Is the issue is that the man is a pastor vs. some other job title (educational background) vs. that he spoke to the group in the 1st place?

It's one thing if it's voluntary, but another when it's forced upon you like that. Employment laws here in my state forbid that type of activity.

I did not care for Victoria last season, but I guess I’m in the minority this season because I think she’s shown big improvements. In the stadium tour, I did a double take at first because I didn’t realize it was her. She looked amazing.

She did look great, but her hair is in desperate need of a good Brazilian Blowout to combat the frizz, or at the very least a blowdry/flat iron and Olaplex treatment.

Ok-Now I am really confused. A state law?? I just had a flashback of how many speakers pranced through my career all of which I can't remember what s/he said, when they said it, let alone their current job title. I live in a area where people are constantly spouting off their accomplishments.

I will concede on this sub-topic and will move onto another...

Was that Madeline's mom in the elevator she was hugging after getting cut? If so I am wondering did Madeleine call her before being escorted out by security?

I think they spent so much money on the Star that there is just going to be the tour or some focus on it every season.  I was fine with it, not that TPTB asked. 🙂

Julia is one of my favs and that preview did not sound good.  What the heck?  I know editing can be deceiving... I hope so but eerrggh.  Hate cliffhangers!

Three more cuts to go and it’s looking less and less likely that Meredith will be one of them.  Until this episode I was pretty sure Lily was a goner now I’m not so sure. I think Kristen may be on the bubble.  She’s gotten next to no airtime and the time Kelly mentioned her she said Kristen looked sloppy.  If Christina has secured her spot then all of the veterans should be safe.

Kelcey is a rockstar so I have no worries for her.  Her prancing on the entrance was picture perfect.  I was irked on her behalf that she didn’t get some praise, at least not on air.

Amanda and Chandi are both great as well and I can’t imagine that they’re not in the top 36.  I’m also pulling for rookie Taylor.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out and who we lose next.

ETA: The kick line was hands down the worst I’ve seen and I’ve watched every episode every season.  We had more than one leg lift failure, Meredith leaning too far forward and almost taking down two vets and then a few girls didn’t start kicking with the rest of the squad.  Serious train wreck.

Why did Kelli feel free to bring her pastor to a work related event and force her employees to listen to the guy? BECAUSE TEXAS, Y'ALL! That would never happen where I live now, but watching the show I was transported back to my homeland of Texas and I didn't even think twice. NGL, I looked him up immediately and was impressed that he leads a small parish. I would expect Kelli to go to a megachurch with a Bible Bowl rivaling ATT Stadium. So I give her props for bringing a lesser known voice onto the camera.

Amanda looked great on the field in the few seconds that we saw her. Normally I would assume she makes the team since she is a very strong dancer and performer AND there are multiple TCCs who are clearly worse at dancing, performing, remembering choreography, staying in formation, etc. But given that Kelli has already cut girls who are better than Meredith and Kat, I feel like it’s a crap shoot who she’s going to cut next in order to keep her pets.

Poor Shaina. Losing someone is always hard, but losing three friends at once and then going to rehearsal and pasting a smile on your face while there are cameras in your face is a lot for anyone to handle, let alone someone who is relatively young. I can't imagine how much worse it was to bring in a pastor to rehearsal and have cameras on you while he talks about loss (after Kelli announces that three of your friends just died).

Everyone has their own way of grieving. Not everyone is going to be like Daphne and talk about it in a group on tv (and to be fair, Daphne said her grandfather died in the off season so it wasn't quite as fresh as what Shaina was dealing with). Not everyone is going to feel comfortable standing up and talking about it. I'm sure that if there are girls Shaina is close to on the team, she probably told them what happened in private. There was no need for her to do it on camera and there was definitely no need for Kelli to look so put out that Shaina chose not to do that.

Honestly, I applaud Shaina for showing up to practice with her hair and makeup done and doing the routines and not bursting into tears. After my dad died, I would start crying for no apparent reason and not because anything triggered a memory of him. Once I was sitting at a restaurant and for no reason, I just burst into tears as the waitress showed up. I felt so bad for the poor startled waitress who had no idea what to do.

The fact that Shaina is showing up and dancing with a smile on her face shows what a pro she is. That's what separates amateur performers from professionals. Everyone hurts, but the saying is absolutely true for professionals: the show must go on. They tuck away the pain for however long the show is and do their jobs.

I say this every year... If the entrance is soooo important why do they wait weeks into the camp before going over all of the little parts?

With the star complex and other surrounding HS/college fields, I thought there was a place to with yard lines to practice on if the Stadium is unavailable.

And I wonder why someone like Meredith who KNOWS she has trouble learning things hasn't been practicing it on her own since the beginning of training camp.  The entrance never changes, does it?  And YouTube is a thing.

For me the issue is that none of those girls could opt out even with the utmost respect and courtesy, for fear of Kelli.  I don't think I saw a prayer (I wasn't paying that much attention), but I guaran-damn-tee there was one.

To me, the only appropriate thing would have been for Kelli to say, "We've made a non-denominational pastor and a secular counselor available to anyone in training camp who feels she would like to speak to someone.  It will be entirely confidential."

YES! I watched Kelli throughout her exchange and at the very end. To me, Kelli looked almost smug like she was pleased with herself when it was all over. No tears for Madeline, she saved all those for Meredith.

If I was Madeline, I would move on and not look back. No way Kelli is letting her into TC again no matter how much she improves (and she does need more time to do that).  She has a better future ahead of her without DCC.

Madeline is going to watch this show and wonder why the hell she wasted all this time when Kelli clearly was never going to put her on the squad from the start.  I'm with everyone who has speculated bad blood between Kelli and M's mom.

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one that feels that way. I’m just not a fan.

Her teeth are so fake looking.   I’m not even sure what’s going on with them?  Are they those implants with the screws (she’d be too young for those though, right)?  Are they all capped?  Are they veneers?  Like whatever they are is so unnatural looking it creeps me out.  Too big for her mouth and all exactly the same length and size.   If they were done for cosmetic reasons whoever did them did an awful job.

Shes a great dancer though.

This is no joke.  In my part of the country people might ask what you do for a living when they meet you; in Texas they ask where you go to church. Friday night football and Southern Protestantism are the state religions.

RE: the pastor/prayer-circle/motivational speech :

I thought sports teams ( all or most ) have or have access to a team chaplain or grief counselor, who may have a religious background or affiliation.  So I kinda viewed the minister's appearance and talk along those lines - from the heart, trying his best not to offend or step on any toes . For now, I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was trying to come and share from a good place.

I figured that the minister was probably also (or wants to be) on stand-by staff with the Cowboys Organization in addition to having an close affiliation with Kelli.

It's too bad that his visit happened after a sequence of sad events to the TCC community. I ready to hear some good news about the TCC lives- has anyone become an aunt, or got a new job/promotion, got a new puppy/kitten, (grand)parents returned from their dream vacation, etc.

I agree.  I don't have problems with religious people, or religion at all.  What made it uncomfortable, IMO was that it was filmed; there's nothing wrong with what the pastor said, I mean you are as sick as your secrets and many times someone might be going through something similar.  However, maybe that segment shouldn't have been filmed for the TV show.

I don't get this "OMG, STRANGERS."  Had it not been for "strangers" I met in 12 step programs, I would probably be dead today.

I was also wondering who she was hugging in the elevator!  It looked like whoever it was was older, looked to old to be her mother (especially because I believe her mother had cheered with Kelli and Judy so would be around their age... but I probably shouldn't jump to conclusions).  It sounded like her parents don't live in Dallas (she is from Round Rock).

I didn't see the show/scene in the elevator but could it possibly have been Cheryl (the door lady)?

Whoever she was hugging had short white hair so unless Madeline's mom is really old (or went grey really young), I don't think that's who it was.

Daphne is one of my favorites, so I was glad to see her featured in this episode, even for a sad reason.  And I was delighted to see Danielle!  If Victoria had been given less screen time, this episode would have been almost perfect.

I thought it was interesting that there were three people who didn't get any stickers from the group leaders: Madeline, Meredith and Lisa.

Really? I've lived in Texas my whole life and no new people I've met have ever asked me about church. Lol

See that was always my experience growing up & living in Texas.  It wasn't until we moved to Georgia that it became the 2nd question I was always asked.  "What's your name?  Where do you go to church?" is how every conversation with a new person here starts.  Never once in Texas (at least in the Houston area) do I remember someone asking me about my religion.  But I am willing to admit that I have realized since moving out of Texas, that Houston was a very culturally diverse, Liberal(ish) bubble to grow up in.

I agree that the pastor scene was odd. I feel like they were in a rock and a hard place a bit- the schedule for the girls is set before they get into TCC. They don’t likely have time to miss a field rehearsal, no matter how big the tragedy, (which is why this was squeezed in before a rehearsal, on a film night, and not with the girls in business attire etc ). But also, if they didn’t do anything to acknowledge the crash, it would come off as insensitive too. Or, what if it ends up affecting Shaina’s performance (totally reasonable if it does!), we’d need to know why, and then we’d wonder why they don’t tell us?  I’m glad they had it, but I agree that it’s too bad it was filmed.  I’d give Kelli the benefit of the doubt here though and guess that it was supposed to be private and CMT got wind and took over. Just my overly optimistic opinion probably.

I’m very interested in how the remaining cuts happen. I think Madeline’s power could be worked on but Meredith is a mess and Madeline gets cut?? I don’t get it.

They could have just as easily brought in a non-religious motivational speaker to give them a pep talk/lean on your sisters speech. I just find it unnecessary to bring in a pastor to a DCC rehearsal to give that kind of little talk.

This is Texas though!  Religion and football are kings in that state.  Unless you're familiar with the South, you might think it's odd or unnecessary, but I assure you it's totally normal in those parts.

Just one more reason I'm glad I don't have to live in Texas. Just because something is "normal 'round these parts" doesn't make it right.

Wow.  Nothing was said about Lisa so I totally missed that.  What the heck?  All of her “on air” feedback has been nothing but positive. What’s been going on that we haven’t seen that would result in her being totally shut out by all of the group leaders?  Hmm ... a mystery.

ETA: Kash didn’t pick Lisa either.  The plot thickens.

No, it definitely wasn't Cheryl.  There was also what looked like a security guard in the elevator.  It could have been another Cowboys employee who just offered her a hug. I mean what else would you do if a crying girl got on the elevator with you?

Could be wrong and misremembering but I believe Meredith said she was 27 last season when she was featured. 😊

Yes, she is 28.  And she did go to college, she majored in dance.  I'm not sure how she would have danced at AT&T stadium in 8th grade?  Maybe she meant Texas Stadium?  I'll have to go back and see how she worded that.

17 hours ago, NoChtngWhenEtng said:

No clue, but under 23 is probable since I don't think she went to college. If I remember her bio she went to NYC after high school then to the magic show in Guam. Lol.

No, she went to college and graduated in 2013 with a degree in dance and choreography.  She is 28.

I agree, it was really bad.  It will be entertaining to watch Kelli to say "best rookie class ever" with a straight face when announcing the team after seeing these results!  Who was the blonde vet second from end that dropped a leg?

Kat was on my list in addition to those. I think she is equally a mess but it was interesting to hear the group leads felt she could "fake it until she makes it".  Kat did have really good field presence.... I don't know how well she danced but she looked great on the walk out.

As far as Madeleine before Meredith, I agree it doesn't make sense.  It seems Kelli LOVES Meredith and has been clearly very supportive of her.  I can't imagine she can hang on until the end, but she bought herself another week.

Kat looked good in this episode (to me, an untrained eye). But I agree in other weeks she was on the hot mess express as well.

They said Madeline did a weird head roll and then slow mo’ed her looking absolutely gorgeous .... confusing to me for sure! I really like Madeline and I hope she comes back!

From the last episode it seemed maybe because of her ballet background?  Also TPTB thought she did well on the field (except for the kick line thing).

"The kick line thing" is huge. Every year they point out that if you're out of sync there's potential to injure the girls next to you. That's likely why Kelli kept repeating that Meredith was scaring her.

In next week's previews, What is the question that Meredith (TV reporter) asks Meredith (TCC rookie) about someone named Nick coming to the Cowboys? Then Kelli says something about calling the Jacksonville Jaguars? Was it a trick question?

Or even just the outfit they arrived in. It seems like they show them arriving in t-shirts and shirt w/the practice attire under them. Then they would’ve been a little more covered.

LOL hey, she did what she did!

It's not Brennan's fault... There are several factors happening at the same time contributing to that cluster!  I looked at each second of video... Lisa loses her balance on the bow & rocks back onto her heel which makes Brennan's lifted leg pull backwards.   It also makes Maddie lose her balance and hop backwards, which pulls Lisa's leg back at an awkward angle, which causes Brennan to not have a "shelf" to keep her leg on.  (with me so far? lol)  Also, Savannah is too far back in the line and it makes an awkward angle for Julia's leg lift and it slips off of Savvy's "shelf."

Yes.  The reporter asked  Meredith about Nick Foles coming to Dallas, but he actually signed with Jacksonville. It was a trick question.

I, too, did a freeze frame on the rookie pictures and the stickers. I was really surprised to see that Lisa hadn’t gotten any from the group leaders or Kashara. It also looked like she hadn’t gotten one from a couple of the guest choreographers, either.  I guess my head she is some sort of a lock, so I’d be curious to see what it is people aren’t liking about her.

I'm only just catching up as the site I watch on in the UK keeps going down! I love Lisa as a dancer, but isn't it telling that none of the group leaders gave her a sticker at all? She's one of the best rookie dancers they have but if she's not a good teammate, she shouldn't be there!
