Teena June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 Anyone else feel uncomfortable listening to Derick and his pants-wearing mom (what a hussy! LOL) talk about the bulge in his pants? My husband (who hates this show) heard that comment and very dryly mentioned that "the jokes write themselves on this show"...which made me LOL..... Something else that made my husband guffaw: after Derick asked JimBob for Jill's hand in marriage, he said he felt "a release"...which my husband thought was absolutely priceless. 7 Link to comment
Lopethina June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 How can Jill really know if Derick is "slow to anger" based on their current interactions? They are in the early stages of a relationship and are never alone. It usually take a while before that first fight and typically it is when no one else is around. I'm in no way condoning their approach to picking a mate, but I feel confident in saying Derick is slow to anger, while Ben is quick to anger. That said, none of these girls have the real-world experience to pick up on these traits either way, so your point still stands. 1 Link to comment
BitterApple June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 I think "the jokes write themselves" should be the sub-title of any forum related to the Duggars. I never caught Derick saying "he felt a release," how did I miss such a gem? Between that, "the bulge in his pants," and the hand sex, I feel like I'm watching soft-core porn! 1 Link to comment

Ben gives off the same vibes as a married in relative of mine who-shall-remain-nameless who keeps his family quite under his thumb because of his own insecurities. I feel sorry for Jessa if she marries him because she will likely be manipulated and emotionally bullied for the rest of her life. Derick seems quite secure with himself and looks like he would treat Jill like a queen (much like JB treats J'Chelle, however I think Derick wouldn't hump his wife in public or go on about his sex life in front of his kids). 2 Link to comment

Ljohnson1987 June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 The song that Derrick wrote for Jill is on iTunes and Amazon now. Wow. The Duggars will do anything to make a buck. At least it was somewhat better than that awful song that Smuggar sang to Anna at their wedding. The Duggars are all famewhores. Boob and Mullet will take any opportunity to be on TV, and steal the spotlight. I would've been fine with just Jill and Derrick. It was about them, after all. 1 Link to comment

mythoughtis June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 (edited) Truthfully, I doubt the Duggars are making any money from the song. Walker wrote it and agreed to perform most likely under the theory that HE got to keep the rights to the song. Maybe Derrick and Jill together will make some percentage, but I hope Jim Bob gets nothing. Because, I think he and Michelle have formed a corporation to get the TLC money, and probably consider all the offspring volunteers rather than employees. BitterApple June 6, 2014 Share June 6, 2014 I hope all the money goes to the artist, but we're talking about the Duggars here. I could see Boob making sure Derick got some sort of writing or production credit so he and Jill could profit. Link to comment
Sew Sumi June 6, 2014 Share June 6, 2014 The proposal was nice (sweet, there I said it). Jill was expecting it, because they had probably been discussing the possibility just like normal couples do. Very few men are going to propose unless they have an inkling the woman will be saying yes. I have to sound off like everyone else that Michelle couldn't just BE QUIET and let Derick and Jill make their announcement. I gagged when Derick and Jill commented that they 'had gotten permission' to hold hands now.... aren't they the ones making their courtship rules? But, of course, we know they aren't. The wedding dress staged event was sad, neither Jill nor Jessa wanted to try on the dresses (who doesn't want to try on wedding dresses? Jessa was superstitious (kind of odd for a fundy ... wouldn't that be blasphemy of a sort?). I think it was an attempt to include the audience in seeing Jill in a wedding dress, and that the actual wedding dress purchase will not be televised. Loved, loved seeing Derick and his Mom. Such natural closeness, she wore pants, and acted like a MOM who knew her son and wanted to make him less nervous. I saw no advice like that for Josh when he was going to ask Anna to marry him. There is (IMO) something wrong with Josie, maybe on the autism scale. What was all that fake fly routine, and then eating same? She's old enough now to know better than that in a TH segment. Of course, Jana must not have been present. Jim Bob is such a bad actor. He knew very well that Derick had a job offer, and was taking it. That would have already been one of the group texts/phone calls. By the time Derick asked Boob for Jill's hand (end of February) he'd already been back home for a month. His LinkedIn indicates that he's been at WalMart since January, which fits with his timeline. So Boob knew Derick had more than a job offer, he knew that he had a 9-5 JOB. But that doesn't work with the Interrogate the Boyfriend storyline they wanted to sell. 1 Link to comment

Morgalisa June 7, 2014 Share June 7, 2014 (edited) When Michelle complimented Derick's mother on raising such a good son, his mother replied. "I used the same instruction book that you used." What book is that? Also, in the shot of Jessa without makeup it appeared that she had very bad, pitted skin on the right side of her face. Maybe that is why she wears such heavy makeup. Now I keep looking at that side of her face and it looks different. In the later shot where her hair was kind of different, her lip looked a little puffy on that side especially. Almost like an allergic reaction. Edited June 7, 2014 by maraleia changed name from Ben to Derick Link to comment

floridamom June 8, 2014 Share June 8, 2014 I find Michelle usually doesn't shut her mouth. She's babbling about something with that screechy voice and squeaky fake laugh. When they "tried to show her" cooking eggs, and one of the litter boys was talking about her doing so, she obviously was trying to "shut him up" from saying something unscripted, like "she NEVER does that"...it was so obvious to me. She was uncomfortable in front of a stove; because it's new territory to her. Getting back to the proposal, her narration wasn't necessary again...I didn't see a mother who is truly happy for her daughter..I saw a woman acting for the camera. On the other hand, Derick's mother is genuine. I don't think she thinks too much of Michelle, yet she is remaining gracious...let's see how long she can keep that up. I hope she doesn't "swallow everything" the Duggars throw at her for her son's sake....he has to take a stand too, or he will be sucked up in the process. Jill needs to bend too and maybe have a TV in the house and actually watch it. Link to comment
PecanSandie June 8, 2014 Share June 8, 2014 With the addition of each new family member by marriage, the ability of Jim Bob and Michelle to control everything drops. They can't control what other people say and Derick's mom made that very clear on this episode! Only a very small sliver of fundydom likes/respects Jim & Michelle. Everyone else sees them as overly proud cultists who follow Bill Gothard instead of Jesus. 3 Link to comment
Sew Sumi June 8, 2014 Share June 8, 2014 Boob does have an element of control though. He (or the Duggar Trust) owns the house in which Jerick will reside. He just HAS to have that leverage to keep his adult, married children under his thumb. He did the same with Smuggar (however, once the babies came, Smuggar started to get his own checks), and will likely tether Benessa to him in some way. Kid needs a real JOB if he's going to marry Jessa. I don't think TLC is going to divvy up checks for the girls until they give birth to their first children. Link to comment
PecanSandie June 8, 2014 Share June 8, 2014 What I mean is that Jim Bob can't control all the extended family members. Derick might marry Jill, but his family is making it obvious that they are not one bit impressed with the famewhore Duggar life. So I see that attitude as multiplying as the kids marry. We saw that somewhat even when Anna married and they couldn't control what one of the inlaws posted at Free Jinger. The number of people who are going to be privy to the inner workings is going to keep multiplying. So while Jim Bob and Michelle can yes indeed continue to try and control their adult children as they do now, there will be more and more people to expose what's really going on. But Jim Bob and Michelle can't stop it. And I suspect that some people in their own movement are growing tired of them because they see the Duggar's doing a lot of things that they as a group consider to be sinful. Like the girls wearing very tight and shorter skirts and tight tops. The stripper girl eyeshadow. Dating people who are not ATI and therefore considered compromisers. I mean, you and I would probably like Derick a lot and think him to be somewhat conservative but still nice. But the ATI people view Derick as a worldy compromiser who has no standards. 2 Link to comment

This makes me wonder why Derick didn't just get an apartment. If he's been working since January he's had plenty of time to get a deposit together and find somewhere decent. You can't tell me that rent would be astronomically high in Arkansas. Not to mention that is one big house for two people to clean. 1 Link to comment

I live in NW Arkansas too, & my DS has been getting therapies since age 2. About Walmart- funny they can't mention it since the proposal on the square was right in front of the striped awning of the Walmart Museum, LOL! One question- it was mentioned earlier about them finding kittens. Can you tell me about this? We adopted a baby orange tabby a yr ago & at the shelter they told us a Duggar dropped him off. It may have been one of the kittens that Mullet kept in a pitcher, I remember some of them being orange. Or perhaps it could have been one of those kitties offspring. I don't think that the Duggars would allow or pay for getting their animals neutered. Link to comment
mythoughtis June 9, 2014 Share June 9, 2014 (edited) I doubt that Derrick is making a large salary just yet, this is his first accounting job. He probably got an offer close to the minimum of the pay scale for the job. He's also most likely paying the chaperones way every time he takes Jill out, plus is probably going out with his friends and family that he hasn't seen in 2 years. He's also got costs of his own to pay for this wedding,,,, groomsman gifts will probably cost him a fortune. He's probably also been paying rent to live in his parents home(most 25 year olds with a job should). About Jill's comments while trying on the wedding dress (being comfortable in, rather than mentioning modesty), she's been out in the 'work force' for a while. My guess is that she has either attended some employee training about diversity, read some in her textbooks, or heard about any new orientation course that Derick took at Wal-mart. She may have come to realize that insulting others because they are not like you doesn't play well in the work force. Edited June 10, 2014 by mythoughtis 1 Link to comment
