j5cochran February 9, 2021 Share February 9, 2021 Despite the rough edges that I've come to expect in any pilot, I liked it. @tvfanatic13, is there an extra chair at your table? As for stunt casting, since Edward Woodward is gone, I'd suggest his son Peter Woodward. I first noticed him as Galen in the series Crusade, a follow-on to Babylon Five. (And met him at a sf convention, but that's another story!) Of late, he's mostly been playing villains, so he should be cast as a competing underground good guy! 4 5 Link to comment

tennisgurl February 11, 2021 Share February 11, 2021 (edited) I never saw the original, but I really like Queen Latifa and its fun to see her in an action hero type role, its got a great cast in general, so I am on board this for now. This was kind of rough in the way that pilots often are, where they have to deliver a bunch of exposition and establish a bunch of characters and set up what the show will be about, but the actors sold it pretty well, and they seem to have some good bones. Its a CBS procedural, you kind of know what your getting into plot and writing wise, and as far as CBS procedurals go, this seems like it could be a good time. The one weak spot is the daughter, who is very much the obnoxious bratty teen that every show with a badass hero of a certain age is required to have by law, who pretty much exists to complain and whine and get into trouble and cause headaches that keep the badass hero away from the cool stuff, and to get kidnapped and then rescued in the season finale. If she starts spending more time at her dads, I would be all for that. Edited February 11, 2021 by tennisgurl 11 Link to comment

Lorraine Toussaint was a pleasant surprise and I hope her role winds up being more than just a bit part. The most unbelievable part of the show was that the daughter said she was spending the night at her friend's house after the dance and they were shocked that she was at a party instead. The other thing I enjoyed was Latifah doing the Elliot from Leverage bit with the traffickers. DearEvette February 15, 2021 Share February 15, 2021 (edited) I watched this solely on the strength of Queen Latifah. I actually liked it. It is a very CBS-procedural-show show which aren't normally my jam, but I liked it. But QL and Chris Noth are very appealing. Lorraine Toussaint is also a draw although she was massively under-used in the pilot. I expect that to change because she is too talented to disappear into the background. I have no clue what an elite CIA agent is supposed to look like. The only CIA person I've ever seen is that ex-CIA operative who does youtube videos and she looks like someone's grandma. My sister is retired military. She looks like someone's pissed off auntie. All the time. So I have no issue with QL's casting for that. I did like the scene in the bad guy's house with him finding all the bodies in her wake and getting more and more freaked and she projected her voice through his sound system and taunted him. That is the type of sly action I like. I don't always need hand to hand combat and pyro-technics. I don't hate the daughter the way everyone else seems to. I hate the idea of the daughter. It is a result of the bias of the "elite" that has been built up since the 1980s which the pilot gave a nod to in the opening fight against the gang rapist and probably sex slave traffickers. In the world of elitisms spies, even senior citizen ones, beat middle aged special forces soldiers in fights. And retired athlete aged special forces soldiers beat regular young infantrymen who would be the age of actual MMA and boxing champions in their physical prime. While we can hide Liam Neeson's, Denzel Washington's or even Keanu Reeves actual skills behind production tricks Queen Latifah doesn't get that benefit of doubt where as model thin folks who would be more at a disadvantage than her of getting in a surprise blow with power behind it do get that audience acceptance since they are seen as "fit" 2 Link to comment

Again very unassuming and not at all memorable. He would probably have been considered elite but neither would you think were CIA. Which is the whole point of the CIA, some one that can operate with out being suspicious. I know of one other, college professor was his cover and he looked like one. Because of this I can believe all of the characters as CIA agents. 1 7 Link to comment

(Or at least, after one episode, maybe I should say they didn't.) I realize those production tricks are expensive, which is why I said earlier, if they can't afford them, they should have less fight sequences. And maybe more outsmarting of bad-guys than out-fighting them. Rather than 2-3 unrealistic-looking fights per episode maybe they should save up the budget and have one expensively produced, believable fight sequence every episode. Or every two episodes. I got no problem with QL being cast as the Equalizer. But for goodness sake, if you can't, for what ever reason, make the ass-kicking scenes look less hokey, then do away with them and find another way for her to shine as she saves her clients. Some stunt-baddie sticking his head out and waiting for her to whack it with a balsawood spanner just ain't gonna cut it. 2 Link to comment
