The Annual Academy Awards - General Discussion

An hour later and...NPH needs to stick with his Tony and Emmy wheelhouses.  This is pretty damn painful and I like the guy.

I almost want Seth McFarland to show up to save him. Yes I wrote that and I hate myself for it.  At least "Show Off Your Boobs" created some buzz.  So far I am not down with the NPH.

I think Michael Keaton is chewing nicotine gum because he can't go outside for a smoke.

I wish he wouldn't chomp it. It's so unattractive.

Has ABC always promoted itself so aggressively? Every commercial break pimps at least one ABC show.

The How to Train Your Dragon 2 joke was totally fine. The crowd is just NOT having any of it. You are actors, people. ACT like you are enjoying this.

My god yes.  I don't think it's that NPH's jokes are THAT much better when he hosts the Tonys. I just think the audience members have a sense of humor, fun, and self-deprecation.  The Oscars audience members are just... blah.  WHY SO SERIOUS???!!

If this is how they are gonna be, just screw it and go back to giving them out at a luncheon in the Beverly Hilton hotel.

Okay, lady with the puffballs shawl is giving me LIFE!

And the orchestra tried to play her off as she talks of the suicide of her son.  So much orchestra awkwardness tonight!

Lady costumes for a bunch of boring ass movies I've never seen.

And that means she shouldn't win?

Worst Oscars in a while.

I know that, because I'm feeling some nostalgia for "WE SAW YOUR BOOBS!"

YMMV

Annoying song from a children's movie. I'm out.

The LEGO Movie is not just a children's movie.  So you stopped watching because a song which you knew was nominated was performed, just like every other nominated song is?

I feel as if Neil isn't having a total train wreck of a night to be entertaining in that "good god I just can't look away" sort of thing, but he's also just not good or funny so it's a very middle of the road performance that's just very very "meh" for me.

Ffs show you give these people awards for a reason, that's the whole goddamn purpose of your stupid awful show and you barely give them a whole 30 minutes total over the course of four bloody hours to actually accept them, the rest is filler, really shitty filler.

I'll never forget how they played off DDL when he won for best Actor a few years go. I was livid, still am.

Every time anyone wins or is mentioned as a nominee, I keep thinking about the $160,000 gift bags with two free vacations. Do they all go to the same place at the same time for a reunion?

They probably mostly throw it out since they make more money than God yet act like they are all about the less fortunate.

For the love of everything Clark Gable and holy, muzzle the orchestra!!!!

As much as the actors and actresses are probably nice and amusing - I'd still rather hang with the documentary and editors and efx nominees.  I bet their tables are just one big geekfest of fun and conversation.

Okay they stopped playing at the mention of the kid's suicide.  Honestly, the winners needs more than 30 seconds, especially if it is a group win.

Also, tacky NPH to talk about the dress right after she dedicated the win to her dead kid.

He looked like he immediately regretted it. It got the biggest laugh in the crowd so far though.

Yeah, it would have taken a lot more balls to keep playing at that point -- and I didn't mean that pun.

Maureen O'Hara and Hayao Miyazaki finally get some recognition.

Sad as I know she has been in many, many films. But I'll always associate Maureen O'Hara with the original Parent Trap. I loved it as a kid and liked that she didn't play some meek '50s/'60s housewife type. I thought that was something considering the era in which the movie was made.
