S14.E03: All Aboard The Rumor Train

A gang bang is NOT the same as a train.

A gang bang is rape. There is absolutely no consent implied or otherwise. A "gang" of men act in concert and rape a woman. 

A "train" implies that the woman in some way consented to having sex with a succession of men. That is why is implies the woman is of questionable moral character. However, most "trains" fall in the gray area since the woman is so inebriated on some kind of intoxicant that legal consent is not possible. Still because the woman got herself that drunk or whatever, there would still be those who pass a moral judgment on her. There are a very few instances in which women would willingly participate in a train. Years ago there was a woman who was a porn star or some other professional who did one for the Guiness Book of Records.

A threesome is always consensual and just another lifestyle choice. It can be any configuration of genders and even include more than three. Obviously it's for the sexually adventurous and as has been pointed out numerous times on this thread, Laurie attempted to shame Vicki on the ski slopes by accusing her of participating in a threesome. I have no idea what any of these people's sex lives actually are but statistically I would imagine a few of them have had a threesome as part of their sexual experimentation although probably not as a steady lifestyle choice. I would doubt Shannon or Emily ever did. Although I find VIcki repulsive and hypocritical, she is such a stupid lump of a bourgeois that I doubt she has - I am still reeling at her stupidity in equating atheism with having no moral compass - only someone with a 10 year old's level of philosophical and spiritual understanding believes that Christians have any kind of monopoly on ethical behavior. And Vicki is also the kind of person with such limited intellectual views of the world that I believe she thinks anyone but a Christian is headed for hell or at best purgatory.

Not that I think she doesn't have a persona or that the show is truly "reality". But the Tamra character she plays on television is pretty much Tamra - her life is her life. I think the whole business of gasp - a $2 million dollar home is ridiculous because a $2 million dollar home in Orange County or Los Angeles is really not a big deal. "Normal" people live in a home that is $1 million dollars. Between her salary, whatever she gets as a social media influenster, side ventures in terms of paid appearances their income is more than enough to afford that home - it's not some kind of economic stretch in the way some of the housewives on various franchises live in fake homes or pretend to have lifestyles that aren't warranted by their income or assets.

Shannon's unexpected marital problems with cheatin' David was the ORIGINAL mother lode of divorce drama. Nobody can top it.

I do watch BH and I cringe every time Mikey comes on screen because he is so extra. But I also thought Gretchen was a lazy asshole so I’m with him on that!! Now I gotta Google what song Gretchen lip synced to to confirm  because it was one of the top ten moments of shadenfreude for me on the franchise!! 😎

Why would you think someone who is probably making in excess of $500,000 at a minimum can't afford a $2 million home. That is not a huge amount for a home in Orange County and people with ordinary well paying jobs live in homes for that amount. 

The home that Eddie bought was fairly nice and since he had owned it for awhile, I am sure he had some equity in it so their new home - at least to me - is a fairly normal home purchase for a family of their means.

It comes up again that Shannon conceived the twins after a Def Leppard concert. The twins are 14 or 15 o so she went to a DL concert in 2004 or 2005.

I thought Def Leppard was a hair band from the early 80's. I think the men were in their 20's in their hey day. Did they get newer younger band members or did they stick with the originals.

Does this hair band have any hair left?

I’m not sure where the idea that the sweatshirts are petite sizing comes from but they aren’t. The CaliYork line uses regular sizing XS, S, M, L and there’s no specific notation regarding it being a petites line

Also, while Shannon's marriage was rocky when she first came on, they at least appeared together. We watched her over several seasons - related to her, empathized with her, liked her, whatever. (SOME of us.) We saw her trying to work through things with David. 

Gina came on the show and her husband was already out the door. We've literally never seen him, and she wasn't on long enough, nor did she behave nice enough, for many of us to really CARE. 

That's the difference, for me.

Gina has too. I hardly recognize her in her THs, and usually they look better in the THs because they have professional lighting, hair and make-up. But I think Gina looks awful. What on earth made her decide to go platinum blonde? 

I’m not sure what to think about Kelly. I hope the rumors aren’t true. I feel sorry for her daughter.

At this point they have been making a good amount of money and real estate prices have appreciated so the old home would have been worth a fair amount. 

I don’t have intimate knowledge of their income or assets. My point is that I don’t think it a financial stretch for someone with Tamra’s income to move into a $2 million dollar home especially after selling the old one. Most people at their income level could afford a home at that price point. They didn’t move into the level of home Heather lives in or Shannon moved out of.

I think Phaedra’s claim that Kandi tried to drug and rape a woman is way more over the line than any of the stupid rumors being spread by any of the OC women. Insinuating that someone has loose morals is mean spirited but not the same as accusing someone of heinous criminal activity.

I think the producers do want the ladies to stir the shit but I only up to a point and Phaedra passed that point. And then there are the very real logistics of the women not wanting to work with another cast member.

For whatever reason, Porsha wasn’t as tainted with the rape accusation as Phaedra. And probably more valuable as a cast member than Phaedra. 

Which brings it back to VIcki in terms of value to the cast. From what I’ve read, the producers are trying to attract a younger viewer and Vicki is one of the older members. She also really doesn’t have much of a story line as I don’t think any viewer is emotionally vested enough in her relationship with Steve to care. 

Shannon has a great come back story. Tamra is much smarter about not going over the line while at the same time being able to bring and instigate the drama. So far, this franchise has escaped the tedious idiocy of a whole season devoted to whether a dog was returned to a shelter or not.

I know so many people that actually lost their homes during the recession. Hardworking people that had owned their home for years. Some overmortgaged them, others simply had no job at all, or went from 6 figures to working at Home Depot. I was lucky to have had savings, or I would not have been able to make my payments after my employer shut down and I ended up taking a job that paid 1/2 of my previous salary, but offered benefits, pre ACA, I was paying $700 a month for personal insurance. Not sure if Tamara bailed him out, or he just worked out a loan modification on his house. That was the other big option at that time. The banks didn't want the houses back, they were overloaded with them.

This is kind of where I am with Tamra.  I totally get what people are saying when they say that she is horrible, I absolutely see it.  At the same time, though, I . . . don't really hate her.  I don't like everything she does and I can't say I'd want to be her friend, but Tamra is pretty consistent.  You know how she's going to act, you know what you will get.  I'd probably enjoy her if she was in my larger circle, but wouldn't want her as a super close friend.  I like that she's just who she is, if she's wearing cheaper shoes, she's like, hey, these are shoes you can get at TJMaxx.  Then she might say well, these earrings are from Chanel.  She's good with all of it.

When Tamra and Simon started on the show, he was working for a major dealership in the area.  After the first season she was on, they weren't amused and they let him go.  He then decided to go into a tequila business, and the naked wasted dinner was supposed to be a tasting meal to either try some product that they were considering for the line or to launch and introduce the line, I forget which.  Either way, the fact that it was for Simon's new business got lost in the naked wasted shuffle and I'm pretty sure he works for that dealership now.

I think that's a period when a lot of people were having issues with their mortgages, wasn't it? I have no idea what the actual story is, but I would venture to guess that it is entirely possible that Eddie ended up being one of the people that did the HARP (is that the name of it?) thing with his mortgage and got back on track.  I know that the whole financial collapse did a number on the real estate industry and people ended up severely underwater, especially if they had done piggyback loans or had an ARM.  So I could see if that was the case for Eddie.

I don't know why Shannon keeps telling everyone that her twins were conceived after a Def Leppard concert.  I'd be less than thrilled with her doing that if I were one of her kids, although I imagine it's one of the smaller gripes they have with her, given the way she played out the cheating/divorce thing.  

They are a band from the 80s, but they are still touring.  Look at Bret Michaels, there's a market for them.

Porsha was less tainted by it because she was told the information from Phaedra.  She was acting on something she believed to be true (now, she should have tried to verify it or talked to Kandi about it or something, rather than just assuming Phaedra was right), but, she didn't just randomly make the shit up.  Phaedra KNEW it wasn't true, she just made the shit up to start some shit.  That's the reason she was the one who went down for it, she flat out lied to Porsha, and then left Porsha hanging out in the breeze when the time came to back her up when Porsha was confronted about the situation.

They sneak in late at night and pull futon mattresses across the treadmills to sleep.

The draw for my for the Gina storyline is sheer schadenfreude. I will not duplicate the posts in which it was clear last season that the idea of a family living in Orange County for no reason while the husband had a job and apartment in Los Angeles made no sense. 

The only reason people would have that kind of split living situation is if the family had school age children who were settled and it was temporary while the kids finished the school year. But Gina had absolutely no reason to continue to live in Orange County except that she didn't want to rock the bock and Matt wanted to be able to live free in Los Angeles.

I was with the other women completely in the skepticism because parents of young children do not decide to separate or divorce if they are on good terms and having good sex with no discernible reason to not be married. Not that I think that you are a complete martyr to your children in a horrendous relationship but if there is nothing wrong with the marriage, then you do try to stay together so the kids have an intact family. Not that Shannon is a role model god knows but much more realistic that the spouse is miserable but puts up with it for as long as possible until there is some kind of reason it is no longer possible to hide one's head in the sand.

So yeah no surprise and it will be fascinating to watch the future demise of the Gina facade crumble. As others have posted, that Housewives check is the only income for the family now as I would imagine Matt is toxic in terms of a job at the executive level he had. I believe he was with PIMCO.

Simon had lost his job and the short sale occurred in the midst of the real estate melt down. I think the finances of both Tamra and Simon have fully recovered from his job loss and the impact of the recession. 

Purportedly Tamra made $600,000 for the last season and she has additional income from all her promotional activities. I would suspect that Cut is at least self supporting as there is no particular reason for them to run it as a vanity project and there wouldn't be huge ongoing costs.

I don't understand why people think it is outside Tamra's purchasing power to support the house. She doesn't seem to have extraordinary expenses at this point - to a great extent a lot of her lifestyle is subsidized in terms of entertainment and travel expenses because all of her stuff is comped. When she posts on her social media accounts it is a quid pro quo for being comped or if she is shown eating or using a product, she is paid a fee. That's why having as many followers as possible is so desirable - because you are paid a lot of money to promote stuff based on your followers.

The purchase price for Tamra's Cota house was actually $1.78 and they sold Eddie's house for $1.75. It's not a significant price increase for someone with her probable income. 

I had never heard of Cota prior to Real Housewives and I don't think it's one of the really desirable locations in Orange County. The coastal communities are far more desirable and expensive in terms of what your real estate dollar will buy.

I am a self-admitted cynic, so whenever I hear that someone over 40 conceived twins, I do not believe that it happened spontaneously at a Def Leppard concert...unless Def Leppard is the name of their fertility clinic.

I can't believe no one mentioned this yet--the hostess who seated the women at that Tortilla restaurant referred to them as "you guyzez" twice.  Two times.  At first I thought it was Gina, because you know, that's how people tawk on Long GuyLand.  At least she can apply for a job there when she inevitably gets cut from this show.

Y'all...I didn't know what a train was, I was wrong!  My entire life, I thought it was...um a specific type of threesome, where is woman is giving oral sex to a man who is standing while she is having sexual intercourse with another man from behind at the same time.  I thought it was named train, because it kind of resembled a steam train if you use your imagination

My position based only on my intuition is sort of like Goldie Locks and The Three Bears (no pun intended)--I think do believe there is more than gossip and innuendo, but I don't believe Kelly was in one room where men were lined up in another room to fuck her.  I think it's somewhere in between--that Kelly had a graphic sexual experience.  She probably had group sex with just men.  And it doesn't faze me if she did, just like it doesn't faze me if she did some lines back in the day.  I couldn't care less if it happened, but I don't believe that she didn't do anything, and if I get a sense that someone is lying, that's when I start to care.  That sounds just about right.  I mean, correct.  I'll see myself out now...
