I was sure the show wouldn't let Sansa and Jon meet, so seeing her, Brienne and Pod after they opened the gates was a surprise.  Their reunion was satisfying, though they both seemed too matter-of-fact after they had caught up on all their activities.

But did Jon tell Sansa about the White Walkers?  And the zombies?  I feel like they've been forgotten, and I wouldn't have expected Jon would just forget about them.  Do they think they are safe from them because they are behind the Wall?

  1. The looks at the dinner table between Brienne, Dolorus Edd and Tormund were so funny.
  2. Cersie is hatching a plan based on information received from Tommen. What can possibly go wrong?
  3. When Dany starts rattling her names off and reminding you of who she is...run, don't walk away
  4. Lord Robyn takes the title of "monkey with a machine gun" from Jimmy McGill
  5. Good luck, Theon, you're going to need it

Margaery is Olenna's true heir, unlike the munchkin Mace or the tortured and broken Loras, the girl has fight in her, but also shrewdness...she parried with the Sparrow, delicately, but still held her own, and clearly understood that she was being used to further undermine Loras. Those scenes were so well done.

And Sansa, having survived hell twice over, In King's Landing and at Ramsay's hands, is now tempered steel. She knows what she is up against, and she knows that you cannot placate these folks, you have to destroy them.

Cerise finally remembering how to play the game, and Olenna won over despite herself. And Jaime and Kevan falling into line. The sparrow using religious fanaticism to seize political power is the most dangerous kind of enemy. He's taken the city with his bogus spirituality...in him I see a raw grab for power. Those shoes he used to sell to the rich, gave him a chance to observe how vulnerable they are to the mob. He's no different from the rest of the power players here, just using the Seven, instead of a sword.

And Brienne and Tormund..warrior love, ain't it grand.

I am re-watching the episode. Tormund was definitely stuck by cupid's arrow the moment he saw Brienne, it was love at first sight for him.

I love Tormund's unwavering loyalty to Jon. He has a good heart.

I think when Davos finds out that Melisandre burnt Shireen he will kill her.

Ha. The boy who plays Robin is now taller than Littlefinger. Just like Sansa is now taller than Jon. It really is hilarious how these child actors are spouting up and towering over their older co-stars.

I thought Emilia Clarke did not want to pose nude anymore?

That's what I wondered too...took me out of that scene for a moment, because I was thinking "How did they convince her to do this? I thought she put in her contract no more nude scenes?"

Also, I was kind of surprised that she is fireproof. I thought that was just a one-time thing with the dragon eggs.

This was the first time I have actually cried in all the seasons, but Jon and Sansa's reunion was so satisfying.

And Dany - woohoo, this is what keeps me a fan.

This! I cried like a baby when Sansa arrived & was reunited with John.

I love Dany too, this has to be one of my favourite episodes, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

I was a bit bummed when Brienne interrupted Mel and Davos right as Davos was asking about how Shireen died. Sure, she raised Jon from the dead, but I don't know that that's going to get Mel a pass from Davos for her role in what happened to Shireen.

It does not get a pass from me...I still want justice for Shireen.

Tormund and Brienne? I ship it. Loved the eye sex at the table.

Sansa seemed pretty chill about her brother having come back from the dead.

GO DANY! That was so badass. Oh and I 100% thought it was a body double, like during Lena Headey's "Shame! Shame!" walk.

- Look at that! I finally care about what Jon Snow is up to. All you had to do was insert Sansa into the story. He even admitted himself that he was a giant sulk which always made him far less interesting for me :)

- Cersei is going to get Margaery killed and I will not be happy. Stay strong Marg!

- Tormund making eyes at Brienne was hilarious.

- I hope Littlefinger and Ramsay get what's coming to them. Preferably at the hands of Sansa.

- I think Tyrion might have finally bit off more than he can chew.

- Dany's story looks like it's headed somewhere again, finally. I mean the whole coming out of fire while everyone else burned was a retread but I'll take it!

Loved Sansa and Jon reuniting. This made me soo happy.

As much as I love Tyrion, I think he should listen to those who have been enslaved a lot longer than him. They might give him more knowledge than he has now. He is making the same mistake as Dany by thinking these people behave the same as the West.

Daenerys at the end made me feel soo empowered. Such a badass Queen.

Overall, the Stark siblings and Danny made this episode worth watching.

I guess Emilia Clarke dropped the no nudity clause?  Or it was a body double.  In any case go Dany! I wasn't sure how she would escape their clutches and was glad she thought of her own way out instead of being rescued.

Doesn't mean she can't do nudity should she agree to it, she just said she would only do if it served the story. Bed scenes with Daario don't serve the story, but this scene sure as hell did.

Finally, Dany back to being awesome again. Easily her best scene since she took Astapor. Which was exactly three seasons ago. I really like that she did it without Drogon's help, which would have diminished the character growth somewhat. I was really excited about the Dothraki plot going into the season, as her season one story was by far her strongest, and it gave her the opportunity to go back to it and show what she learned. Pretty much straight out of the hero's journey and masterfully executed over the span of multiple seasons (if only Meereen wouldn't have sucked so hard).

So much great stuff in the rest of the episode, too. This was really a treasure trove of great talking scenes and did a great job of setting up the big flashy scenes that are sure to come.

Really looking forward to seeing Sansa and Jon (lovely reunion btw, and nice how Sansa acknowledged how she was a little brat) gathering support in the North. And they surely need it. 2000 Wildlings aren't all that much and they don't know about LF.

I was so happy to see that Sansa arrived before Jon left, it was a lovely reunion.  I loved that Sansa apologized for her behavior in the past and was the one who was resolute to fight for Winterfell even before they knew about Rikon.

Their reunion was lovely. I especially like that she apologized--a nice throwback to Season 1. Sansa really has come a long way.

Hell, I wish I had her figure to fit in them. She looked amazing.

Shit, Missandei could turn a straight girl gay. She is stunning.

Osha's death made me so sad. So, so, SO sick of Martin's nihilism staining everything. Sociopaths like Ramsey tend NOT to succeed longterm because they scare people. One of Ramsey's men would've offed him by now. Something to look forward to but I'm so tired of seeing his face. I feel like every scene of his is just another version of two seasons ago when it was one torture-porn sequence (with Theon) after another.

Loved Dany's turning the tables on the Khals! Don't fuck with the Unburnt.

Great verbal smack down between Mel, Davos and Brienne. Final rankings:
1. Brienne. Accusing Davos and Mel of killing Renly was awesome, bragging about killing Stannis even more so.
2. Davos. At least he got to deliver a nice burn (no pun intended) with the "I thought that was Stannis" line. But didn't get the truth about Shireen out of her and had to take a hefty blow by Brienne about the shadow baby.
3. Mel. Davos was wiping the floor with her, but got interrupted and Brienne delivered the knockout punch with a great one-two combo.

This is more of a behind the scenes thing, but there was a blind item at The Gossip Life which said that she was going to do nudity again because her movie career has stalled.   (Putting it in this thread because it was brought up here, but if the lovely mods want me to move it, just say the word.)

Yep, she has the clout now to pick and choose now, but there was never any refusal to do it ever again. That rumor started with a mis-applied quote from Oona Chaplin, which actually happened in s3, the last time we saw her tits, but she didn't do any nudity in s4 or s5 so the contract idea just became assumed as fact.

We had 3 brother/sister reunions tonight and there was definitely a theme with the strength of the sisters.

At this point I confess I don't even care if Rickon is killed. I cared about Osha and it doesn't feel right to even pretend his survival is more important.

I don't believe this at all. If she was naked for sex maybe I would have given their story a little more credit.

Emilia Clarke seemed happy to this nude scene because it made sense for story purpose and it  was a recall of her character's most standout moment from season 1. She wanted to have another moment like that for this season.

Second that. Rickon is such a non-entity with zero character traits. Osha was great, but she was dead the minute she was delivered to Ramsay. I just wished she would've managed to at least hurt him. I'm really tired of Ramsay's smug face, someone needs to tear him a new one, stat.

Agreed. And I don't know about y'all but I'm excited to see Me Before You - that doesn't look/feel like a career stalling to me.

I love how just last episode, I read people talking about how it's out with the old rulers and in with a new generation. I LOVE that this generation is full of strong women.

Exactly. People are acting like her movie career is dead. Please! She is young, white, pretty, and can be blond whenever she wants. She is good for years to come.

I am soo happy this season is all about the women's rise to power too. Bring it on!

Kind off hard to have any character traits or be an entity when the last time you are seen is when you are six years old and the story is focused on your crippled brother.  However, it was a waste of a good character and an actress that managed to change GRRM's mind.

Just realized that not only is Brienne now with her Stan's former posse, she's also hanging out with Jon, not exactly her former mistress's favorite person. Though I'd like to think Catelyn would admit that Jon is better than the bastard currently occupying Winterfell.

Did more happen in this episode? My mind seemed to stall after Sansa & Jon had their reunion.  What a beautiful scene. My mind still goes back to the first 2 episodes of the series where Jon has scenes with all his siblings except Sansa.  Was that by design?  No matter because Kit & Sophie never seemed to miss a beat.  I bought them as brother and sister who hadn't seen each other in years.

I think my heart really lies in the North because other than the Wall, I only care now about what eventually will happen at Winterfell.  I really don't care about the actions across the Narrow Sea.  I have a hard time mustering up any interest in Dany's story at all, even after what happened tonight.

I do have a bit of interest in King's Landing.  I want to see what happens to Margaery.  Cersei kind of scares me now.  The Sparrows need to fly far far away.

Oh, it would be poetic for Ramsey to meet his end slowly in the hands  of some Thenns. I did like Osha reminding the audience of them...I hope it was foreshadowing!

This episode gave me goosebumps more than once. I love this show so much. And I auve never read the books. It saddens me that the books I actually did read, the shannara books got turned into the worse possible show imaginable. Man if only HBO could have snagged up that series too.

If you think about it, it only feels like "longterm". For most of the show, Ramsey was just his father's attack dog, doing his bidding or holding Winterfell down in his stead. He was valuable in that sense, so his father's men probably left him alone. He's only recently become "Lord Bolton" with all the power it brings, and I suspect that very soon, as you suggest, one of his men will off him.

Man, I rarely tear up at any show, but I was this close to it, when Jon and Sansa reunited.  After everything that has happened on this show; especially the Starks; it was just so damn nice to see two Starks (yes, technically Jon is a Snow, but whatever!) siblings together and so damn happy, was really needed.  Sansa in particular, was awesome tonight.  I loved how she calmly, but firmly held her ground with Jon, and finally convinced him that they needed to face Ramsay and the Boltons head on, because this problem isn't going away.  I can't wait to see more of these two.

Actually, I can't wait to see more of the Night's Watch stuff in general, because almost every character in this was awesome.  Dolorious Edd being his normal self.  Brienne facing off with Davos and Melisandre, and not only reminding them of their part in Renly's death, but also casually mentioning that she was the one who killed Stannis.  And then there was Tormund obviously eyeing Brienne at the dinner table, and making me suddenly want a pairing I never knew I wanted.  I so want Tormund/Brienne to happen now!

Daenerys finally gets a big ass moment, that I can only hope will finally get her storyline moving again, because the sooner she gets to Westeros, the better.  Still, on it's own, that was a pretty badass ending for her and the episode.  Not to mention pretty much crushing all the rumors that Emilia Clarke won't do nudity anymore.  I guess she was serious when she said she'll do it as long as it has a purpose.  And what better purpose is there then burning a bunch of asshole Dothrakis, and then showing the rest that fire still can't touch her.  I did love how stunned Daario was, but Jorah was just a bit more use to it, although he still seemed a bit shaken as well.

Glad they finally brought back Margaery, and I certainly won't complain about any scene that has both Jonathan Pryce and Natalie Dormer playing off one another.  I just hope she holds strong, because Loras is clearly not up to the task.  Better then expected though, because I was waiting for it to be revealed that he died or something.

So, the High Sparrow has somehow caused an unholy alliance to form between Cersei, Jaime, Kevan, and Olenna.  Crazy!  But I worry that he actually fed Tommen false information, and the High Sparrow has another plan in store.  I have a bad feeling either Loras, Margaery, or both will not get out of this alive.

Well, if it isn't Littlefinger making his grand return, complete with his smug smirk, smug goatee, and... well, his smug everything, really.  He really knows how to work Robin.  I guess he's finally ready to enter the fray now.

The Meereen stuff was a bit dull, although I did love Grey Worm and Missandi dropping some truth bombs on Tyrion; especially after his ill-advised bit about knowing what it was like to be a slave, because of that time he was captured for a few days.  He really doesn't think before he speaks, huh? Not sure how he is going to handle this, because I don't trust the slavers, and I doubt the common folks will be down for a seven year wait to free the rest of the slaves.

Of course, not everything was good, because we still have Ramsay being an asshole.  Now, he adds Osha to the list of characters that are dropping like flies.  At least she tried to take him out, but I knew it wouldn't work.  All of this better be heading towards an epic death.  Something that makes what happened to Joffery or Viserys look like child's play.

Theon is already back home, and backing Yara to be the new leader of the Iron Isles.  Still wondering how this will all play a part in what is going on with the rest of the story.

Still enjoying this season a lot more then last year.  It might fall apart later, but I'm casually optimistic now.

Found Emilia's response to the nevernude rumors.

And EW explains that being in control in this case meant her close up nude shots were done on a soundstage in Belfast instead of in Spain with all the extras. So, that explains any awkwardness in the camera shots, the wide shots would have been a body double, but the actual boob-shots were Emilia. (Though I'm sure there will still be conspiracy theorists calling her a liar, even though it's enough to compare her boobs to the previous nude scenes in s1 and 3.08. Just as there will probably still be diehard Stan-stans insisting he's alive even though Brienne just said she killed and has no reason to lie about that to his closest friends.)

Updated.

I was really happy to see Littlefinger again, yes he's evil but I love watching his Machiavellian moves, when the bad guy plays the game so well it's interesting to watch, not like when the bad evil monsters such as Joffrey and Ramsey are torturing as many people as they possibly can just for the hell of it without any longterm strategies. IMO Littlefinger is winning at the Game of Throes ATM because he has achieved so much and has moved nearly everybody around like he's a chess master. He'll get his comeuppance and I'll be glad but I don't want it to happen too soon, there's still a lot of mileage they could get out of his story. And I think he will align himself with the Starks, the Northern Houses probably will still remember their loyalties so it would be in his best interest to do so as he's already plotting about how to get Ramsey out of Winterfell, he would know that Robbyn would not be able to rally the North behind him, not like Sansa and Jon should be able to do. He'll no doubt have another dastardly plan then how to wrest power from the Starks after they take Winterfell but he's a very patient player, he won't be in any rush and will wait til the perfect moment to make his move.

So I'm kind of curious as to where Dany will send the Dothraki Horde. Especially since all her other Dothrakis wandered off during the seasons into Off Screen Land or died.

Will she tackle the Masters or Westerosi?

I was kind of wondering during Dany's night of long knives how she was going to deal with falling debris... She may be immune to fire but she's not immune to blunt force trauma. Oh well. Rule of Cool mixed with Plot Armor probably.

I re-watched. I definitely heard a dragon roar or something like that when Daeneyrs pushed down the last oil lamp on fire. In this scene, the show is confirming that she is a Dragon in human form which strengthens her claim to the Iron Throne. I noticed the dead guards. Jorah and Daario must have killed them locking them all in the meeting hall.

The women ruling the world: Yara, Daeneyrs, Missandei, Margaery, Brienne, Sansa, Olenna. I give no recognition to Cersei whose stupidity and lust for power created the monster that is the High Sparrow in the first place.

Tormund giving Brienne the eye over their meal while Edd looks on bemused will never stop being hilarious. Weren't there originally 10,000 Wildings? What happened to them? I guess, D&D forgot this.

I like how the Night Watch brother who brought the letter and Edd ignored Jon when he claimed that he was no longer the Lord Commander.

I have been confused the whole time why The Lannisters don't just use their arm and military power to free everyone.  Yes from a PR standpoint it would look bad to pull such a move, but still its better than the current situation.

Jon Snow better go and kill that little twit Ramsay.

I was hoping Dany's dragon would show up and save her, burn them all, but this was good as well.

Finally two of the stark children together again.  I keep forgetting, despite everything that has happened to the family, only one of the children has been permanently killed, at the red wedding.  All the others still alive.  One half brother with no penis.  One half brother had to be brought back to life.  One captured and in Ramsay's custody.  One blinded and then given sight again, I think.  And one is a cripple but with supernatural powers.  Actually they have all been either killed or severely impaired in some way physically except Sansa.  And she had to endure being married to Tyrion and Ramsay.
