Britt is also floundering since SB quit. I like her okay and it sucks for her but if they have nothing for her to do, they should at least take her off contract so she's not just showing up for pointless filler to fulfill minimums.

They hired CM months before Mr "Monavie in my veins only please" quit so if he returned CM wouldn't go anywhere unless by his choice. If anyone would be put to the side I think it would be DZ, imo. It would be Carly/Jason, Drew/Sam in that case probably. But even if they lifted the mandate I don't necessarily think he would be asked to return.

I didn't watch GH for a number of years when it conflicted with my work hours. So, my recollections of Jeff Webber are from waaaay back and I think he was a reasonably nice-ish guy, at least as far as soap opera guys go. So why is Liz on the outs with him? Is it something so awful that her son would be afraid she's angry if he communicates with his grandparents?

Heck, Sonny is a mobster for heaven's sake and no one keeps his kids/grandkids from talking to him.

probably just pissed that he is never around. but i don't get why she'd be pissed off that Jake wants to talk to them. that was so weird.

Yeah, Jeff's time was pretty long ago. Literally more than 40 years (1976-81).

I haven't seen today's show yet, but several months ago, Violet was pestering about why she knows Grandpa Gregory (Finn's father) but hasn't met Hayden/Liz's father. It came out that he's just a name to all of Liz's sons too, and they don't know why. Liz was weird and evasive and uncomfortable with the whole topic. Then when she was alone, she ripped up the photo of him that Aiden had printed out, and the creepy music was on the soundtrack.

But we don't know any more than that yet. I also noticed that when Temp Monica was talking about him, they took pains to emphasize that her memories of him were from so long ago.

I always thought Jeff Weber was hot.

Today they had Spencer acting way more gullible and boyfriendy toward Esme, so I guess the are setting it up for him to be a victim crushed by her betrayal, instead of him being culpable cuz he should have known. I wish they had kept Ryan out of this, I would have enjoyed this story more with Esme being grey instead pitch black, and it is frankly too soon for another Ryan story.

I hope this isn't a prelude to a character assassination of Jeff Webber. Back in the day, he was a typical soap guy - some cheating, maybe, some family tensions, and so on - but not a bad person. Whatever Liz has against him, I hope it is more in the nature of family resentments (like, you never came to my games kind of thing) and not any kind of truly evil stuff. Nik pretended to be dead, and Spencer terrorized his stepmother and yet they still talk (more or less).

Seriously, when did Ava and Nina become superfriends? I ain't forgot what she did to Ava!

Jeff is a huge dick in old episodes who had some dark, dark days before he became the more sympathetic dick-swinging romantic lead, and even then he wasn't a wonderful guy IMO, but that's looking at it through today's lens - he was presented as a good man. I think they can present a complicated version of Jeff Webber and his mysterious wife, I've certainly had a lot of ideas about how to bring them on over the years. But going for some sort of molestation or trauma angle would be, IMO, beyond the pale if it actually goes there. I do think Liz should have huge issues with him abandoning her though.

I have always wanted Liz's heretofore unnamed mom (I guess she's Carolyn now?) to come on as a brilliant surgeon and queen bitch to wreak havoc on everyone's lives. And I do think Robert Newman, when he is inevitably released by Y&R, would make a good Jeff. He had the mix of pathos and smug arrogance on GL that would make that work.

I've always thought that she was resentful of being pretty much dumped by him.  She was sent to live with grandma Audrey when she was a fairly young teen (the perfect age to be resentful). And he's never come back to town since then. So I can understand her not wanting to have a relationship with him now that she's in her 30s or 40s.

But we also know that the writers don't necessarily see a need to pay attention to the show's history, so who knows what they'll come up with.

I haven’t watched most of the past decade so I maybe missed something, but both of Liz’s parents pretty much abandoned her at 15 no? And haven’t been around for any of the huge life changing things that have happened to her? Weddings and deaths and births? That seems good enough reason to be on the outs with her dad. Sad that relationship is repeated with Aiden and his dad too.

I don't want them to get rid of Britt.  She's such a fun character.  I thought the actress had good chem with Steve, but I think, given the chance, she could have good chem with "Drew."  Or Austin.  Or dodging her mother trying to set her up with everyone.

I don't know what the plan was when they brought back Drew, but right now, they are spinning their wheels.

Drew never was defined, which is what allows them to do what they like. But I don't think they have any clue what to do with Cameron, which is too bad because when he's given good material (and a beard!) he can still do well. There is absolutely a place on the show for a Quartermaine who served his country in a heroic role on the show as a romantic lead; it would be a nice palate cleanser. But without a clear direction they just have Cameron basically being his talk show persona.

The problem is that Drew has no memory of being Drew prior to 2012 when he was originally abducted by Helena via Shiloh for her ‘experiments’.

I remember when they had to write Liz off for actress pregnancies that she went to see her parents in Europe.

It was amazing they finally gave Liz's mother a name.  But then at some point he cheated and produced Hayden - maybe Liz is mad about that.  Then again, she got along with Hayden OK.

I don’t remember Liz going to see her parents when Becky was on maternity leave—I remember they had her to see her sister (whose name I cannot remember) in California. (Edit: Sarah!  Man, that was driving me nuts that I couldn’t remember her name)

Ugh, Drew is this close to wearing a sandwich board announcing “free hugs.”

Seriously. The Q mansion doesn't feel like itself since this remodel. My mom went through an all white decorating phase when I went to college. At least she came to regret it. The austerity of that set is gone, replaced by sterility. And a shit ton of blue delft.

The sets have improved recently, a fair amount since most of the 2010s when everything was gun-metal gray. I could tolerate the Q drawing room and the foyer even if they're super different, but this kitchen is ridiculous.

She's pretty forgettable. Sarah is the lamest of all canonical Webbers. Maybe it has to do with the two meh young actresses they cast to play her, but she didn't leave much of an impression either time. The first Sarah and Nikolas were obviously earmarked as the signature young couple. They even had their own song. Flop. The second time, she was an insta-doctor and she had a soapy "torrid affair" with the Jacob Young Lucky, complete with an arty soft-core sex scene with weird lighting...and still, when she left town shortly thereafter, it was an afterthought.

But that's my recollection too: Liz has visited Sarah, but not the folks.

I have never forgotten that weird porn-y scene where she photographed him or he modeled, or the other way around and she was telling him what to do - I don't remember. Then they flirted with making her psycho, then wrote her out. I don't think she got an onscreen exit.

Sarah is a cursed role, it's true. But with the right actress I think it's perfectly viable, and I'd do it. The long tension with Liz is there to play.

I'm so glad that rang a bell with someone else. As I recall, that was when "photographer" was Lucky's thing (originally to get him into the Face of Deception story). He went to the studio and Sarah was behind a bright light, so at first he and we were hearing her disembodied voice giving him commands. It ended up with the two of them naked and going at it.

Sarah Laine played Sarah Webber like a Blade Runner replicant that couldn't pass the test. She would do "seductive" or "compassionate" or "concerned," but it was like there was always faulty code.

Yeah, she was behind the lights telling him what to do and it got kinky. It was so bizarre. I have never forgotten it. I think this was part of the period when Guza and co. were back and ghostwriting after Jill and Megan flamed out, but I may be wrong. (I am fairly certain they ghostwrote the Carly fake death material, which was pretty damn good and starkly better than what we'd been watching for a year.) Either way, Sarah turned a little nuts not long after and then vanished. Sarah Laine was not good.

For those wondering if grandparents suing for visitation is really a thing, when I was a kid, our neighbor had a falling out with her adult daughter and went to family court so she could see her grandchildren. She was granted supervised visits but both parties had to agree on the supervisor. The person they ultimately agreed on was my mother. This was in NJ about 30 years ago.

So yes, Nina can get visitation, and if Michael and Willow are concerned that she might somehow “damage” Wiley, they can get Stella to supervise. I’m sure she has lots of free time now that Mike is gone. And then we won’t have to hear from any of them on this stupid subject anymore.

Also, when the truth comes out about the sex tape, I want Joss and Trina to get revenge on Esme by drugging her, cutting off all that super shiny, annoyingly long hair, and donating it to Locks of Love.

Albeit for a different reason, and a different episode, Law & Order (the mothership) had the father of his 11-year old daughter, fight to have his parents take custody, because his mother-in-law, and his wife, (silently accepting because it was done to her) and her (MIL) brother, wanted to mutilate the daughter (FMG); he killed the uncle, and only agreed to a plea on the condition the maternal grandma have nothing to do with raising Allison (the daughter) or any say in how she would be raised. "Ritual" was the episode; season 8 (1997-98).

I also referenced many pages back the one where the parents of the rapist sued for custody.

With a very young Emmy Rossum playing the little girl ( classic L&O!)

I don't like all the Q kitchen scenes because I thought it was cannon that their cook "Cook" was a tyrant, and didn't let anyone mess with her domain.

Grandparents' rights depend on the state.  In my jurisdiction, grandparents have no right to sue for visitation w/their grandchildren. I prefer it that way.

However, for purposes of this show, I hope Nina sues and gets unsupervised weekly visits. That would be hilarious and would make Millow (and Carly) miserable thereby making me happy! LOL!

Avery Pohl is amazing. I'll be so mad at this show if they don't redeem the hell out of Esme. The fact that Esme is crying - it's like why are you crying? do you really like Spencer, are you just mad that Spencer isn't choosing you, is it all of the above, none of the above - her acting choices just makes me question everything lol which i love because she's making Esme an Onion so  many layers.

I know people are going to be on Spencer and stuff. but I... get what he means. it's hard to give up on people. It's difficult to leave someone if you know you are their only means of support. (and we know all Esme has is Ryan and that's not healthy and safe, and Spencer doesn't even know that). Everyone telling him to just dump esme has an entire support system. if something goes bad, they have someone and if they did go ape and do something terrible. they'd also have a support system waiting to forgive them for it.  I won't rag on Spencer for wanting to be that for Esme (but i do need him to be a bit less butter and little bit more straight forward with it). (and NC is awesomeness right now too).

that was the best part of the episode for me. Trina/Esme/Spencer bits.

Yes I agree, they are both fantastic in their roles, and I do not want the writers to write her into a corner.   They just can't help themselves i've noticed.  Just  like they never should have had Sonny murder Aj and now have to act as if AJ's mother would be like "bygones".   They need to stop doing that stuff.

Pretty much. I mean they should have just had Sonny accused of it - but have soemone else do it because quite frankly why is everyone in Q land so chill with Sonny showing up all the time after what he did to AJ (oh right because who cares about AJ).

like as of now i'll admit it. it will be a long road to hoe (and for me personally, i think Esme was pretty much behind all the stalking that was like actual cruel - the hand, the teddy bear, etc, while Spencer just did the cockroach, but he covered for Esme). the sex tape scandal will be her big black mark (just like with Carly hers imo started with dumping AJ in that shopping cart and dousing him w/booze to make him believe he fell off the wagon, and the Q's being pissed off at him for drinking again) - but if they tried (key word here tried), I think they could spin this into having her deprogrammed as a Ryan minion. and then actually trying to make amends.

and the beautiful part is - since it's boy who cried wolf so many times people won't believe her. she'd have to really work at it and struggle - and then Cam can see that she is really struggling to make amends, and then they fall in love and joss turns green with envy and explodes - (well actually, can be the foil that she needs that  won't ever go away). . but it's kind of hilariously sad that the people i am most gripped by in this storyline is Esme (where you know the show wants you more focused on Joss, the victim).

I did not hate Sonny/Nina today. On the one hand, I'm like they can be really good friends and Carly's head can explode all over the place. On the other hand, I don't care about either.

Of course Carly is now in on the whole Victor business. Because Carly absolutely needs to be involved in every single storyline. Carly shows up, proceeds to blow up the whole operation because that's what she does.

Victor: Kill Yohan.

Yohan instead of defending himself begs Victor to call off Drew. Like dude, throw a punch? Run? Toss Victor overboard.

So Trina has officially been set up by Esme for the sex tape. And Spencer is dumb. And Spring Ridge really is a country club jail. You can leave and take a stroll all the way to the cemetery, people walk in and out, they can bring books and cupcakes by, they can yell at each other. There are actually more consequences in a country club at people yelling at each other than there is at Spring Ridge.

Britt, Carly is a bitch, don't apologize to her for her being rude to you. Seriously. And I don't care that Carly managed to have 5 seconds worth of self-awareness.

Today on Carly Ruins Everything:

That's it. Carly ruins everything.  Also that Dante is a dummy if he doesn't have a backup for the wifi when he's trying to trap Victor.

----------------

Who is Richard Molyneux? None of my searches turn him up. Did they make up someone for this plotline? Couldn't they find a real painter?

Esme calling the tip line is a stupid move on her part. I assume it's so that Spencer has to decide whether to give her an alibi in the graveyard but it means admitting that he got out.

Scenes with Nina can make me feel more sympathetic to Sonny.

Of course Carly blundered into the undercover operation. See, stupid Drew, this is why when you were getting the calls and texts and she asked, "Aurora business?" you should have just said yes.  Or "something like that."

Another scene of Sonny talking about his long-ago abusive stepfather with his new love interest. The character hasn't progressed much in 25 years, has he? Deke stories are almost a mating ritual.

The best part of the episode was when Carly said that sometimes she sees a man in a black T-shirt at the Metro Court restaurant and she thinks for a second it's Jason. Like this is Vertigo. Maybe she'll give Drew a complete makeover. I can just see them at a department store, with Carly being rude to the saleslady. "These are all V-necks! They're all wrong." Drew, meekly: "Carly, these are fine. I like them." Carly: "No, they're not. Not a one of them is right. I know what kind of a shirt would look well on you!" When she's completely made him over to her satisfaction, they can have a 360-degree kiss bathed in green light.

I have such Carly-fatigue.

Is this just so she and Drew can 'fall in love' during an adventure?

She's going through a divorce and her daughter was just the victim of revenge porn, why doesn't she just take care of her own damn business and NOT get all up in Drew's!?!?

( And so help me, if Victor manages to activate Drew's conditioning and effin Carly breaks through it with a tearful declaration of love, I'm headed back to the barge)
