Game of Boyles

So much beige. Must be a Boyle episode. Love how weird everyone is. Boyle Family Zooms last for seven hours, they hug for six minutes, they drink nutria milk and they give HJs to each other. (head job massages! What were you thinking?). That was the Schrute Farms set, right? I don't know too much of Office trivia, but I know that set pops up in a few shows (It was in Parks & Rec, for one). And hold up, Charles WASN'T a Boyle this whole time?! Definitely a plot twist.

"He went through puberty at 13, and not 25 like a normal Boyle!"

"HOW DO I GET HOT TODD BACK?!" One of the times I miss Gina being around is giving Holt dating app advice, knowing the difference between "dang" and "daaaaang" seemed more in her wheelhouse than Rosa's.

And the dads are back together! In the rain! And they kissed! All is right in the world again.

Renewal

Dad Wedding episode is here!! Hell yeah! The wedding was perfect. Loved Holt and Kevin getting their vows renewed in their fake uniforms. Also, don't mess with Cheddar. Loved seeing him get the spotlight this week.

And...Holt's retiring?! Hell nah! I was scared for a moment. Of course he remembers the entirety of the tax code pertaining to marriage, but not the names of anyone's kids. Like Mac.

Oh god, O'Sullivan is an Islanders fan?! I was right, he IS the biggest villain of the show. I'd have pegged him as a Rangers fan. And somehow got elected union rep for life. Well, that's the NYPD for you. At least the reform program is a go! With Amy getting promoted!

Loved, LOVED Holt acting out the porno talk to O'Sullivan's mom. I CACKLED when he made the noise (reminded me of the time he ate the marshmallow). It's absolutely criminal that Andre Braugher never won an emmy for this show.

So Jake invests in crypto AND TMNT NFTs? Oh, you poor soul.

Next week CAN'T be the end...can it? I don't want it to be so. (EDIT: It's not! It's in two weeks! Somehow.)

Well, damn, we actually got real PDA from Holt and Kevin, not just a passionate handshake!

Both episodes were great, but the vow renewal was so epic. Rosa and Cheddar’s staredown! Holt pulling porno talk on O’Sullivan’s mom! Kevin disguising as a cop! The callbacks to “BOOOOONE” and Sgt. Peanut Butter! And who would’ve thought Cheddar was such a vengeful bitch!

I guess Holt and Amy joining police reform sinks my theory about all of them quitting for the finale. I can’t believe we don’t get a new episode batch next week, it just skips to the finale next week. We should’ve had more episodes!

The one true Boyle! is the Boyle who didn't have puberty at 25.

Holt and Kevin's wedding. Yay. And you know how important the ceremony and relationship was to Holt when he purged a section of the tax code from his brain.

Oh, my!  I have no idea how this didn't get slapped a TV-MA rating with how graphic it got.  Holt and Kevin actually kissing?  In the rain?!  What do they think they are, HBO?!!  Think of the children, NBC!!!

On a more serious note, I'm glad Jake and Amy's dads finally seem to have gotten over their hurtles and have found a good compromise with Holt still being in law enforcement, but not letting it take priority over his relationship with Kevin.  While I do think it was great that Holt was willing to retire to save his marriage, I do think a part of him would have always felt off over leaving the way he would, and I'm glad that Kevin knew that and just wanted to find a way to balance things out instead.  And, hey, they finally got to renew their vows and it was as amazing as I hoped it would be!

So, Charles isn't a Boyle by blood after-all.  But he still proves himself to the one true Boyle, which makes sense because no one will ever, ever out Boyle Charles Boyle!

Don't let that happy, cute face fool you: Cheddar don't mess around!  Rosa got to learn that the hard way!

Only thing more entertaining then Amy actually freezing up after hearing Holt was retiring is Terry having to carry her rigid body around.

It probably won't happen sadly, but Andre Braugher really does deserve that Emmy.  He's always been great but he really has been bringing it home this final season.

Looks like the reform is happening (of course, O'Sullivan continues to fall upwards.  Sigh...), and both Holt and Amy will get promotions because of it.  Judging from the final scene, I'm still thinking this is going to end with Jake leaving the force to either be a stay at home dad or find a job that will allow him to be there for Mac (remember that name, Holt!) more, since it looks like Amy's job will make her busier.

Can't believe we're almost at the end!  I"m not sure I'm ready for it!

Holt turning on the charm as a sexy repairman was the best. Jake’s reactions were perfect too. I don’t believe that Holt wouldn’t know Mac’s name, but I do think it’s cute he calls him “Little Guy.”

My only complaint about the vow renewal is that there should have been a balloon arch! Otherwise, it was perfect!

In the first episode it bothered me that Charles would act like his family isn’t really his family if they aren’t related by blood. He has an adopted son! I kept waiting for him to realize of course he’s still a Boyle, just like Nikolaj is a Boyle. But instead they went with the Excalibur bread starter.

They set up the Excalibur bread starter too neatly.  As soon as we found out Charles was not biologically a Boyle, I knew he was going to be the One True Boyle who could open the jar.

Never mess with Cheddar. Behind that cute face lurks the brain of a diabolical mastermind...

Holt and Kevin doing a big kiss in the rain was everything I dreamed of and more, I was basically Scully standing their under his umbrella tearing up. I am really glad that they talked things through and while its sweet that Holt was willing to retire to fully focus on his marriage, Kevin I am glad that he is sticking around to continue try to keep his police reform going. I feel like Holt would regret it if he left the NYPD right now with so much he still wants to do, and I am glad that he and Kevin actually talked about it and what they both want moving forward. Plus, Kevin got to join in the hijinks, this is why you tell your spouse things. Their ceremony was really sweet and very them. "I was going for whimsical...now I'm questioning everything." It also led to some nice scenes between Jake and Holt, especially when Jake was telling Holt how talking with Amy always makes things clearer. I wonder if they are heading for Jake becoming a stay at home dad or joining Rosa's detective agency where he would have more flexible hours so he can take care of Mac.

There are tons of laugh out loud hilarious moments, but its hard to beat Holt as the sexy handyman. Possibly Terry carrying Amy around after she went into shock realizing that Holt was retiring and then her asking him to do it again. Its comforting!

We also find out that Boyle is not, in fact, a bio Boyle. He went through puberty at 13, not 25, the signs were all there! I kept waiting for someone to point out that Nikolaj isn't biologically related to Charles and that he loves him just as much as any biological parent would, but at the end Charles still got proof that he is still the most Boyle Boyle to ever Boyle, regardless of blood relation.

I cant believe that we are so close to the end of the show, I am so not even close to ready.

I think my favorite bit by far was Holt scrolling thru the dating app and rejected all the profiles for various offenses like "shirt untucked" "born in San Diego? No thank you" and "An adult named Todd?" It made it just that much more hilarious when his date turned out to be Todd.

I don't get Boyle not actually being a Boyle biologically but also being the "one true Boyle" at the same time.

I'm sorry, but the Boyle family is just too damn weird. They remind me of the McPoyle family on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

The vow renewal was everything I wanted. Cheddar in a bowtie was adorable. Jake got to work one last epic case with Holt.

I have a question (and roll with it, it's TV is a totally acceptable answer)-If Jake was suspended for five months, why was Mac still going to daycare? Did they pay for the entire year at once so it didn't make sense not to take advantage of it?

It would be awesome to have a series of short webisodes about what Jake did to entertain himself while Mac was at daycare.

I love that Jake has always been supportive of Amy and knew from early on that eventually she would outrank him, and he was totally okay with that. It's great that with an even more substantial promotion, his views haven't changed.

I didn't think about it during the episode, but it does make me wonder what Jake does all day during his suspension?

With most daycares Mac would lose his place if they pulled him out and then they'd have to find a new daycare all over again in 5 months. Plus kids do better with routines and pulling him out would just be disruptive.

I don't get why Jake and Terry didn't want to tell Boyle that they got the lab results back.  Just tell him that truth about the hair belonging to the nutria and leave the part about him not biologically being a Boyle out.  Also, why was the lab comparing all the Boyle hairs to each other?  Wouldn't they only be seeing if they matched with the hair found on the poison?  Seeing if they all genetically matched each other would have been an entirely different test, right?

And yeah, I'm assuming Jake will become a stay-at-home dad so the "last day" in question from the title of the next episode is referring to him.

He said he was playing some sort of online farming game.

Question: When Holt was looking at dating sights, Rosa had to tell him "PHDs only" in that context stood for "pretty huge dick." Then Holt said he assumed "MDs only" stood for "medium dick." Is that right or does MDs actually stand for something else dirty? Or does it really stand for MDs as in doctors? I feel like I missed the joke because I honestly do not know.

No, I don't see Jake quitting the force, he loves his job too much, just as much as Amy does. He was going stir crazy during his suspension.

I have never heard of nutrias before. Ugh.

A better ending would be if Nikolaj was the one to open it, making him the One True Boyle.

Another option: Gina shows up at the last minute and opens the jar without knowing what it means.

Some people think daycare is better developmentally than being with a parent all day.

I really couldn't get past the "not a Boyle" idea. It was so insulting to adoptees, and even worse when Charles has an adopted son. No one could have said "of course you're a Boyle"? I get they thought the Excaliber thing was payoff, but it wasn't worth it for me. If his family needed the jar to prove he was one of them? Just no.

Correct me if I'm wrong as I haven't re-watched the episodes in awhile but when Charles and Gina's parents were together, weren't he and the other Boyle cousins acting as if Gina was one of them?  So they'd consider someone who married in as an adult a "Boyle cousin" but Charles finding out he has a different bio dad at age 50 suddenly means he's not a Boyle?

Damn. Charles's line about twice-removed Boyles being total clown shows was so savage, with cousin Andrea just standing there and knowing what he is. Best moment of this week's episodes for me.

When Andrea was standing there and agreed, I just cracked up. Don't know why, but it was so funny.

I think it was just the shock. Given time, I think Boyle would have realized he was a Boyle, as was Nikolaj. All the cousins would have seen that, too.

I loved both eps. I was laughing out loud several times all by myself. (I wish I had someone to watch with.)

Holt was the best, and in both eps.

Holt: Close the door, Diaz. I'm removing my collar stays.

Holt: Born in San Diego. Yikes! An adult named Todd?

Holt: How do I get hot Todd back?

Holt: I'm going to the bathroom to wash my hands… in case we shake.

Todd: Ooo, I love chess. Have you seen The Queen's Gambit? It's a TV show.
Holt: Todd I swear to God.

I admit I teared up when we see Kevin running in the rain calling out Raymond's name. The kiss was epic.

In the second ep, I loved seeing the clip of their first wedding with the hurried vows.

Everything with Cheddar was wonderful.

Holt: Bone? BONE!? BOOOONNNNNNE!???! Cheddar is not some street rat.

Holt doing the porn talk with O'Sullivan's mom was hilarious.

Mom: Get down in the basement.
Holt: Well, I always like going down.

Terry picking up Amy like a piece of furniture was hilarious. I loved when Terry was talking to both of them at the same time and making a difference.

So much fun. I'll miss this show.

Nutria milk. Please tell me that's not really a thing. 😝

MD = medium dick. Good to know.

OMG, Jake doing Daniel Craig's Knives Out accent. How did he make it sound even worse?

Normal from snout to anus.

Aw, Holt & Kevin reuniting in the rain. I'm not crying, you're crying!

Is there a reason they kept mentioning Nancy Meyers? This wasn't the rom-com episode, the second one was.

You can't get knocked up by numbers, Amy.

A BONE?!!!??!?! Cheddar's not some street rat!

Cheddar also has discerning tastes in vases.

Lol, "Maxwell Maxwell" working his masculine wiles on O'Sullivan's mother. And her being into it.

Cheddar thinks shrimp is bougie. I know that's right, Cheddar.😝

Cheddar to Rosa: Yeah, you fcuked around and found out.

Congrats, Amy. And cha-ching!

1000% Schrute Farms. Both Dwight and Charles have weird families and will milk about anything with nipples. They also seem to both have a tradition of handling deceased loved ones without outside assistance (like embalming and burying 🥴

I think the Boyle Farm was Mindy St Clair's house from The Good Place.

The earlier version of Schrute Farms (a la Schrute BnB) was filmed at Disney's Golden Oak Ranch in Olivia's house (pictured a post above). White with green trim, wrap around porch, and a gray roof. https://goldenoakranch.com/the-location/olivias-house/.

Season 9 (and I think 8 for Garden Party) was a different house. Here's a bad shot, but you can see the house, trim and roof are all different colors.

Here's the house from The Good Place.

I guess this house is filmed pretty regularly in tv and movies. Here's the same house from a Progressive Commercial. (It's the one where the Progressive gang comes out of a corn field.)

I'm a few weeks behind because I've purposely been rationing the final episodes ...

When Holt was saved by his husband at the end of "Renewal", I really thought he would be angry.  He was surprised to hear Kevin's voice, and while he had obviously called Kevin, he wasn't expecting him to show up.  The Holt that we know and love SHOULD have been mad that his husband was impersonating a police officer, even if it got him out of the situation.
