S10.E17: Season 10 Reunion

Before reading any comments:

1 - Michael is a psycho, BUT pushing him to talk about Brandon I thought was wrong. I hate saying anything in his favor but putting him on the spot like that, no. 

2 - Austin was so terribly uncomfortable when the drama talk started.

3 - Katie and Zach? What?

4 - Taylor sounded so full of shit in her segment. She was making it up as she was going along, to quote Judge Judy.

5 - I'm not wild about Jessica but they look genuinely happy and were the only bright spot of this season.

A couple of thoughts...

First...why not just read the court pleadings or whatever to us...why put anyone in the middle of this...and frankly Brandon showed his ass the same way Taylor showed her real hairline when that busted wig was slipping and dragging...in other words you have two people who behaved poorly...so why let one tell a clearly “think of it as you are going along story” and not, say, record the other one doing the same thing at a separate time and place and then air it.  I am appalled by the need to manipulate a story like this one any farther....unnecessary and patronizing to the viewer.

Secondly, Katie looked and acted like a turtle stuck on the hot asphalt of a highway at noon...she couldn’t have looked more shifty, guilty, and uncomfortable (and that dress...please) she is only out for Katie and apparently the real Katie is only after sex with men who don’t really want her.  She is not a good friend, not wife material at the moment, and generally not a decent person.  I believe what was said about her tonight, and if it isn’t true..she set herself up and allowed herself to put in a position to be thought of in this way by being a spoiled and nasty brat to everyone we saw her interact with.

Thirdly...Michael and Zach should never have been on this show...those matches were dead before they started...I hope each person involved moves forward.... the woman to find healing and happiness..the men to a grammar and speaking coach, some therapy, a good hard lesson in telling the truth and finally happiness after much self-improvement.

And lastly...Best wishes to Jessica and Austin...who were clearly there for all the right reasons...who decided to let love grow..and who were probably the only real match made this season.  (Their lack of comfort with the shenanigans associated with the other marriages was obvious throughout and especially tonight and I say good for them for staying above it and out of it)

Onto Australia and New Orleans.....thanks for the fun this season, it’s certainly been a great diversion...

Stay healthy...wash your hands often...stay home...and take care of yourselves and those you love!!

My personal take is that I think there was no reason to bring up the court incident with Brandon and Taylor, it didn't happen during the season and it just wasn't right.  I'm glad that Michael protested it was warranted.  As far as Brandon is concerned I wouldn't doubt that he has an anxiety disorder and a lot of the process was more than he could handle.  I'm not trying to defend his behaviour it's just that I feel he did enough damage during the show but I don't think it's right or fair to then in turn do what they did tonight it was petty and wrong.  Once again I have to question the professionals on this show as they allowed this. They turned a bad situation into a circus.

At least now we know why Brandon was uninvited to the reunion. The fact that both he and Taylor were arrested and have restraining orders against each other, yet he was the one who couldn’t come to the reunion says all I needed to know about him. He’s probably one of those “If I can’t have you, no one else can” types. Hopefully Taylor’s new man is a real man and not an abusive jerk. 
Did Michael really try to use the “we’re both black” card in reference to Brandon,on Kevin who is also a black man? I agree with Kevin, Brandon and by extent Michael are both an embarrassment to Black people. Michael gives me strong Black Hebrew Israelites vibes, with his beads, trying to control Meka with lies and now his refusal to go against Brandon because he’s black. As a black woman if I had to choose between them and Zach, I’m going with Zach because he’s less of an embarrassment.

Derek finally found his voice and was shutting Katie down left and right. There’s a woman out there who will love and appreciate him for who he is. Katie can go back to her ex.....oh right I forgot he hit it and quit it. She’s such a fool and is perfect for her dog. Mindy should have just shut Zach out once she asked for a divorce. Of course she wasn’t going to get a straight answer from Zach. I’m honestly surprised that it was Zach and Katie who hooked up, I was genuinely hoping it was Derek and Taylor.

I am really happy for Derek, he is free of Katie, she is even worse than I expected.  I really believed a lot of her antics on the show were producer driven but looks like she was probably showing her true petty immature self after all. I hope he meets someone loving and caring.

Ok I just started watching this and haven't read any posts yet, so forgive me if I'm repetitive, but I just had to come make fun of Katie while it's fresh 😄 

First of all, loved the host asking her what SHE did for the marriage.  Answer [paraphrased]:  I was patient with his dorkiness, I communicated what a loser he was, I had sex with him 

Next I would like to go back to what I always thought:  this guy was not an "ex", he was a booty caller.  Called again and she went running, now they're done again.

ETA one more thing:  on the honeymoon she complained that he joined her in the shower when she needed her space - my theory is that she cut and humiliated him for that, so that his future attempts to "initiate" were always so mild that she barely noticed them.  She always says that she's the only one to initiate, and when he said tonight that he tried, and they ended up in separate bedrooms, she obviously knows he tried to initiate, but it wasn't good enough because he didn't initiate in the way in which she would have liked him to initiate.  Which is apparently to call her up, have sex and then ignore her until he is horny/she seems to have moved on.

Katie, we didn't like during the show and were really hoping Derek would say NO on decision day.  Now we know about your affair with the X, asking Derek not to mention it on the reunion show, and drinks+who knows with Zach, and that awful green dress.

Just when we thought you couldn't do anything worse, you do. AND you were matched with probably one of the best guys ever on this show.

So any great moments in this reunion.  My favorite that I haven’t already seen mentioned.  When Derek said he promised the other ladies he would not name who told him Katie had slept with her Ex 2 days after the honeymoon, Meka immediately said wasn’t her.  The rest of the ladies....crickets....lol...  Jessica looks down and fidgets....I don’t doubt Derek’s story at all.

Felt like Katie was trying to out whoever told Derek by saying that person misunderstood what she’d said.  Not sure how you could misunderstand a hookup that Katie was likely very proud of.

Wow - I just finished watching and I must say this was the best MAFS reunion yet!  I've never ever posted before reading the others, but I have a morning meeting and have to get this off my chest so I apologize in advance.

Poor Brandon - only has the biggest liar in MAFS history to speak up for him 😄 In a shocking twist, however, I found myself agreeing with Michael - it was not fair to make him the spokesperson for an unstable alcoholic, especially if Michael considers him a friend.

Then there's Katie, the sly bitch - trying to get with the "unattainable" Zach before the show was televised.  Then she sees him in action and decides to nope out 😄 However there was lots of time between their date and now - enough for him to have ignored her while she may or may not have pined for him 😄 

I loved Derek and Mindy both speaking their pieces and keeping their dignity.  Loved Derek outing that Katie took him to dinner to make sure he wouldn't mention her chicanery.  Loved Austin's sweet declaration at the end, and when he did it Derek had the same look of delight on his face that Zach gets when they're showing a clip of Zach.  I think Derek will be a great husband and dad someday, and Mindy will be a great wife and hopefully mother if she wants it.  Actually I think Mindy's the type who could be a great stepmother too.

That has nothing to do with Michael and he shouldn't have been put in that position.  The producers could have reached out to Brandon to do a Skype/Zoom/Pretaped Segment.  If Brandon refused, just have Kevin say they had reached out to Brandon to tell his side of the story but he refused.  The end.

While Michael lies and needs to go on somewhere with the lies, Meka runs her mouth too much for my tastes.  She does not need to air a hot take about everything.  Be quiet and listen sometimes.

Mindy is on the too trusting side and I think that's why Shannie & some other friends are protective of her.  There is no reason for Mindy to want to ever revisit a friendship with Lindsay under the guise of Lindsay being part of the group.  There is no reason for Lindsay to be part of the group anymore because if she'll poach Mindy's mate, she's liable to poach any of their mates.  Shannie saw Lindsay for the hater she is and is finished with her.  Any friend of Mindy that remains friends with Lindsay is not a real friend to Mindy.

Katie thought she was so clever with her tricks and games and her slip got exposed on national tv.  You love to see it.  She dumped Derek to run back to the ex, only for the ex to hit it and quit it.  She thought Derek was too dumb to figure out what she was up to and too timid to go against her and she thought she had it all handled when she took him out to dinner to get him not to expose her.  Mindy is probably the cast member who told Derek how Katie really gets down.

Katie is not marriage material.  Her dad knew Derek was as good as Katie would ever get.  Katie will only bring negativity, narcissism and lies to any relationship she's in. Derek dodged a bullet.

Taylor is scary. She plans out her deception and then takes no blame. She was stumbling all over herself with that arrest explanation and Kevin could see right through her.  

Mindy needs a little therapy to unravel why she feels the need to try to make things right with people in her life that have no respect for her and treat her like a door mat. I hope she never speaks to Katie again but something tells me she will since they're all such "good friends". Shannie wants nothing to do with Lindsey but Mindy reached out to her? Unbelievable.

So, Kaite's a slut, Derek grew a pair, Jaustin are simply too adorable for words, Taylor just can't stop being a flakey fabricator, Meka, incredibly, felt the need to apologize to Michael who still gives nothing but lies and a stone wall, Zak's a whorish predator, and Mindy's still a class act, even when acknowledging her use of an expletive when hearing about KatZak.

The second Katie admitted it was she who hooked up with Zakass, I thought 'of course'. Katie is so damn insecure she thinks she can boink her way into self-esteem. No wonder she was always trying to tear Derek down - his open posture and welcoming facial expressions said it all - he's a good guy who gave that little twit the benefit of far too many doubts. And she knows it. And knows that everybody else knows it too.

When Mindy was talking about the kids she works with having a competition (or was it performance?) very soon, I wondered if she was so familiar with 'stage' make-up that she just doesn't remember to tone it down for her everyday look.

Haven't read the rest of the board yet, but I'm hoping someone gives the info about the multi-MAFS-alumni show, the notice was gone before I realized what it was.

Katie was so wrong for this show in every way.  Derek didn’t deserve this.  I went to sleep early as I thought the reunion was going to be a bust.  I was happily surprised it wasn’t.  I’m not thrilled with Australia or the three experts coming back.  The show should have started fresh.  This group was BAD.  Kudos to Derek, Austin, Jessica and Kevin Frasier.  Oh, and Mindy.

In the early part of the discussion on the set about Brandon, Michael gave up one tidbit.  He said in court Brandon said that he knew from Day 1 he wasn't into the marriage with Taylor.

I think this supports the idea...Brandon found out about her trying to get on reality shows, and other fame seeking activities, whereby like for IG fame, he was just going to be fodder for her posts and imdb resume.

My guess is that it was Taylor. 

Jessica is possible, because she seems very into doing the right thing/being honest (she was the one to call out Zach while the others stayed quiet) but I don’t think she would have kept quiet. I think she’d have been open about having told Derek the truth.

Taylor sucks but I don’t feel bad for Brandon at all for how production dealt with him at the reunion. In my mind he didn’t deserve “fairness” by that point. If he wanted to be treated with respect by production, maybe he should have treated them with respect. What we saw was likely half of what really went on with him. He made their jobs hell, so when they got a chance to have him out of their hair, they took it. In my opinion he forfeited his right to be portrayed as he wanted when he showed his ass throughout the entire filming process. 

In terms of the confrontation, I doubt there was one victim or one perpetrator. I think it was both. Taylor seems like an instigator with a temper. Brandon seems scary and like he’d absolutely follow somebody trying to leave. I think it’s pretty simple- she tried to start something to make him jealous, he escalated it and took it way beyond where it needed to be, neither one could end it maturely and it turned physical. As for the anxiety disorder excuses from Michael and Brandon... I have a severe anxiety disorder. If you really do have one, it’s easy enough not to sign up for a reality TV show and marry a stranger. It wouldn’t be a good fit for my disorder, true. By their ages they should know that and they’re responsible for how they handle it. The entire premise of the show is that it’s nerve-wracking, anxiety-inducing and stressful. If you have anxiety that severe, don’t sign up for more. My husband uses a wheelchair so he’s not going to sign up for “The Challenge” and then get angry when he can’t do the physical stunts and blame the show. 

Somebody told Katie at some point that she was really, really special and she believed it. That girl sure does have a high opinion of herself.
