The Duggars: In the Media and TLC

Guest

As a reminder, the site's Politics Policy remains in effect.  Yes, Jim Bob is apparently running for office again. That does not make it an acceptable topic of conversation in here - unless for some mysterious reason, TLC brings the show back and it is discussed on there. Even then, it would be limited to how it was discussed on the show.

If you have any questions, please PM the mods, @SCARLETT45 and myself.

Look at that woman. She's beautiful, why would she ever sleep with that grease ball? It's not like he's a millionaire, or could help her with her acting career, or anything. I don't believe it.

She probably got a pretty penny out of him. But not pretty enough to keep her quiet, i guess. That is, if she did sleep with him. I can see her doing adult shows for him over skype or something, though.

Maybe he paid her.  Or maybe she recognized him as a television "star" and she's attracted to fame.  I could name some other F list celebrities who have people hanging around, clearly hoping that some of the money and fame will rub off on them.  Even people who are notorious rather than famous.

Honestly, I don't know which would be worse - to have actually slept with him or to lie about it!!  Unless she has some kind of proof, I prefer to believe she's lying and that for all of his efforts, Josh was never able to score.

I'm still surprised Josh didn't take this tactic. Several other public figures - Hunter Biden and Snooki''s husband Jionni LaValle - were also allegedly on Ashley Madison, but they've successfully used the "anyone can use any email address to sign up" excuse. Not sure if I believe them, but there's enough reasonable doubt that they will probably get away with it. So not only is Josh a cheater, he's stupid.

Alabama guy lost, but the article didn't even mention the AM scandal. Do they have credit card evidence for the other people like

they did for Duggar?

Birds of a feather, or in this case conservative christian reality tv famewhores, flock together. Sadie Robertson of Duck Dynasty, in an interview with People about her new book(!), says they should get through it and forgive Josh. With all of her barely 18 years of wisdom.

The comment section is ripping her apart and saying pretty much the same things we are.

Welp, I called webcam girls in a post days ago - no surprise to me.  If this is true, it's so weird to me that he used FaceBook as a vehicle to find these types of things - like Twitter I just had no idea that these technologies were being used that way.

On the snark vs the data hack subject, I've snarked as well, and I didn't intend to take any kind of higher ground.  Reading the desperation in that subreddit greatly changed my thoughts and reaction of giggles (I didn't have a morality horse in this) to concern for families.  I still think that anyone that used a recognizable, home (ISP based) or work email was an idiot and anyone that couldn't be bothered to have acquired a generic gift card Visa to pay for the thing was an arrogant idiot - I can't comprehend the arrogance about not getting caught attached with using a personal credit card.

Do we know if the site accepts generic Visas? We've been setting up a payment portal at work, and the people doing the back end of the work asked us if we wanted to allow it. I was chatting with the tech and he said some sites he's dealt with don't - usually it's ones where money is deducted on a regular basis.

@kalamac, you make a good point.  They may not work for subscriptions and I don't know how the site functions but if it has a year at a time option they would probably work for that, or any other one time purchase.

The whole thing is such a mess, it makes my head hurt, this data is going to be floating around forever.  And then I think about all the things we do on the internet and all the databases that could be hacked and shared and my previous to date thoughts of "if I'm not doing anything I'd be embarrassed by on the internet..." go away because anything could be hacked and your privacy is just gone as well as your identity and maybe your bank account.  What if something like PayPal got hacked?

And then there is Hunter Biden, what a terrible time for this news to come out about him.  I can't really snark on Josh when I'm disappointed in Hunter Biden and the timing for that family is so terrible as well.  I'm a hypocrite. :(  (I can't express how big my love of the Biden family is, but I admire the heck out of them generally speaking.)

I actually do agree with you chocolate, Internet privacy is a huge issue espically in countries that don't have the freedoms we do. But I can't lie I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I know it's wrong and yet....,I don't care. I see the Duggars (and like minded people) as a bigger threat to our freedoms then these hackers are. If loving this hack is wrong I don't want to be right.

All snark aside I appreciate your opinion, I really do.

Fair enough :) I'm just torn between loving the fact that we know this and disliking the way that we found out.  I don't think that loving the hack is wrong, I just don't think that it is entirely right either.  It's been said before but I really enjoy all the different perspectives :)

The hackers themselves are hypocrites. They hacked this site supposedly because AM wasn't honoring their promise to delete info upon request. So the hackers, people who snoop around and break codes and invade privacy, chose when to take a 'higher moral ground'?  That is 30 million+ people they decided to expose.

I think the hack has something to do with one of three things, an inside job by someone spurned, a competitor that found out that AM had hacked them (or another competitor) or a client spurned somehow.  I just can't fathom the hate that would be required to deliver to the internet private data on 30m people.  But AdultFriendFinder was hacked, and many others have been hacked.  I just wish there were more White Hats than Black Hats at this point.

Omg the whole wedding talk is giving me a serious case of second hand embarresment . I cringe for those who are too stupid or socially aware to cringe for themselves. Secondly I ate my foot long sub and finished my jello now where are those steamy texts and penis shots I was promised? I swear I'm not going to look at the penis pictures but I will feel better knowing others are.

Oh geez, I would need a foot long Dilaudid to look at those pics.    There could be a comic book made though, "The Purposer"

Well if he did have sex with her, of course he paid her!  What woman in her right mind would have sex with Josh for free???

I think that even cheaters/creeps deserve their legal Internet privacy, but I'd be lying if I said I felt all that sympathetic to the many garden-variety cheaters here in the US getting found out via the hack. Where those cheaters are concerned, I can and do rationally support the full prosecution of the hackers and yet from a strictly emotional perspective go, "...Meh."

What I do have both a rational and emotional issue with are the people in other countries who might face more serious repercussions that go beyond having their families leave them and the rest of the world laughing at them. I've posted this alternet article here before, which talks about how the hack could put thousands of women and lgbt lives at risk in intolerant countries. That's only a small percentage of AM's 37m total users, sure, but does that make them acceptable collateral damage? Not to me.

But in the end, it's not like I can do anything about the hack. It's happened and the cat is out of the bag. Scrubbing the Internet of the incriminating info would be like trying to put toothpaste back into a tube. So while I hope the hackers are caught (and I hope nothing happens to the people in other countries), in the meantime I'll continue feeling much schadenfreude over Josh. Silver lining and all that jazz.

Now, as for that stripper who supposedly slept with Josh... love yourself, girl.

One who wants to sell her story?  "Starf*ckers" (apologies, but that's what they're called) do exist.  And they do things like this because they get off on seeing themselves in the tabloids.  Also, how many more clicks is this Danica Dillon going to get now?  I mean, every Quiverfull head of household/priesthood holder/whatever title they use is going to have to go "investigate" the hussy who lured pure, innocent Josh Duggar astray.  For spiritual purposes.  Of course.

What a shame those three guys from the Paris train attack are tied up with Duggar on the cover of the People Magazine.  They deserve better than that.

I was just thinking exactly that.

I'd say I'd rather read a three page spread on them, but you all know I'd be lying.  I'd rather read a three page spread on them along with a poorly written, largely speculative one page article rehashing what we already know about Josh.

Josh was the subject of today's political cartoon on the op-ed page of the Houston Chronicle. There is an image of the Ashley Madison woman in the foreground, with a doughy-looking man to the side with 'Josh Duggar' inscribed on his shirt. The bubble coming out of his mouth says, "Our family is like the epitome of conservative family values."

I have to wonder if Josh would think it's a good thing that he made the op-ed page of a major daily newspaper.

I doubt he reads newspapers or understands the significance of a political cartoon.

I was just coming to post that.  Those guys deserved so much better than a small blurb while Josh/Anna are the main focus of the cover.   Sad but so predictable of People.

Re the use of a gift card Visa;according to all the info (I do not know this personally), one purchases credits.  And those credits can be used for varying activities.   There is no monthly fee or charge.     So, yes-the people using their own credit cards did not think about the ramifications and did not plan ahead.  Josh D purchased the "affair guarantee" credits.

Re Hunter Biden, the AM account may very well not be his.   There is a documented history of hacking his accounts and personal information.  Who knows?   It does seem that some of the ones who really did have accounts there have admitted the account, if not the affair.   It would seem a little crazy to deny if the account truly can be tracked back.

InTouch is reporting that Josh has entered a "faith based" rehab program for sex addiction.

I wonder if he had to bring his own power tools, or if the program provides them.

I laughed so loudly over the 2nd comment.  Entering a program is always what "celebrities" do when caught. Means nothing.  Who is paying for it--JB?  I can see him shepherding a few of the howlers and lost girls over to the rehab center, pulling up folding chairs and asking if they canw atch for an afternoon, then they will know how to be sex rehab counselors for the next Duggar that fails.

Once again, he has other family members speak for him.  Disgusting.  I would like to ask Boob and Chelle for the name of the place he is rehabbing.  Maybe tell them I have a relative that is looking for a reliable place.  LOL that would ever get answered.  They are just waiting for the next ball to fall.  I'm sure it won't be long.

Did I read somewhere that Anna and the kids are at a mountain home in AR?

What a coward running to rehab and letting his mommy and daddy make a statement on his behalf. He really is a man child. i bet Anna could use of few weeks of counseling, therapy and group sessions why not send her to rehab and let Josh face the music. I am personally angry because the new genre of counseling I have been developing called hobby lobotomy has proven to be ineffective.

Here's the Official Duggar Family statement issued today:

We are so thankful for the outpouring of love, care and prayers for our family during this most difficult situation with Josh. As parents we are so deeply grieved by our son’s decisions and actions. His wrong choices have deeply hurt his precious wife and children and have negatively affected so many others. He has also brought great insult to the values and faith we hold dear. Yesterday Josh checked himself into a long-term treatment center. For him it will be a long journey toward wholeness and recovery. We pray that in this he comes to complete repentance and sincere change. In the meantime, we will be offering our love, care and devoted support to Anna and our grandchildren as she also receives counsel and help for her own heart and future. During this time we continue to look to God—He is our rock and comfort. We ask for your continued prayers for our entire family.

Don't you just love how NOW they're deeply grieved by the insult to their values that Josh has unleashed upon their poor family? Diddling sisters was all good but OH MY GOD HE SCREWED A WHORE ON ASHLEY MADISON, WE'RE ALL RUINED. Wtf?

This is the exact thing that jumped out at me, too. This is a 27 year old, grown man letting his mommy and daddy issue statements for him. I'll bet they are also dictating all of his actions now, too.

Dear Disingenuous, Lying People Hacks,

As if you haven't known 100 percent of this for years, just like everyone else with a third of a brain. How dare you claim you're "reporting" anything, when all you're doing is finally mentioning all the shit you knew was true but that you suppressed because you were slyly functioning as JimBob Evil Jackass's PR agency? Nice work spending years enticing innocent idiots to believe that the "Duggar way" is something to emulate instead of to shun with every fiber of your being. Don't know how you can sleep at night.

Maybe someone's posted this already, but I was browsing North Love Baptist's website, and they have a livestream video of a "Friday Night RU Recovery Program" service from last week. In case you don't love yourself, have several hours to kill, and want to see what Josh is in for...

ETA: The first few minutes repeat the same slides over and over and over and over... after you've seen them once, you can skip ahead to around the 6 min mark.

For people who have been in the public eye for several years, J&M have been remarkably inept at handling public relations.  Every interview, every statement they've released does nothing but dig them deeper in a hole and make them look foolish.  If they ever hope to rehab their image, they need to hire a top notch public relations firm and follow whatever advice they're given to the letter.  Doubt that will happen, but if they want any hope at all of making any more significant money from the Duggar brand, that's what will have to happen.
