Does anyone have a picture/screenshot of Meri's first hat?  The one she didn't like?

TIA.

I don’t know if this is what you mean. These are the hats they wore at the restaurant the day they tried hats on.

I don't know what the scale is. Is this good, bad, average?

That's why I've been adding the rank on the cable show of the day.  12th for the day is good.  For TLC these are good ratings, not great, but quite good enough to keep them on the air as long as the cost to produce it is reasonable.

It's usually related to self-esteem. Being overly shy, being socially awkward, wanting to blend in and not stand out or be noticed, not having rhythm, fear of failure and not measuring up to others, etc. For some people dancing in public is almost like going naked in public and in their minds both are rated equally as difficult. We don't expect anyone to walk around nude but we expect everyone to dance.

I agree with this. My father suffers from mild social anxiety and for him, dancing is completely out of the question, to the point where he told me in advance he would not dance with me at the traditional "parent-child dance" at my high school graduation. My grad class was so unusually huge that we could only invite 2 spectators to the graduation ceremony which lead into the dance, so rather than being the only kid without any sort of partner, I disinvited him and my grandfather escorted me instead.

My father must have felt bad about it because he made a point of, grudgingly, telling my younger sister he would dance with her grad 3 years later. She told him she assumed he wouldn't because he refused me, and she had already invited Papa instead.

I had a difficult relationship with my father and at the time, it felt like just one more thing he wouldn't do for me. As I've matured, I've learned more about social anxiety and understand how he must have felt. In addition to being equated with going naked in public, the same feelings about being the centre of attention no matter the circumstances, are also part of social anxiety. My intelligent, rational father must have known that nobody would be staring at him, but his social anxiety would tell him that EVERYBODY would be staring and judging, and it would be AWFUL. It must be a very difficult way to live.

My issue throughout the entire 2 hours was Aspyn's behavior.  It was bizarre to me, not just at the wedding, but, throughout.  She just seemed too flippant, ditsy, silly, and trying way too hard.  I posted about her on another thread about whether TLC was portraying her that way, but, now I'm wondering if they were just airing what they saw.  I'm shocked.  Such a lovely young lady.  I wonder if she will ever mature anymore at this point.  It's difficult to imagine that she is in college. I actually thought Kody's speech was okay, but, the man is an egomaniac.  I think he knows it though.

I was a bit surprised at her nervous behavior too - she turned into her mother and couldn't quit talking when nervous! I hope Mitch had seen that side of her before he married her.  Not that it's a no-deal type of thing but it was just a little like -holy crap, contain yourself woman!

The other thing I forgot to comment on was Kody's hair.  It seems like he wants his hair to look like Meri's.   I don't think that style looks good on middle age people, but I know a few young people that wear their hair like that and look fine.  Probably the younger people have hair that is in much better condition to start.

I don't think scrunched hair looks good on anyone, regardless of age, but middle-aged people like Meg Ryan, Kootie & Meri look horribly unkempt, not "young" or whatever they are going for.  People with fine or thinning hair should go for shorter cuts that work with their hair type.

Sorry that I wasn't clear.  I read that Meri didn't like the original hat that Hannah made for her to wear to the wedding, so the night before the wedding she was at Hannah's house VERY LATE to get Hannah to make her a different hat.  I was just wondering how bad the first hat was.

The hat Hannah brought for the wedding was nothing like any Meri tried on in Seattle. It had huge flowers (like on the wedding cake) and was very high, reminiscent of one of Minnie Pearl's hats on Hee Haw.  We think Hannah may have been punking Meri since the other 3 got the hats they wanted.  Hannah had to stay up late taking out the flowers and chopping down the black net to a reasonable size.

Thanks - hadn't had a chance to actually watch the episode, so I wasn't sure what everyone was talking about.  Your explanation helps a lot!

If Cody dies before Christine, she will really wish she had been legally married, as she won't qualify for SS. Not sure if TLC would count towards  SS for them all, but I doubt it, and she has never worked another job?

Much of the case for legalizing or decriminalizing is reasonable but there's no getting around the fact that the children who are eventually involved are the ones who need protection. I don't know how or if the rest of the world has dealt with it successfully - but the western world hasn't.

I honestly didn't think the hat was that bad at all. Meri never turned towards the cameras so we never saw what it looked like on her. I can't help but feel that it was all made up for the show. The last hat Meri tried on in Seattle was quite dramatic-looking, so I don't get what the big deal was with this one.

Meri should have worn the hat as it was originally.  The other attendees would have been so fascinated by her fascinator, their eyes may never have fallen upon her overstuffed sausage LLNo dress and her edgy wedgies.

IMO Mitch's dad found it difficult to hide his distaste/disapproval because Kody and his wives live way far outside fundie norms, and blast it on TV. Kody"s "sacred marital bed" comment was fresh in his mind, as was the hamming it up/flashing his underwear while getting dressed. Me, me, me, I, I.

It"s been rumored that the AUB gave the Browns the boot awhile back, Logan and Michelle live in sin and enjoy their whiskey, add Mariah/Audrey to the mix, etc etc.

I think he is appalled by the Browns and wasn't able to hide it.

What I can't figure out is why Hannah made a hat for Meri that was so different than the one she tried on and liked in Seattle.

Why not just make another hat like that one or bring that hat for her?

Instead Hannah makes one with big flowers that looked a bit like fried eggs from a distance... Creamy with yellowish center.

I didn't think the hat looked bad out of the box but when they showed Meri trying it on it did look VERY tall.  I didn't think it was that outrageously different than the crazy one she said she liked in Seattle.  Which was not the one she ended up wearing to lunch that day.

Did no one show Aspyn, Mitch and the parents how to walk down an aisle? They all walked with big galumping strides rather than with smaller, more graceful steps. I know they were outside on rough ground rather than a smooth floor, but one can walk gracefully on grass.

(I know, I know, Kody and gracefully should never be used in the same sentence. But at least Aspyn could have looked more graceful.)

I think it means 1,520,000 viewers. Ranked 12th.   Here's the link that I think is where the info came from. Please chime in, if you think it's different.  I find those charts confusing.

http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-sunday-cable-originals-network-finals-3-17-2019.html

To put it into perspective, for Cable stations, Walking Dead is ranked on that website as No. 1 with over 4 million viewers, no. 2, Real Housewives of Atlanta with over 2 million, Alaskan Bush People no. 10 and Sister Wives is no. 12.  Married to Medicine LA was no. 15.  and at the bottom is listed as no. 150.  So, I suppose coming in as no. 12 isn't too bad at all. Especially, for as long as its been running.

Thank you! They walked too fast and I kept screaming at Aspyn to stand up tall and glide. She slumped side to side as she walked while Kody stomped/marched in is too short kilt. What a train wreck.

I have not liked Mitch this season since I felt like he didn't care for Aspyn. However, I was impressed with the way he carried himself in this episode. He was the only one who impressed me (at least a little).

One of the few times I'll admit to agreeing with Meri.  That's pretty awful.

But then, I thought Hannah looked awful at the wedding, too.  Mother of the groom with her too-tight dress slit up her thigh?  Are she and Mitch's father still married?  She looked like she was tossing out bait to find a new fish.

That hat on Meri looks like something from Alice in Wonderland.  She wanted edgy didn't she?

I don't think I liked anyone's dress.  Mother of the groom had zero taste in tarted up look.  The SW's dresses mostly didn't fit and definitely didn't look coordinated.  I didn't look closely at the kids except Mariah's looked too floaty for her figure and all I could think of Pudge's was the thighs hanging out.

I have to say Aspyn's hair was gorgeous.  Did they say how much they paid for the dress?  It looked like one of the cheap polyester satin ones that cost around $200 to $400.  They rarely look good on a body.

I don’t really understand why it would be a great idea for Christine to buy the house while they are building the others? I highly doubt she would be gaining any equity and now she is stuck with a mortgage she can’t get out of if they can’t later get renters. They all have to be mortgaged to the hilt and, if they need a loan, I don’t think it’s going to happen. I have a hard time believing they could not all find smaller, cheaper homes.

I need someone to explain LuluRoe to me. Is it like Avon? Is it a MLM? I get Meri may be doing well, for now, because she can use her “celebrity” to bring in customers but how long can it last? Even the people I know who sold Avon just used it as a side gig. It wasn’t anyone’s full-time job. I will give Meri credit for being the only one in the family actually bringing in money that isn’t a check from TLC. So now Maddie, Mykelti and Mariah’s fiancée sell it as well? Wouldn’t it be easier to get a real job? I get it may be a good idea for a stay at home mom like Maddie but what excuse do the others have for not obtaining a real job? Can you really pay your bills with this type of employment?

The Brown weddings remind me of Duggar weddings. They go from tacky to, finally, almost getting it right. I guess TLC can be thanked for the progression.

I watch a lot of real estate shows and there are a lot of cheaper homes, In the same general area as the Brown homes, that are much nicer. I also cannot imagine how much it costs to cool those homes during the summer.

Yes LulaRoe is an MLM and a struggling one at that! The company is facing lawsuits and losing consultants left and right. The buy-in is huge-- I've heard you have to pay anywhere from $1500 to $4000 or more for your initial inventory that you are then left on your own to sell. And yes, they all sell it. Mykelti even recently quit her job at a bank to do so full time.

I once saw a YouTube reviewer that explained the hideous prints on LLR clothes: they're made from scrap material that LLR buys from other companies. LLR makes however many ugly leggings/ dresses/blouses/ skirts they can get out of that scrap material and sells it with an enormous markup. If it makes 500 pairs of leggings, that's how many people can buy leggings with that print. If it makes 2000 skirts, that's how many people get that print of the skirt. And so on. That's why the prints are "limited."

Unpopular opinion but I thought Mariah looked heinous, as usual. Why was she wearing black lipstick?!?!

Aspyn, though beautiful, is such an airhead. Maybe it’s nerves, but she sounded so immature during the vows and the couch interviews. Pretty much every time she spoke I cringed. My 12 year old daughter is more mature and polished than Aspyn.

Mitch looked so much better AFTER the wedding when his beard was trimmed. I did not care for the long beard he sported at the wedding.

Mitch’s mom was dressed inappropriately at the wedding, IMO. Tight, off the shoulder dress with a thigh-high slit, and red stripper heels. Stay classy!

Christine is selling it now too...This will dry up quickly for all of them. Now there are too many sellers in the "family" and they will compete for the same crop of clients. Supply is greater than demand at this point. Plus the company itself is toast. I think Meri should take her profits and invest in something else quickly. The others are likely to sink.

I am really surprised  that people are still doing Luluroe. I remember a year or two ago, there was a lot of coverage about people having tons of the inventory (that they bought as part of their inventory kit) and they were unable to sell it to customers for decent pricing. They were unloading it just to get some $$ back. This was, as I said, a year or two ago so go figure that these uptodate stellar entrepreneurs are into it now.....yeah go figure.

I think most of the dealers are SAHM's who fell for the story of making millions and never leaving home.  Most of them were women with limited education and low self esteem so it was easy to keep turning the screws with the "if you fail, it's your own fault" until they were piling on the debt by buying more and more ugly rags.  Once they ran out of friends and family to guilt into buying it was too late to recoup much of their loss.

But like all pyramid schemes, there is a new layer of recruits being suckered in.

The owners are ostensibly socking away every cent in offshore accounts as the ax falls on their empire.  The further down the line you are, the more you lose.  Meri recruited all of the family so she stands to lose the least but the others will be SOL.  Nice way to treat the relatives, Mer.

Mormons are big on supporting each other's MLM/pyramid schemes. They rise and fall so fast it makes my head spin. First they're selling this, then it's that, then it's the next thing and on and on it goes. Why follow the latest trends by giving your money to a gentile stranger when you can give it to Sister Smith in the ward? Stay tuned, in a few months she'll be selling something else.

The LLR founder has mormon somewhere in her pedigree and that's all it took, honestly. The first item was a long skirt suitable for wearing to church - bam! Add the factor that the name comes from combining the names of her granddaughters and OMG, For Cute! Two billion dollars later ... SMH. I've seen a lot with them but nothing like LLR. Their culture glorifies the SAHM and that's who LLR targets.

After the collapse, I hope the owners end up serving federal time.

It reminds me of my sister in law... Her family are jehovah witness and they were all selling Artex fabric paint stuff years ago then that ended and they all hopped on the vitamin bandwagon... Can't recall the name of the vitamins but my brothers house was full of them, special containers for dispensing them and powders that you add to water and drink... Etc, etc.

My sister in law isn't a JW.....  But her family pushes all this junk on her and she didn't know how to say No.... Once the cupboards were full and then the pantry started to fill up my brother stepped in and said ENOUGH!!

I think my sister in law was secretly relieved that she didn't have to be the bad cop.  😉

Meri should have told Hannah to make her one that was the same as what she tried on in Seattle.

I think Meri's hairstyle is way too messy casual for a fancy hat like that... I think she'd look better with something more like Robyn's hat.

Exactly what I thought as well. I actually changed my mind about Mitch (at least for now). I saw his face light up when he talked about her, when he opened the marriage certificate and when he saw her coming toward him at the wedding. I still have not watched this whole episode. I'm watching in 3 sessions because 2 hours of the Browns at one sitting takes a lot out of you. lol But I'm with everyone on how obnoxious Aspyn's giggling at the altar is. Geez. GTFU Aspyn - you're about to be a married woman (well, she is now, but was on the verge of it at that moment).

Yet, she was (in my opinion) dressed inappropriately for that type of wedding.  Was she rubbing the SWs nose in the fact that she could dress sexy and they couldn't, or was it an attempt to upstage the bride? I think she looked nice for a night of clubbing, but maybe not so much for the "mother of the groom" role.

My husband's mother was the same way.  I don't know if you saw the wedding photo I posted, but her dress was fairly low cut and showed an ample amount of boobs - and she was the mother of the groom.  Polygamists are as varied as any group of people.     I think that is just Hannah's personality, I don't think she was trying to make any points to the Brown wives.

Thinking about your comment . . . I think you've just described a female Kody!!!  Other than I don't think many of us think of him as having spunk and high individualism.  We just think he's a narcissist.  Maybe Hannah is, too.

ETA:  Which may explain why her husband looked totally fed up when Kody was giving his speech at the reception.  He was thinking, "Oh, crap.  There's a male one who is just like her."

Are wedding customs different out west from the south?  I thought I heard Christine comment about the food at the rehearsal dinner, as if she provided it.  In the south, it is customary for the groom and/or his family to pay for and host the rehearsal dinner.

Are wedding customs different out west from the south?  I thought I heard Christine comment about the food at the rehearsal dinner, as if she provided it.  In the south, it is customary for the groom and/or his family to pay for and host the rehearsal dinner.

In the west it is the groom's family responsibility, too.
