S05.E11: Why Can't We Just Get Along / S05.E12: Playing For Keeps

So glad to see Amber sitting somewhere else besides that sectional. Actually, there was a lot of back porch hanging on this episode. Did MTV spring for patio furniture for all the girls? Save on lighting? Anyhow, I don't know what is going on with Leah. On the one hand, she has previously been very happy to spend time with her mom. On the other hand, kids change and go through phases all the time. All that back and forth, and no set schedule, can be very upsetting to a little kid. Maybe she's just craving stability. On the other hand, the timing is interesting. Right as Amber mentions wanting to go for 50-50 custody, Leah begins wanting to spend less time with her. Sure, we haven't SEEN Gary say anything. But I know Gary. I've been watching this dude for 6 years. He is shady and a total mindfuck. I can see him acting all nice and supportive on camera, and then filling Leah's head with nonsense when they're not there. On the other hand, it's totally 100% believable that Amber sleeps the day away and Matt does everything for her. On the other hand, in every scene at Dad's house, Gary's laying out what "we're" going to do - then Christina does it. Same shit, different house. So would it really bother Leah all that much? 

 

Who knows? It seems obvious to me that Leah doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. She tells Gary she doesn't want to go with Amber, because mom doesn't spend time with her. She tells Amber she needs more time with Daddy because HE doesn't spend time with her. Maybe she really just wants to hang out with her baby sister and is telling them both what they want to hear. 

 

I just hope they are mature enough to genuinely listen to Leah and figure out what exactly is troubling her. I can understand Amber being hurt. It can't be easy to have your kid tell you that they don't want to see you. But she almost went too far, making Leah feel bad about it. I was glad to see she calmed down and told her it was okay and gave her a nice goodbye. 

 

 

 

 

So Bentley's back. Maci's Last Stand lasted all of 5 minutes. Just as we suspected. Moving right along....

 

I kind of feel like she invited Ryan on the Mud Run on purpose, knowing he wouldn't come - just another way to make him look like a shitty person. He doesn't need the help. I mean, does Maci really want to hang out with her ex socially? Do her friends like him? Does he like them? It was just weird. I knew he wasn't going to go. Who cares? 

 

I did care how he acted about seeing Bentley off to his first day of school. Look, I get that they come around every year and it becomes less and less of a big deal. I get that there are thousands of parents who just can't do it every year. But what's Ryan doing? Does he even work? And it was just his overall general attitude about. Never once did he say, "I wish I could be there, but I have to ____". No, it was all about how "awkward" it would be, the hassle of getting up and going all the way over there, just for that. He just has such disinterest in his kid, it's maddening. 

 

Equally maddening is Maci's attitude about Larry and Jen. Hey, I get it - Bentley's going to school full time now and has a lot going on and spending every weekend there, especially when Ryan could care less, is getting to be a bit much. Fine. Cool. Understandable. But to intentionally avoid having a conversation about it, because Jen would get upset and you just don't want to deal with that? What a selfish bitch! Those people have been there for her since day one. Hell, they even babysit her kid with another dude!!! And she can't give them the courtesy of a conversation? Fuck you, Maci. And don't try to blame it all on them, because Ryan is an ass. Yes, I'm sure there was some parenting mistakes that went on, contributing to the Ryan we all know and despise. But he's an adult now, and they have no control over what he does. We've seen them try multiple times to get him to shape up. What else can they do? They LOVE Bentley and it's really not cool to just brush them off like it's nothing. 

 

 

 

All of Farrah's scenes just make me cringe. Sophia is a horrible little brat. All the other kids - I think they're fine. They probably act up for the cameras sometimes and have little phases they go through. But Mowglita is a hot mess. It seems obvious that Farrah leaves her a lot and has no idea what to do with her when she is around. 

 

The whole thing with Simon is so fake, I don't even want to comment. I always thought he had ulterior motives for coming around, but found it really hard to hang when Farrah let her daughter climb all over him and hit him. Who wants to put up with that shit??? And she totally sent those flowers to herself. No doubt. 

 

I just hate the way she treats people. Look at how she behaved on the boat. I get being irritated that your mom set you up with some random guy, without your consent. But how is that the guy's fault??? He seemed perfectly nice and she was nothing but rude and condescending. Then that whole conversation with Debra. I know Debra is no angel, but it appears she's trying. Farrah needs help while she abandons her kid once again, for a month, so she can do what? What "work" exactly? So she's leaving Sophia and her biggest issue is Debra wasting soap??? Seriously. "That's why nannies get fired". Um really? That bitch is insane! 

 

She is just intentionally nasty and disrespectful, while her feral daughter bobs her head in the background, making sassy faces, like the best friend on a Maury Povich edition of "You Stole My Man". Good Lord. If you think a stranger off the street would do a better job, why not let them? Maybe someone would actually whip that kid into shape. 

 

 

 

So Butch is out of prison and handing out prison sock animals to all the grandkids. You just can't make this shit up. Fully don't believe he'll last his 2 year probation. Nope. 

 

I feel bad for Catelynn. I think she has every right to be upset about the strip club. Tyler agreed to a big group thing, then let his snaggle toothed/man titty friend talk him out of it. Cause hey, that dude ain't seeing NO boobs unless he pays! So yea, I mean, Catelynn JUST had a baby, she's really struggling with her weight, and here you are insisting you go look at hot chicks for the night. Ugh, I just don't get it. I know, I know, tons of men (and women) frequent strip clubs and it's not the end of the world. But I just hate the whole bachelor party ritual. I think it really paints marriage in a bad light. "Hey, your life is about to get really boring and confining, this is your very last chance to have fun!" Whatever. I realize not everyone feels this way, and that's cool. I just wish Tyler would be more sensitive to Catelynn's feelings. But there's a better chance of Butch staying clean for 2 years than that happening.

Actually, Sophia looks *exactly* like "Daddy Derek" and I can't imagine how heartbreaking it must be for Derek's family to see Farrah continuing to exploit his death seven years later, and meanwhile being barred from having a relationship with their granddaughter.

 

I'm sick of her doing that shit too. "Daddy Derek and I used to go fishing". No, what probably happened was Derek would go fishing with his friends, and you would storm up, yelling at him for never spending time with you, then you'd throw his fishing rod in the pond. Let's be real. 

 

2) Butch was getting far too graphic when he was talking about looking for a new lady friend. Slow down, man, I'm not sure the world is ready for that.

As far as Gary/Leah/Amber- I really wouldn't put it past any of these assholes to intentionally try to poison their kids against the other parent, but Leah's feelings about Amber might be legit. When Amber was single and had Leah for the night, she would buy her ice cream, take her to the park, let her stay up late, etc. I'm guessing as time has gone on, having Leah has become less and less of a novelty, Amber's priorities have shifted to Matt and drinking, and she's been making progressively less effort on entertaining Leah when Leah is there.

Maci-  I know she has a point.  We all know that Memaw, or whatever she is called, takes care of Bentley while Ryan pontificates greatness.  However, Ryan's parents are awesome and Bentley loves spending time with them.  To take Ryan's parents out of Bentley's life to punish Ryan is hurting Bentley and if Maci is really the mother she pretends she is, she should be bigger then that.  I can't help but think that this is to punish Ryan for not wanting to spend more time with HER, rather then Bentley.  Maci wants Ryan front and center in her life, but realizes that he gives two shits about it.  She wants to cut him out to punish him.  Maci knows that when she stops dropping Bentley off, Ryan's parents will force him to be nicer to her, to have access to Bentley.  Hey Ryan, was the unprotected sex worth having to deal with Maci's passive aggressiveness for the rest of your life?

 

Farrah- So, other people also think she sent the flowers to herself?  She is becoming an absolute horror.  I assume, like a lot of you, that her parents put up with her attitude because she is financially supporting them at this point.  Good lord, the way she was talking to Debra almost felt like elder abuse. Simon, obviously only came to talk to her, because the producers begged him with money and probably free perks, like food.   Yet, even his fame whore self could not be bothered to pretend to be interested in Farrah.  Sophia is unfortunate in looks and behavior, though the latter might be influencing the former for me.  I also noticed that she is bow legged, which does not help with the nightmare troll persona.  I think she thought the guy on the boat was not good enough for her (though it was not like Simon was some prize).  She probably thinks she is going to hook up with some Z list guy and be the next Heidi and Spencer or and athlete, like the Kardashians  The good news is that Farrah seems to finally have some friends...so yay?  They do not seem like fame whores, because they would not let the show film their wedding.  I wonder what type of people want Farrah at their wedding and are also friends with Simon?

 

Amber-  It just occurred to me that all the other girls, with all their faults, actually sometimes enjoy being a mother.  Maci is a decent mother and loves Bently, Farrah does like spending time with Sophia, probably because she is becoming a nasty mini me version of her mother, and Cate is naturally warm and nurturing.  However, Amber does not enjoy being a mother.  She is like the girl who wants a piece of cake only when it is on someone else's plate.  I laughed when she said she could have put together Leah better then Gary's lady friend.  I remember with Amber, Leah always looked dirty and neglected (because she was).  Speaking of Leah, she is such a bright and pretty child.  I never thought that Gary and Amber could produce such a lovely little girl, but I think most of the credit goes to Gary's other baby mama and his mother.  I do not think she is playing both sides, what she said about Amber is spot on.  I think she is a little girl who enjoys spending time with her stepmother and grandmother more than her mother, but she feels guilty about it.  She knows her mother is unstable, but this is a lot of worry to put on a small child.  Amber is really the one who should have never became a mother.

 

Cate-Butch is always amusing.  However, Tyler and his sister's face say it all.  They are the children of an addict and they know he will disappoint them again.  They are even too afraid to hope.

I think Tyler feels a little smothered by Cate sometimes.  He wants a Cate free night and the strippers are just the means, not the end.  I am not into strippers at all, but he probably thinks people are less likely to cheat with strippers, because they are being paid to be into you, then with randoms that people meet at the bar (who might actually be into you).

 

I also think that Tyler know that physically he has more options, right now.  A lot of girls think he is a nice looking guy (I am not one of them) and his d-list celebrity probably gives him a lot of options in their small town.  Cate is not confident in her appearance right now and it shows in her demeanor  If Cate had a young ready to mingle confident vibe about her, then he might be singing a different tune.

I wonder if the whole time they were in Disneyworld, Gary and Kristina were trashing Amber, and it kind of got into Leah's head.  then she kind of realized what happened & trashed her dad to her mom.  I think I feel bad for her, if this is how she is learning to communicate with her parents.

There is no way anyone, let alone your mother, would sit there blubbering while your grown ass beyotch of a daughter is berating you while asking you to take care of her child for 30 days. I can't believe I missed a full episode (the 2nd one)...I didn't look past the 10:00 hour.  I will have to catch it on a rerun this weekend or online.  It sounds interesting to say the least.  Anyway, I just wanted to chime in on Sophia.  I try to stand up for all of these kids at one point or another for what they have been through and how most of them have done a pretty good job of handling it.

 

Sophia is really just another story...she is a product of her environment and also didn't have much help in the genetics department.  She is one of the kids that make people think kids are awful--she is very awkward to be around and doesn't remotely have a cute personality.  I think her looks are what they are, and I get that, but it is the behavior and how ugly her behavior comes across.  Most of it can't be helped much once you see who is raising her.  It is really sad.  You wonder what her personality might be like if raised by someone kinder and more normal.  

 

The rest of the kids are great... Leah and Bentley are really good kids... they have fun personalities and have done well despite what they have had to deal with.

 

As for the rest of the show, after seeing the first episode, all I can think is that none of these storylines ever really change.  Each season it is basically the same issues over and over again.  Just a different day.

WTF happened to Debra and Michael anyhow that they are now co-dependent on their daughter for support? Doesn't Debra have a doctorate? They used to own real estate wherever it was they were living during 16 & Pregnant. Poor Sophia is unfortunate looking but may still grow up to be a babe. Catelyn needs to get it together or her insecurities are going to propel Tyler right out of the door when the MTV cameras dim for good. I know he capitulated at first to her desire for a joint bachelor party, but they've been tied at the hip since childhood and I don't blame him for wanting these few hours out with the boys on his last night of "freedom." This show is boring as hell and yet I can't stop watching.  How does Butch get out of prison with a tan?  How does skanky April find yet another man willing to marry her?  How can plastic-surgery-poster-girl Debra be out in the sun for hours at a time?  Why doesn't Matt ever clean his glasses?  Has anyone explained to Farrah that Sophia needs a palate expander for her crowded jacked-up mouth?  There are a million little mysteries to this show.

 

I was horrified to see Macy and Ryan drop their baby off at daycare.  Do they have jobs? With the MTV income, one of them could easy take a year or two off to raise their own daughter until she's old enough to speak about what goes on at day care.

Farrah: Bitch. She should be damn grateful that her family is helping her raise Sophia. She could be doing it completely alone. Sophia is a brat. I liked the show when Farrah wasn’t on, and have no idea why MTV chose to bring her back. Also, she didn't want Sophia to see nudity at the beach, but she did  porn? Oook.

Maci: Jayde is precious! Maci needs to stop showing Bentley that Ryan is an asshole. He’ll figure that out on his own. If he hasn’t already.  I’m so glad that Bentley is back on the show, because I love how Maci says his name. Ryan is not going to change. Also, why did she get so angry that Ryan’s parents want a say in how Bentley is raised? They’re basically the ones raising him, when he’s supposed to be with Ryan.

I probably wouldn't. Plus, it probably takes Farrah several hours to spackle her face and set her hair like that, so she likely didn't have time. 

 

What I want to know is - does she own any pants??? I get it, her body is hot and she wants to show it off. But not every occasion calls for a dress. The zoo, fishing, going out on a boat. I was uncomfortable just looking at her!

Actually in the past two years many insurance providers have stopped covering weight loss surgery and are now deeming it more of a cosmetic procedure vs. medically necessary (which is a complete shame).  Gary just looks so much bigger with each passing season.  Not to be mean but he looks like he's gonna explode one of these days.  I wish Gary would look into the possibility of weight loss surgery.  There are several options and some are less invasive than others.

I am certain over the years, every doctor Gary has seen has told him his weight was going to kill him. Those same docs give him his prescriptions for his high blood pressure and his type 2 diabetes. I am sure he has been weighed numerous times as well, and yet, he has allowed himself...he has allowed himself to get fatter and fatter. He bought the food. He makes the food. He buys his bigger clothes. Why on Earth would someone think that weight loss surgery would work for him? Secondly, having worked in healthcare 20 years, I see the complications that go with this surgery. If not immediately, in the future. I adamantly disagree with this surgery.

I remember after their original 16 and P episode that Gary auditioned to be on the Biggest Loser.  That was probably the last proactive thing he did to control his weight.  It is sad because I remember him being a big, but fairly active LPN on his first year of Teen Mom.  Now, I think he gets winded standing up.

I was kind of shocked and surprised (in a good way) that Butch was asking how he should approach Brandon, Teresa, and Carly and that he didn't seem to think Tyler's whole "I didn't tell them you were coming" thing was such a great idea. This shows me that Butch has made leaps and bounds in coming to terms with the adoption and seems to have more respect for B&T as Carly's parents at times than Tyler has had.

Amber laying around in bed/on the couch and never leaving her house sounds like classic depression to me. I know we've seen this before.....Amber lays around, never leaves, is depressed, and self-medicates with pills, etc and boom! We're back to square one with Amber. I struggle with anxiety and depression and yes, I've spent plenty of time in my house literally afraid to go out and just the idea of leaving the house was emotionally exhausting. But I have a child now (he's only one) and I cannot keep him prisoner to my depression and anxiety as he grows up. You'd be surprised how much just leaving and going out once a day can help, Amber. As can going to talk therapy, etc or going for a walk. Or taking a group exercise class where everyone is sweating and working out and has no time to "judge" you. And did I hear right that Amber is bipolar but doesn't take the meds her doctors prescribed?

And yeah, I doubt Gary did a lot at Disney. I've been to Disney with family friends who were very obese and it was extremely difficult for them (and they were smaller than Gary). They also had a difficult time fitting into the seats on rides, let alone fitting in seats designed for two, so they really couldn't ride "with" their kid. My guess is that's why Gary didn't do a lot with Leah. I hope they brought Kristina's other daughter to Disney too. That had to be a rough trip for Kristina - caring for an infant in Disney (which sounds awful on its own) while taking the girls all around the park.

Farrah looks good in yellow. That's all I've got....everything else about her is horrible. I think Sophia looks like Derek and will grow into her looks. Her attitude, though, is another thing all together.

Maci...YAWN. I believe Taylor does have job outside of TM but I don't know about Maci so I don't why Jayde goes to daycare. I get stabby whenever I see that superfluous "Y" in her name. Way to trash up a perfectly normal, pretty name. Also...inviting Ryan to a mud run....Maci knows Ryan, right? The dude struggles to stay awake while talking and is incredibly low energy. Why does she think he'd come to an event where he'd have to exert any energy? (But yeah, he should have just told her he was going back to bed....cause we all know that's what he did). At least he's nice to look at IMO....which is more than I can say for the other guys on the show. That card that Farrah wrote to herself for those flowers was hilarious.  I felt like the end of card should say "said Simon......never."   I would love to see Sofia interact with other kids.  Damn these folks need jobs...especially Amber.  Does she do anything with Leah?  I have one daughter who is 8 and every freaking weekend there is some playdate, birthday party, ice skating, gymnastics, swim lessons, chuck e. cheese excursion to go on.  How are they able to just sit around cause maybe I'm doing it wrong.  The way Farrah talks to her mom is unreal.  Poor Catelynn still gnawing those nubs.  Disney must have been hell for Gary.  The sheer amount of walking alone...  Unless he was in one of those motorized carts.  We went this past summer and I swear the walk from the shuttle to the entrance gate made me want to lay down and take a nap so I know he must have been hurting.

Wow, I didn't see the episode and it's not on my on demand yet, did she really make the ugly girl comment again!? Or was is just reshown? She caught a lot of flack for that the first time, so if she said it again I have to believe she is purposely being crazy... And running out of material. I just saw on Twitter, she retweeted somethings that somone was calling out MTV that they didn't want Farrah for doing porn, but let Tyler talk about strippers...I'm not even sure how I saw it, I didn't realize I even follow Farrah. But I really don't understand how those are even close to the same. Tbh I don't necessarily think the porn was a reason to not have Farrah back, she's horrible enough without that fact. Let's just say if I ever ran into her in a professional sense, like if I was a waitress and she came in my resturaunt, or if I was a nurse and she was my patient... I would just quit... I noticed as they were pulling away there was something on the back of their car that looked like one of those wheelchair lifts or something. It looked like one that is on busses. I am not sure if that's what it was but I would not put it past Gary to have used a wheelchair or motorized cart around Disney.

Ryan definitely has premature grey/salt and pepper/Anderson Cooper/George Clooney thing going on. My husband has dark hair like Ryan and he started going grey in his late teens. I think it's hot. I think Ryan is fine but damn....I can't even imagine how he had the energy to make a baby with Maci at all. I worry about Leah, you know Amber is going to give her hell for saying anything about her mothering skills when the cameras are off. I also think Matt is creepy as hell and hope that he does't get too much alone time with her but since Amber is sleeping all day he likely does, hopefully that is not the reason she never wants to go there.

 

Butch and his prison sock toys and flowing mane steal the show. I wish they would do a butch spin off. I would be glued! I was wondering though if going to bars/strip clubs isn't a parole violation. Didn't he say he can't be around drugs OR alcohol as one of the terms of his probation?

Judging Farrah hard for what she wore to the zoo. Does she even realise how big that place is? And then calling the goat's teats, balls. Ugh. 

 

Farrah is a terrible person, but because she has money, a tiny bit of fame (good or bad), and she's relatively attractive, at least to a certain set of people, she will never have to face that fact. 

 

Poor Leah. I feel like Kristina is the only good adult in her life. Matt looks like he lost weight though, so good for him not going the way of Gary. If he didn't give me the skeeves, I'd almost say that he and Kristina should just adopt Leah (plus the new stuff about the other kids he has and such).  I almost still think he's better than Amber though. But I do like that Leah seems to be open with her thoughts.

Finally saw the first two episodes.

 

Maci:  I don't think she had devious ulterior motives for inviting Ryan to the mud run, or was setting him up to fail.  When she asked him, Ryan seemed okay about going.  It's not like he had no idea what a mud run was or something.  He could have said no.  He's a big boy.  I see no reason to somehow blame Maci for him not showing up.  Does he still live at home with his parents?  Honestly... Maci has the patience of a saint.  Can you imagine having to coparent with Ryan?  I can't.  He's a large child.

 

Amber:  Little Leah knows that her parents are lazy slobs already.  Bless her heart.  She's a kid, she wants to play and be outside, and her sloth bio parents just want to sit around and watch tv.  I want Christina to get full custody and take her away.

 

Catelynn:  I didn't really like the top of her wedding dress.  Tyler is a moron if he thinks not telling Brandon and Teresa that his ex-con father will be meeting Carly is a good idea.  Their open adoption is based on trust.  You have to tell them about these things.  Is Butch back in prison yet? 

 

Farrah:  well, I made a post in her thread about her so I won't repeat it here.  But I think she is the only teen mom (except Jennelle) who is headed down a dark path.  She is completely a lost cause.  She talks to people like they're dogs.  When Sophia is older and doesn't want to listen to Farrah, watch out.  I fully expect it to get physical between those two, because Sophia is already slapping her and not really being reprimanded.  Farrah's life is just sad and very pathetic to me.  Back in 16 & Pregnant I thought she was the most capable of the teen moms and then it took a huge left turn and it's all shit now.  She's financially secure but look what she has to do to get it.  I expect that after the MTV fame dies out she'll end up escorting or something.  I don't even think she could snag a rich old guy because who the hell wants to spend their remaining years with that attitude?  She's horrible.  No one normal will want her and I shudder to think about the shady characters who are invariably in her future.  *shakes head*  It's just pitiful.
