Maybe I'm getting old and cranky, but I always thought registries were for things like serving platters and crockpots. Asking guests to buy your furniture is so incredibly tacky.

And many of them, especially the Quiverfull followers, are quite poor, with subsistence-level "self-employed" incomes and huge numbers of mouths to feed. Even a very modest wedding gift must be more than most of them can afford. I wouldn't be suprised, though, if some of them feel the need to spend lavishly on wedding gifts in order to show their "respect" for Fundie royalty like the Duggar and Bates families, even if it means taking food out of their own children's mouths.

Does anyone really believe what the Duggar's said about the extent of Josh's sexual abuse of his sisters? I'm starting to think it was a lot worse than anyone eluded to.  Or maybe Satan has a corner of my heart and makes me think mean things about Josh?

What the Duggars said on TV about it? Not at all. But I tend to think that the girls were forthcoming in the police report. What he did to the family friend/babysitter is anyone's guess.

I got thrown off the Southern Living manners and etiquette for telling people who complained about couples registering for "experiences" and the wedding costs that they were old and out of touch.  No one really needs crockpots and serving platters because they don't cook, they don't serve, and they already have three from college and living on their own until they were 34.  I've started apologizing to couples for being rude and classless and giving them money for whatever they need to spend it on.  Why buy people things they don't need?

Jill probably never saw a matching towel set before she got married.  I'm sure that having something new and just her's was special.  Reading these registry lists for fundy couples is like watching the sex scenes in Unorthodox:  awkward.

This is a silly question, but I know nothing about prison. Do they have access to the tv news, internet, newspapers, etc?  Would they actually know what’s happening with someone before they show up to begin their sentence?

Yes, they have tv, cable, movie nights, newspapers, and J-pay to receive money, but generally no unmonitored internet access.  My mom retired from corrections, and I worked at a neighboring prison. They have it better than lits of free people.

Regarding the Oct 18th date, Emily D Baker covered Duggar updates in her Tuesday video and she showed on-screen the court document listing that date.  I don't have access to any of the sites that have the court documents so we'll need one of the actual lawyers here to check it out, but it's the pre-trial scheduling order dated 6/29/21.  It lists Oct 18th as the last date to accept a plea deal and Oct 20th as the date it must be filed with the court.  It also says that if a plea deal is accepted a change of plea hearing will be held on Oct 22nd.

Oh wow. It seems as if at least one TV station in their area is keeping tabs on Josh's case, so we'll likely know this Friday then.

Probably just me and Quilt Fairy, but in case anyone else is interested, the precise wording is:

VII: CHANGE OF PLEA

In the event of a decision to enter a plea of guilty, the Court and counsel opposite must be advised in writing or by email no later than October 18, 2021. A copy of the signed plea agreement must be submitted to the Court (via email) by no later than October 20, 2021. 

BE ADVISED that any notice of pleas received after October 18, 2021, will result in an "open" plea (i.e. the defendant will be pleading guilty without the benefit of a plea agreement), unless the Court, for exceptionally good cause shown, grants an exception. Exceptions must be requested in writing at least ten (10) days prior to trial. A case will not be removed from the trial docket until a signed plea agreement has been received and a date and time have been set for the defendant to plea guilty.

Yeah, I agree.

It didn't seem very judicial to ignore her clear subtext (and even text). And how smart is it to have somebody being supposedly detained for judicial purposes in a home where the person who'll be the all-day warden really doesn't want the job? 

Of course, ignoring a lot of what women imply or even state outright is pretty common. 

(Just to clarify -- What I was commenting on was whether or not we should feel sympathy for Mrs. Reber's position as a wife-with-a-boss-instead-of-a-partner since she presumably entered a patriarchal marriage knowing that it was one. I think it's highly likely she lived in a patriarchy from birth. And it's far easier said than done to be raised in that kind of world and then suddenly say as an adult, "I'm not going to hook up with a man who always has the final word." So I'm on the side of feeling some sympathy for her.)

Just heard something funny WOACB on her live YouTube that because Smuggar did not take the plea deal he is going to get 25 years minimum up to 40 years.  I started laughing so loud that I scared my cats.

You know...I have a live and let live attitude.  People know what they know and hopefully they are open to learning what they don't know.  Unless it's algebra, to which we all should say, nope.  I've tried to educate her.  I've tried to say that I've testified in so many of these cases that I kind of know sentencing.  And its like a brick wall.  I think she's interesting and she doesn't bug me.  But this is driving me crazy.  If you don't trust random chick on the internets who claims she's a court expert, then research recent CSE cases and look at the sentences.  I've also tried to tell her not to hold her breath on the all the fines and forfeitures. Again, I hope he gets 25 years.  I hope they take everything, including his last freaking can of Who Hash.  I've told her that 25 years is what a suspect who sexually abuses, produces content and distributes it receives.  Nada.  I'm worn out. Two years ago,  I said during the raid that HSI was involved because of a taskforce and ICAC was involved.  I predicted who their defense expert would be.  At some point, trust people who do this for a living.  Hell, dox me. 

But don't get your entire group of listener's hopes up that he's going to jail for decades.

WOACB is such a moron.  I tried to listen to her a couple of times and couldn't make it past the first few minutes of her babbling.  She just  rambles and rambles and never gets to the point.  I don't know how anyone can listen to her for the 45 minutes or so she usually wastes giving out her 'exclusive insider information' that is invariably wrong anyway.

anyone else remember this story....  a woman had items stolen out of her purse at the dollar general in arkansas  in the duggar area..The police released a picture from the surveillance video  and the guy is the spitting image of volderjosh......they got many  emails  saying it was josh duggar  pic in the article https://www.inquisitr.com/3993116/josh-duggar-viewers-compare-robbery-suspect-to-reality-star/    he downloaded horrible child porn , would not be surprised if he stole from the womans purse in the dollar general store...sure looks like him

I'm not a big YouTube watcher, but I checked out Crystal Balls once. She was doing the let me adjust the camera routine, so I noped out immediately. Like if you do a weekly show, you should know where to sit and where to have your camera pointed.

Also, my interest-turned-habit of all things Duggar is for fun. Something to do. And its really all you posters that keep me coming back, as much as it is the Duggars. I can't imagine why anyone would do a weekly podcast on a family they don't even know. It just feels very weird to me. Maybe my opinion on Miss Crystal Balls and offshoot You Tubers has more do do with my age, but I'll pass on her.

But I'll give credit where credit is due. Miss Crystal Balls knows what her listeners want, and she's giving it to them. They want Josh to get a 20+ years sentence. I'm guessing after he's sentenced she'll spend the next few podcasts commiserating with her listeners over the short prison sentence.

Question about what type of prison will Josh be sent to if/when convicted. I have watched the show "60 Days  In" and some of the seasons were pretty scary for the inmates. Some of the inmates did not have their own space and had to sleep out in the communal area because of overcrowding. 

My question  Will Josh be in one of these communal  types areas all the time?  Or will he be in a traditional cell with 1 or 2 roommates and have some recreation time with others?

Retired people, writers and other artists who can't make enough money off their art so need a flexible-schedule job they can do from home to supplement their earnings, mothers of younger kids who want or need to stay at home but also need to help with the family finances-- I think Crystal Ball Whatshername may have a young school-age child with some special needs, maybe? There are a lot of people in all those categories on youTube --

Some do quite a good job, too -- although I expect only a few can actually make significant money from it.

I also tried to watch one of Crystal Ball's videos, and just could not make it more than 4 minutes.  I don't care how piping the tea she's serving is when her production values are so amateur.  I can't tell if she is deliberately dumbing down her affect in order to appeal to the masses or if she is really that inept.  I also don't care to find out.

Making a career of YouTube is fine. Making a career of being the expert gossiper of families you don't know is very odd to me.

Yeah, could be. I haven't seen enough of her to have an opinion on that!

i.e., I've watched a few minutes of a few of her pieces because the title made me curious....but I never managed more than about five minutes.....Since I read so much faster than I listen, I don't have much patience with talking stories unless I get what the title promises quickly (which you never do) or I'm fascinated.....Her first five minutes never fascinated me....

Although she did mention talking to sources somehow connected to her subjects at least one time that I listened -- And, honestly, given that a huge amount of today's gossip "journalism" -- both online and in print -- seems to source to internet forums or other media or puff pieces sent over the transom by the "reported-on" "stars" themselves and their PR agents, her mention even of talking to Amy struck me as potentially more "journalistic" than that media. Although not actually journalistic, of course. 

I get the impression that, while some youtube channels gather watchers because people find them interesting and/or credible, those may be in the minority. Just as in the rest of our culture, a lot probably get their watchers based on whether people resonate with the host's personality......And although I find Crystal B's personality kinda grating, I can see a lot of people liking it. She's got some sort of perky, pushy thing going on....

I've come across this for other celebrities as well. Not on youtube but in general, whole websites based on hatred for a well known person, not really for anything they've actually done other than be in the public eye but just because the person who created the website doesn't like them.  It's sad really.  So much energy expended and at bottom in many cases it's jealousy at the root of it all.

Wow. Glad that what I search for online and on youtube has never led me to anything like that. That's disgusting. 

Not surprised it's out there, though, I guess. Pretty sure it's just one ugly facet of human nature. How some people are and how some people always have been. And now technology gives them more access to more eyeballs to build likeminded groups. 

In the past, they probably had to just pass on the talk, lies and vitriol in neighborhood gossip circles. People of this ilk must be having a lot more fun today, unfortunately.

I read that there are only a couple federal prisons that specialize in treating pedophiles and sex offenders. One is the Federal Correctional Institution in Englewood, Colorado. That’s where Subway Jared is serving his time.

My best friend that I have known since birth because we were next to each other in the NICU lives in Colorado and she said that if Smuggar gets put into the Englewood Colorado federal prison she is going to volunteer for her church prison ministry.
