They did the same joke with the same name, when Titus kept acting like he couldn't remember the name of his ex's new boyfriend, and called him things like "Jorp." I have to think it's either a strange coincidence or an homage. I don’t think it’s either, necessarily. It’s a joke that’s been used in many sitcoms. Like Michael purposely not remembering his son’s girlfriend’s name on Arrested Development (“her?”). 1 Link to comment

As noted, there isn't much in vampire lore regarding formerly Muslim vampires and the effects a Christian church would have on them. Instead, the show just likes playing with tropes even if they're contradictory. If it's funny, they're going to go for it. He had 37 wives. He loved 35 of them. CletusMusashi June 22, 2019 Share June 22, 2019 To be honest, I'd barely even heard of "Only Lovers Left Alive" before Tilda came on this show. I finally decided to check it out. Holy crap, that was a mistake. Boring, insufferably pretentious, and not even a single person yelling "BAT!" I watched about half an hour of it, then it sat unwatched in my DVD player for another day, then I said "screw this" and mailed it back to Netflix. Now I need to cleanse my pallette with a real vampire movie, like "The Deathmaster" or "Scream, Blacula, Scream." It not her fault the movie sucked, though. It was a boring script. Shit, I would happily star in far, far worse movies than that, and probably for less money, if the opportunity was offered. I did enjoy her WWDitS character, and I think she was a great sport for coming on and spoofing herself. 3 Link to comment
JanetSnakehole June 23, 2019 Share June 23, 2019 I love Jim Jarmusch, and felt Only Lovers Left Alive was a sweet movie about lovers throughout the centuries, their weariness with their vampiric existence, and their appreciation for safety, and true friends. It really only scare-startled me once, and that was the very end. I didn't find it pretentious, because they were pretty glum characters, who were struggling to find the beauty in the world after living for so long. They weren't high-falutin' at all, or putting on airs. They were... shabby. I loved the movie. 1 11 Link to comment

I do like how the film explores the changes in human blood over time and how that effects vampires. Which is something that I think gets overlooked in many vampire stories. With all the chemicals that humans ingest combined with all the pharmaceuticals we take on a daily basis, I find this an interesting line of thought. I would also like to see in season 2, what happens when our vampires chow down on a virgin who takes ADHD medication, prozac, etc. We know that they can get high from drinking blood. I would love to see Nandor on amphetamines racing around the house. Do any of these drugs have an opposite effect on vampires than they do on humans? 2 2 Link to comment
