Oh, man, that sucks!  I had the great good fortune to see CS&N twice.  Great shows, both times.  The second time, though, the stranger sitting next to me had clearly been pre-gaming -- she kept going on and on about how these guys were her favorites, and she was their number one fan and so on, which fine, whatever.  Then she asked me which one of the three on stage was Neil Young.

I am really gonna hate telling my husband about Croz.  He's a huge fan of CSN, CSNY, Byrds, and so much of the Laurel Canyon sounds.  His recent work on Lighthouse is so good.  I can strongly recommend the documentary about him called Remember My Name.

Wow...the hits just keep on comin'...and not in a good way.

I am a huge fan too…..man….this is so sad.  What a legend.  I feel that music in my soul from childhood.  He has a complicated musical history, that’s for sure, but it was full of spirit and passion.  I saw him once with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.  A real privilege.

Love Joan Baez’ portrait of David Crosby
and her tribute post in Facebook, text quoted for non-FBers:

Quote

In 1965, Bob Dylan and I were discussing the state of the music scene. He said The Byrds, who had made a hit of “Mr. Tambourine Man,” were the only thing happening musically at that point in time.  Perhaps an exaggeration, but certainly a tribute to the stellar musicians who formed the budding monster groups of the years to come like The Byrds and CSNY.

David Crosby was among the monster group icons who continued a solo career with the kind of success reserved for great musicians. And he could sing the hell out of a harmony.

He was also a friend to me. He was always, I repeat, always present for me, to defend my character and politics, and often included over the top (sometimes unwarranted) praise. He was funny, clever, and refreshing to be around. And I was honored that he chose my portrait of him as his last album cover.

He will be missed by millions, including myself. Sending my love to Jan and his family.

As per Yahoo!, People, etc.

33-year-old Riley Keogh and her husband since 2015 Ben Smith-Peterson confirmed at the funeral of her mother Lisa Marie Presley on Sunday that they've had a daughter who was born sometime in 2022!

The exact date of her birth and even her name have not been released as of today January 24,2023.

Yes, that means that Priscilla and her late husband Elvis Presley have a great-granddaughter!

Good for them for keeping it secret for so long and not exploiting their child for money. It can be done!

I agree and it helps that Miss Keogh's husband has two rather frequently used surnames so they could pick one for their daughter to use and that would help cut down her exposure to the limelight.

I hope this baby brought some joy in the last part of Miss Presley's life and I hope she brings comfort to the rest of Miss Presley's grieving family!

Why a surrogate? She was too vain to be pregnant?

According to the People article, she had started in vitro during the COVID lockdown and had a bunch of frozen eggs/embryos.

What usually happens is the specialist transfers an embryo or two to the biological mother and then waits to see if conception occurs.  However, at her age, if she didn't get pregnant within the first several tries, the odds that she was going to be able to conceive and carry a pregnancy were very low.

At that point, the fertility specialist would often suggest considering a gestational surrogate; a younger woman to carry one of her and her husband's embryos.

IMO, it's most likely that they tried in vitro using Paris' uterus and it didn't work, so they moved on to the  next option.

True story: For about a month after seeing Salem's Lot, I had a crucifix facing my bedroom window.  That way if any vampires came a tap-tap-tapping, it would see it and go.  R.I.P. Mr. Kerwin.

I remember an interview he did when they changed it from James at 15 to James at 16.   He said something along the lines of "Oh yeah, we are going to update it every year.   James at 72."   Sadly that never happened.

My older sister had a HUGE crush on him back in the day.   I reached for my phone to text her and then remembered I can't anymore since she passed in 2021.

To this very day, the thought of that scene gives me the shivers.  When I saw it back in the day, it was the scariest thing I had ever seen on tv.  Why the hell a coward like me watched a Steven King miniseries about vampires is beyond my comprehension.

He was a big youth star in the 70s.  Salem’s Lot is one of my favorite youth movies (ie I loved it when I was a kid).  Mostly because of David Soul, but Lance did an excellent job.  That was one creepy movie (much better than the remake).

The article claims he had suffered from health problems.  I’m sorry to hear that.  RIP Mr. Kerwin.

Jay Leno is either being willingly ignorant, has a death wish or both. With all of the cars he has I think at over 70 now he can stop with the motorcycle riding.

Jay Leno Broke His Collarbone, Ribs and Kneecaps in Motorcycle Crash Last Week

I think he may have reached that stage in life common to many older men I know who are no longer up to what they used to do but are not quite ready to accept or able to compute that fact.

What a freak accident for Leno; from that linked article:

Quote

According to Leno, he was on the road testing a vintage 1940 Indian motorcycle when he noticed the scent of leaking gas and decided to pull over to investigate.

"So I turned down a side street and cut through a parking lot, and unbeknownst to me, some guy had a wire strung across the parking lot but with no flag hanging from it," he explained to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "So, you know, I didn't see it until it was too late. It just clothesline me and, boom, knocked me off the bike. The bike kept going, and you know how that works out."

This amused me:

Quote

The former Tonight Show host told the outlet that he didn't make his accident public knowledge at first because there was so much chaos and coverage from his prior November incident.

"You know, after getting burned up, you get that one for free," he said, then joking: "After that, you're Harrison Ford, crashing airplanes. You just want to keep your head down."

In fairness, if it's true that some pinhead strung a wire or rope across the parking lot without marking with flags to warn people, it's less about a stage of life and more about gross negligence.

He comes off as incredibly resilient.

True. I hadn't actually read the article when I commented. (Which is always dangerous online. LOL) I was just mainly objecting to the characterization that he automatically must be ignorant or suicidal. I'm not a Leno fan, but that seemed overly either/or to me.

I hadn't seen the ignorant/suicidal thing, so we're both guilty I guess, lol. Don't know how I missed Jaded's comment. 🤷‍♀️

Questions: has 'some guy' who Mr. Leno claimed to have strong a wire across his property line been named and are the authorities investigating?

If what Mr. Leno's saying is true, then charges need to be pressed because via neglecting to flag said wire, that person endangered the lives of every cyclist who would have not been able to see it!

Annie Wersching Dies: Actress In ‘24’, ‘Bosch’ And ‘Timeless’ Was 45
https://deadline.com/2023/01/annie-wersching-dies-actress-in-24-bosch-and-timeless-was-45-obituary-1235243778/

Jesus, 45!  Fucking cancer.  She leaves behind two kids, the youngest only four.  That's awful.

I didn't recognize the name, but when I saw her picture I immediately recognized her from an episode of Major Crimes (for any viewers, she was the FBI agent in season five's "Foreign Affairs", the one where the murder was staged to look like an ISIS killing [for non-viewers, it's better than it sounds, I swear]).  She was good in that.

I saw Annie Wersching most recently in Bosch but that was a few years ago.  The article I read said she was diagnosed in 2020, when her youngest child was just a toddler.  So sad.  What does her husband do?  Is he an actor as well?

According to imdb, she was married to actor Stephen Full (since 2009).  I looked him up. He doesn't look familiar, but I noticed that he has guested on some shows that I've watched.

I know she had had a tough adolescence and early adulthood, but  I somehow thought she'd be around longer.

Now only John Astin b.March,1930 (Gomez) survives of the cast!

Motown hitmaker Barrett Strong dies at 81.

Quote

Strong had yet to turn 20 when he agreed to let his friend Gordy, in the early days of building a recording empire in Detroit, manage him and release his music. Within a year, he was a part of history as the piano player and vocalist for “Money,” a million-seller released early in 1960 and Motown’s first major hit...the Whitfield-Strong team turned out hard-hitting and topical works, along with such timeless ballads as “I Wish It Would Rain” and “Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me).” With “I Heard it Through the Grapevine,” they provided an up-tempo, call-and-response hit for Gladys Knight and the Pips and a dark, hypnotic ballad for Marvin Gaye, his 1968 version one of Motown’s all-time sellers.

I never stopped to wonder about who wrote so many of the songs performed by The Temptations and others that were the background of my life in my teens, often giving words and music to our angst of the times of the Draft and the Recession, and just teenage heartbreak.
May he and his fellow-Motown lyricists at least receive appropriate posthumous tributes now. 🙏
