Episode Discussion II: The TFGH

Culture Check: How can we discuss a character's or actor's appearance without objectifying them? How can we express likes or dislikes and still respect an individual's humanity or be mindful that a character represents a person someone else might relate to or identify with?

That was one Creepy Christmas with Carly whispering to Sasha ‘Welcome to The Family’.  Was it just me or did Sasha look a bit put off by that?

It's not just you.  Those weren't tears of joy in Sasha's eyes.

Sasha’s been trying to get away from the mob. Now she’s right smack in the middle of it. I wonder if this was intentional on Gladys’ part. She desperately wants Brando to be part of Sonny’s organization.
I did like that Sasha and Brando ended up together out on the patio, away from the rest. Maybe there is hope for them yet.

Esme is pushing this cabin too much. She has some plot.

I love Scott going after Michael and Willow.

A lot of it just poor pacing combined with bad writing. Her character could be far more compelling as a villain, or not, with good writing

It's a cult. They're trying to suck her in with her greatest vulnerability, wanting to be part of a family.

All of Nik’s attempts have involved berating Spencer. He hasn’t tried to just spend time with the kid or understand the root cause of what’s happened. I don’t totally get Spencer deciding to hate Nik because of Hayden, but Nik seems completely checked out when it comes to his son.

There have been a least couple of time when Nik approached Spencer reasonably but Spencer's response was always "It's Ava or me".  That's not possible or healthy for either Nik or Spencer. They need someone to intervene in family therapy. Kevin would be the one who should do it but he's busy enabling Spencer to live without dealing with Nik.

Kevin shouldn't be the one to do it because he is family. Unfortunately, the show gets rid of the doctors in favor of new people related to Sonny.

Until she does something she did as very un-Corinthos. Like not dropping her life and putting them first, not badmouthing the people they hate or not hoarding babies.

IA and I think we’re about to see this happen with Willow. Carly, especially, expects everyone to fall in line with her 100% of the time.

I promise to not call GH "this fakakta show" or say a bad word about these writers for at least 6 months... well, maybe 3, if they have Willow realize she traded one cult for another and gets the heck out of Clan Corinthos.

In fact, I'll tack on an extra month if Harmony is the one who helps her realize this and gets her out.

That song is either not in Burton's natural range or he's not much of a singer. I thought BA and JPS were the best.

JPS definitely has a talent for singing. I guess that makes sense with his family heritage. I love listening to him sing. I didn't realize BA was that good. I was getting old-school crooner vibes from him. Steve Burton, though, well, he used to be a pretty face so that's something, right? He and Marcus Coloma were definitely the weakest of the four.

we get double half nekkid sweater Chase shots. loveeeeee.
one was a dream and BLQ is like i've been single too long.  One was actually hot yoga. Drew is like if this is what it takes to keep in shape in 2021 i want to get back in confinement.

Drew is blowing smoke up Corinthii Coffee's ass. He wants to be productive. He doesn't want to go back to Aurora Media because of Sam, and he takes a pot shot about working at ELQ. they go talking about HatMan and they say they should find out who he was pretending to be. vs looking for Hatman himself.

Laura and Colonel Tad are talking. Laura is being a bit judgey pants. Val sees Col. Tad and goes "did something go wrong at the mall." Val wants revenge on BLQ. Tad said he'll help. They talk about Anna and Val goes are you going after Anna? Tad is like nah my hat is out of that ring. Both go 'you'll lose." Tad goes he likes Lucy. Val is like wait. no you can't do this. Lucy and I are making Deception public and Lucy tends to best her lovers- so you can either have Lucy or me, Col. Tad.

Maxie is being a chatter box in yoga. Lucy is legit getting off dreaming of Colonel Tad. hahaha , they ditch yoga so they can continue talking about the ONS.

Anna and Mistah Sheffield chat. Anna points out she's following him. if Mistah sheffield steps out of line. she'll deal with him. He claps back "Like you dealt with Peter?" hahahaha.

Hatman and Piph are talking. don't care

Esme keeps talking about this STUPID. TRIP. THEY. AREN'T. GOING. ON.  Spencer is freaking out he has to go to baby jail. Laura shows up and Spencer is on edge. Esme calls her grandmother and Laura is like excuse me? Laura will do.  Laura doesn't know if she trust Spencer since he's buddy buddy w/Mistah Sheffield.

BLQ can't stop drooling over nekkid Chase. Ned is like. aww bad dreams, and BLQ deflects. Ned starts being a cow being how you messed up your life. BLQ goes off on him, but ned goes. it's my fault. I didn't give you a good example in life. now they are both sad. Ned says you need to make sure Chase doesn't hold bailey over your head. Chase went ahem ahem..  Ned goes. just legally get your ducks in a row for bailey's sake

Now we get Willow swearing to tell the truth. Nina looks freak. Nina. just stahp.  Team Corinthii is like this is crazy, why are they doing this to POOR WLLOW.  LMAO Michael is like. "Scott won't be okay after I get through with him." Oh shut up.  You bribed the DA, and Scott found out, the DA put her on the stand, not Scott so just die already. the DA is so stupid with his questions. Nina. just stop looking like you wanna poop your pants. If you want to go to jail tell Scott, if you don't let the man do his job. haha. Scotty goes  "so you guys are only raising your son, you aren't married? how modern." DA goes relevance?  Judge goes stick to the point,  Scotty goes"Willow did y'all talk about the bribe after the DA left?" Willow goes "hey wait! i thought my conversations were protected!" Judge goes. "yeah no. it's not." Scotty goes. "yeah  only married people get that privilege" (everyone looks like they pooped their pants. haha Smart Scotty is in today!). Scotty goes. and remember. there's a penalty of perjury. Willow dances around the fact yes indeed Michael bribed the DA, and goes. Michael wanted justice. Scotty goes, do you think there was even justice to be had? Did Sonny seem like a victim to you?" Nina looks petrified and is shaking her head. Carly doesn't get why Scotty is going after Willow. Willow goes Sonny is no one's victim. Scotty presses. Scotty goes do you have any reason to thin why Sonny wouldn't go after Nina? Now Sonny looks like he pooped his pants and Carly is super confused. (to be honest, I don't get why Scotty just doesn't go. "isn't it true that they were together." (but i guess he's trying to honour Lisel's  request.

LMAO. Sonny is like. look we have to go now. Carly is like? What?! No! Sonny is like i need to talk to you and Carly yanks her hand and goes "no i wanna stay!!" Nina is like Scotty stop! and Scotty rightfully tells her to shut up lol, and tells Willow i wonder if Wiley will remember you when you get out of jail in seven years, and Willow shrieks YES! there's another reason why Sonny didn't press charges

Willow is crying now and saying she overheard the conversation. Michael is looking confused. Carly is starting to look pissed. Willow says that whatever happened in NF has to come from me. Carly looks super pissed. Willow goes they were talking about love. Michael looks... i can't even describe that look. But Carly's face just went nuclear and she unleashes that glare at at Sonny.

Ahhhh Merry Christmas to us!!!!!  Seeing Sonny all shifty eyed and squirming while Carly shot daggers out of eyes was the highlite of this boring post Christmas/Omicron day!!!

Plus throw in some half naked Chase and the guy who was behind Drew in the yoga class who was wearing pants that matched his skin tone and I thought he was naked 😄 it was a good day!

I gotta say the courtroom scenes were the highlight of today's show and the main reason I turned in. For once, I got a little bit of drama so that was nice!! I had to laugh at Sonny trying to get Carly out of the courtroom and confess real quick because he knew he was about to be exposed! LOL!!! That was hilarious!! I also liked how Carly wouldn't leave! She knew what was up!

Michael is so annoying. His threat against Scotty for doing his job was just too much! I'm glad his bribery is going to fail and fail in a spectacular way! He should have talked to Sonny before doing this! Maybe it's my practice, but I've learned to never be more outraged or enraged than the actual victim. Sonny was too nonchalant about what happened. Michael should have picked up on that and known something was up.

I really wonder if the actresses playing Maxie and Brook Lynn are the ones really self-conscious about how they appear on camera or is wardrobe clueless? Why is Maxie in a hoodie in a HOT yoga class? Why was Brook Lynn in a wool jacket and a blazer while locked in a sauna? And the yoga classes were back-to-back so I doubt the temperature had dropped. It's very odd and noticeable at this point.

I can't believe those kids have not gone on this trip, yet? Can they please go already?!? They've been talking about it for months now! It's silly at this point. I did mute them after awhile, but the show needs to move their (all the teens/YAs) story along. It's stagnant.

she wasn't going to do a hot yoga class. they were going to do regular yoga. to be fair i've never done stuff in a studio for a very long time so i don't really know if it makes sense to have hot yoga followed by regular yoga back to back anyway. In regards to the being covered up all the time - i honestly think it's the actresses decisions. (I mean wardrobe is still mean for getting ugly clothes), but at the same time again for me. it is just natural.  as i've stated before regardless of my size (which does up and down on the regular, right now it's firmly on the up) I almost always cover up. I wear jeans and a hoody in the summer, in hot/warm places i am usually covered, and i deal with the sweat afterwards. (to be fair i've never been in a sauna LOL so i'd imagine i'd take a layer off) - but like even when I did work out in the gym moons ago. i was ALWAYS covered up more than others (again never hot yoga, but Maxie did specifically say this is why she doesn't do hot yoga).  but because I do this in real life (and I know others who do) to me it's not odd. some people just don't like showing off their body even during warm/hot temps and I like this little touch of realism.

Sweet Jesus Willow was insufferable today on the stand!  Her little snide attitude was driving me up a wall.  I loved the judge though. “Aren’t my conversations with Michael protected?”  “No.”  Heh.

At least I got some comic relief with Michael saying Scott will not be so happy when Michael’s done with him.  Oh, I laughed and laughed.  As if, Michael.

All kidding aside though, the courtroom scenes where really good.  I was actually interested in how they were going to play out.  And the ending - a thing of beauty.  Michael super confused, Carly staring daggers (finally at Sonny not Nina), and Sonny’s wide eyed Oh Shit face.  Soapy!

I’m sorry if this is sexist but I enjoyed the men’s yoga class.  I’m only human!  Lynn Herring also looks amazing.  I know Kristen Storms has gained weight but honestly it’s the way they dress her that makes her look super dumpy.  It’s so annoying, because you don’t have to have a Lynn Herring body to look cute.  It’s been said before, but Maxie’s wardrobe, including hair and makeup most days, is awful.

Yep, that’s my problem with it - the UGLINESS of the clothes!  Like they can be as covered up as they want if that’s how they feel comfortable but there is no excuse for the atrocities they make Maxie wear on the regular (let’s not even discuss hair and makeup).  Brooklyn’s look is ok.  Kinda boring with the vast array of blazers, but she still looks put together.  Her hair and makeup are always on point. Maxie, who used to be a fashion fanatic just looks messy all the time.

i put them on blast on twitter on the regular. (the show not the actresses). if you honestly don't know how to dress plus size people. - find a plus size person, hire them, and let them dress the plus size people.  we do know how to shop and look good you know.

The Corinthos clan with egg on their face is such a lovely sight.

Michael. No one is scared of you. Least of all, Scott. He'll probably walk away while you're mid-sentence because you're boring him.

I have nothing good to say about Willow on the stand. Or that dumb dumb Michael bribed to have Nina arrested. I also find it incredibly gross that he used ELQ to do so. Isn't there some law about the misuse of funds or something like that? Maybe Michael should be charged with the real crimes. The first one should be for existing, the second one should be for looking so greasy and the last one should be for being a complete loser and a temper-throwing toddler.

I have no issues with BL's Chase dreams. None whatsoever. And I see that we have a nice trio of good looking men hanging out together and I am not against that at all. I call this great progress.

They are not plus size actresses. Nowhere near that. They are at best a size six and at worst a size 8.

It's not like they do any better with their itsy bitsy actresses. I can only think of MW and LLC being the best dressed ones on a regular basis. The rest is not great.

Makeup and hair aren't any better.

well i mean in general to to be fair. but regardless if they are size six or eight or eighteen or thirty eight, it's your job to dress them properly and if you can't  because you don't know what bigger people wear (bigger being a relative term here) - then hire people who are of a bigger size to do the job because they'll be able to dress any size properly, not just ittybity. I will also say i think that Brit, Esme, Portia, Trina always look very fetch lol (yes i am trying to make fetch happen ;) ). but i also do believe tastes are relative too. because while people were ragging on Sam's cargo skirt, i really liked it. I didn't like the top she wore w/it (sans bra it looked like).

the thing is. i really hope they don't sweep this one under the rug because Michael did commit a crime. that was Sonny and Carly's first reaction of "what if you get caught for bribery" and Michael's like nah the lawyers said it was okay. Probably because you didn't tell your lawyers you were going to ask the DA to press charges for a made up crime so he could get the money (and if the lawyers DID know that and told Michael to go ahead then Ned needs to fire those people ASAP). it hasn't been the first time Michael used the Q name to get stuff done for the Corinthii which basically solidifies the fact that as powerful as Sonny believes that he is, his name means nothing outside of mob crap. (and this is why the Q's need non Corinthii boot lickers to call Michael on that crap).

I did hate Willow's little self righteous attitude on the stand so having her world blow up was great to see. the Previews - well we all called it. and i am glad. glad glad.

Thanks for the clarification! I guess I wasn't paying close attention. I just noticed her hoodie while everyone else was much less covered up. She was practically in a sack.

It feels like a weight thing to me. As I said before, maybe the actresses are uncomfortable or wardrobe has no Size 8-10 clothes for them to wear but it's noticeable and distracting. Wardrobe needs to do better! If the actresses are self-conscious, I'd shut up about it but I worry it's the wardrobe dept!

Those scenes were excellent! And the ending with Sonny practically whistling and looking away all “nothing to see here, testimony what testimony” cracked me up. Michael and Carly are so pissed and they’re going to take it all out on Willow. What a win/win. The only thing that could make it better is Nina not being so sad sack about the whole thing. Wish she could revel in this a little.

Laura being all “bitch what?” to Esme trying to call her Grandmother was also wonderful. I’m assuming Esme is just trying to secure her guest room while Spencer is away for a month but that girl has never heard of subtle.

I think the wardrobe, makeup and hair people really suck at their jobs. Even someone coming out of beauty school can do a better job than that. You're either good at what you do, or you're not. And they generally suck.

About Sam's skirt. Skirts like that are my jam and I am a Free People fan generally speaking, but that skirt was no good for KMo. That's a high waist skirt with a belt and they made her or she decided to fold the top of the skirt instead of wearing it the way it was meant to be worn. And that probably happened because the top of the skirt would've ended up right under her boobs. And Kelly's top actually changed between scenes. So the skirt for Kelly specifically was a faux-pas, imo. I think it would have looked much better on someone like the other Kelly.

Thank you for indulging the fashion talk.

Kudos to Genie today.  Everything between Laura and spencer was spot on.  I also loved her look of disgust and revulsion when Esme called her Grandmother and then quickly backtracked and called her Mayor when she saw the look Laura was giving her.

Oops, Sonny - you really should have told Carly more about your time in Nixon Falls.

And Michael, that was the very definition of a bribe. The DA who took it should have known better. Too bad there are no journalists attending this hearing, because this would be a high-profile story and the DA could (in fact should) end up out on his rear end instead of getting reelected in some yet to be held (?) election.

The dirty DA was right.  That was completely hearsay.  Scott asked Willow what she knew about 2 different conversations that she wasn't a party to.  But, setting that aside I hope Willow tells the entire truth and then unapologetically tells Michael that if he hadn't bribed the DA and that if Sonny hadn't hidden his relationship with Nina, none of this would have ever happened.   Very little annoys me more than people blaming other people when they get in trouble for something they actually did.

Getting back to the ridicoulousness of the proceedings, Willow was put on the stand by the DA to countermand Scott's assertion that she and Michael bribed him.  Scott would't be allowed to ask her why she thought Sonny didn't press charges.  That would have been shut down immediately.

On an unimiportant aside, I really liked the camera angle that had Nina and Carly basically side by side but one at the front of court and the other in back.

This hearing would never have happened on Law & Order :-)

Although, I wonder since Scott asked Willow what she overheard, if that is allowed. Speculating why Sonny did or didn't do something seems more iffy.

As much as I enjoyed today's scenes of Scotty being a good lawyer, Michael being a weasel and Sony trying to get out of Carly hearing, I'm reminding myself that on this show, every storyline ends with "Carly/Sonny/Michael/Joss wins. Still, it's fun while it lasts.

KSt is a good actress when they let Maxie be normal rather than an idiot. Her gossipy scene with Lucy was fun.

Drew suggests to Curtis that maybe the reason they can't find any digital presence on Marshall because he was going under a different name and that they look for information on him there. Finally Curtis does PI work with someone with brains. But Drew doesn't want to work at Aurora so maybe they are going to to a Dante/Sam/Drew triangle.

Josh Swickard is mighty good looking but CM for a man in his 50s was awesome. That was a good look on my screen. So was Col Martin in his Santa suit.

I know that Michael will never get into trouble but what right did he have to authorize an ELQ donation? He is no longer CEO or ELQ. Valentin should go after him for making that donation and using it for his own personal purposes.

Not that the judge even gave Scotty a moment to respond but the excited utterance exception would likely apply here. If not there are a couple of other hearsay exceptions that could be used. It was also sooooo deliciously soapy.

Willow is going to be incredibly apologetic though, and also I’m guessing fearful (justifiably) that Michael will take Wiley from her.

I would love if Michael and Carly took their anger out on Willow and that was the final straw for her. I don’t have much faith in anyone winning a custody battle against them and I think Millow are here to stay for a while but I would love to see it happen.

Spencer was a little shit today. He’s clearly not sorry for what he did, he’s just upset he was caught. He still can’t even admit he hurt anyone. And while I think Nik has been a neglectful father as of late, when he asked if Laura was going to jump straight to hating him like Nik did, his self pity was too much.  Maybe a stint in baby prison will be good for him.

Sonny and Carly was problematic but why couldn't she say what was going on in the conversation that she had with Michael and the DA? Or what she talked to Michael about later?

It was the part where what did Michael tell you after that conversation about what happened that I think would be the problem.  It sounds like most of the "good" stuff she knew about that was hinted to her afterwards by Michael.

At least I got some comic relief with Michael saying Scott will not be so happy when Michael’s done with him.  Oh, I laughed and laughed.  As if, Michael.

Yeah, I'm sure Scott will be quaking in his boots as he blows passed that asshole on his way to see his sweet schnitzel.

I see in the previews Michael is pissed at Willow for not telling him what she overheard, so that's right on schedule.  Next up with be Joss's righteous indignation and if Carly can stop screaming at Sonny for a moment I'm sure she'll be in her crosshairs.  You wanted to be a member of that family, Willow, so here you go.

I think it’s Perks.  That set lacks any broader shot to make that clear (like a restaurant set or the coffee shop on Y&R) but at least is a better place for a private conversation than the Metro Court or GH hallway.

Thanks for your reply but I don’t know where Perks is. Am I the only one?

That's probably THE WORST LOOK Chad has given and he's given doozies.  It was like he was trying to multiply the square root of pie with the algorithm for the circumference of the moon in his head.

Whenever CD does his puzzled/confused face, I can't tell whether he's constipated or has diaper rash. Or both.

Perks is Sonny’s coffee shop, though I think all we’ve seen of it is the little table with the wall ferns and the front door. There’s a little Perks cart/kiosk too.  It was a “thing” for a moment a while back when Morgan was managing it but now it’s basically just a random set. The only reason I remember the name is that I used to frequent a real life coffee shop by the same name.

I’ve seen that look described (not sure if here or elsewhere) as “sad dog taking a poop.”

but thankfully she legally adopted him. so she can sue for full custody and then never let these mobsters see him again. (if she did that i might start to like her again)

Oooh! That would be ironic (and soapy) - the adoptive mother gains custody despite the biological father (who is very sketchy). And it promises many conflicts for the future.

I still think that Sonny should hit Michael upside his head for taking it on himself to do things that would affect "the family" when he is so incompetent.

Bradford Anderson was good in that song clip. I think he should give up his acting career and get a singing career.

Wasn't Kristina working at Perks at some point when they were all 'honouring' Morgan with Avery and kicked Ava out? Perks seems to be either a kiosk that is conveniently situated in any outdoor area that they need a coffee kiosk, and that one room where people talk that isn't as classy as the Metro Court or the Savoy or as populated as Kelly's.. It used to be Charlie's where people met for coffee but now that Sonny's given it to Phyllis to manage...

Michael is really working the Wannabe Mobster routine between threatening Brad, Selena and now Scot. And every time he does, he makes it harder for Sonny because he just doesn't understand anything.
