Small Talk: The Prayer Closet

Message added by Scarlett45

This is a reminder that the Politics Policy is still in effect.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss political social media posts of those in the Duggar realm- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

Political discussion is not allowed in this forum- this includes Small Talk topics. Please stay in the spirit of the policy- I have noticed a tendency for some to follow the letter but not the spirit.

While we understand the frustration (change is never easy), please keep in mind that not everyone feels the same way and that for those members who don't, the ongoing conversation about other forums and chat options can equally be a cause of frustration.

Out of respect for your fellow posters, we kindly ask that you continue any discussion about alternatives via PM or the Technically Speaking: Bugs, Questions, & Suggestions area.

I thought I "wanted" to be Grammy, but the first one couldn't wrap his tongue around it.  He called me "Giggy" (rhymes with Ziggy), and it stuck.   They all call me Giggy.

My mom was going to be Meme. When my daughter started to talk she called her Mom-mom. 17 years and 10 grandchildren later she's still Mom-mom.

I joking tell my kids I want to be called "the queen" when they have kids many, many years from now. They aren't buying it.

Is it me, or is there a lot of new posters on the threads?

It says I signed up in December 2016 but I've been posting more on this site lately too. I think I found it because of Sister Wives but tbh, I don't remember what caused me to find this site.

I've been snarkwatching the Duggers for years and just sorta bumped into this one day and slowly started posting more and more. I'm def not a new watcher of the Dugz. They're fascinating on so many levels. I don't know anyone else who watches, so when I read your posts, I think, "Glad I'm not the only one who saw/thought that." Or you guys pick up something I didn't, or you guys are simply hilarious! Sometimes I read the forum before I watch the show. It makes watching it fun in a different way.

Thank you all for your continued prayers.

I still pay attention to people's pet's names and pass them on.

When I lived in Georgia,, I met a guy at the vet who had the most adorable bulldog.  I asked him what her name was, and he said "Sugar, because you can't spell Sugar without UGA."  Of course the UGA mascot is a bulldog.  I thought it was so cute and clever!

Love it! I'm from GA and my parents still live there. My grandfather was the Dean at Georgia State, but the family still roots for UGA because football. SEC football.

Bulldogs are so stankin' cute. I call them stinkalinkas.  Something I made up when I was a kid whenever a saw a dog with jowls that rode low to the ground. My favorite auntie had a Basset hound.  Plus, bulldogs are renowned for their flatulence.

Here's a commercial for those who love bulldogs.

My cat came to us from the shelter with the name Marty, but I just hated that.  Since he's all white, I wanted a ghostly name, so I called him Marley (as in Jacob).  It was close to Marty, and I just figured he thinks we're too stupid to say his name properly!  My Hepzibah was actually called Happy.  She wouldn't answer to Hepzibah, but the first time I called her Zibby, she came running.  Now if I could just get it through to everyone that her name isn't Zippy...

I never really loved the name Cora (that she came with), but did't hate it either. Sometimes I call her Coraline. She's actually way too sociable to really be a "Endora"...she literally loves everybody. Even if someone she has never seen comes in the house she will be right there looking for cuddles and attention. And if they have a lap, she will find it (I tend to sit leaning with my legs tucked up to one side, so at best she can sit on my hip). She does have those witchy eyes, though :)  12814545_10153906446842778_9012112390269

@Arwen Evenstar, I actually sat here and worked on trying to get a happy dance meme for you on here last night.  I think I fell asleep at the wheel, to be honest.  I'm dead certain that's why I have grands in this day and age; I never did figure out how to program a VCR.  I am beyond thrilled that the treatment is working so well.

@Sew Sumi, that drag queen thing was LOL funny!!!  I've wondered myself if @Arwen Evenstar had us all worked up about a boob job and an Adams Apple shave down...  (jk, I know better, but the QUEEN thing was goooood!!!)

@Jynnan tonnix, that cat is fabulous.  I don't even like cats (I'm a dog girl) and she's just beautiful.   Such a dog girl am I, in fact, that I considered going on a dog poo run and spreading it around in my garden to keep the deer out.  (It would keep ME out, you know??)  I went so far as to look it up, but it's not recommended.  Not from a safety standpoint, but one blogger said she tried it because it stinks and she thought the deer would be leery.  Turns out it's not good because it stinks and draws flies, but the deer don't mind it at all.

STORYTIME:

Because you KNOW I have stories!!!

My daughter (with her 4 children and one other of my grands) was able to come to the mountains with me for a bit.  (HAD A BLAST!!!)  But on the way, the kids were feeling canned and pickled, so we stopped at Zaxby's to let them breathe.  When we were done eating, the girls (only 1 boy in that whole stack, unfortunately for him) all trouped to the restroom one after the other.  I wasn't watching the restroom, the youngest being 9 and I'm nearby, but in my subconscious, I knew when that last kid (the 9 yr) went in.  I had to go too, so I went in behind her.  She's in a stall.  There's another stall, but I opted to wait for her in the common area so she'd know we could go to the car together.

WHile I'm waiting, there's this ENORMOUS blast of gas - maybe one of the most impressive farts I've ever heard in my life.  The walls shook.  I didn't say anything, didn't laugh.  Made a mental note.  But then, BOOM (rumble-rumble, plaster falling)!!!  There's another!  I couldn't help it, I laughed and I said, "What was THAT???"   Recognizing my voice, my grand made that up and down noise that (in kid speak) means "I dunno".

But then, the other stall door opened and a total stranger walked out.  I was HORRIFIED, and she gave me the full up and down stare-down, her face clearly saying "rude, biiiiiitch!"   Which.  Obviously, I deserved.

And then my grand came out of her stall, and (here's the best part) while they're washing their hands at the same time, she's giving the other lady the full up and down appraisal.  Thinking "Wow.  Was that YOU???"  or maybe she wanted an autograph.  Not sure, but the looks that passed in that quiet room were priceless!   When we got back to the car, I was trying to tell the rest of them what happened and was laughing so hard I could hardly get it out.

My hair was only reddish because I was trying to grow out some highlights which turned out to be a permanent (though very pretty) copper color when I washed the rest of the hair dye out to see if I was ready to  go "natural". I've always wished I had red hair, but it's just basic salt and pepper brown (though I still haven't been brave enough to let the "salt" come out to play). My eyes are a pretty nondescript shade of brown as well.

@ARWEN EVENSTAR, such good news. I could see you posting in other forums but  no update, so I was a little worried. I can't tell you how happy this makes me. Keep up the good fight and know we are there behind you every step of the way, right behind Mr. E. Hugs, prayers and much love to you.

I had a dream once where some friends of mine got cats and they were named after the Bewitched characters!

Tabitha, Endora, Darren, and Larry Tate! They all seem like great cat names! (So do Adam, Samantha, Maurice, and Arthur, but in my dream there were only four cats.)

What about Serena?

Thanks to all of you for the outpouring of love and support.

I kept quiet for a while because the low blood counts  and neuropathy  had me down.

Ha! I was going to add Serena as well, but then decided to stick with just one name in the post since Doctor Bombay sounded more like a stand-alone statement :)

There was Aunt Clara as well...

I have a senior kitty who could have totally have been an Aunt Clara, but we got her when she about 2, so she already knew her name, which also totally (tm Jill) fits her. But man, she's a ditz.

We're semi shopping for another kitty (keep putting it off, but 8/19 is clear the shelters day...we may try to help), and if it's a male, Larry Tate or Dr. Bombay are so perfect. However, my hubby has a vote, and he may just go with James Tiberius Kirk. LOL

Arwen, WAY TO GO!!!! I'm so happy for you, this is awesome news!

HFC, I made the mistake of reading your epic fart story while in a meeting at work (yes, I hate my job so much right now) and I'm now trying to hide the fact that I'm in tears from suppressed laughter. And the fact that she gave you a rude look is just amazing! If I had let go with something so loud it shook the walls, I'd be apologizing right and left. But maybe that's just me!

Sew Sumi, I hope your husband wins, a cat named James Tiberius Kirk cracks me up!

hi friends, its been a rough week around the zoo.  i was first on scene at a hit and run involving a pedestrian that did not make it. gruesome would not be a big enough word.   i have a mental video cycling in my brain of what i saw. then, 6 days later, we had a brush fire that literally ran up to fences of the houses directly across the street from us. we were ordered to evacuate. it was scary as heck. the houses on the northern end of our street and neighborhood  were bathed in fos-check, the orange spray-foam  that the planes drop on fires. what a freakin mess. however, no houses lost, no lives lost and a GREAT effort by the fire folks to save us and clean up afterwards. we had a large family of wild donkeys resting on our street yesterday, possibly stressed from the fire. oh and then, also yesterday - i nearly started a fire in my microwave!   my house smells worse from that than the brush fire!!!  needless to say, i am worthless lately.

Oh, @zoomama, I am so sorry. How awful to have witnessed that tragedy and then the fire. I would be a complete wreck. So glad the houses will be ok and you didn't have a microwave  fire. (I did the same thing once...tried to microwave heat a box of soup that I didn't know had tinfoil inside.) Hugs to you and wishes for a much calmer rest of the month.

zoomama, how horrible! I don't even have words, I hope you can get some rest and recover from everything.

My sweet dog passed away this morning. She was almost 13, had seizures all of her life and was recently diagnosed with Cushing's Disease. She stopped eating about 24 hours ago and her back legs were just so weak I knew it was time to let her go. I've been a complete mess all day and I'm trying to pull it together to go back into work tomorrow. I got her the weekend I moved into my house so I've never lived here without her. It's tough.

@emma675 I am so sorry to hear about your sweet dog. {{{HUGS}}}

@zoomama I am so sorry to hear about what you have been going though. I was hit by a car the day before my fourth birthday (not a hit and run,) so I can understand how scary and frightening it must have been for you.

We have been dealing with some nasty wildfires in Montana, but none have been close to where I live. The smoke and heat has not been pleasant, and we have had no major rain since mid June. I have been dealing with eye problems on and off  for the last few months. My poor right eye has taken a beating after the smoke in the Helena area has gotten nasty. The eye specialist I was sent to thinks it is related to the sleep apnea and the CPAP mask I wear at night. It looks like the one side of both eyes has stretched? a little since people with Sleep Apnea sleep on their side or stomach. Add the smoke, the heat and the light sensitivity, and my eyes are not happy campers.
