Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

So Christ-like.   I am sure if Jesus was around today, he would walk around exactly like this.

Yep.  There are all kinds of quotes in the bible where Jesus talks of "Stand your Ground", and killing people who step foot on your property.

My sister went to one of those as well! The bride made the mistake of not having servers dish out the food at the buffet, so of course guests piled three times as much food onto their plates than what they'd normally be given. They ran out about halfway through and the bride's mother was pitching a fit at the caterers telling them to come up with something. My sister and her husband were in the unfortunate group who didn't get to eat.

They clearly didn't follow Kelly Bates' rule.  Doesn't she allow for a tablespoon of food per guest?

It was a TBL of dip, IIRC. I also felt for those people who were stuck eating the Gothard cake at Erin's wedding. I wonder how tiny the slivers of slices were and whether they had sheet cake backups.

It was the first Bates wedding. I wonder how many people went home unfed?

Ah, thanks. I didn't even think of just going to FB...Surprised, in a way, there don't seem to be more people with his name, but his popped up right at the top. Wasn't there a movie with that title once upon a time? Anyway, he's OK-looking. I don't like his mouth at all in most of the photos...there's something off-putting about it...but he seems to have a really genuine smile in the photos where he is interacting with his little nieces. Those pics have a nice vibe to them which gives me some optimism. Maybe the mouth structure has to do with the teeth, which I actually find somewhat endearing, given that I have a total fetish for slightly crooky teeth. Though I do have to say that between the two of them there are probably some serious orthodontics in store for any kids they may have.

The movie Jeremiah Johnson is one of my favorite Robert Redford movies.  He was so handsome!

The version in this thread, not so much IMO.  He's OK looking, like you said, but I think the TDS photo is a turnoff.

Serious orthodontics was something that my daughter needed, thanks to my DH.  Since the Duggars seem to have a fundy orthodontist that gives Boob & Co. a break, maybe they will share him with this bunch.  Do they live in the same state?

Doesn't Jill R. worship the Duggars?  Unlike the Bates, don't the Duggars only allow  their daughters on SM after they're married?

It was the family's social media account, not Nurie's own account. The Duggars will restrict the girls getting their own account until after marriage.

Jeremiah Johnson is a common name. There's a movie (never saw it), a preacher, a family blog all with that name and all not him.

Erin's knocked up again. I'm kind of worried for her health. Due in April, already have a name. The Bateses are sure not shy about early testing, although in Erin's case it might be necessary. Whitney did it as well with Kaci.

Conception was sometime in July. I'm trying to remember if we saw any Insta pics that gave us a hint. Bates girls carry small, so I don't know be unless I go back through her IG.

I hate that she continues to risk herself.

I do, too, but in their world, they are broodmares.  And, to stop getting knocked up shows a lack of faith and brings about suspicion of using the ebil birth control.

Maybe Erin and Chad have agreed three is their limit.

Everyone here hoped they were done with two. ?

When it comes to the Bates/Duggar next generation assume there's more to come until they're at least forty.  The only exception seems to be Jinger.

Do Gothardites do fertility treatments? Like could Michael have IVF, or would that be frowned upon because it wasn't leaving her family size up to God?

I don't think they believe in IVF. It would certainly seem hypocritical.

She's talked about PCOS before her girls were born. I'm going with a misdiagnosis; who knows what kind of medical care she receives, although I do I recall her delivering in a hospital.

In other news, Nurie gets tacky courting gifts, poor thing.

What! My favourite Dugg buddy has managed to trawl a man on the hook for her eldest survivor. She is SERIOUSLY the best mom ever.  I am throwing a bit of shade here Jill, as there is no livestock.

What Questions did they GRILL him with

Do you think Nurie should still give all her $ and presents to Jill after her release?

Do you have a receipt for your Plexus order to confirm your support of Jill?

Have you ever gone to public school and been MIND DIRTIED?

Is a hospital lobby an appropriate location for say...a reception?

Have you ever been asked to cease singing at a funeral? Why not?

We've chatted a bit here re: fundies and IVF before and the short answer is no. Even some nonfundie but still conservative Christians have issues with IVF because the conception is no longer the way that God intended it ?. The biggest issue I've seen though is the extra embryo thing, and what happens to embryos not implanted and even embryos that are not viable. President Bush was so worried about the status of unused frozen embryos that he actually set aside federal funds to promote embryo adoptions. Long story short many conservative Christians believe every embryo, regardless of viability derserves a shot at life and IVF cheats them of that.

She's in a uniquely shit spot because IBLP is anti adoption as well; most other Christian groups are big adoption advocates for everyone, but especially couples struggling with infertility. And these days with the whole frozen embryo freakout, many conservative Christian couples are turning to "Snowflake adoption" and actually birthing their adopted children while doing their duty to maintain the "sanctity of life", its a daily double blessed win in evangelical Christian Jeopardy. That being said, Gothard has a whole thing of how adopted kids inherit sins of the parents, and if would be bad optics for Brandon who works at headquarters to adopt.

Well, is using IVF, wouldn't it be God's will if 'sperm met egg"?

Nope, because many folks believe that "God's will" can only be applied in one way, from the hose into the spigot. Because God did not give humans the ability to create and learn and think and advance medicine and seek healing.

It's really interesting with infertility, I've personally heard too many times to count that it's "Gods will" that I adopt or just be childless because they frown upon assistive reproductive technology, but wouldn't think anything of it to have to take warfarin shots like Erin or progesterone like Kelly had to in order to maintain her last few pregnancies. Getting help to become pregnant is ungodly but getting help to maintain a pregnancy is of God, dontcha know?

WOW Nurie is a courting!

I can see Jill putting on the tackiest err I mean elegant fundie wedding e.v.e.r. I'm sure they are busy working on it all as I type. Many dollar tree runs for fake flowers and makeup for the royal fundie wedding of the century.

@Sew Sumi For those of us who don't follow the Bates, what are your concerns about Erin's health?

She has a blood clotting condition. She has to take daily shots of Heparin during her pregnancies to sustain them.

I creeped on Jill's FB page. She has at least three posts claiming that someone was coming for a visit. Posters asked her after she mentioned that Nurie was courting if it was a Duggar or a Johnson. I highly doubt it's a Duggar.

Cute family, but Erin's a fool to keep getting knocked up like this. Her kids aren't even two years apart. I'm also wondering how they're going to cram three small children into that tiny house.

How is she going to have "spontaneous" pics of her, in full hair and makeup, at her child's hospital bedside?  Once a third baby comes, at the very least she will have to lose her perfectly arranged journal, with a sassy view of her legs and perfect manicure in these pictures.  Maintaining that image must be exhausting.

I think either Michael or Brandon have mentioned that adoption is an option.

Meh, it's the partyline, something that people expect them to say, especially because they're struggling with infertility.

Keep in mind that Kelly played a big part in trying to keep Zach and Whitney apart when they were in the "getting to know you" stage; beyond Whitney being a "pants wearer" and even having a job as a Sonic barhop, she was adopted. Allegedly, Whitney's parents lost custody of her due to neglect in the household. Anyways, shortly after it became apparent that Zach and Whitney were serious, Whitney became "convicted" to wear skirts (according to Kelly's blog) and shortly after marriage, dropped her adopted parents for her biological ones.

Of course, everything could be coincidential, but with Gil being on the IBLP board and having worked directly with their sects founder, Bill Gothard, for so long, I can't help but to think the Bates parents have a strong anti-adoption stance (even though Kelly has adopted sisters) and likely pushed Whitney into forgiving her biological parents and forging a relationship with them so that Zach and their grand babies could be "right with the Lord" ?.

With Michael being probably their most legalistic kid and with Brandon working at IBLP HQ, I would be really shocked if they adopted.

I also doubt that IBLP is paying him much more than $50k/yr. Chicago and its environs aren't cheap. And they're moving to a house, which probably almost doubled their rent. No way that someone on his salary could afford to buy there, let alone come up with the money to adopt even one child... aboveboard.

Adopting children through the foster care system usually amounts to nothing. Depending on the child's circumstances and needs state/county will provide a monthly stipend.  I had kids on my caseload who received state aid until age 18 (the majority did not have special needs) . But those are heathen children and the Kilen's won't do well with a child from "sin." Adoption gets expensive domestically when prospective parents enter the private adoption Olympics.

Jeremiah and Nurie have some serious orthodontia issues in common. Wonder if they will be asking for coupons for dental services at some point so the little army of God will be able to chew their food.

Still, if I were Nurie, I'd run from the homestead aerosol trailer at first chance and try to get a life. I just hope it works out for her.

He had to be strong-armed as it is just to walk down the aisle and get married.

I've wondered about this. Michael and Brandon courted for a lifetime (in fundie circles). They started courting January 2014 and married August 2015. Benessa I could understand courting so long because Ben was so young. But Michael and Brandon weren't teenagers. Plus weren't they "special friends" before Brandon officially asked her to court?

From creeping on his page he seems to have construction skills or works in construction which means that maybe Nurie will have a better life with him then what she has experienced with her parents because he can afford to get food.
