The Lonely Js Club: Jana, Jason, James, Jackson & Johannah

Message added by Scarlett45,

Discussing the charges against Jana is fine, but do not post any information that reveals her address/contact information- even if said documents are public (i.e. a part of court proceedings.)

Discussing charges against Jana is NOT a jumping off point to speculate on other instances abuse/neglect etc towards the M-children or to elaborate on Josh's conviction and potential victims.

When Jill and Jessa got married, aside from removing two sister moms, it also split up two sister mom 'alliances', and those remaining in the TTH, Jana and Jinger, were the passive halves of their alliances. I wouldn't be surprised if either or both were struggling at the extra duties and lack of leadership, and that's without the stress of the molestation scandal added.

Excellent observation. The whole dynamic is upended. Also, how much of the restructuring of the family household was neglected in favor of weddings/pregnancies/births, which for them clearly rate far and above anything else in the world?

On the other hand, Jill and Jessa had every right to leave the house and any childcare they do for their siblings is a kindness.

They had every right to leave, and leaving is the appropriate/normal/expected thing to do.

I think it's clear that Jana is never leaving now though. Jinger I dunno, I can see Jessa trying to find her a husband, or an excuse to live with her. I doubt Jill thinks there's anything wrong with Jana's predicament, so Jana is fucked. JimChelle should rot in hell for enslaving her.

I think Jana is smarter than given credit.  She is probably looking at the whole situation and in her eager to please her parents stage (that she needs to grow out of, frankly) she realizes the only birth control acceptable is the word "no."  So it is "no" to all potential suitors right now until she turns 28 or 29.  She does the math and if she gets married at 30, there could be a dozen kids right there.  And what if she has twins?!  No, I think girlfriend is holding out.

I don't think there's going to be much left for her to choose from when she's 28, 29 or 30. There's probably slim pickings now. Priscilla married David at 25, and he was really only available at that late stage as he was postponing marriages for obvious reasons.

That's all apart of her master plan.

I do wonder about Jinger though, would she try Jana Duggar brand (patent pending) birth control? Will she break free? Or will she have a quiver?

I have the exact same problem, same letter, same 5 letters, I'm even named after a President's daughter (who is the former first lady of the State I live in) but yet nobody can spell it. Compound it with a last name that's also 5 letters long with a "Y" in the same location and, even though it's not at all unusual, nobody can spell it either.

I feel like this is a logic puzzle and I am dying to solve it (minus the LSAT flashbacks), so thank you for giving me some entertainment this afternoon.

Re: Jinger - sigh. I just hope she's okay.

I'm guessing it's Lynda Byrd Johnson Robb, as she is the daughter of Lyndon Johnson and is married to the former governor of Virginia. There could be other possibilities, but of recent president's kids, she's the only First Lady I can think of.

In the Jill video, she looked so thin, her eyes so dark, and her skin so unhealthily pale, that with her hair piled up and the long dress, she looked like the bride of Frankenstein. And all of her vitality had been sucked right out of her, Dracula style. I hope she's ok. She's a lovely girl who seemed just fine and healthy looking a few months ago.

I forgot there's a Jinger thread. I posted that picture in the Smuganna thread of a group of assorted Duggars and Sierra at ChickFilA. Jinger looked far too thin. :(

Jana is going to be a bridesmaid for one of the Bates girls. At the rate she's going collecting bridesmaid dresses from all of these fundie weddings, it won't be long before she is ready to star in a sequel to the movie 31 Dresses

I don't get that. My bridesmaid dresses were pale green linen sundresses with short sleeves from a Christian Dior pattern (Butterick, I think). Every one of my bridesmaids are still wearing them.

I hope everyone burned that rag from Jessa's wedding.

eta: Michael Bates is no fashion maven and over-the-top modest. I shudder to think about what she's going to do to her bridesmaids in the dog days of August in Tennessee.

Has this exchange between Jill and Jana in "Duggars, Dates, and Dan" (Season 7, episode 11) ever been discussed in this thread? IMO, it seems like the best evidence that Jana was interested in someone in the past, initiated some kind of relationship with that person without going through JB, and got in trouble for it.

Jill, prompting Jana: “If there’s an interest in one of us, then what do we do?
Jana, answering in a conciliatory tone: “Have him go to our dad.”
Jill: “...he can filter through, ask them the hard questions..."
Interviewer: “So, there’s no way that you would be the sort of alpha in the situation?"
Jill: “You never know...”
Jana: “Hey, I can say that does not work.”
...(later in the interview)
Jill, smirking at Jana who looks tense: “If [the guy] goes about [initiating a relationship] in the right way, then it will work out.”

I remember the discussion. The only issue I have is that we are parsing tone and body language, which I'm not sure is always reliable from our perspective. Or, maybe, it's reliable, but only if you're interpreting it from within their world. And even those of us who come from that world aren't often current generation Gothardites who spent our childhoods growing up on TV (and now, we learn, were likely sexually assaulted by our older brother.)

So I'm more hesitant than ever to say we can accurately know anything from this conversation or that one. We can just make some more or less intuitive guesses.

Doubtful. If anyone did, it would be Josh. Until the scandal broke, I always wondered if maybe that was part of what JB used as a way of convincing him not to go to college. Look, you took the SATs and your scores were ok, but not great. (I think Josh is pretty intelligent, but he was never told how to take a test, and that matters too.). College isn't necessary (look at me!) so why not get married, have some sex, and be in the REAL world?

Josh wouldn't have known not to buy it.

But post scandal- who knows what happened in that house.

Now that the show's gone I have to wonder if Marge will be too. She dating the show with a purpose, and is probably looking for a fundy loophole out of marriage. I feel bad for Josiah, but it might be better not getting married because of your third rate reality stardom.

That being said, Jim bob will probably make them go through with it.

If they're hoping for very special episodes for weddings and kids, he's going to start marrying those kiddos off left and right.

I don't know how they'd do a wedding show without Jim Bob and Michelle. No one wants to see their faces, and all the Duggar pre-wedding counseling invoices recreating Jim Bob and Michelle's wedding. America doesn't really care for the adult male Duggars, and Marge's overacting might grate, too.

They better pray for high ratings for the first one, it's the only way they'll see any more afterwards.

TLC might be looking for a new Fundy family to film. Marrying a Duggar male but focusing on her family could be one way to go. Don't think it's at all likely, but the girl does have a drive for fame, and her family has been filmed a few times....

Link to comment

I'll admit, I question with Si---but I agree on the Bates' boy, just think, it could be the Duggar-Bates wedding no one was expecting. ;p

If TLC offered Dim Bob enough money, he would go along with anything.        Hilarious, btw     :)

There is a new family in the works for TLC, the Casons, who have 17 children and an 18th on the way. They're from California and now live in Indiana. Pretty much a mainstream family, they were featured on something called Kids by the Dozen awhile back. The mom, Christie, has admitted that 3 of her kids are gay. She has one married daughter and 2 grandchildren also, I believe. Not sure when it's going to air, but Christie confirmed it on her Facebook page, her husband is Dave Cason.

I'm glad that Josiah and Marjorie can now decide what to do with their lives without the pressure of television. Who knows? Maybe while the current chaos engulfs JB and M, these two can find some space to interact normally and actually learn what each of them wants and what kind of relationship -- or non-relationship -- they actually want. That's my dream, anyway. I hate seeing them pushed into courting-with-intention-to-marry-on-tv-in-the-next-season at their age and with their potentially spunky personalities.

Every. Single. Time. I think of these two, I think of the Steely Dan song about the 1960s kids dreaming of the future. Of course, there's more sex in it than a Duggar would tolerate, but it's kind of cute.

Poor Josiah for being shipped off to ALERT to squash any independent thoughts he may have been harboring.  Come to Jersey Josiah, Because anything can happen in Jersey as the slogan goes and that anything in your case can quite easily be breaking from your parents control trip.  I'm rooting for you!  We really do have everything here, the shores, the beaches, the mountains, casinos, you name it.  Duck and run baby.

Oh, they should totally come to NYC.... let us corrupt you, dear sweet Duggars...

Or would the strip in Las Vegas be better for that?

Hey, hey, hey.  I live in Vegas.  We don't want them either.  We have the Sister Wives.

I'm a Vegas girl as well!

Ironically they may just fit in here. They did a piece on the local news last night about church attendance. Apparently it's down all around the country, except Las Vegas where attendance has gone through the roof. Go figure.

I want to see a Duggar/Brown standoff. I honestly don't know who I'd want to win in a fist fight - doofy Cody Brown or slimy Jim Bob. I think Michelle could scrap through all four of those wives. For a fashion stand off - geez, my mind may explode. Who can pile on more ill-fitting layers?

At least there hasn't been any molestation issues with the Browns, and the kids have always gone to real (public, private, church, home) school through the years.

At least the 4 wives are there by their own choice and as "douchy" as he seems to us it looks like they like him and he doesn't stand in their way much. I think he has a "Magic trick" to keep all those women interested!!

Eh, not that he's a looker himself, but what Cody gained in quantity, he lost in quality. His 'hottest' wife looks like a Hapsburg. The one wife who earns money looks like she's Tori Spelling's sister. Duggar girls don't cry every single episode either.

Link to comment

I think they cry because they don't really like each other and want Cody to themselves. They say they want the lifestyle but maybe in theory and not in practice. Something the Duggar girls won't ever have to deal with.

Are Marsiah still together?

Ending a courtship is the only control Fundie girls have. Which is sad.

I honestly question if they truly have that control, either. Like if they're questioning or flat out don't like a guy, and express that, then the girl is guided to carefully pray and seek God's will to submit and soften her heart, blah blah. Because marriage is the be all/end all, road to freedom, ultimate goal, only way to have any sort of relationship, and the girls have no prior experience, I'd expect a guy really has to be a total disgusting dud and the girl really sure of another courtship for things to end.

As far as we know, Marsiah is still a couple.

Link to comment

Haven't seen Marjorie in any of the events the Duggs have been too. So I do wonder. And isn't part of the deal with marriage that the guy has to be able to support the gal? Without the show Josiah may have little to no income.

I'm assuming they're together because the Instagram page is still up, but I do find it interesting she hasn't been seen with the family in a while. It's not like she has a job or is getting ready to go off to college.

Link to comment

At this point he's still her best shot at fame. Even without a show, she's much more likely to get her "I can't believe she's not 30" face on TV, in magazines, on the back cover of her books etc, if she's involved with him instead of a nobody or no one.

I have a feeling we've seen the last of Marjorie. She was so over the top in her enthusiasm to be part of the show that it was pretty obvious she was in it for the exposure and $$. Now that both are gone, there's no way she's going to stick around and be the wife of an unemployed, uneducated kid from a disgraced family whose sole purpose would be to produce more Duggars.
