I'm pretty sure Raven is an anomaly; growing up in a bubble without ever attending a school (clearly, her "on set" education was lacking in many areas) while supporting her family from the age of three and making enough money that she was rarely challenged on anything. Those aren't factors for the average millennial woman. On the positive side of that, I do like Raven's confidence; but her complete and total ignorance on anything outside of Hollywood and social media is breath taking and outshines almost everything else. I've heard/read the same things about what this organization does to people who speak out. On 20/20 they not only read a hand delivered statement from Scientology but didn't they show some video of protesters outside ABC too? And whatever the reason, I'm glad Sherri sat this one out. I FF through the entire show except this interview but it appeared Sherri had her dumbass grin going for the duration of the Gloria Steinem interview. While I was at it, I FF through Monday's show to see Babs and noticed that Whoopi appeared to have on different pants than the ones she started the show in for the Bab's interview. No. She did the same thing on the 20/20 interview. She started talking about him saying Katie Holmes wrote a report complaining about her behavior at the Tom/Katie wedding (apparently being a scientologist is like being in 7th grade and they report each to the church), and Leah said Tom should have been reported for the couch jumping, then she sort of back tracked and said it wasn't about Tom. It was also mentioned in the segment that Tom is one of the most powerful Scientologist, but, you get the power from paying the church 100s of thousands dollars. 3 Link to comment

Because they hate this show as much as most of us do, and for the same reasons - the panelists are often stupid, unfunny, ill-prepared, and generally just suck at their jobs. But the people in the media can't really just come out and say that. They have to have a "legitimate" cause to complain. So when one of the panelists says something "offensive" about legitimate topic, they leap all over it. In the case of Hasselbeck, of course, it is just her endless need to vent her bitterness and spite. 3 Link to comment

Nicolle Wallace would've thought so! That's why I'm glad she was shown the door. I don't think I could have dealt with her and Whoopi laughing about how all young people are as stupid as Raven, or that their generation is somehow superior, for another year. I'm actually three years younger than Raven. And while I have my flaws--like bitchin' about The View, for instance--I'm grateful that I have almost nothing in common with her. Since this show rarely edits for quality (see Whoopi's, "I HAVE TO PEE" exit from the stage last Friday) I'm wondering if it was a schedule situation or they just messed it up so bad they had to do it over?? Isn't it weird Joy would be there for Leah but not Gloria? Maybe they recorded so they could cut anything that might get them or Leah into legal trouble. I wouldn't be surprised if it was recorded yesterday, with everyone picking out their outfits for the next day, just so they could the people behind-the-scenes could go over it before it aired. I know there is a very thin line between any religion and a cult, but I don't feel wrong in saying that the Church of Scientology is definitely the latter. All that secrecy--not just to the outside world, but even to members of the Church--and talk about "power" is very disturbing. 8 Link to comment

backformore November 4, 2015 Share November 4, 2015 (edited) Yesterday's show - I had assumed that when Jimmy Kimmel had parents "trick" kids into thinking the parents ate their candy, they then revealed that they had not, and gave the kids the candy back. If not, then it really is a cruel joke. But Sherri is another story. She takes Jeffrey to how many apartments, to teach him to "work for what you want" , then she eats his candy and tosses the rest, or donates it or something. I get not wanting your kids to have massive amounts of candy. When my kids were little, I took them out on Halloween, we went around our block, so we were basically going to the neighbor's houses, and then we went home, and passed out candy to the neighbor's kids who came over. Nothing excessive, but I let them eat the candy, save a little for the next few days, and share with their parents. (I also had a kid with an allergy, so I had to exchange his candy for the nut-free stuff I bought) But the lesson, according to Sherri, is if you really want something, you work hard for it, and then your Mom will take it away? Raven's view of trick or treating is that she went to look at the glamorous houses that would one day be hers? For a moment I was sad for her, that her mom tried to instill that in her. Added to her comments a day or two ago, about "having to work for a living since I was three years old!" brought a little understanding of how she became the fucked-up person she is. Even when she talked a day or two ago, about how little kids NEED to know how to use IPads and cell phones so they can fit in, is a pretty ignorant point of view Yes, the average 3 year old can learn to play candy crush. So what? 3 year olds need to learn social skills on a face-to-face basis, much more than they need to learn how to "swipe" and "click" on a phone or Ipad. Tunia November 4, 2015 Share November 4, 2015 They've really been juggling their "live" schedule this week haven't they? Yesterday we had the pre-taped interview with Leah Remini, with Joy there but not on the show itself later. Today was supposed to be Susie Essman talking about Joy's new show, but with Joy out "sick", that didn't happen. Instead we get the Susan Williams interview which was scheduled for Friday on tape, again with Joy. When did they tape this? Joy was off today, but Paula was wearing the same dress she had on today. If they taped it yesterday originally for showing on Friday, how did Paula wear that dress, not knowing it would be shown today? She would have been wearing the dress planned for Friday's show. AND, besides, what's with all the taping/pre-taping? It's supposed to be a live show, damn it! 7 Link to comment

backformore November 4, 2015 Share November 4, 2015 today's show in my area was pre-empted for coverage of a press conference about an Illinois police investigator who had died of a gunshot after making a radio call that he was being chased by three men. After an elaborate manhunt and investigation, it was found that he had staged his suicide to look like he died on the job. the whole thing was to cover up his crimes of embezzlement. The most interesting part of the story to me, is that the original story, police man killed by Black suspects, was used by Fox News as an example of the "War on Cops" and then blamed Obama for not coming out and saying that attacks on the police will not be tolerated. Oops! 6 Link to comment
ChicagoCita November 4, 2015 Share November 4, 2015 Preemption here too. Huge local news in the Chicago area. To see this man lionized as a hero at the time of his death, then see the county coroner scolded a few weeks later for saying he couldn't rule out a suicide, to today's news that the man was a criminal and created an elaborately staged suicide ... it leaves me literally queasy. I'm sure there are going to be repercussions for months, but right now all I can think of is his family, first to go through what they thought was a job-related murder of their loved one, and now finding out he was an embezzler and a suicide has to be emotionally devastating, not to mention all the horrible financial aspects of it. (My cousin's husband killed himself, and it really is true that insurance companies restrict their payouts in those circumstances. She had to go to court to get his social security benefits awarded to her, lost her house, etc.) Not View-related, but I'll be interested to see if they bring it up. At this point, the story is on the national news sites. No winners here, just endless sadness. 3 Link to comment

Hot Topics was/were a mess and the Susan Williams interview wasn't much better. Everything was very disjointed and patched together. I think they threw in the Williams interview at the last minute b/c Joy was out and the Susie Essman segment didn't happen. I wonder if the SE segment will air on Friday or if they'll just drop it. I'd imagine the point of SE being on today was to preview the premiere of Joy's new show tonight...if she's there on Friday, it's an afterthought. Edited November 4, 2015 by Tunia 2 Link to comment

U don't care if my president plays candy crush..I want a president who can be moderate and work with both sides. I agree with this, not only with the issue about Candy Crush, but with a lot of what she says. She grew up with stardom and privileged, so she can't really connect with some of the topics that are going on because she never really thought of them before. When they were talking about the police officer throwing the kid around, she was very much pro-cop, which seems weird since she's black and most would assume that she'd understand the plight of black people. But she doesn't, because even though she is a minority there's still a bit of privileged there. With Candy Crush....I've never played it, because the idea of paying money for lives seems stupid. But I've played the mock offs and they were fun. I don't really care of the president or prime minister plays it though. Just to add, I thought it was funny that Sherri was the only one who understood Paula's point about the debate not asking proper questions. Whoopi went on a rant about candidates not answering hard questions, which wasn't the point. Michelle just talked about candidates dropping out, which is true. Raven...just talked about Candy Crush. GHScorpiosRule November 5, 2015 Share November 5, 2015 I'm really tired. Suffering from the worst case of insomnia ever. I can't remember the last day in the past three weeks where I've gotten a decent night's sleep. Anyhoo because of that, I'm too tired to quote posts, but will say this: Raven being a child star and turning into this idiot doesn't pass muster with me. Because Keshia Knight Pulliam was also a child star, and she's turned out to be an intelligent person. Hell, she even responded to Raven't moronic statement about how if you have a "ethnic" sounding name and used "Watermelonia" or whatever as an example, Keshia came back with a thoughtful response and made me wish the The Asshats in charge would have gotten her as a panelist instead of Raven. The news about Robin Williams suffering from depression isn't new; it came out almost immediately after his suicide. The Lewy diagnosis is new, I think, but not him suffering from depression or that he'd gotten the news he had Parkinson's. As for Candy Crush? Please. It's a FREE game. As someone else posted above, all one as to do is wait nine minutes to play again after using up their lives. And I play it. I also play Criminal Case. Sue me. But Raven's comment about how the leader of the United States should know how to play it? She just gets nuttier and nuttier. I saw the documentary that HBO did on Scientology, and it scared the bejesus out of me. So I have nothing but respect for those that got out and don't blame them if they can't or won't talk about certain things or Tom Cruise. That fucking Cult doesn't fuck around. 10 Link to comment
