Pushed to the brink, Francesca loses all trust in Elizabeth while Captain Lee shares an unfortunate bond with the charter guests. Rachel continues to grow frustrated with the interior over miscommunication, and Elizabeth’s high expectations for her 30th birthday fall short. Ashling decides to lie to the primary’s son, and the crew grows fearful of COVID-19 as it ramps up back home.

Airdate: 02.01.2021

Oh, poor Elizabeth and her high expectations for her birthday.  🙄

Jeez those boobs!  They just look like something so unnatural for a 55 year old woman.

That woman was only 55?!?  OMG!  She looked 10 years older.  Can’t the Queen of Versailles afford some retinol or hyaluronic serum?  I hope she never is the same room with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin or Candace Bergen. Or Betty White.

Last show:  Creative editing (Capt. Lee's voice) to make us think Elizabeth would get fired tonight. Bravo BRAVO, you got me.

Elizabeth:  Can't believe she's 30 either. Very self centered. Me me me, my birthday isn't perfect. Waaaa waaaaa!! That said, see James.

James:  You clueless dick! You don't have to marry Elizabeth, but she's still a nice person and has feelings. Would it kill you to do *something* for  her on her birthday???? Bet you'll change  your tune when you are horny again. Seems like "a lot of work"? No...a lot of work is Elizabeth  trying to convince herself that you have any redeeming qualities whatsoever. As J.J. says: "Beauty fades, dumb is forever."

Rachel: The demons stir yet once again, eh? Thought I smelled sulphur and some brimstone. Guess they won't be making a "flick my bean!" mug  anytime soon.  Once  the novelty of your potty mouth wears off, the Bravo audience may just find you as useful as a screen door on a  submarine. (how's that one Captain Lee?)

Izzy:   Don't let the dudes talk about your ass like that and then just say thanks. It's disrespectful and meant to bring you down to their level.  Truth is they're probable jealous of you being noticed professionally. BTW, loved "a woman's look"...totally something my wife would say :)

Mr. Siegal:  This cruise may be your last. You look beat. Cut down on the cholesterol please, you've got relatively young kids. OTOH, when your  net worth is just short of a billion, maybe they don't care??

I do not really care for Jackie Siegel, Queen of Versailles, or her husband who made his initial fortune scamming people into time share properties.  Don’t know exactly how he made it back again after losing it.  I believe Jackie had already been a guest on one Below Deck episode in the past.

Basically the same way, those investments recovered and through massive layoffs and not rehiring, and leveraging his debt. He is also being sued by a shit ton of employees.

Rachel may be an excellent chef, but that mouth. Oy!

I can’t believe Elizabeth is 30. She acts more like she’s 17.

I don’t know if Rachel thinks the constant disgusting quips make her sound hip or cool but she’s just completely classless.  Between the filthy mouth and issues with alcohol, who would want to hire her?

Happy Birthday, Elizabeth, we all chipped in and got you a one-way ticket out of here!   She’s so brainless, I find it hard to believe she was able to survive 30 years.

Ugh the two Siegel boys, typical rich kids, entitled obnoxious assholes.

The Siegels must like the attention, no matter how they come across, between the movies and the BD appearances.

OK they must have known that the Siegels also lost a child to an OD?  So did they prod the Siegels or Lee to talk about those losses on camera?

If they did, it's the lowest of the lowest manipulations.

Pretty sure they encouraged Elizabeth to FaceTime her energy guru or whatever and have the camera crew follow her out to the deck.  Of course the guru guy didn't mind signing the waiver to have his face shown on her phone an on the TV show.

Rob seemed like such a low-key guy but his passive-aggressiveness at Izzy is really out there.  Seems really offended that she got the title and directs their work.  What was it that he said, she's the lead squeegee or chamois person?

It's true but it's also a TV show too so here "lead deckhand" is also a role.

Jackie was on a season of BDM with one of her stepsons and not David or any of her children (2 of of her 7 were on this episode) and they did a whole tribute to Victoria. They love to talk about her death. Her funeral was them taking a shit ton of selfies with her casket, Starbucks, and soda. No producer needed to encourage them. I did feel that Captain Lee might have been prodded to participate.

Ugh with these rich kids.

Money can’t buy you class. Elegance is learned, (my friend)! 👑

It's not a surprise, though. I saw 'The Queen of Versailles' and negligent is the polite word for their parenting. And of course the King of Versailles was a Covid minimiser. Did they ever finish building that monstrosity of a house?

Elizabeth continues to be useless. The more I see of her the more astounded I am by her incompetence. I mean, Kasey from BDM didn't know how to make a Bloody Mary and had only worked on a pontoon that never left the dock and even she had picked it up by now. I'd love to know what her 5 years of experience actually entails. She's irritating me so much that I'm glad she got that awful fairy bread cake which ordinarily I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. They were a staple of kids parties when I grew up, along with jelly set in hollowed out oranges and I'm here to say- they ain't right.

I remember that episode, the crew had to scale an elevated area so Jackie could have lunch with a view.

Not sure why Jackie and her husband would leave their son to sit at the bar and drink till 2am, keeping the staff awake and making them take responsibility for how drunk that kid was getting because they really could not cut him off, (drinking vodka and gatorade, ick), kudos to Ash to being able to shut him down and send him to bed.

What was with that big empty space on Jackie's dress where there were no sequins?

I feel bad for Capt. Lee being forced to dredge up feelings about his son.  Speaking of Lee, we saw him making his own breakfast, wasn't that the job of the 3rd stew?  Didn't Izzy get chastized for taking too long to pour cereal in a bowl for Lee but no mention of why it was ok that  Elizabeth did not make his breakfast in the same episode with Lee not listening to Francesca about what a terrible stew Elizabeth has been.

James is usless, I felt bad for Elizabeth but she really was setting her expectations high with James...the world ends at the tip of his nose.

I wonder if Eddie was going to say anything to James about the guest cabin scandal? It seems like Francesca forced his hand by running to the captain again. Why did the captain need to be involved?

Because even though Lee wants department heads to run things themselves, he won't let them fire anyone.  Francesca wanted Liz gone so she needed Lee's okay.  Eddie wasn't going to do anything to James.  Despite his personal flaws, he gets most of his work done and it would take some time to get a replacement.  Eddie, Izzy and Rob wouldn't be able to handle things on their own for 2+ charters and everyone knows it...especially James.

Maybe it's my horrible view of humanity, but Elizabeth only seems regularly stupid and not abnormally stupid to me.  Maybe I'm biased because she's at least friendly?

Also, I suppose there could be other things going on, but I sorta feel like Francesca should cry less and be able to handle the stress of this job better.  While Elizabeth is stupid and evasive and irresponsible and frustrating, she - in my opinion - is  not LITERALLY disruptive (the guest cabin crap is bad, but not horrible to guests, or dangerous, etc. - such as Rocky [Rockie?] or Lara) and has actually shown that if you keep it simple and keep track of her she can handle, er, maybe 4th stew tasks.  Just keep marching her through and keep better track of her rather than consistently losing your cool.  I don't even think that firing her is wrong at all, but I still think Francesca could have done better prior.  Ashling's suggestion of "we're losing our minds with all the work we're doing, let's go this next charter without her" is not a shining moment in workflow management either.

My partner and I discussed the fish order debacle.  We were split.  She felt that the confusion of "mahi mahi" vs. "mahi" was a writer (Francesca) problem and made the confusion her fault; I thought that while putting two names on one line was also an issue, it's not a freaking 12-top.  All Rachel had to do was go through it with her twice to confirm who was getting what.  I'm team Francesca on this one (as many are, I'm assuming).  Rachel is very close to being completely not worth her cooking IMO.

Also, having Rob turn into a fucking incel was not what we needed.

Elizabeth plays the wide eyed child character - like she can't understand at all why Francesca is constantly upset with her poor performance.  Like she's never heard any complaints ever about any of this!  She's just an entitled little twat who thinks her good looks and smile should let her slide through life without consequence.  I hope they do get rid of her.

She has a healer/energizer guru on speed dial, (I guess the fortune teller was busy), if she had been honest with Francesca about the guest cabin it would have gone better and her guru person would not have to clear the black, grey and clouds away because those bad vibes were coming from her and nobody else, a good sooth sayer would have known that, right? LOL.  I wonder if that was a $.99 per minute call like if you called Miss Cleo.

Capt. Lee confuses me with his non plus attitude with the cabin thing, those two broke the rules and Lee didn't ask Eddie why he has not taken any action but Francesca had gone the chain of command and gets nowhere.

Okay so do I have this right?  Francesca wrote down the orders for Rachel and because RACHEL didn’t read the paper correctly she didn’t make a sufficient number of mahi, she whines to Capt. Lee?

I'm someone who worked in restaurant kitchens for a while, and what Francesa did was in fact a big no - no every place I worked. Every plate has its own line on the ticket so you avoid miscounting the table. In fact, on the SAME ticket, Francesca did it properly: subsequent line with the quote marks indicating "whatever is directly above these, exactly." Doing it both ways can only cause confusion.

And while Rachel seems to be an amazing chef, I don't like her OR Francesa. In fact, almost this entire crew sucks except for Eddie, Izzy and Captain Lee's Amulet. Also, what the fuck Bravo, this is lifestyle porn, why is the dinner featuring so many crying guests and our favorite salty dog returning to his cabin an emotional wreck? Read a room, Bravo.

Didn't watch this episode and judging from what I am reading here I am not going to watch. The season has ruined Below Deck for me. The casting is awful. No one is likable or has any spark of personality. I am making exceptions for Eddie and Izzy. Captain Lee is grieving the death of his son and I believe this is the reason that he seems off to me.  Regarding the Francesca/Elizabeth drama they are both wrong here Francesca has wanted to fire Elizabeth almost as soon as she made her the 2nd. stew. And Elizabeth has given her plenty of ammunition with her lazy attitude and incompetence. But Captain Lee will not let her fire Elizabeth no matter how many times Francesca runs to him. This just makes Francesca harder and harder on Elizabeth and Elizabeth continues to half ass her job. It's a vicious cycle.

Likewise, and 100%.  It was a poorly written ticket, fully granted.

But.

It's a one-top restaurant, with what, six or seven people?  I know Rachel's just one person, but she's not exactly in the weeds.  I just can't lay this as much on Francesca as the chef in this case.  The instant you see that there are two names on one line, just stop and re-confirm everything.  (Hindsight being 20/20 from my couch, of course.)

I think we agree. If I put myself in the position of a 'restaurant manager' here, and these two dopes had to come to me to explain what happened and assign blame, clearly, my response is "YOU wrote a bad ticket. And YOU didn't double check what's there. Both of you are to blame, so don't let it happen again. Also, stop referring to your asshole or GI issues so much in my fucking kitchen." basically. I think doing it both way is what caused the most confusion.

I love Captain Lee but I think he needs to place more trust in his chief stew. He seems to have no problem firing a deckhand, like Shane, after a few charters. He listened to Eddie's thoughts on the matter, but also he could see for himself that Shane was a horrible deckhand. And just like that, Shane was gone.

The problem is that Captain Lee doesn't work directly with the interior so he has little first-hand knowledge of what goes on there. Around the same time Shane was fired, Francesca already knew that Elizabeth was a lost cause. But every time she told Captain Lee this, he decided to give Elizabeth yet another chance to improve. It seems Elizabeth may actually get fired in the next episode, although who knows if it's just editing that is making it seem that way. Either way, it's too little too late. Francesca has had to bear the brunt of the work, fix Elizabeth's mistakes and babysit her all season long. It's not right that the interior and exterior crew are not held to the same standards.

I think it also may be because he's worked with Eddie before and trusts him.  He seemed to trust Kate's complaints more than he does Francesca's.  Which could also be because I don't think we ever saw Kate cry in his presence when upset about a work situation.  MAYBE after she'd walked off for the night on her last deckhand douchebag season, but I don't think even then.

For some odd reason, I felt like Versace lowered their brand by making innertubes.  Versace and plastic innertubes does not compute.  Whatever, I realize it's all about the money, but still.....no, just no.
