FJ was an instaget.

I got the missed clues of Death on the Nile, Public enemy number 1 and umber.

I got the entire categories of book titles, pre-historic, 1,2 and Biblical women right.

Instaget FJ for me, then I spent about 20 seconds trying to figure out if there was a connection between the two.  I'd never heard of one, but she was the only person who made sense.  

I also got the TS of Death on the Nile, autocorrect, quarter, Public Enemy Number One, and giant.

I had to laugh at Michael Caine being identified as Mick Jagger.

That’s how I initially got both pilot and xylem, from the descriptive part of the clue. Then I had time to “confirm” them with the code. Not enough time to recover in the other two once my initial guess proved wrong. Call this a wacky way to get at the middle-ish of the code, but I remembered that Password bonus rounds with 10 words beginning with subsequent letters were most often A-J, so J=10. I wouldn’t have had a prayer otherwise - I’d’ve had to do ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP.

An acquaintance once spent an entire (one day) cricket match chatting to "some guy" at the bar (from where you could watch the match), wondering why her friends didn't join them.  "What was he like, what was he like?" they demanded after the guy left.  Turns out it was Mick Jagger - she had no idea who he was.  I'm sure he was grateful for the normalcy and lack of fawning.

Archive game for me due to basketball preemption.  I knew Arizona &New Mexico just based on the text, so add me to the list appalled that, with a map, that was worth $1200.

The auto-correct TS really surprised me, and I don't even have a smartphone.

I only ran knights and the vocabulary category in the first round, but I got all but one in texting and one, two.  I missed two each in the others.

Brace yourselves for the shock, but I was terrible in the biblical women category -- I only got Jezebel (I don't know how I managed to miss Pharaoh, but I did).  I missed three in history, but otherwise had a good DJ -- I ran code and rock docs and got all but one in astronomy (I could not pull parallax from my brain), and missed two in finance.

FJ was an instaget.

I got FJ easily. Keaton=comedy, mentors a woman during her early career who is ultimately a TV Legend. I quickly wrote down Lucille Ball. After I wrote it, I did have a brief idea that perhaps it could have been Imogene Coca; similar age group, TV comedy legend, yet not as well-known nowadays, so I stuck with Lucy.

Mayim complaints of the day: 1) Mazin finds the DD in the Jeopardy Round. He has $800.00. Mayim says, "You have $800. How much would you like to wager?" Mazin responds, "$1,000.00?" I just don't get it. How hard is it for her to say, "You have $800. You can wager up to a thousand." When she doesn't say it, it makes it seem as if the contestant has to ask permission to do what THEY know is allowed under the rules! Why is she not improving at this?

2) In the One, Two category, Eric says, "Two step" in response to the clue, "The basic movement in this numeric Lone Star State dance is 'Quick-quick, slow, slow." I think a BMS should have been requested by Mayim. To me, the clue phrasing asks you to name the state in addition to the dance. The full name of the dance is the Texas Two Step.

#2 didn't bother me as much as #1 did.

ETA: I can't explain the lack of BMS, but the lack of "You can wager up to $1000" is probably because nobody wrote it into her script so she can act it out.

Michael Caine/Mick Jagger made my husband snort wine out of his nose.

I was having a bit of trouble following the game because I kept getting distracted by the dance-off between Mayim and Mazin. I’m not making fun of Mazin, because I assume it was a nervous tic, but he kept twisting back and forth at his podium, and sometimes this would be followed by a shot of Mayim giggling and twisting, and all I could think was, Where is Chubby Checker when you need him?

I like to pre-guess FJ. So I sat there thinking Andy Griffith, Michael Landon, Mr Rogers etc and then did not get Lucille Ball. What made me the maddest was that I had watched a biopic on her and Desi just last week.

Mick Jagger?! I just...how...what? I'm going to guess they got stuck on the Micklewhite part of Caine's birth name. But still. Yeesh.

ETA: Michael Caine was beautiful when he was younger. The same cannot be said about Jagger.

Yes, it even was abbreviated GFY and was a big part of the lexicon here. When Ken started hosting, he said "Good for you" after one interview and posted about it afterward on his Twitter. He knew exactly what he had done and it was a big deal for him, he was up front that he "stole" it from Trebek. He's maybe said it one other time since. Ken is way up on the GFY meaning too.

Yesterday Mayim told one contestant's story completely before she let the contestant speak, then made the contestant repeat everything Mayim had already said. It was sad for me to see that player not be able to even tell her own story. I strongly dislike Mayim's faux interview skills and sitcom canned laughter at everything.

I've seen every episode of I Love Lucy. When I shared a motel room with friends, I made them watch I Love Lucy instead of shows they wanted. They called me "Lucy" for the rest of the weekend.

This weekend one of the channels here ran several eps of ILL in a row. Of course, I was tuned in for the duration! And oh yeah, got FJ too.

I thought FJ was very likely to be about Watergate when the category came up.  I almost talked myself out of the correct response because I thought it could be something one of Nixon's lawyers said instead of the man himself, but in lieu of any other hint in the clue, I decided to apply Occam's razor.

Same principle in the clue yesterday about a silent film actor knighted near the place of his birth.  I was considering many options and then I thought, a British silent film actor, who are they probably asking about?

Anyway, I liked Eric plenty, but I'm glad to see Megan win.  I'm just tired of runaway after runaway from superchamps.  I think I prefer a horse race.

Ugh, I started off so badly. Out of the 15 clues before the first break, I got six. (Also I turned on the TV to the news starting and I freaked out for a few seconds before I figured out that it was on the wrong channel, so that didn't help.) After the break it did not get better. Missed one each in Moral and Money, two in 1800s and Sun Up, and four in the others (apparently I am not Clever enough for these Crosswords).

Managed to do even worse in the second round. Thank you to Billy Joel for allowing me to not completely tank the music category. (If I'd had another second or two to throw out grunge band names I would have gotten to Pearl Jam, too.)

Got the TSes of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (after saying LA and correcting myself) and gel and the missed DD of manatee.

FJ was an instaget, at least. Then I questioned it because it felt too easy, but I couldn't think of anyone else so I stuck with it. (That was 3 years before I was born.)

I got the TS of RSPCA, which I believe was the first clue, and surprised that none of them got it. Ran the moral of the fable category, and all but one clue in the "3 letter words with e in the middle" category. Got FJ and Nixon was first to pop into my mind, but I was in h.s. in 1972. Impressed that one contestant recalled "cuneiform" so quickly. Happy to see a new champion. I think a run of 5 games is more than enough, although I did like Ryan and happy that his winnings are going to make a huge difference in his life.

I said Kissinger.  I realy felt it had to be somebody talking to Nixon rather than being as obvious as Nixon himself.

We don't know for sure, but this is what Ken tweeted out back in May. From the wording, I'd say he won't be back until at least sometime in July. 😔

Season ends on July 29, so after this week there are only 6 weeks left.

I'm guessing Mayim will finish the month of June at the very least.

I didn't clue in based on the year alone, but when I heard the quote together with the year, I went through a similar thought process. Could it be Nixon? Is that too obvious for FJ? The clue was clearly referring to Watergate....but is it really as straightforward as to be Nixon? Someone else in the administration?

At the end of the day, Nixon was the only thing I could come up with. I was a bit surprised two of them missed it, but I suppose they also thought it was too obvious.

I've wondered about that possibility too.  Aside from my opinion as a viewer, if I were the affiliates, I'd be spitting mad to see that change, especially after the increased buildup under the new EP.  I really don't think the producers would risk their inevitable wrath, but who knows?  As much as I'd like easier access to the tournament, it seems only right for it to be on "same time, same station."

I seem to have almost as many questions as are posed in this show that supposedly revolves around questions and not filler.

The "birds of a feather flock together" TS surprised me, as did no one figuring out what RSPCA stands for, since we have the ASPCA here, with the SPCA standing for the same thing.

If it wasn't for the TV category, I'd have only missed three in the entire first round, but I didn't know a single show.

I did well in DJ, running three categories, getting all but one in another, and missing two each in the rest.

FJ was another instaget, but, like many of you, I second guessed myself that it couldn't be that obvious.

Usually  in such cases "colorful" appears inside quotation marks. Sometimes, though, it doesn't, as here. 

I'm often unhappy with their use or non-use of quotation marks.

I took it to mean they were doing their homework at 4 AM, not that the class met then. And that they were kneeling on the floor using the bunk as a desk.

Kit Nixon? (Sorry, couldn't resist.) I did the same second-guessing as many of you, but thought the other Watergate-related names would have been considered too obscure. Kissinger didn't occur to me.

In "the moral of the fable" category: Q: "Don't" do this was learned when an accident ruined a girl's plans for a poultry empire A: "(don't) count your chickens before they're hatched". I said "(don't) put all your eggs in one basket". Sigh. I guess that's a different fable??

Like the retired college prof., as a retired college librarian I was hit by the "burden of knowledge" for FJ and rejected Nixon for Haldeman. 
I would have liked to see a still-quick old prof win, but I really liked everything about Megan and look forward to seeing her until we are tired of her, LOL.

SPCA was an instaget of unambiguity.
I also got "gel" and a few other TSs. 

I'm 99% sure Eric pronounced Kamehameha as Ke-ha-me-a, and when there was no correction from the judges, I wondered if that meant he had lost for the day. 
Do they retroactively do those edits? 
Mom and Dad lived on the Big Island for the last 30 years of their 67 year marriage, so the name of Kamehameha is as familiar to me as Washington.
