior (in Flagstaff, the kids wouldn't encounter things like billboards advertising local strip clubs, for example) -- but liberal in the sense of accepting a non-traditional 'lifestyle.' Agree it's a misuse of both terms.

I wish we got to see Kody’s reaction to this! The HUGE amount of money that’s not flowing into his bank account.... Another great example of a Poor-Brown-Decision that turned out to be even worse!
