AntAnn October 2, 2017 Share October 2, 2017 Omg, kinda embarrassing to say this (i’m old) but my SIL started wearing unmatched shoes last year and thought he was cool (he is, even with shoes that match.) Seriously, I lived through the 80’s and never knew that was a trend! 2 Link to comment

Beden October 2, 2017 Share October 2, 2017 Just two thoughts; All I could think of when I saw the above line up photo was that it looks like the original poster for the original Chorus Line production--all the wanna be/hopefuls lined up at the beginning of the audition/show. And I recall Sheri Belafonte (yes, Harry's daughter) who was a minor actress on TV back in the late 70's (?)/ 80 (?)--she had a supporting role on 'Hotel'-- who used the 2 unmatched shoe thing as an attention getting device at photo ops. I believe that she got over it after a while. 3 Link to comment

amazingracefan October 2, 2017 Share October 2, 2017 I was certain this wouldn't be a men's clothes challenge as they haven't done that for some time now. It's annoying when you saw how many of them were probably dreading doing that and then the show ducks out of the drama. Now the only variety is having a couple of plus size models. Before they had one episode dressing children, and one with models accompanied by a dog they had to design for as well, as well as sometimes having to design for the other 50% of the population. 3 Link to comment

My mom, on the other hand, was always skinny and flat-chested and could eat whatever she wanted without gaining a pound. I know she felt for me and my misery and did everything she could to support my desire to lose weight (paid for me to go to a fasting farm for a week where all we did was look at food porn in magazines LOL) etc. She advised me to start smoking cigarettes (she smoked three packs a day) so that I would have something else to "put in my mouth" ... and in those days that wasn't THAT bad a thing ... ironically, I put on a lot more weight when she was hospitalized with an inoperable brain tumor for several months, lost even more weight, and people would bring her hot fudge sundaes and cheesecake hoping she'd eat it ... I was her secret "designated eater," that would scarf down the treats when we were alone so people's feelings weren't hurt. (I did end up losing 50 pounds between the summer before I started college and my first semester freshman year -- yeah, my smoking habit worked! what a great trick! --, and frankly being thin (100 pounds) and suddenly unexpectedly attractive for the first time in my "potential dating" life had a whole 'nother set of unexpected problems!) Food issues ... gah. I have a gorgeously curvy petite daughter and celebrate every inch of her and made a point of NEVER bugging her about her weight. I figured if the time ever came that she was not happy with it, she'd do something. Hopefully her self-image is 1000 times better than mine was. FWIW, I think Lyris is gorgeous and curvaceous and proud ... she seems to be healthy, and that's what counts. I still believe Ashley Smashly or whatever her name was won her season simply because they wanted to be PC by awarding a plus-size designer but her outfits, IMHO, were hideous and would have been hideous on a Size 2 or a Size 22. I have, though, been inspired to pull out my croquis and box of a mazillion colored felt-tip pens to come up with MY plus-size-for-me collection. 10 Link to comment

Pattycake2 October 2, 2017 Share October 2, 2017 I think the judges will not be able to choose a winner/loser in the face off (ha, right) and will drag the other contestants on stage to give their opinions on who should stay and who should go (better water cooler moment). Some of them speak out about the doublemint twins collaborations and call it cheating. When they get to Margarita she gets all sanctimonious about not being raised to throw someone under the bus and the whole process freaks out Michael and he runs. 5 Link to comment

That was the dynamic I sensed. Kenya actually voiced discomfort with Amy deferring to her. Plus, Amy was shady on the Runway, what with mocking the designs along with the judges and acting all "Can you believe this shit?" Kenya looked so hurt and angry, and I can't say that I blame her. Amy definitely threw Kenya under the bus. 1 Link to comment

Why shouldn't people love themselves for who they are? Why should anyone be ashamed of how they look? Beauty is so subjective. There is this ideal that has been perpetuated that everyone needs to look a certain way. Why? We're all unique. Why can't everyone simply embrace who they are? And why can't we all be fine with people feeling proud of who they are? I actually agree with this, people should love themselves, but in the end, isn't a lot of what we see in the "body positive" movement just another version of women's worth being defined (or defining themselves) by their looks rather than their personality, character, intelligence, talent, etc.? I think people should embrace who they are, and for most of us that is not going to be "beautiful" but is most definitely valuable -- probably much more so. 7 Link to comment

carrier76 October 3, 2017 Share October 3, 2017 Re: the twins' utter surprise and shock! that the show would make them go head to head... Come ON. Those two have already been on a reality show; you cannot tell me they didn't think that production would squeeze every ounce of drama out of them. I resent the fact that they were even cast; however, I am HERE for them being forced to face off against each other. A couple of other thoughts: 1. I like their bright lipstick....if they knew how to apply it. In some of their THs you can see that the edges are all smudgy and messy. I occasionally dip into the bold lipstick, and I check a mirror periodically to make sure nothing has strayed. It's very easy to go from Bold Lip to Played In Mommy's Makeup. 2. Are these past contestants, like Mondo and Dmitri and so on, truly responsible for helping cast these jokers? If so, they need to be fired. 4 Link to comment

I find it interesting the show is now embracing models of size, especially since Heidi made a comment years ago (don't remember which season) about one of the models looking like a fat Minnie Mouse. Also, you are so right in saying the difference in size is significant. Like you, I have also lost weight (22 to an 18 (47 pounds.) I think the men in this competition have more talent and vision. Regardless of whether you like one's design aesthetic over another, I think Brandon, Kentaro and Michael each have what it takes. I would love to see Amy throw caution to the wind and design the hell out of a garment before her behind is tossed from the show. Also, why did the producers choose Cha-Cha and Aaron??? I want to see the interview process and the clothing they showed at that time. I find it difficult to believe their collections were better than other designers auditioning for the show. As for the twins... I would love to know who told them they were the best designers in the universe. Because they're not. In any universe. I rewatched Road to the Runway. Mondo, Carole Plese, and Carolina O'Neill were the on-camera judges for ChaCha. He made them laugh because he said Tweety Bear, then Tweety Chicken. Also his love of butter amused them. Carole: I think it's really fun. It's really out there. I like it. I can't explain why. Carolina: It's super whacky. I can see that there is some attention to the way it would fit a woman's body. Mondo: I think you have a really, really special relationship with your clothes. Even though it's, like, crazy, crazy, crazy across the board, there is cohesiveness. For me, it's a definite "yes". Bradon McDonald, Dmitry, and Adrienne Faurote were the on-camera judges for Aaron. They smiled/laughed when Aaron explained his penis slot. Braden really liked his Hari Nef (transgender model) image knits. He said that he loved everything. Dmitry: I think you're thinking outside the box. I wish you put a little bit more thought in your fabrications. But I think, for me, it's a "yes". Link to comment

My mother was very beautiful, bit slightly overweight. This caused her to be highly critical of my body. Through a eating disorder I got down to 75 pounds before she would say I looked good. My mother's ideal body type would be to look like Kate Moss. I have overcome these issues, but my mother can not get over how fat I am at a size 8/10. It feels like Claire is the seamstress and Shawn is the idea person. In the Disney challenge she did not understand why the heck she was on the bottom for a dress too basic for a Simplicity Sewing kit 2 Link to comment
