If JB had originally intended for all of his children to build houses and live on his acreage for the rest of their lives that could have led to some serious problems. if each of his children had an average of 10 children that would mean that approximately 200 first cousins would be growing up on JB's land. I just see potential inbreeding happening with that scenario. JB's impossible control as king of the kingdom. 200 kids having so many cousins in close proximity- who can keep tract of all of those relatives. Are you my cousin? The Duggar lifestyle passed on to the next generation.

Jim Bob is assuming that all of his spawn will a) stay in the Quiverfull lifestyle b) have inherited the Duggar fertility c) have the financial means to support 10+ kids.

The chances of this are slim to none. Some Duggar kids (Jill) may follow this lifestyle until they die but I highly doubt each and every Duggar child will.

Especially now that all the minor Duggar children have seen first-hand how awesome Gothardism turns out.

100% agree. Those appallingly-crappy ass Jill and Jessa weddings provided a lot of insight on how clueless Boob and Me-chelle are. And I must say make me more interested in Amy's wedding than I ever expected I'd be. I bet hers will be much more like Priscilla's and Anna's than Jill's or Jessa's. I think Amy will serve real food, have tables and chairs for her guests, possibly even have music and - gasp - dancing.

$20,000 would have gone pretty far with a 150-200 person guest list. I'm willing to bet that Jilly Muffin AND Jessa Blessa didn't know most of the people that showed up for their own weddings! In other words, they were so invested in having the GIGANTIC weddings (and the EVEN MORE GIGANTIC registries) that they weren't interested in how it all looked to a viewing audience that is used to weddings and receptions in which the bride and groom actually spent more than $1 a guest and pre-planned a lovely event.

The typical fundie wedding reception is cake, punch, nuts, mints and coffee, but the hall is decorated, there are tables and chairs for the guests to relax and visit with the other guests, and the bride and groom actually talk to their guests. There's nothing shameful about not having a lot of money, but it's possible to come up with something very nice on a budget. I am willing to bet that Jim Boob and J-Chelle didn't pay for any of the mess they came up with for either wedding. If a bridal shop was willing to comp FAMY's dress, for instance, Jilly Muffin and Jessa Blessa sure as hell didn't pay for a thing.

Jim Boob and J-Chelle are living in a time warp. They don't know (or don't care) that things are not the way they were when they married straight out of high school. They are so arrogant they don't believe they (or their kids) need that knowledge. Maybe some of the other kids will have the tasteful, sweet, meaningful wedding and reception their older siblings didn't get.

I'm thinking that they may even have some sort of alcoholic beverages there too!

Well I would need tons of alcoholic beverages to sit thru the disaster of a Duggar wedding. Such absurdity surrounding me at every turn? Bottoms up!

Could i sneak into a fundie wedding with a flask under my floor length skirt? I'd slip some to who ever needed it.

Grape juice! It was grape juice! Pa Keller said so, so you know it must be accurate.

Are you kidding me?  He said that?  Changing the miracle of Jesus turning water into wine into turning water into grape juice, Jesus is not going to be happy about that I'm sure!  What's he going to change next?  Just rewrite the bible Pa into something you like better.

Their wedding was paid for by the Kellars, for the most part.

That is terrible considering those people don't have a pot to piss in and JB has millions. They did give them a beautiful wedding.

Plus, I can change water into grape juice everyday if I wanted, wine I still can't. Plus its not like "grape juice" wouldn't ferment in the heat anyway. There are understandable reasons for abstaining from alcohol or not wanting to use it in communion. But don't pretend that's what the Bible said.

This was actually from a story about Josh going into "rehab" (I use that word loosely in this case) but I think it belongs here and it's honestly one of the best, funniest things I've ever read about JimBob and I very, very much want it to be true.  I would LOVE to hear from more people who actually called him on all the BS he spews.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/celebrity/josh-duggar-entering-sex-rehab/ar-BBm7xrj

In its latest cover story, People magazine said that family patriarch Jim Bob "exerts authority over his wife and family."

"Jim Bob's favorite word is 'no.' He's like a dictator," a source said. "He once saw a guy kissing a girl before marriage and confronted him about it. And the guy said, 'Jim Bob, show me that verse in the Bible that says we can't kiss. Get out your Bible.' And Jim Bob was like, 'Uhhhh …' because no one ever confronts Jim Bob. No one ... Jim Bob calls the shots. Always has and always will."

I grew up in the Assemblies of God church and we heard the "wine into grape juice" miracle EVERY Communion Sunday. Because after all, the pastors might have to explain why the church does not abide by the New Testament teachings of Christ and are still flogging legalism from the Old Testament.

It's the "pick and choose" Bible, in which one ignores the multiple commands against divorce (imagine how empty the pews and the collection plate would be every Sunday!) in favor of much more "do-able" theology like discriminating against LGBTQ people and telling one's flock to abide by a number of unwritten rules that will make them More Holy. (No dancing, despite the fact it's mentioned in the Bible. No drinking alcohol. No music with "syncopated rhythm". No pants on women. No R rated movies. No rollerskating. I could go on.)

Someone said a few days ago here that they couldn't figure out what theology was taught in Jim Boob's "home church". There is none. Again, they make it up as they go along. An uneducated control freak with no seminary training decides he's qualified to lead the flock. And we've all seen how that went, haven't we?

Seriously --- there's a book coming. This stuff is just too good to ignore, and the floodgates have opened re: "inside sources" and "family insiders". In other words, whoever is writing will have plenty of material. The ghostwriter has been hired and the writing has probably already started. And I don't believe the author is anyone within the Duggar household. This will be out at the speed of light and will be a sensation.

And Jim Boob and J-Chelle will be writing their own book/featured in another tearful TV interview as soon as they can line it up (and get paid for it).

I hope this is the right place to place this question....something to toss out, food for thought.

Given that Anna is being STRONGLY encouraged to not leave Josh, what if Derick had done this to Jill? What would JB say then? Just wondering....

(Mind, I really can't see Derick doing something like that, I'm just thinking JB would really take that hard if it were to happen, I sense that she is one of his favored daughters).

If the Duggars clan are worrying about lack of funds, they should go into the manure business since they are growing their own form of bs each time they make a statement.

I suggested that yesterday in the thread about the cowboy video.    I called it Duggar Dung.     Now, that is about the only job they may be actually qualified for.

Except its real work and the Duggars have no clue what real work is.

Anna was the answer to Jim Boob and J-Chelle's "prayers". Young, too brainwashed to ask questions, and I will bet something significant (let me think about this) that she had no idea what Josh did before they got married. I'm also betting that Jim Boob waved being a TV star (and the resulting cash) in front of her and her dazzled parents' eyes as well. I'm also betting Anna did not know about the molestations or how long they went on until InTouch called their house looking for a comment before they went to press. It's too easy to get a credit card with paperless statements these days, too, so we all know she had no idea about Ashley Madison/hookers/porn/whatever else it is he's into before the media started calling their house. Again.

Jim Boob and J-Chelle's Job One was to get Smuggar married off. Period. I saw a very quick report the other day that Josh was in a "courtship" at age 14 that did not work out. In other words, they knew they had a problem. Everything they tried to keep a lid on it did not work. Instead of fixing the situation, it got worse. And the brainwashing/"counseling" ramped up as well. ("Do you like your life? Do you enjoy driving a Humvee, carrying a Coach purse, blowing $100 at the consignment shop for the kids? Do you like being on TV? Then shut up and do as we tell you. Let's pray.")

What do you think Jim Boob and J-Chelle's reaction will be when Smuggar checks himself out of his 6-week rehab long before the 6 weeks is up?

Is it just Josh or the Gothard parenting paradigm? One woman has written an article shedding light on the Gothard practices. Her ex-husband was raised Gothard and turned out like Josh, even molesting his sisters!

Michelle and JB, please evaluate whether your parenting techniques contributed to Josh's problem. How many of those 19 kids are boys?

how absolutely horrifying! The similarities between the two are scary, as are the MIL's to the Duggar parents.

All of Boob and Michelle's talk about 'character qualities' has really bit them in the ass. I take much satisfaction in knowing that when Boob wakes up everyday, that yuk-yuk smirk is wiped off his face. I have satisfaction that everyone knows their dirty little secrets. I also take satisfaction in knowing that Boob and Mullet will always feel slightly uncomfortable when they go out in public now ; always waiting for the next shoe to drop. They will always wonder 'Is that person going to sell me out to the tabloids?' or 'Did Josh sleep with that young lady?'

For anyone else, I would have some pity but not for these two. They've been living in their perfect little Gothard bubble for so long. Now the tide has turned and they're getting a dose of what they've dished out to others, including their children. They've made their children confess every thought and emotion including sexual thoughts. Now the public knows their sexual and religious views and I hope it makes them squirm.

I am honestly disgusted by the Kellar parents after reading Daniels comments on Jessa's Facebook.  (All of which have been deleted.)  I should not be surprised but I am still really disgusted by them and the fact that they encourage their daughter to stay with him.

They always gave me a bit of a creepy feeling but I gave them the benefit of a doubt. Pa Kellar was just way too happy when he came to see the DC house that Josh and Anna moved into.  It seemed as if he was thinking what a good decision he had made by pawning his daughter off to a child molester.  Oh boy!  Look at all this space you have now Anna!  All you had to do was marry Josh, have lots of kids and put up with him sleeping with strippers. Pa Kellar is a creepy guy.   Just my opinion and I will go to the prayer closet now.

Aja, thank you! I don't think I've heard it from anyone else, but I've been thinking it the entire time: God put the Duggars in their place but good, but in the Duggar's idiotic twisted minds, they are blaming both scandals entirely on Satan. I guarantee it.

Another religiously naive question, thank-you all in advance for bearing with me. Derick's mom referred to cancer as "the devil's work" and JB & M referred to God giving them the show to share their ministry. So are their beliefs that of, everything good comes from God and everything bad is the devil's work?

Evidently.

I was raised Catholic and did a pretty thorough study of the various Protestant denominations and a broad investigation of the world's other major religions before declaring myself agnostic. The Duggars' simplistic, binary perception of good and bad matching up to what they do or don't want isn't unique among practitioners, but I don't think it's actually taught by any religion I came across. IOW , it's them dumbing down the religious elements to suit their own purposes and ingrained fears and prejudices.

YMMV.

I really want the tabloids or People to reveal a lot more of the parents, since they wish to remain front and centre. Do they skim donations from Jill and Derrick, did they share the money from TLC with the kids or use it as a control. Will People explain that the kids are taught to reveal their most private thoughts to their parents. The statement Michelle made regarding Jinger and her desire to go to NY. Did they have Josh in a 'courtship' at a very young age?  These Frankensteins can share some of the blame for creating a Josh. Yes, he is responsible for his behaviour, or rather, Satan is of course.

Josh's downfall is a damn clear sign that JB&M are doing a lot of things very badly. What steams me is that rather than facing that reality and reconsidering their lifestyle, they will almost certainly double down. Josh didn't fail because of Gothard; he failed because we didn't Gothard hard enough! So now we must pray MORE and restrict our children MORE and isolate ourselves MORE and wear snowsuits in the shower, because look what the big bad Satanic world did to Josh as soon as we loosened the reins! Viewing Joshgate through their warped lens, they will see this as validation of all their worst fears and be all the more convinced that the world is wrong and they will continue to see themselves as God's golden children who must lead the world out of its sin and shame. They'll probably even twist Joshgate into a cautionary tale in support of their dangerous child-rearing philosophy. And that will lead them on the new Redemption! career path others have predicted. Maybe they could preach that God used Satan to make an example of Josh to show the world what he can do if we don't follow Duggar Law.

I'll stop now because I'm making myself dizzy following this hypothetical path of twisted logic.

You nailed it, momofsquid. As I posted in the Smuggar topic, I think this bogus "rehab" for Josh is Duggarspeak for "casting Satan out of Josh's heart." Because as you said, JB and Michelle must believe that the only explanation for their Number One Son's having sought sexual gratification outside his marriage bed is "We didn't pray hard enough and Satan got into his heart!"

So now he's gonna thump the Bible and do some kind of free labor without internet access.

What could possibly go wrong with that plan?

Aargh. The more I think about it, the more horrible it sounds. Okay, I don't find Josh likable, and like millions of other First World inhabitants, including me, he could probably do with some time away from his phone/computer/iPad/internet. But whatever his problems are, I can't believe they will be solved by this bogus cult "rehab" program. The tragedy could well be that it "breaks" Josh's spirit, but not in the glory hallelujah sense his parents might want. I mean, really break him. Push him over the edge into some kind of brainwashed state where he's walking and talking like a good Gothardite husband/father, and inside he's just dead. I don't know if that's psychologically possible, but I fear that it is.

Dammit, I so loathe the Duggars and their ilk.

I agree with all of this!

The worst part is, if Josh does return to the fold as a broken, brainwashed robot spouting the Gothard line, they would all be thrilled. Because their child "training" is all about producing brainwashed robots. That is the goal. They want kids who are completely incapable of even having a non-approved thought, because their spirit has been broken. It's downright evil.

And if Josh comes back, they will go back on the cover of People magazine and crow about how this proves they were right all along!

Yes, it is possible that Josh is just a sicko who would have turned into a predator no matter who raised him. But that still leaves 16 other people, plus Anna and the grandkids, under the control of Jim Bob and Michelle, trying to live in a soul-crushing system, with probably even less freedom and more authoritarian control than they've ever had before. The whole situation is horrible.

ETA that I do not believe JB & M are deliberately evil. I think they genuinely believe this is the right way to raise Christian children. But I think they have accepted some very, very dangerous and destructive parenting theories that are harming a hell of a lot of people.

I wonder if Boob and J'Chelle feel like idiots about preaching about how evil the outside world is, but in reality their kids were probably safer in the outside world, then in their own home.

I asked my dad once why the people we knew at church were meaner than the people we knew outside church (granted, at the time the only people I knew outside church were my teachers). He told me to imagine how mean they'd be if they didn't go to church.

I'm pretty sure they think that this is just evidence that the outside world is more evil than they ever dreamed.

Exactly, GeeGolly. I was raised in a southern Baptist church, and I was taught to believe that from day 1. But I was also taught that if bad things happen to you, it's God punishing you for some unforgiven sin. It's very confusing.
