Message added by Scarlett45,

Discussing the charges against Jana is fine, but do not post any information that reveals her address/contact information- even if said documents are public (i.e. a part of court proceedings.)

Discussing charges against Jana is NOT a jumping off point to speculate on other instances abuse/neglect etc towards the M-children or to elaborate on Josh's conviction and potential victims.

Siblings from one family marrying siblings from another family happened in my family generations ago. My grandmother talked about double first cousins. We're in the South, and back then, the social circle was small. Just the farm and church and many didn't finish high school. Sounds like the Duggars.

It feels inevitable that two siblings from one fundie family would marry two siblings from another. I'm surprised it hasn't happened before.

I've know two different women who married someone and then had their sibling marry their spouse' sibling.  None of them are fundies.

One of them had her sister as her MOH at her wedding, the groom had his brother as Best Man.  They lived in different cities and didn't know each other prior to that.  At the wedding, my friend remarked that they'd had such a great time in the run up to the wedding especially since her sister M and his brother T really hit it off and were becoming fast friends.  Two years later, they switched places for the wedding.  Both couples now married 30+ years.

I also had a couple of patients who were sisters who were married to brothers and I delivered a bunch of kids for them.  Nice people, nothing strange or fundified there, either.

In a help-wanted ad on their FB site, it says that they "do not require any kind of previous construction experience."

I guess that's the fundy way.

That's the cheapskate way.  Inexperienced workers don't get the wages that someone with strong training and extensive experience could command.  If they're able to do good training themselves and turn out qualified workers, its a win-win.

There’s nothing incestuous about it. There’s no blood relation, so I don’t find it creepy or weird at all. I had 2 female friends (sisters) that married 2 brothers in a double wedding. Talk about a party!

Nothing wrong with Stephen & Jana’s kids being double cousins with Jer & Hannah’s. I bet they’ll think it’s neat.

ETA: WOACB and Reddit both have engagement pics up.

Pickles posted the invitation.  I'm not sure how to bring it here.  (She didn't post the location part.  I guess she'll do that after the wedding is over.  That's a good idea.)

eta:  I can post the link, but I don't know how to post the picture.

So the wedding was today?

I always thought that when/if Jana got engaged, the public wouldn't know about it until after the wedding if she had her way. It looks like she almost pulled it off. Good for her. I'm not one to feel celebratory over another fundie wedding, but I'm genuinely happy that she was able to mostly avoid public attention throughout her engagement/wedding.

If we get engagement and wedding pictures in People, I take back my last paragraph.

Well she definitely will not have more than 4-5 kids if that. I’m shocked she’s gotten married. I figured she would be single for life.

I did, too.

Hopefully, they did it for love, and will have only a couple of kids.  Was he raised in that IBLP (to me) BS?

I wouldn't be surprised if Jana had no kids at all (if Stephen doesn't have a burning desire to have kids).  She's raised kids since she herself was a child, so maybe she's burnt out on parenthood.  If she does end up having kids, it'll probably be only one or two.

The wedding is starting now, so we may see some wedding photos this evening.

According to Reddit, Stephen is a Mennonite.  I didn't know that.

I agree that maybe there will be a photo or two in People.  As for video, Jana could post some wedding video on her Youtube channel.  That would definitely surpass her tiny house video in number of views.

Does this mean Jana gets her own thread? Her lengthy stay in the lonely J's has made me sad and kind of uncomfortable, like we're just carrying on the quiverfull tradition of women only having status once they are married.

We have Mennonites here. They're not as strict as the Amish. They have cars and modern conveniences. They have their own church and school. One owns a restaurant/hardware store. The women wear dresses and caps. They are traditional. It's a very rural area. They started moving there over twenty years ago.

I grew up with Mennonites in Kansas. Some are stricter than others. I'm guessing that marrying Baptists means the Wissmanns are on the less-strict end of the spectrum.

There were Mennonites where I used to live.  We had a Mennonite CNA at my hospital for a while.  They go shopping and eat out.  I'm sure there are strict gender rolls, however, and that the husband is the head of the house.  It depends on the community how strict they are.

Congratulations to Jana.   I hope she is happy -- and moves far far away from JB and Michelle so she doesn't still get stuck raising her younger siblings, and nieces and nephews.   Would not be surprised if she stops at one.

As for the marrying siblilngs,  Caroline Quiner married  one Charles Ingalls.   Then, [t]here were two other Ingalls-Quiner marriages: Henry Quiner married Polly Ingalls in 1859 and Peter Ingalls married Eliza Quiner in 1861.   (source wikitree).   They were not fundamentalists.   Just out in the Big Woods where there were not a lot of choices.

The Wissmann women have always worn pants and shorts, so they're minimally Mennonite at best. Maybe the church has been too lazy to change its name.

I have met Mennonites that more "old school" but have met several who are mainstream and integrated into modern society.   They are non-violent and use to not serve in the military and they certainly would not be christian nationalist.  Service oriented, peace an justice seeking, living simply.   Not sure how his family practices but if they are following any of that, it will be at odds with the Duggs christian nationalist tendencies.   I am surprised that JB would be ok with a non-baptist.  It made me wonder if his father was the one who contacted Jill to ask about her brother before he was ok with his daughter marrying him (this was in Jill's book).

Dress was off the shoulder.

Go, Jana!

Jessa was maid of honor, Abbie, Joy, Johannah, Jinger, and Jordyn as bridesmaids. (So Jill, Jenni, Josie, and poor Laura D. got slighted...)

500 guests and a sit down dinner! Maybe Jana chose Jessa as MOH to subtly rub her superior wedding in her face.

Congratulations to Jana!

My family is Italian on my dad’s side. My grandmother and grandfather both had 10 siblings each. My grandma and her sister married my grandfather and his brother. We were at my great and and uncles house one Christmas and my sister and cousins came up to me, I was like 18, my sister a year younger and my cousins about the same age, asking me if grandma and grandpa were brother and sister. Um, what? I have no Idea to this day, 30 years later, how they didn’t understand. I had to spell it out using me and my sister, her boyfriend and his brother to explain it out to them.

I sure hope Jill was there!!

I would be shocked if she wasn't. She attended all her other siblings' weddings, even after the rift, and she and Jana share a bond even if they're no longer close.

The article mentions a first dance-- is this the first Duggar wedding to feature dancing?!

Amazing what marrying real money will do.   He is apparently not a cheapskate like JB either.

She is a beautiful bride.  Loved her dress.

The Duggar's probably shared with the Wissman's their reception plans and they said, "Will do the food."

Interesting who Jana chose as her attendants. Makes me sad for Jill.  And none of his sisters, not even her SIL, which is his sister.

She is moving to Nebraska where they have a house.

Maybe all those recent  (but filmed a while back) vlogs were to distract us from real life.

Looking at their website, it looks to be a fairly substantial operation.  They do roofing, painting, excavation, sandblasting.  They seem to specialist in industrial sites.

It seems to be a hands-on type job; not the kind he could do remotely.  It also seems to be well-established with extensive facilities.  The website says the company is over 30 years old.

If nothing else, it seems like Jana's found herself a fundie man with a good job and steady income, unlike so many other fundie women.  Good luck to her.

I guess now that Ann's going to be available to continue homeschooling the remaining daughters, JB was ok with letting Jana fly the coop.

Didn't she want a man who works with his hands? Maybe she'll realize her dream to cosplay the Gaines.

She looks lovely and very happy. I am happy for her. Glad she was able to keep things under the radar. I always got the impression she was not as comfortable being on camera as some of her siblings.

Seems to be a very classy wedding.  The classiest Duggar wedding yet.  She's beautiful and the dress is gorgeous (and I'm sure was not JB-approved.  You go, Jana.)

I was kind of surprised that in the People article, she said she prayed and prayed for this.  I had kind of thought she was content with being unmarried, but I guess not.  Kind of makes me feel bad for her when I remember on the show how the producers always asked her if she was going to be the next one married.

Jana's Instagram has one of the People photos:

I feel kind of sad for Jill since she and Jana use to be closer. Why did she choose Jessa to be her MoH?  Jill never took her music box or burdened her with taking care of her boys.  Oh well, still happy Jana will move away with her husband. Hope Michelle can step up and take care of her youngest and all the grandkids.

The People article says she got engaged June 15 - they can’t mean this year, can they?  We know fundies don’t believe in long engagements, but two months to put together a wedding for 500 seems impossible. I’m honestly shocked the rumors were true, but I’m happy for her.

This reminds of this flashback YT video of Jana:

I'm strangely happy that she found someone that she knew she wanted to be with.. and it wasn't the first one to ask.

I am extremely happy for Jana. So much so that my cheeks hurt from smiling. All the articles I read made sure to mention that the wedding was “elegant”.  I take that to mean that the guests were served a real sit down meal and not just melting ice cream in a parking lot.  In all fairness, I thought Jinger’s wedding was also nice.
