She was the tall pretty black girl who was a former AAIA and could not kick. I don't think she was a great dancer either, kinda clunky?

Not only is it softcore, but 50 Shades is rumored to be a fan fiction in honor of the Twilight series.  I couldn't stand either series so there's 7 books I haven't read and probably 7 to 8 times as many that I have read that I could talk about.

It's not a rumor. 50 Shades of Grey was originally an online Twilight fanfic called "Master of the Universe" posted on fanfic sites by Snowqueen's Icedragon. You can find copies of the original story before she changed the characters' names from Edward and Bella to Christian and Ana. EL James then self-published 50 Shades as an ebook which led to her getting a publishing deal for 50 Shades. 

It's a poorly written book with a problematic portrayal of manipulation and abuse painted as BDSM, but at the same time it's somehow an international bestselling book that has been translated into 52 languages and has sold over 125 million copies (that's just the first book in the series).

Saying that you've read a bestseller shouldn't be a deal breaker. Is that really any worse than one of the other girls saying that the last book she read was The Hunger Games, which is a YA book? For the record, I have no issues with adults reading YA (I read The Hunger Games too!) but going into an interview and saying, "The last book I read was written for 12 year olds," isn't more impressive or professional than saying, "I read 50 Shades."

Yees! Loved seeing the vets practice, I feel like MTT is getting better as it showcases vets too. And double loved seeing Jennifer, but I did think it was weird taht Jacie's talking part was all cut. Judy, Charlotte, and Kelly have such good judgement in still utlizing Jennifer. Oh my, feel sad for little heather, allie, and Raylee, but I can understand. Kelly and Judy wanted to make room for more dcc style girls.

Simone's chat was very heartful, I think she said it all. AND I liked her solo, it was a solid performance based on her instagram. 

I like Christina and Lauren, but don't understand the appeal of Brianna and her LOW kicks.

Seeing Jennifer in that video is another constant reminder of why they keep Jennifer around. She's such a good representative of DCC.

Like with most questions, I think your answer depends on both content and delivery. Do you give an answer with confidence and personality? Or do you hem and haw, act all awkward, etc.? I can't believe judges would ding Lacey for saying 50 Shades either, as it's hugely popular. When something stays on a best seller list for so long, it attracts other people to see why. She might have followed up her answer with "I just read the first one, the relationship seemed too much like abuse" or "hey, I accidentally borrowed it from my grandma!" or "I like to balance my literature with some trash, it helps me relax after a long day at work." 

I adore Lacey but I got the impression she just fell a bit short of total package. Hopefully she tries again with better success!

I think her body did her in... they made several comments about it, and you know how Kelli is once she doesn't like your face or your body. I personally think Lacey's body rocks!

I did too...but poor Lacey, bless her heart, thought she nailed it.  That makes me feel even worse for her :(  Is she the one whose dad was there with flowers? That was so cute of him.

As for her reading 50 Shades, I can definitely see certain types of people looking down their nose at that.  I was once told that I didn't "really read" because I was reading a Stephen King book.

Count me in as Team Lacey. I thought her body was fine, dancing looked good from what we saw, and she seemed to have a cool, down to earth personality from what we saw. I thought her Fifty Shades answer was fine, although I question her taste if she liked the books. As stated above, that's a wildly popular book series that was turned into a movie. I personally think the books are terrible (I only finished the first one because I hate not finishing a book that I've started), but it's not like it's some book just for porn stars, or something regular people only read in secret. If the judges really did have an issue with it, they need to get a damn life. These aren't 12 year old girls.

Glad you mentioned this.  I thought compared to some others she would make it in based on the dancing that was shown.  I do think she has a long angular face that trended "mature" and the hair did her no favors.  But they definitely took a relook at Christina, Maddie, and auto amy when they refined their look coming back.  So hopefully they read the posts!

You're right.  For sure on the angular face but that receding hairline that seemed to age her even more.

I am puzzled about the judges' decision because I don't find Katelyn unattractive. I think her appearance reflected the style of her LSU dance team.  I browsed some of her old college pictures on the internet.  I hope CMT does not follow girls that got cut like she did again because it doesn't sit right with me.

I wonder how many non-message board browsing, casual fans even know that Katelyn didn't make it. They didn't do an interview with her after the TCCs were announced. My sister had no idea that she didn't make. She had just assumed that they  picked her.

And even though hair color can be changed, you can't significantly change hair that dark in one appointment without frying it.

In her defense, they were able to do something with Kaime's hair didn't they? Or was it already lightened back before she was invited into TC late? The earlier seasons are fuzzy lol

I'm not sure about her, but more recently I remember Madeline.  They took her from black to something lighter, but it was still too harsh for her.  From what I recall it was several months before she got to a good place with her color.

They did.  But she also came with it significantly lighter (and slightly red) to TC.

This is going to sound weird, but maybe if she'd tanned before tryouts, her black hair would suit her better.  I realize that she's (half) black, but her skin tone is light so it's almost like a white girl with black hair.  Darker-skinned girls with black hair is acceptable.

Really horrible editing on this show. Most of us are upset Katelyn didn't get invited to training camp, but add to that the confusion of how the story was told on the show. She does well, most judges like her, gorgeous kicks, featured story and no resolution. Just a huge mystery.

 Seriously, editors- tonight should be your last night . Perhaps it's time to find a dream where your gifts could be put to better use .

also add this in ... it irks the living daylights out of me when you slice and dice someone's talking head or comments made during rehearsals, then put it back together so that now it just is annoying and doesn't make sense or fit with the scenario.  Honesty with wide eyed Emily I think you might as well hold up cue cards for what you want her say.

Agreed. I don't think Katelyn needs a makeover anywhere near as drastic as Maddie. I do think it could take a while to drastically lighten her hair, but I don't think it would be necessary. Lighten her hair a little and cut it - that's it. There are LSU pictures of her online, and I think she looks quite beautiful. No, she's never going to have the girl next door look, but Maddie and Milan are never going to be glamour girls. That's ok, IMO.

I agree. If she cut off the bottom 8-12" and got a new cut/style, that alone would counteract some of the harshness of her hair color if she didn't want to commit to completely changing the color of her hair.

But I also think that in a non-DCC context, there's nothing wrong with her hair color/style. If I saw her walking around somewhere in public, I wouldn't think OMG HER HAIR. Dark hair with pale skin can be very striking. It's just not the look that Kelli and Judy want for the DCC.

No disrespect intended, but I do not think Kaime should have made the team. She did not have the DCC look, and her kicks at Semi-Finals in Season 5 were bad. Even if she did make TC at the start in Season 4, her lack of dancing skills and bad kicks would have kept her off the team. I do remember an insider saying once she was brought back to TC in Season 4, she thought she had it made and did not really want to work for it, plus Kelli and Judy were not thrilled with her. Of course, I take the rumors with a grain of salt. Sadly, I think bringing her back to Season 4 TC was a move by CMT for ratings and drama, and Kelli and Judy had no say so in the matter. There were girls before who left TC after the show started and no other girl were brought in to replace the girl who left (Season one had at least one girl who left TC.)

Wait, SHE'S the one that didn't make it? I'm not good with names this early on and though there must have been another Katelyn y'all were talking about. I thought this one was a shoe in. And I see nothing wrong with her hair. It looks nice on her. She almost has a hint of a Hawaiian look to her.

It's funny because I kept thinking how much she looked like Cerstan, but the powers that be think Cerstan has the DCC look.  IMO, Cerstan just has a better hairstyle for her features.

It really bugs me, because we have seen girls much more in need of a makeover make training camp. Her hair would have been easily fixed. I wonder if she had reputation issues based on her time at LSU that the judges found out about from the current LSU girls on the DCC, or something similar that wasn't shown.

My heart just went out to her. 

But things def changed from 4 to 5 regarding her ability/look. Gosh I thought she was working so hard but I didn't know about al the rumors either.  It could've been a rating move for sure.  Just would've like to have seen her come in from the start and see how she could've developed without having missed first few weeks of camp. I was pulling for her.  What's meant to be is meant to be though.  ?

I think she may have been brought back in Season 5 if she did not struggle with her kicks at Semi-Finals. I did like her better than the two sisters who were brought into TC knowing they had other commitments leading to them leaving TC. To be a fly on the wall at Finals decision time to see why certain girls are or are not brought into TC.

A pretty overwhelming consensus on this forum is yes- we thought she was a shu-in.  Shoe-in?  Shew-in?  I'm having a blonde moment!  Anyway, YES!  She looks great.  We just can't imagine any other reason than the hair that she could've been cut.?
