Episode Discussion II: The TFGH

Culture Check: How can we discuss a character's or actor's appearance without objectifying them? How can we express likes or dislikes and still respect an individual's humanity or be mindful that a character represents a person someone else might relate to or identify with?

I enjoyed their verbal sparring as well--it has the give and take of two people who know, like and respect each other and it could easily morph into actual flirting but that won't happen because the poor man has to interact with Carly.

I was watching the Ava, Kristina and Alexis scenes and I realized that KM is playing Kristina exactly as she played Abigail on Days, like there's this deep core of unpleasantness to her.

I tuned into GH on Prime this afternoon (wish they'd move on from the stuff they've been repeating for WEEKS), and there was a scene with Kristina, Sam and Shiloh.   Kristina is on a rant because Jason has attacked Shiloh and she's telling him that Jason works for her father as an enforcer, and he needs to be careful because Jason is dangerous.  I think KM is playing Kristina pretty much the same way that LA did.

Drew is so, so creepy, immediately speaking for Willow and barely allowing her a word in edgewise. But his attitude toward Willow getting her kids back is entirely in character with his complete lack of parenting of his own daughter.

"You're willing to sacrifice yourself for your kids? Of course you are. I get it." Do you, Drew? Any sacrifices you've made have been for someone else's kids. Shut up.

Felicia is the only one showing any sense in this whole Drew/Willow/kids situation.

Sorry, Show, but having Noted Bigot Natalia save Sonny doesn't redeem her; in fact, it's another mark in the "needs to go immediately and this is why" column.

LOL at Lulu, of all people, explaining how if Tracy is pushed she'll dig in harder. When has Lulu ever compromised? She just goes ahead and does what she wants, consequences be damned.

Ugh, Brick is still oozing around Jordan. And really? "Our resident man of mystery"?

Sonny, everyone knows you take medication for your bipolar condition. I doubt Ava seeing you pop another one is going to set off alarm bells. Tell her your schedule changed. Good lord, Sonny is so dumb.

Sasha should not be far enough along to have baby brain yet. "Willow is such a different person, we need to keep her children from her." So ridiculous.

I can only assume that Michael's spawn has contaminated her with TheCarlyitis.  She was in awful form today with the judgmental attitude.  And then her satisfied 'madonna' smile at the end when Willow actually thanked her for taking care of the kids. Fuck off, show.

Speaking of awful, Drew gets worse every day.  So obsessed with Willow and her kids, meanwhile when is the last time he saw Scout?

I once accidentally called 911 and the cops showed up at my house anyway and asked to take a look around to make sure I wasn't being held hostage (I guess), but, sure, Noted Bigot Natalya can say 'nevermind' and that's the end of it.

Ugh, Brick.  That's all.

Sasha had the kids illegally after her attacking Willow in her home to look around, after she refused to let Willow legally leave with her kids, then she ran to tattle tale and she's still putting herself involved in this.

She cheated with Michael first and carrying his child while he's married to someone else.  Sasha is no paragon compared to Willow. Then she says she doesn't recognize Willow and had his parents banned. She's the cook, it's not her business. She's forgetting the part where Michaels parents had cops show up to take her kids from her? It's not like Carly was banned for no reason, she struck first.

Oh look Jason came up with the common sense compromise.

Drew needs to shut up. Stay away from Willows lawyer.

Can someone refresh my memory. I remember Sasha walking in on Willow and Drew kissing, and then seemingly telling everyone but not Michael?

When Michael met Sasha in the bar, my recollection is that he knew Willow and Drew had kissed (can’t remember how he found out) but hadn’t seen the nanny cam video of them having sex. So few people mention this though that I’m questioning my memory.

WIllow and Drew kissed on 4th of July. Sasha walked and talked to everyone about it except for Michael. I think Sasha and Willow talked about it after the second kiss I wanna say.

Michael found out because Cody got drunk because he realized he was living a real Life V.C. Andrews novel and couldn't bang Sasha, so he blurted out the secret in an entire bar and went into fisticuffs with Drew. I think this is how Michael found out. HOW exaclly i don't know. but Sasha then got drunk along with Michael and they screwed  and she got pregnant. THEN she told Michael about the 2nd kiss (basically right after Michael is all "yeh I can forgive this."

and since she's been Carlylizing from the Womb.  and since then she's been super judgemental to Willow. knowing that she screwed her husband  and got knocked up. including comments like "I shouldn't have given Michael to you, etc etc."

and what really cracks me up is that while yes Willow fell into an emotional affair (I say fall because it's emotions. it's not like you wake up one day and go "i'mma gonna have an emotional affair today") - and kissed Drew and lied about the second kiss. Neither Sasha nor Michael (from what i've seen - so i'm wrong, i'l take it back) has shown ANY remorse about screwing each other and getting pregnant and at the time Willow was still Sasha's best friend. So Sasha can legit miss me with all her mess.

Hi folks. Long time, no post from me.  I stopped watching GH shortly after the Sonny killed AJ storyline, about 10 years ago now, but started again when I heard about Leslie Charleson's death. I always loved her as Monica and for me, she and the Quartermaine family  were the mainstay of the show.  The wholesale slaughter of that family made me stop watching, LC's real life passing brought me back.

I love reading this board and all your funny, insightful comments.  To my surprise I've also mostly enjoyed this past week or so of the Show, mostly because of Jane Elliott and the shout-outs to the Quartermaine family.  Tracy's mock kidnapping of Michael's kids and her confrontations with Carly and Sonny, Drew and Jason with the references to Monica and the past kept me tuning in.

There's more characters that I don't know than that I do.  The new characters, at first glance are a mixed bag.  Cody seems like an idiot, which is a shame since I liked Josh Kelly on OLTL.  Isaiah, Aunt Stella, I like.  Sasha ...... something about that one I don't care for.  She seems like she could steamroll like Carly if she had a mind to.  Joss is just as awful as we always knew Carly's daughter would be and that young woman, Stella's niece, I think, doesn't seem too bright if she's Joss's friend.  Did Show really think a younger version of Carly was needed?

NuLulu, played by Babe-is-Love from AMC is edging towards being as annoying in Port Charles as she was in Pine Valley.  I see Cam Mat brought the same stutterbarking hiss line delivery, complete with non-blinking eyes to his Drew Quartermaine that he brought to his AMC Ryan Lavery.  Not a fan.

I didn't know that Kristina Wagner was back as Felicia.  What a treat!  I haven't seen enough of Laura yet but I'm glad that she seems front and center.  Same for Anna.  Elizabeth looks great and it's nice that Lucky is back, even nicer if he washed his hair.

The sets are a treat to see after the paucity of different sets on Y&R and the shabbiness of the sets on DOOL.  I miss the richness of the Quartermaine house - all that gray and the Ikea/Ross Dress For Less furniture doesn't fit with what I remember.  Overall, though, visually, the show is an improvement over the other soaps.

Anyway, that's the view from this returnee.  You folks have a wonderful, fun board and it's a real pleasure to read your posts.

If CD’s departure would’ve been permanent I could’ve seen her go with him, then come back to announce his death. Maybe she’ll do it as a fake out as it would be easier to do there than if he had been taken to Hopkins.

Ugh. I haven't been really watching or keeping up with GH since last week's interruptions. We're really not through with the SLS?  My heart goes out to CD, but frankly, I was thrilled when it seemed like Mikey was taking a dirt nap.

AFAIC, Sasha can miss me with her mess because it's none of her business, whether she slept with Michael or not. I couldn't believe her telling Felicia that Willow threw away such a good man in Michael, who gave her everything. Uh, he was a manipulative control freak who can't recognize his own patterns of behavior but is plenty willing to slag other people's. Yes, what a perfect life to walk away from.

Not that running directly to Drew is any better, but Felicia was right: No one knows what goes in a marriage except the two people in it (and maybe not even them). So shut up and think about how you're going to deal with the fallout when everyone hears you and Michael fucked and now you're pregnant.

Ugh, the unearned self-righteousness characters on this show have is beyond aggravating.

I almost prefer that Michael will be out of town for an unspecified period of time instead of dead, because I do NOT need to hear Sonny and Carly grieve their SLS of a son. Or anyone else grieve him, for that matter. At least with Michael in Germany he can improve and it (hopefully) won't suck up more airtime once he's been settled.

Brick is skeezy, and yeah, Lucky is a small guy, but he could handle himself and more against drunk Cody, who I'm back to kind of hating. They really do NOT know what to do with him.

Also, Lucky is one cute bartender. The show is really wasting him so far tho.

Kristina's lipstick/high pony game were on point yesterday.

I like Sasha but yeah. She banged her BFF's husband and got knocked up and that happened before Willow and Drew (gross) slept together on the floor of the nursery. Everyone is reviling Willow so much but Michael cheated in a bigger way before she did. And Sasha can shut up about Willow not deserving her kids, tho she did get kind of teary eyed watching the Wiley/Willow reunion yesterday, so maybe she's over that BS.

Is a fight choreographer that expensive? These two actors are soap vets, they know how to take a few fake punches.

I’m conflicted because I like Josh Kelly, especially his little quips whenever he and Dante hang out. But Cody is so boring. Based on the previews it looks like they may be testing him against Molly tomorrow, but I don’t see his ne’er do well personality improving against Molly’s miss perfect. Although I guess with the (forever) impending Gio reveal, Lulu and Dante’s flirtation will probably cease long enough for a Lulu/Cody fling.

I'm so frustrated with Sasha. I was meh on her for years. However, her becoming a Scorpio, truly being part of the family, the end of Cody and her (blech) and the potential of her and Jason actually had me lliking her. I watched all her scenes, gung-ho for her, etc. But now, man, she's being soooooo wrong and annoying and I just want to tell her to STAHP. Stop being a stoopyhead! I was rooting for you, girl! I was finally rooting for you!

Ugh!

I said earlier that I wasn't mad at Tracy over this kid thing. And that's still true. (It would be hilarious if she's arrested. Tracy in Jail could be fun.) But I am fucking over this situation. Are we leading up to Willow finally finding her goddamn spine and fighting for herself? Because that would be better, but please hurry up, if that's the case. And if it's not...this feels like wheel-spinning because the man who should be at the center of all this drama - Michael - isn't available.

And Sasha can shut up. Girl, this has nothing to do with you. This is not your family.

Unlikely. She'll pretend she's in charge, but it will be Drew doing all of the puppeteering. She moves from one manipulator to another. For a minute there she seemed to recognize that, but it certainly didn't change anything.

Drew being so pissed she's moved back into the gatehouse is clearly because he thinks he won't be able to control her as he has been.  And more UCG at his proclamation that the Qs will manipulate her into doing what they want.

That was weird and also why did Lucky have to go down to the station?  It was clear Cody was the aggressor.  And yeah, pretty sure Lucky could handle Eyeore without any interference from Brick.

I do love Lucky and Liz working together.  They are such a great pair.  And how Liz is able to stay fully dressed with the looks Lucky gives her I will never know….girlfriend has more restraint than I would.

Why didn't Isaiah just say go to the emergency room and hang up? Ridiculous! I know Sonny thinks he's invincible because he floated backwards to Pennsylvania but this is crazy. Oh I'm 60 but I'll just hold off on my heart attack.

And can you imagine sitting across from hot Isaiah and then Brick pops up? Jordan should have vomited on him.

Re Cody: It's one thing to be a jerk, and another to be a whiny sad sack but put them together and there just aren't many redeeming qualities.

I think her and both Willow and Drew are annoying but I'm interested in where this is heading so there's that at least.

I think Tracy was being stupid but it was entertaining so whatever.

Joss:  "I don't think anything, I know."  Could anything describe Joss' arrogance more perfectly?

I'm very disappointed in Laura. Way to cop out on what's best for Avery. So what if you're both Rocco's grandparents, as someone who just got her daughter back, she should be helping Ava to do the same.

Isn't it convenient that both Isaiah and Lucky left Charlie's before Sidwell came in?  (not) And why does Charlie's stock expensive champagne?

Ava: "Why did you bring me to the place claustrophobia was born?"  LOL Now that's how they should remind us of Ava's money problems.

Why is Mac calling Molly ADA Lansing-Davis? I cannot with this show having people who have known each other forever using formal titles.

I wouldn't mind a Molly/Cody story. It might get her to loosen up and give him a storyline other than drinking and screwing up.

Welcome back!  Maybe things will change, but I don’t think you will like what they’ve done to Anna.  She cries about 90% of the time and has been reduced to asking Jason for help with pretty much everything.  Oh yeah, I don’t know if you know this but also they kissed.  Yep.  Sit with that one for a minute.  I do have to say though things have been good lately, all things considered.  The actors have definitely picked up their game a bit, even if the writing is still pretty subpar.

Maybe because I wasn’t watching when they introduced Bigot Natalia, I don’t mind her that much now.  But I’m guessing it was pretty bad.  I like Eva LaRue, but my biggest gripe since I missed all that is that like with most all the other newcomers, she’s not necessary.

"No one wants Michael to suffer," his family agrees, as he writhes in agony. No one suggested they pay the doctor at the German clinic to treat Michael at GH. That would be a decent compromise, but we know CD is leaving.

And LOL that Michael would be in better shape if Willow wasn't talking to Michael, when they're waiting for Jason to find Sasha before they put him under again. And of course he codes while Willow is in there, so Carly can yell at her for yet another reason. Ugh.

Anna, if you're so tired of other people getting caught in traps set for Sonny, do your job and arrest him. You still have Cyrus's statement about Sonny beating him up. Use it.

Calling Jason for help with Q problems? Oh, Anna.

"You didn't know Carly and Sonny were manipulating you." And Willow doesn't know that Drew is also manipulating Willow.

Who's going to take care of Donna and Avery while Carly is in Germany? That should get Ava custody of Avery.

Yeah, right.  This is the show where a year old divorce settlement is suddenly seized without any due process or notification of any kind.

Some people make fun of things like Star Trek for being ridiculous.  But at least it’s fairly consistent and logical.  GH cant even write anything that is close to consistent with the real world in which it is supposed to exist.

I accidentally called 911 from my office once because I was trying to dial a UK number and instead of starting with 9-011, I dialed 911 then realized what I did when it started ringing, hung up, they called immediately back and l said "Oh shit, I'm sorry I'm an idiot, I was trying to dial England!!". They still showed up at the office because I think they had to, but mainly I think they just wanted to laugh at me in person.

It cracks me up that Sonny thinks that going to the hospital will show everyone he's weak. The longer he doesn't get real treatment, the weaker he will get. It's too much to ask that he'll drop dead at a meeting of the Five Families, but I'll take him collapsing in the MetroCourt or some other extremely public, populated place.

Good grief, could Cody be a bigger self-pitying whiner? Some of us suffered through Morgan, Show. No need to recycle those scripts now. (Though we can recycle Dante telling Cody he can't whine his way out of trouble.)

The big change Kristina made to Charlie's seems to be different music and blue lights. Way to shake things up!

Yes, Ric is a terrible person for wanting Ava to pay him what he's owed. I'm pretty sure Ava wouldn't show as much patience as he has if someone didn't pay her for a painting.

if Brick were as smart as everybody thinks he is, he'd have found the best cardiologist in Europe, so Sonny could say he's going to visit Michael in Germany. And I know this was taped weeks before the LA fires, but oof. The last thing that city needs is a visit from Sonny Corinthos.

Oh dear God, I thought they might be pumping Joss up as the next super spy Anna type, but maybe they are pumping her up to be the next super hero Jason type who will always be saving the day. Ugh. 🤮

Natalia walks into Charlie's, goes right to Kristina and says: "Since the moment I walked in the door the music has been outstanding!" ...um, you haven't even made it through one song, Natalia, wtf?! Also, I do not agree with her on the "low key aucoustic" vibe, so much as "1940's speakeasy with some blue LEDs".

I have a list of people for Cyrus to digitalis the hell out of.

Joss and Cody for a start. Natalia next. Sonny for good measure since we know his Afib will be kill him. Brick, Brick, Brick and Brick too. Congressman Drewfus.

Charlie is not different from what it was. Blue lights don't count. They didn't even bother changing the blackboard behind the bar. But Kristina did such an amazing thing. It's like when Carly took over Kelly's. Kelly's was so awesome. The changes, the changes, did we mention the changes?

We lost a gastropub, but gained whatever this thing is. Shut up, Spinelli!

Why is Lucas talking to Joss? Run, dude! RUN! She's her mother's mini me. She's unreasonable and thinks she's right about everything. She's toxic. Why do you even bother?

Not to defend Joss but Donna and Avery put the clamps in her hair.

Speaking of the entitled little shit, glad to see Anna's smack down has done nothing to stop her from going off half cocked about Cyrus again.

Not sure I buy this "there's nothing to charge Sidwell" business since Sasha can very easily finger him for kidnapping and blowing up a building in PC.

Count me among those underwhelmed by Kristina's big makeover of Charlie's.

It feels like I came back at just the right time, with Carly invading Germany and Sonny going to Los Angeles.  Neither place deserves what's coming their way, but it will sure be nice to not see those two onscreen as long as it lasts.

I'd forgotten how much Sonny sounds like Cartman from South Park - minus the charm and sex appeal, of course.

So, Natalia......hmmm.  She certainly has two large assets in her favor, assets I don't remember being so prominent when she was in Pine Valley.

That phrase is music to my ears!  It's been at least a decade since I've read them.  I think I have a teeshirt with the same written on it.  I must dig that out.

Hair clips?  Nice to know that Donna and Avery hate Joss, too.

So, only first impressions, but Alexis' daughter, Molly, seems to have all the charm of Miss Gulch coming to take away Toto.  I'm not sure about Kristina yet.

If Show was going to have a character named Brick as a character, why can't it be the one from "The Middle"?  I'd enjoy seeing that one be Sonny's right hand man.

Lucky looks so good, he hasn't aged a day.  He and Elizabeth still have it.

I think they were. There's a reason we called her Saint Maria of the Pushup Bra back then.

So, all Noted Bigot Natalia needed to do was lie on the stand for Kristina (because she wants to take a ride on Kristina's daddy for some unfathomable reason), and the two of them are BFFs now?  Their giddy greeting when she showed up at Charlie's was gag worthy.

Liz and Lucky are just too adorable. They're absolutely the best thing about GH these days.

Cody pick a lane. Be boring or a gambler but just get over yourself. Ugh!

Sonny to California. Buh-bye!

I wish a brick house would fall on Brick. It’s bad enough I have to watch him on ESPN. Go Birds!

Why is Alexis still in her big shirt outfit from the dock? Don’t you have other clothes at home?!

What’s the over/under that Ava’s house will be done by tomorrow? It will look fabulous. Unfortunately, some that god awful artwork from the gallery will there too. I will give GH some points for bringing back Ric and hooking him up with Ava. I mean Maura West and Rick Hearst together is what dreams are made of. I’ve been watching him since GL and her since ATWT. Both those were my shows were my jam in the late 70’s until they went off the air.

Nice to Molly Lansing-Davis again. Good lord do they have to have her saying that every time? We know who she is already. Kristina wasn’t totally horrible with her Barbie Head (1970’s) ponytail. She also had to be nice to everyone since it was her Grand Opening.

Sidwell. The actor (Carlo Rota) is so suave. He can’t be long for Port Charles right? Pity. Because he’s a silver daddy stud. Of course, he’s met all of Port Charles and no one knew he was. At least, Jordan (and, now Laura) are on the job.

Finally, Charles Masure (Brennan) has been on GH since 2023 and he hasn’t taken his shirt off or “accidentally” gotten caught with only a Metro Court towel. Does he have it in his contract that he won’t show skin? Do we have to pair him with Brook Lynn?

Rant over.

Culture Check: How can we discuss a character's or actor's appearance without objectifying them? How can we express likes or dislikes and still respect an individual's humanity or be mindful that a character represents a person someone else might relate to or identify with?
