Bastet April 11 Share April 11 I wanted to try all those restaurants they staged at. I knew it was going to be Kat and Corwin eliminated, which bummed me out as I'm ready to lose Vinny (not Lana, but she's distinguished herself more to me by how stunningly beautiful she is and how much I love her voice than by making memorable food). I agree with what the judges said, they have no idea who he is as a chef, just who all his famous mentors are. It's pretty cool for the team with immunity to turn out the best dish of the night. That was the one I most wanted to eat, but the Royal Thai was a very close second. 11 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152885-s22e05-line-cook-for-a-day/#findComment-8632144

Pandora April 11 Share April 11 I knew Kat and Corwin were goners when Kat launched into a long explanation of the batter. It was pretty clear at judges table how watery the dish turned out. I loved Paula’s sideways eye roll when Massimo said he handled stress well. HappyDancex2 April 11 Share April 11 The editors hate us LOL. Why the 2 vocal fry’s have the voiceover commentary for 90 percent of the episode had my nerves ratttttttttled!!!!! loved seeing Sara back…she looks fantastic and coupled with the fact that she’s competing on TOC as well makes her a great edition to a comeback on the circuit of food TV. Not sure why she was relevant in this episode and she was barely introduced! HappyDancex2 April 11 Share April 11 All of the food places looked quite excellent! I would like to visit Canada again soon….yum! The Thai food always looks great to me but thats a different version of Filipino food that I’ve had and would love to try that place. Or maybe it was the way they separated out the condiments made it more interesting? I’m definitely going out for Indian tomorrow though….get some cashew butter chicken! And Vinny pronouncing it karma instead of Kama was hilarious…. Excited for susar next week. I hope they have to rework the ingredients of his famous salad and make it peasant comfort food. Or a casserole. 1 hour ago, Thumper said: Yes, I was hoping for a Vinnie (not Lana) elimination. Seemed like he REALLY wanted that hollandaise sauce on it. Dude was really worked up over the hollandaise. I actually got his concept but got confused during judging that the hollandaise was on top of an already sauced chicken so it read super heavy. I missed the other sauce. What didn’t help was his partner didn’t even seem to eat Indian food, let alone cook it. And the butter chicken sauce can be quite creamy and not in your face spicy depending on who is cooking it. Too bad they didn’t make a chutney or pickles to cut through the fat. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152885-s22e05-line-cook-for-a-day/#findComment-8632218

PhoneCop April 11 Share April 11 Well, partial credit for me—as soon as I saw the Vinny/Lana pairing, I had a feeling it'd be a repeat of the first Quickfire, with him being unnecessarily extra and her letting him, only this time it'd backfire. Hopefully this'll teach him to stop with the teacher's-pet showboating and her to step it up since she's been riding the middle up to this point. But yay for Tristen's back-to-back wins! We have a frontrunner. 9 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152885-s22e05-line-cook-for-a-day/#findComment-8632280
rhofmovalley April 11 Share April 11 I expected the judges to ask Lana how she felt about the hollandaise, she'd say she wasn't entirely on board, then they'd ask her why she didn't speak up. But they didn't, or at least it didn't make it into the episode if they did. I like Vinny but he needs to stop trying to show off for his boss or whoever it is he's trying to impress with his "homages". 10 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152885-s22e05-line-cook-for-a-day/#findComment-8632493

Kindred Spirit April 11 Share April 11 I can't get over my feeling that Vinny is a bully and a braggart, and that he ran roughshod over Lana. And she let him, because of the apple bowl experience, but the feminist in me is wondering if he would have been equally insistent with a male teammate? We'll never know... At this point, I would really like to see Vinny and Massimo paired up, to see if they have the same dynamic with each other as they do when working with a female. I was impressed by Paula's pushback. She seemed to know when to step up and when to let the loudest yogi in the world roll. I'm having a very hard time wrapping my head around the fact that Massimo can teach yoga! 15 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152885-s22e05-line-cook-for-a-day/#findComment-8632572

Katianna has 2 quickfire wins(the episode 1 and 3 ones), though one of them was a team challenge, one EC win(episode 3), and got one of the top spots this episode, and was never at the bottom, so she was consistently great. Interestingly enough, she won both the quickfire, and EC in episode 3. She's actually one of the best chefs in the competition with Corwin, and Kat out of the race, so it's not just you. She's honestly probably the second best chef in the season after this week. There's a Wikipedia page for each of the seasons of Top Chef that has a great chart for that. I've put the link to this season's page below. If you scroll down to the "Contestant Progress" section, you'll see the chart. It keeps track for both the Quickfire and Elimination challenges. Small *spoiler alert*: The first paragraph on this TC Wiki page does name all five locations where the Canada season was filmed, so if you don’t want to be spoiled about where this group will be heading over the next seversl weeks, scroll down fast and don't look at paragraph #1! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Chef:_Destination_Canada 4 1 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152885-s22e05-line-cook-for-a-day/#findComment-8633598

Well Tristen won immunity for next week by winning this week's elimination challenge, so we know for sure that he won't be going next week, his mission for next week is pretty much just to try and win that elimination challenge to win immunity for the week after. AriAu April 14 Share April 14 I traditionally wait to comment until they have "culled the herd" a little bit since there are too many people and too many things going on (and too much editing for narrative) to analyze much other than clear front runners....and that is the case with Tristan, who has been obviously kicking ass even tho his bio was not as attention grabbing as some of the others. All that being said, this is about the least interesting group I have watched in a long time. I am really having a hard time developing any rooting interest....other than against Vinnie. They all have learned from prior seasons to be on their best behavior and get the most positive PR and that is just not making for interesting television, either positive or negative....at least so far. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152885-s22e05-line-cook-for-a-day/#findComment-8635334

I think the show got a lot of that kind of casting out of its system in the early years (with Season 9's bullying as a mid-period exception). Which is fine by me—I want to see creativity, technique, and culinary perspective. I watch Big Brother for arrogant twits being their worst selves. SemiCharmedLife 9 hours ago Share 9 hours ago Corwin and Kat's croquet sounded appalling the way the judges described it. I had a feeling they would be eliminated over it. I thought Kat had an idea for arancini, rather than a potato-based croquet. I don't know if that would have helped with the moisture issue or not, but I do believe they pivoted from their original idea (of course, not having the salt cod was the main issue.)
