My mother was shot by an ex boyfriend (she survived, he killed himself) and my son's father was murdered by a gun.  Meghan thinking guns are a cultural symbol is utter bullshit. They are acting like assholes who think what they want is more important than the safety and health of everyone else. They can have several seats and Meghan can sit beside them.

White guys carrying guns to a protest are displaying a cultural symbol.   Yeah, OK.   But a bunch of Black guys who did that wouldn't be treated the same way, now would they?

As a resident of the middle of the country MM so loves to advocate for, displaying AK47s are not a cultural symbol.  It is a symbol of violence.  Some lee-way could be given if the protest had to do with 2nd Amendment rights.  But this protest had NOTHING to do with that.  It was a lawful protest, therefore you had no reason to fear for your safety.   The only other message I can take from the guns is that you are sending is you are willing to kill to get what you want.  

Imagine if BLM protests that happened included a significant number of protesters openly displaying firearms of any kind.  I just don't think MM would take the same position.

But then she's confused about the president's "narrative" concerning the second amendment, and says it's never been stronger.

Whoopie, Bill Maher didn't go on to accuse the media of panic porn, he did it in the clip you showed! 

Then, Meghan starts off by slipping in that "humble brag" and says that Bill Maher has "really elevated discussions with his panels", and I'm sure she thinks she and her husband have both been part of those "elevated" discussions.  Never mind that the clip had nothing to do with one of his panels; it was taken from his "New Rules" segment; he hasn't even had panels since he's been doing the show from his home.

Whoopie's voice is extremely, annoyingly, sing-songy today.  Both opening and closing the show by saying she just doesn't know what's going on - she is definitely stoned.

I get what MM is trying to say but that would support normal protests.  Still doesn’t explain the need for guns...and if this is a cultural symbol, then what culture is this? (I could say what I think but it’s probably off topic).  She’s trying to say these are all people scared about their jobs but I’d disagree as they don’t seem to be talking about that. They just don’t want to be told what to do or not do.   And no explanation of hers supports the need for guns.

This is exactly what I was thinking when MM said the protesters are showing their support for their second amendment right, I thought that the protesters were protesting staying home/shelter at home - why the need to brandish a gun much less a AK47?  These same people would be panicking and yelling for the government to do something if a group of people of color did the same thing.

MM both sides again....no Meghan, it isn’t a case of both the governors and the White House working together.  The governors have been trying to work with the WH from the start.  I really hate Her “both sides” crap.  But she did surprise me in agreeing on the fact that gun rights are strong right now..e.g. here in WA state gun ranges are considered “essential”.  I agreed with the ladies (even MM!) re the bill maher piece and media.  I think There can be a bit of a balance at this point...and, as Sunny said, facts. But it has to be carefully done.  I actually thought MM’s comment re trumps potential manipulation was a good one.

Meghan pissed me off when she was doing the "both sides"  bullshit with the president and the governors.   She couldn't be more wrong.   Our Illinois governor has been on TV doing briefings.  The contrast is stunning - he asks for help from the federal government, doesn't get it, finds solutions, and is completely transparent about cases, deaths, supplies, etc.   Meghan needs to take a look at what is actually happening, instead of using that "both sides"  line.

Meghan can't be blind to the fact protesters are open carrying huge ass guns simply because they want to look intimidating.  If she doesn't understand that she is being purposely ignorant.  As has been mentioned above by Tinkerbell any protests that had people of color walking around carrying any guns big or small would have been shut down immediately.  Meghan excusing it as "cultural" is one of the most ridiculous things she has ever said. 

Note to any Michigan protester carrying a Confederate flag: YOUR STATE WAS NOT PART OF THE CONFEDERACY. INSTEAD OF PROTESTING YOU SHOULD BE READING A HISTORY BOOK.

Kemp is a straight up asshole for this. As a PoC I’m of the opinion that he saw the numbers showing how black people are disproportionately getting affected by this and decided now is the time to reopen salons and such. Might sound harsh, but it is what it is. Anyway Idc what Kemp says, I’m staying my behind inside.
