I hope Will Forte shows up so they can do either Jon Bovi or the ESPN Classic guys. Or do both of them.

I never root for a Kristen Wiig cameo but if I could get 2 Assholes again, I would.

I like Sudeikis and all, and I was genuinely excited for this episode, but so far, this is really not my humour!

The Mellen thing was unexpected though.  Lol.

The Math Teacher sketch with Ego was okay too, I guess.  But man I don't care for potty humour.   And what even kind of humour was that Annie sketch?  Cannibalism humour?  Maybe Sudeikis was always like this?

I am losing my MIND excited over Kieran Culkin being the next host.

So far my very favorite thing is Jason getting a little sentimental in the monologue.

I thought he was going to get choked up for a second.

That was really some twist in the Annie sketch.

What Up With That makes up for what has surprisingly been a rather average show otherwise.

What Up With That never fails to make me smile.  And tonight, I was laughing like a lunatic through most of it.

I thought it was an enjoyable show.  Loved to see how much Jason seemed to be thrilled to be there.  The monologue was really touching, as were the goodbyes.

I thought the parent/teacher meeting was great, and the last sketch riffing on "Indecent Proposal" was silly fun.

Not the greatest show ever, but better than most.  Oh, and you can't go wrong with Brandi Carlisle.

It makes sense since his brother was there, too. He was also in a recurring sketch called Da Bears, which always features George Wendt and Robert Smigel..Macauley Culkin hosted SNL back in 1991! You think they will show that episode....?

A new Twitter account popped up in September and they shared this clip of Macaulay:

Thank you for sharing this.  I love the Culkins so much.

I thought this was a good episode! Surprised to see others didn't like it.

For a second I thought the cold open was going to be A Xmas Carol, with Biden past, present, and future and some kind of transfomration at the end. It wasn't that, but I liked it. New Guy's impression has improved, and the contrast with the other versions worked for me. They missed an opportunity to do more with Jen Psaki, but I hope introducing her will pique enough interest that more people will watch her pressers, so if they do another sketch where she's the focus, more people will enjoy it.

I don't always like humor based on adults getting frustrated with kids, but I appreciated the science sketch because... it's been that kind of week where screaming at the clueless and disruptive is a strong urge I've been trying to squelch. Catharsis via SNL is welcome.

Loved Mellen/Ellen For Men.

Parents Night... I mean, there really wasn't anything to it other than "Ego and Jason Chemistry Showcase". They could have just said: "go up there and show us the heat" and not bothered with the story.

Men's underwear... I take it this is something that being a lesbian protected me from knowing about guys, and I am grateful for the freedom not to know it.

WU was WU. I enjoyed the Devil.

WUWT was better than I remember it being.

It really is a crazy idea that there'd be a treasure map on the back of the Declaration. "It's not for babies!" Well, okay then! But seriously-- go ahead and mock us-- as a nation. collectively we deserve it.

When I saw the bar, I was dreading it being another one of the "closing time" sketches. I just really didn't want to see another one of those. Was so relieved it wasn't that, that I can't evaluate whether it was actually funny what they did instead, or if I was just so relieved that anything would have been good.

I didn't think I was in a good mood tonight, so I guess I genuinely liked this one, and wasn't just primed to laugh at anything.

The character’s knee may be wonky but Jason still had the moves for ‘What’s Up With That’ including the height he got while leaping from out of frame/off-camera.

That said, I was even more excited to see The Devil.

Also, the media is obsessed with making power rankings of the Succession characters each week, so I’ll say that Nicholas Braun appearing before Kiernan hosts is a total power move, especially since it presumes that Cousin Greg is a recognizable enough character to be a Halloween costume.  (J Smith-Cameron has had a TON of press coverage recently so I’m betting we will get a Geri cameo when Kiernan hosts.)

Have two relatives ever separately hosted before?  None spring to mind.

I thought Jason and the cast’s sheer enthusiasm carried a lot of the material — none of which was overly weak but not incredibly great either.  Lots of them seemed better on paper than execution.  The parent teacher conference was probably my favorite.

I had heard of Brandi Carlisle but had never heard her - that second song was absolutely amazing.

I missed whatever he appeared in -- which sketch?

Did they show the names for next week's rerun episode?  I know it's too much to hope for the Tom Hanks Halloween episode...

Yes. From what I heard, that second song was incredible.

The show was good. No big complaints. I just didn't get much of a Wow factor like last week except for Jason's sentimentality and of course What Up With That.

In Jason's goodbye, I thought the "you can go home again, and it's actually very nice" had a layer or two to unpack, but again he was obviously feeling the moment.

George Wendt is Jason Sudeikis’ uncle, so I’d have loved to see them together for that sketch.

What Up With That always makes me laugh. Especially Jason jumping in and Fred Armisen on the sax. Even though the title is What Up, they always say What’s. And Keenan is the best.

I’ve always loved Sudeikis, and I really enjoyed the episode. The writing is tighter than last season, and the sketches are more fun, somehow…?

Even though he was a cast member, Jason is the second member of his family to host SNL. The first was his uncle, George Wendt. Fun fact!

Owen and Luke Wilson.

Dakota Johnson and Melanie Griffith.

Kirk and Michael Douglas.

Eli and Peyton Manning.

I thought it was a good episode, as a whole - the pre-tapes and the Annie sketch (which was just too long and focused so much on the singing that the shock of what Daddy Warbucks was doing underwhelmed) aside, I enjoyed everything. I was thrilled they opened with such a short, coherent Biden reunion sketch (marrying the two Biden eras just right), the very heartfelt monologue that felt like a love letter to fans, etc. The teacher sketch was one of my  favorites of the season and a good example of how great Ego is and how much she has grown to the point where she was more than a match for Jason at peak powers.

I was a little sorry that other than Fred (who was kind enough to just do one part and not pop up in 4-5  things) we did not get any other cast members who were close to him in his era, but at least this gave Jason more time to play with the current, very large cast.  He fit right in.

SNL put the two Update commentaries on Youtube, which they very rarely do. I like them both ("Cauldron Ghost" indeed) but Melissa's is the one I wish they'd aired. It is one of the best things she has done eon the show. I would have trimmed a little of The Devil return, which was good, but didn't really get going until near the end with his hilarious roasting of Colin.

It wasn't mentioned in the episode,  but this was the episode where Colin surpassed Seth as longest-running Update anchor of all time.

Jason S has always been “generic white guy” to me on SNL. Never seen Ted Lasso, but I imagine he is the same there, and that show is as inexplicable a hit as Schlitt’s Creek, the broadest, most predictable sitcom since According to Jim. But I digress.

The monologue was just weird, with its switch from mild comedy to sudden seriousness. And pretty much every skit after that, Jason S seemed off. His science teacher should have been more unhinged, his Annie character should have been darker, his kindergarten character should have been more over the top rico suave, etc. I guess that’s a range issue, or just poor takes.

Overall, it felt like all the skits missed because the host’s take wasn’t quite right.

WU was on fire, though. “Wal-Mart shoppers,” heh.

P.S. OK, his red track suit guy was alright.

I don’t remember Jason on SNL, so you are probably right there, but Ted Lasso is far from predictable and Ted himself has so many layers we are just learning about.  I started it sceptical.  First episode wasn’t terrible so I watched the second.  Then the third. Then it was 3 am and I had finished season 1.

Jason gives a master class on a host acting like there aren’t actually cue cards. I don’t know that the material was elevated to what I expected for him, but I still enjoyed the heck out of seeing him on there!

I can never take my eyes off Jason’s dancing during WUWT. So fun to have again.

Weekend Update was outstanding, and loved the Devil. Possibly unpopular opinion, but I love Guy Who Just Bought a Boat. Bad puns are my thing, and this sketch always brings an unbelievable number of bad sex puns per minute.

Jason made the new Biden portrayer look like a bad joke. Poor guy.

And just like Ellen, Mellen can't dance. 😌

I actually gasped at what the Devil said about Disney and Scarlett Johansson.

I thought this was a great episode and that Jason elevated every sketch he was in.

What Up With That! That sketch is classic and this one topped all of them. Did anyone (besides me) LOL at Steve Bartman showing up? It's been 18 years, but Steve, no we have NOT forgiven you.

I forgot to mention the Annie sketch earlier. I was enjoying it at first, wondering where it was headed, but I didn't really like the answer. I have no problem thinking Daddy W is up to no good, but... I dunno. Curated cannibalism just didn't seem funny to me.

Meh, IMO, maybe especially when compared to last week's episode. I did like "What's Up"... and it was fun seeing Isaac Oscar/Oscar Isaac (???) out of his Scenes character, but it made me wish they had also done one last week when Lindsey Buckingham was there.
Ego is always SO good. WU = always good. Cecily's expressions in the Science sketch were hilarious. Not feeling the new Biden impersonation.

Melissa was beyond adorable in that one.

In the Casino Proposal sketch, Kenan just coming out with those glasses and saying "Rough night?" was enough to sell me on the rest of the sketch.

Andrew in the Declaration sketch was a highlight for me.

This episode and last week's were both a lot of goofy fun, so I'm hoping that continues.

Don’t think they’d do it two weeks in a row, so it probably came down to would you rather have Lindsey sitting there quietly, or Jason dancing?  (And this assumes Lindsey agreeing to do it.)

My vote would be for Lindsey. I love the running gag of there being no time for him and I'm not a big Jason fan.

They posted the dress rehearsal version of Science Room on YouTube and it's better than what aired - at the end Melissa accidentally mispronounces the kid's name and Jason runs with it.  You can see everyone else starting to break.

Here it is.

What Did Steve Bartman Do ?

Google "Steve Bartman" and you'll find all kinds of articles about him. There even was a movie, "Steve Bartman: Catching Hell." The Cubs were heading for their first World Series in more than 100 years when Bartman interfered with a fly ball that Moises Alou was going to catch to end the Marlins at bat. Immediately afterward, Bartman had to be escorted by police out of Wrigley Field after being pelted with garbage by fans, and getting death threats that continued well after that ballgame. After the Bartman event, the Cubs fell apart and Marlins won. It took the Cubs 13 years to recover.

In the WUWT sketch, Bartman came in holding a baseball while Kenan sang "Steve Bartman, you are forgiven."

Is it just me, or does that new impression seem to come really close to Nicholas Cage several times each skit? It's the way he lets each sentence end in a sort of hiss. I keep expecting Biden to talk about stealing the U.S. Constitution.

I thought they were leading up to a reveal that Jason was Warbucks' procurer and Annie was intended as a trafficking victim, so when it turned out that Daddy Warbucks had a cannibalism club that had nothing to do with Annie it seemed like an unnecessary distraction. Maybe if the cannibalism had been an escalation from a series of more plausible crimes it would have worked better. And I thought Jason's crimes should have been the focus of the song instead of having the split between the song and the legit staff and then whatever Jason was.

I've heard Biden make that sound quite often lately, though, when he's talking. He's kind of got a mush mouth lately. It wasn't always so. I also think the way New Guy holds his mouth is dead on for the impression. Biden's way more animated, though. The impression needs to flow more.
