Dallas for the win was probably the easiest pick of the year.  In other words, there's nothing easy "picking Dallas" however this year has been rather weird in terms of winner and losers.  Last year was what it was, but with several people missing time due to testing positive, someone that's slated to win in January will not win.  I hope the NFL does what it takes to make sure that it doesn't occur.  They did well last season when things were worse (though there were no fans in several places).

As for New Orleans, I wonder what Sean Payton's fate will be at season's end.  On one hand, it would be messed up if he got kicked out (with all the injuries).  On the other hand, if Mrs. Benson decided to boot him it would be fair enough due to the lack of postseason success with Drew as the face of the organization

I hope Payton does survive the year, because Taysom Hill may have torn a tendon when he whapped into a Cowboy arm last night.  Payton didn’t injure all those players himself, how are you supposed to win with that?

Thanks for nothing, New Orleans.

Despite the fact that I had a rooting interest in that game, (and who doesn't have a rooting interest in a Dallas game TBH), I watched all of about 60 seconds.

New Orleans had absolutely no chance of being competitive. That was barely a second string lineup.

Well I'm at Jack Doyle's pub on 35th Street in New York and they just turned all the TVs over to the Vikings game. I got here early because I forgot that I wasn't in Central Time. Jerseys represented in the pub are Moss, Thielen, Jefferson and Cook.

Trust the Lions to find MULTIPLE ways to screw up a perfect season.   Stupid Lions.

The worst part about them winning a game is people will think that meathead Dan Campbell just needed time for this team to get used to his plan.   So he will stick around.   YUCK.

Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Tony Romo.  Three things that make me want to abandon the NFL for cricket.

And because I will hold a grudge against the Ravens for the rest of my natural-born life, I am forced to root for Pittsburgh.  Gross.  (The option exists to not watch the game, you say?  Nay.)

For once I am happy to see a 49ers game. Dude on the Niners was taken off by ambulance after an apparent head/neck injury. Looked really bad.

I’m married to a Squeeler fan, just think how it is in my house during FB season.  At least this year both our teams suck.

And yes, Browns fans are contractually required to root against the Cravens from birth.

Congrats to the Lions.  Aft all the heartbreak this season, and aft this terrible week, they deserved that win (even if they did almost give it away).  I think all NFL fans, except maybe the Vikings, were excited for them.

“A potential quarterback controversy in Philly…?”

What?  No.  Gardner Minshew is a stopgap.  If they don’t build around Hurts they are foolish.

The radio guy for WTF said “jackpot! when they scored a TD which, while still a lazy way to discuss touchdowns for Vegas (Brent Musburger), still made me laugh when it was turned around on the Raiders.

Well, I'm with you on 2 out of 3 of those. Native Clevlander Mr. 24k, and this Steelers fan appreciate your (albeit temporary) support! Long about 5 minutes into the first quarter, I had already lost count how many times I yelled "shut up, Tony Romo!"

So you can watch them set up an inexplicable defense where the safeties are standing five yards deep in the end zone and you just let the WR run in front of you?

He did it in that MNF game a few weeks back, it would have been weirder for him not to go for it.

It always feels like it's more the coach is trying to prove he isn't a wussy baby than an intelligent play call.  You've got one of the best QBs in the league and the absolute best kicker in the league and you think you have a better chance to win on a single play than you do in OT.

Not to pile on the Tony Romo hate, but he used the former name of the WTF yesterday and didn't correct himself.  Oh, who am I kidding, I love to pile on the Tony Romo hate.  But seriously, it's been two years now.  Are they never going to pick a name?

They're supposed to pick a name after this season. Personally, I like Washington Football Team; mostly because I always think the acronym is saying "WTF" and I like when the TV graphics say something like " Eagles @ Football Team".

If a shithead does something dumb that he is suspended for, the suspension should not start until the team is in the playoffs, or until they are mathematically eliminated (and then it goes to the next season if there aren’t enough regular season games left).  It’s so annoying that AB is sitting around resting and then will be recharged for the postseason.

(I know the PA would never ever ever go for this, but a girl can dream)

I'm a Ravens fan (despite the vitriol of hatred spewed here) and I have no problem with the call.  Harbaugh takes chances and, frankly, that might have been the best chance they had.  Yes, Tucker would have tied the game, but OT was tricky.  Since the halftime, the Steelers had been moving the ball pretty easily and the Ravens offense struggled on all but the last drive.  When Harbaugh was asked about it, he said, "We were running out of CBs".  Marlon Humphrey went down on the Steelers scoring drive and four other corners were already out.

Looks like all the injuries the Ravens have are really starting to hurt them.  I've said it before, with so many season-ending injuries, it's impressive they've gotten this far.

I hope they keep the name because I know a lot of friends and relatives who call them the WTFers.  I also think the announcers have gotten used to calling them Washington Football Team, so if it ain't broke......

At the very least, it shouldn't apply if the player wouldn't normally be active.  Brown has been injured even if he hasn't been on IR.  No double ups.

I can't find anywhere with the specific rules of how all this works in the NFL, but it is my guess that if he had been on the actual IR list, as opposed to the active roster, the suspension wouldn't kick in until he was activated.

But I don't know that for sure.

Either way, it cost him 3/16 of his 2021 salary, which is supposed to be the real penalty for the players.

Last year bruce Arians said if anyone endangers me or tom moore (the offensive coordinator who is high risk) by exposing us to covid they are GONE.   Let's see if he sticks to that.  Tom Brady still likes AB so this could tunr out to be an interesting power struggle.

This Pats D is no joke, along with the ridiculous wind. Stupid Belichick and his competence. Why couldn’t they have sucked for another decade?

Yeah, Pats winning the division behind Mac Jones’ arm (though I’m guessing it’s from their running game) when this should have been the Bills year.  I definitely was naughty this year.

Lions - rebuilding since 1958.   Patriots need ONE freaking year to rebuild after Tom Brady leaves.

The Patriots revamped their roster after last year. All the money they spent on free agents is paying off. The Patriots usually struggle in the beginning of the season and get stronger as the season progresses.

Yeah, I read that they spent 165 million in the off-season and it’s paying off. The Lions are not spending that kind of cash. I’m just hoping that their luck wears off in the playoffs when they lose to a better offensive team.

Yeah... Hopefully the Giants can quickly copy that Patriots game plan from last night, which seems to be a better idea than asking Squeaky Fromme to be competent running a passing game less than two weeks after he showed up.

Really if you think about it, New England had the pieces to compete last year.  It didn't work out because a ton of their players opted out of the 2020 season.  While they finished with a losing record, they probably should not have (though 8-8 and/or 9-7 wouldn't have been enough to get them to January even with seven teams)

Why was the Bengals Chargers game scheduled to 4:25 and why is it still on at nearly that time?  Was there some sort of delay?

I might be misinterpreting your post, but the Cincinnati game that got moved up to 4:25 was the one where they're hosting San Francisco.  You'd think in a game where the winning team scored 41 points at Paul Brown Stadium for the second consecutive week would do so to the point where the game was over and done with at 3:45 - 3:50 PT EST!

Speaking of Bungles/Niners, BTW, I'm only speaking for myself, but the NFL moving that game for no reason is total crap.  I might be okay with it by Wednesday, but probably not.

The regular season ending on January 9th is dumb and stupid.

I guess when people can be stupid & rich, these things happen.  FWIW, 17 games is weird too, though it gives a team the chance at an even 20-0.  Meh; after 41 years of 16 games, there were only 7 teams (around a half percent when you total everything) that won 15 games or more, 4 made the Super Bowl, with a .500 record amongst those teams in the big game.  I do imagine this the prelude for the owners and the NFL to get to an even 18 games, and despite the CBA, I think it'll definitely happen before the 2026 season.

Anyway, ITA about the season ending on 01/09/2022.  The extra game is what it is, but they totally could've started before Labor Day.  What is even more annoying is that the NFLPA didn't even do much of anything to make sure that they were taken care of (i.e. much more expansive roster & an extra bye).   How they didn't pull for a Sunday off before a Thursday game is baffling (unless they did).  Not that the league is obligated to care about the schedule of their fans, but as a sports fan, I do enjoy starting a new year with the postseason, and furthermore, I like a nice break between the Super Bowl and Selection Sunday.  Looks like eventually they'll end up being back-to-back

Additionally, Cam is greatly diminished from his peak, never really learned the entire offense, and lost critical time early in the season due to Covid. And they still finished 7-9. I like Cam as a dude but he's done as a starting QB.

If the Patriots had average, healthy QB production last season, like 16 games of Ryan Fitzpatrick or better, they probably would have been at least 9-7.

Today is Phillip Rivers’s 40th birthday (one year for each kid!) and it got me thinking - I don’t know why Eli Manning worked playing in New York, but he totally did.  I truly do not think Rivers would have been a Giant or in New York City (New Jersey) for 16 years.  No matter what people think of what went down on draft day, those two men ended up exactly where they should have.

I don't think this has anything to do with Tom Brady.  Suspensions of players who are injured but not on IR have happened before and they apply immediately.  As has the negotiation of lower penalties in exchange for waiving any appeal.

I've already stated my case that I don't think it should apply until the players would normally be active but this is pretty standard--and maybe even part of the CBA.
