Because they weren’t initially charged with all of the same crimes and she took a plea deal and cooperated so only had to plead guilty to racketeering and he was found guilty of Sex trafficking (2 counts), Racketeering, Forced labor conspiracy, Attempted sex trafficking, Wire fraud conspiracy, and Racketeering conspiracy.

And in much worse news.

Fuck off, Pennsylvania Supreme Court!

I’m reading the decision now...it’s long, but well written.  Hmmm.....

So, aren’t there charges in another state pending?

Not long enough for my liking, but at least it's something. As long as Keith Raniere rots 'til the bitter end, then I'm happy.

Ugh.  I wish it were more.  But yeah, she got some time and is a convicted felon. Now as long as people remember that she was a black mailing, sex trafficker who mentally and physically tortured women regardless of what she was actually charged with and doesn't get the Hollywood Redemption Welcome Reception  when she is out, I'll be even more satisfied.

Man.  Wow.  This is soooooo fucked up.

Bill Cosby is a very rich man who could keep paying lawyers to look for loopholes.  Loopholes he likely received because he was a very rich man.

I am just flummoxed at how a civil trial protected Cosby from criminal charges.

And things like this are why women often don't pursue criminal charges or come forward. Sometimes sharing their stories on Twitter or in print is all they can handle.

At this rate, I expect the prosecutors to send a limo to escort Ghislaine Maxwell out of jail and meet her personally with flowers and an apology.

Hell, why stop there? Let's release Larry Nassar and have him not only practice medicine again, but be the new head of USAG! Have Chris Watts be on the next season of The Bachelor! Everyone deserves another chance, right?! And let's give poor widdle Brock Turner his spot in the Olympics that was so cruelly wrested from his promising young hands! GAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Sorry, but sometimes inappropriate humor is the only way I can cope with all this bullshit.

There is a tiny, tiny, molecule of comfort in knowing that Bill Cosby has been exposed for being the piece of shit that he is, and nothing can change that. His reputation is in ruins. He should absolutely be in jail.

My sole comfort is that he's old, and has never struck me as a health nut. He may get his freedom, but how much of it will he really enjoy?

Then again, I'm reminded of this tragically true statement by Lewis Black:

The good die young, and the pricks LIVE FOREVER!

Because the prosecutor at the time apparently made a deal that he wouldn’t charge him if he gave a deposition in the civil case but then the new DA later used that deposition in the criminal trial against him which they found to be a violation of his 5th Amendment rights.

Could they re-try Cosby if they don't use the deposition?

According to the articles I have read about the decision they ruled he could not be prosecuted again. This was also in the AP article and it’s infuriating “There was no evidence that promise was ever put in writing.”

Prayer circle that he drops dead this week. That’s the only way I can live with this.

Awful but it doesn’t really surprise me. I had a bad feeling it would go this way once I read the details. The prosecutor screwed up.

It not being in writing matters very little when the former prosecutor admits to it and publicly claims Cosby couldn’t ever be prosecuted.

Well for many reasons that would be off-topic I have many, many issues with Bruce Castor, his relationship to the truth, and his ability as a lawyer.

So do I but those same reasons make it very likely he told Cosby exactly what he claims.

Clearly MMV.

Someone asked upthread but I don’t believe there are any other cases even being contemplated in other jurisdictions as there were in Weinstein’s case.

I don't know that he did.  Sometimes things that look like screw ups are exactly the way some people intend them to be.

He might not have taken the case seriously.  He arguably did not want to prosecute the case. Making that agreement creates a situation where he never has to prosecute and Cosby can get a monetary slap on the wrist at most.

Fuck off, Phylicia! This is not a vindication for what he even ADMITTED TO DOING! She also limited her replies so someone on her team probably realizes this was about to get her dragged.

Very true about the original prosecutor. I was also talking about the later prosecutors setting up the ruling to be thrown out giving Cosby this victory. At least he spent a few years in jail but watching him and his supporters feel vindicated makes me sick to my stomach.

If that agreement was never put in writing, why do we believe it ever existed? You'd think that if it existed, it would have come to light a lot sooner. I 100% believe this is made up bullshit, a lie someone thought of in order to get him exonerated.

The rapist is out of jail ALREADY.    People have been exonerated from death row and waited longer for their paperwork to process.   Like literally, the Supreme Court handed down the decision and they opened the cell door.   Fuck you Pennsylvania.

Also how the fuck was this issue not raised at trial?   the deal would have been known.

Fines should bear some relationship to size of the person's wealth. These people can just buy their cases and suffer no loss, not even notice the financial hit to their bottom line, where the average person would be completely unable to do so.

You can lockdown by the tweet which is what she did in this case.

But that does not stop people from Quote tweeting it.  She is getting roasted all over Twitter right now.  When I looked about 20 minutes ago, her tweet had 14,000 quote tweets.  Her tweet is getting more views this way than if she would have allowed comments.

Crime pays, ladies and gentlemen!! That is, if you are rich and famous, as the PA Supreme Court taught us.

Phylicia is getting roasted on Twitter? GOOD!! It couldn't happen to a more deserving woman.

It's not like we all didn't know that she was on his side. It's insane that she would willingly allow herself to be dragged for him. I do not think she is the only celebrity to support him by far--but everyone else who does has the smarts to be private about it.

And to do this while being a dean at Howard? Unbelievable. I would not be surprised if she is let go.

For me with Cosby I can vaguely remember a time when I defended him - I think I can remember feeling that what he was being accused of could not possibly be true.  I don't think I was alone in this - I grew up with him as a benevolent father figure on TV and I also grew up listening to his records, which were hilariously funny.  Somewhere along the way though I had to come to terms with the reality of what he was like in his real life as opposed to the life he portrayed for his public.  So I really do get where his friends are coming from but c'mon how much more has to come out before you accept that the face he showed you was only one of his faces?

The thing that makes me think that the deal was really made is that Cosby testified in the civil case. He admitted to all kinds of illegal activity that really doesn’t make sense unless he felt he couldn’t be touched criminally. Plus, the former prosecutor’s background makes me think he is exactly the type who would make that kind of awful deal. For me, every argument over why the prosecutor would lie also supports why he would essentially give Cosby a get out jail free card.

As awful as this is, I am really glad that didn’t rule on the other issue over past bad acts testimony. If they had sided with Cosby on that it could have had disastrous consequences for lots of other cases.

I was just coming here to post that I fully expe t a nauseating statement from Cosby as though he is innocent. Phylicia beat me to it. Boy she had that tweet ready to go.

What pieces of shits they both are.

Cosby broke my heart like everyone else. Such a great figure in the community (before we all knew his true colors) and the HYPOCRISY!

I can understand how after years of friendship, where he was nothing but appropriate with you, you would be in disbelief. But after 60 women say the exact same thing, and he ADMITS IT, how could you open your mouth and defend him? Just because he was your friend and good to YOU, doesn't mean that it's okay for them to drug and assault people. Even if they were "insert prerogative for women here" or the second coming of the Virgin Mary, it was wrong- not an excuse!

Same.  Her stance was just as well known when they hired her, so they either don't care or agree with her.

Not to mention Howard is one of the handful of universities that never rescinded his honorary degree.
