My husband and I have taken a couple of Amtrak trips, in a roomette. That gave us the comfort and privacy we craved along with socializing with fellow travelers at mealtimes and in the observation car. I don't know what it's like now during COVID, but we really enjoyed traveling that way. I'd like to eventually do a train trip in Canada.  Internet was spotty on Amtrak, but we had books, games and whatever we had downloaded to keep us entertained. And there's always scenery, except at night, when we slept like babies as the train rocked along!

My son and I have been planning to do exactly this!  He’s an Amtrak fanatic and we love to see new places. Hopefully in 2022!

Hearing all the good surgery stories are making me feel better.  I’m having a robotic assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy on Thursday, and even though I asked the doctor for the procedure, I’m getting very anxious. What if something goes wrong and they knick an organ or have to take my ovaries?  Granted I’ve had two myomectomies and don’t want a third but it’s still worrying.

Some of you may remember I got my infertility diagnosis last year.  I’m doing okay with that but this is not at all how I thought this journey would end.  I keep asking myself am I making the right decision.

((((Hugs))) things like this are never easy. It’s normal to feel anxious before surgery- but I think you’ll know the right decision for you.  But your feelings are so normal!

I cannot remember if you were the poster that called it “Project Yank the Uterus”; you’ve been having pain and difficulty for quite a while no?

You got this. I have two friends who have had hysterectomies and in both cases, it was simple and they wish they'd done it sooner. Positive energy sent your direction.

Same here. I had a massive uterine tumor. So large that it wasn’t possible to do laparoscopic surgery, and so I have a vertical scar from my navel to the top of my pubic bone. But it was worth it! Recovery was quite easy and I’ve had no problems since. You’ll do great @Ijustwantsomechips!

When I had my hysterectomy my uterus was attached to my bladder with scar tissue that formed after my C-Section (less than a year between the two). Surgery/gas pain was rough but I immediately noticed a difference with it gone after a lifetime of pain. It was the best decision I’ve made and I have no regrets having had one!

However, I do get really shit comments about it from people, but still, Amazing!

That's me. I'm still waiting for a surgery date. I had my MRI 12/27, and they sent the report to the doctor right away, but not the images. Call. Even though I signed a release specifying they needed to be sent, they "didn't know they were supposed to" send images. They sent them electronically. Doctor can't access them. Call. Where are the hard copies? Not sent, because "no one told them". I told them. They were overnighted, and should have gotten to the doctor Friday. Office was closed yesterday. I had better hear something today...
But I think @Ijustwantsomechips has been having issues for quite a while too. It seems to be a common theme with women and hysterectomies. It takes years to get anything done.

Ah! Thanks for clarifying for me.

So sorry you have been having so many issues as well. “No one told them to send it”? Really now? Ugh I’m so sorry. What a PITA!

thats great news on your birthday. i had mine done when i was very young - 29. to be honest for Ijustwantsomechips, that first year was hard to adjust for me  but mostly emotionally. (i had 4 little kids at home between age 1-8). they left me one ovary to avoid full menopause BUT started me on hormones anyway. it was a rough adjustment that first year of back and forth dosages. all that said, i would HANDS DOWN do it again tomorrow if i needed to. it gave me my life back.  i dont know your age, but if they offer you the hormone cream to insert nightly, take that. it helps avoid basically the shriveling up of your vagina ( can i say that?).  they should have told me that years ago and it would have saved me lots of pain and trouble. but in the end, its worth it.

Happy birthday @Turquoise! Best wishes on your surgery and a speedy recovery. No one told me the Ultrasound department wouldn’t call with my results so I waited an entire month before getting it scheduled. That was last September/early October.

And thanks to @Scarlett45 @jcbrown @Cinnabon @NotthebadVictoria and all the well wishers. Unfortunately, surgery has been rescheduled. I went for my pre-op appointment Friday and took a COVID test. Of course the results came back positive yesterday 🤬🤬🤬Now y’all know I’ve been having COVID symptoms since December 30, and my test comes back positive 6 days before surgery.  The hospital recommended waiting 30 whole damned days, so now my op date is March 3rd. MARCH 3RD!!!

The thought of having two more periods literally has me depressed and in bed. I’m so ready for this phase of life to be over. How the hell am I supposed to keep myself safe and healthy for the next 6 weeks when my job wants me back at work Thursday because the only symptom they consider is a fever, which I don’t have, so they want me back COVID and all.  And my jackass of a supervisor has us traveling to the northern part of the state next week to conduct 10 in person trainings in three different cities.

They won't take the positive test as proof? Crazy just crazy.  Can you tell people you are positive so they can decide if they want to get close to you?

Their thinking is as long as you don’t have a fever you don’t have symptoms so it’s safe for you to return to work after five days. So people have been coming to work without getting a negative test, and most people wear their masks incorrectly in the building.  But they completely ignored the CDC’s guidance on not traveling.  And let’s be honest here, five days is not enough quarantine which is why there’s talk the CDC (who I have no confidence in at this point) will probably change it back to 10 days.  No one in my family has had a fever except the baby, but we had the other symptoms because we’ve all had COVID.  My head wants to explode and I feel like I’ve been flogged with a thousand whiffle bats.  Surely that counts as symptoms.

Same here. I need to declutter my kitchen/pantry. I’m just so unmotivated lol. And in the spring I need to declutter my winter clothes/winter bedding.

I understand. I work retail and while my company has been great about Covid ( don't come to work testing positive and has actually adjusted store hours for people being sick) normally people have had to work with flu, colds ect. It just seems like companies would wake up and understand that it is counterproductive to have people work sick. Can you report them to Osha?

Employers need to enforce mask rules and distancing when possible. What is wrong with people?

One of my daughters works for Amazon. Just putting this out there for anyone who may be interested, or for anyone who may know someone who may be interested. It applies to all full time employees at all levels.

She is planning on having a baby in the near future.

This is the leave she can take, from a text she sent me:

Amazon offers four weeks prior to your due date paid 100%, eight weeks after paid 100%, and then eight weeks of a Ramp Back Program, where you still get 100% of your salary but work 50% of your hours.

The time can be split in half and used two separate times within a year of the birth.
My son-in-law would also be eligible for leave and works for Amazon also.

There are many things that suck about Amazon, this isn’t one of them.

They also cover infertility treatments, and contribute toward the cost of adoption.

Their lowest paid wage slaves don’t get anything at all, though.

From what I understand, they use a lot of temp workers in the factories so they don’t have to pay them benefits and can let them go at any time.

Amazon hires contingent workers and temps through staffing agencies and consulting companies. It’s one way to get hired. It wouldn’t be my ideal choice, if I didn’t have benefits elsewhere.

I agree with you but in retail it is difficult.  In the company I work for all employees are required to wear a mask when a customer is in the store. I my store we also wear a mask when n we are near each other.  We are not allowed to ask a customer to put on a mask. One reason is there have been instances of customers being aggressive when this is done. Another reason, though not talked about,  is frankly we cannot afford to lose a sale. In an office I am sure some people would quit before wearing a mask and they may have a problem replacing them. I see no reason  iwantsomechips should be made to work when ill whether it's in office or traveling.  That's is just wrong.

Sunday positive: Woke up to a beautiful snowfall this morning. I'm grateful that our association handles the plowing and shoveling. I'm grateful that the snow came while most people were sleeping and most don't have to work or go to school today. Nothing to do but enjoy the beauty and perhaps take a walk in it! (And watch football!)

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes! My day was spent in quarantine due to Mr. Turquoise having surgery on his knee (that was bad enough to require surgery but not nearly as SEVERE as Jill's) on Thursday. He thought ahead and got the fixings for a steak dinner and a cake. It was a nice day, and everyone's well wishes just added to it!

The surgery went well-doctor told me when he got in there the tear was worse than the MRI had indicated, but he felt the surgery would make a big improvement. We are already seeing results.

Good choice on the movies, @iwantcookies! It's nice to go out and do normal things like pre-pandemic! I've always liked going to a movie in a nearly empty theater. It's almost like being at home!

I went to the movies on Christmas Day (new West Side Story) and it was a lot more crowded than I expected. But most kept their masks on, it seemed, so that was great.

  • Love 5

we went to the movie on saturday morning. there were 7 people, mostly masked. it was a pick-your-own-seats-off-a-screen type. so we picked ours way over on the other side of the theater from the rest, right? wouldn't you know that #6 and #7 were two very nice guys with lots of snacks to eat.....and they sat DIRECTLY in front of us.  the other 3 people were in the furthest reaches of the theater, apart from each other.   oh, in case you wonder, we saw Redeeming Love, based off the book written by Francine Rivers.  it was really good, well done and definitely conveyed the message of the book.  there is violence and some minor suggestive nudity but saying that, there is no direct nudity. it is best not for younger kids due to subject matter, IMHO.

Happy Belated Birthday, @Turquoise!!  I hope your husband's recovery goes well, and he's back on his feet soon!

Today was a rough day for Baltimore.  Three city firefighters were killed in the line of duty, and one additional is in critical, but stable, condition.  A vacant rowhome caught fire around 600am, and there was a partial collapse trapping all four.  It was just heartbreaking to read the updates that were being released throughout the day.
