merriebreeze October 19, 2018 Share October 19, 2018 (edited) I see that Meghan has jumped on the "Jim Acosta is bad" bandwagon. That's a dangerous meme Trump is promoting. Just last night at the Montana rally this happened: Quote Jim Acosta tweets: The disturbing part of Trump’s jokes about Gianforte was the effect on the crowd. I saw one young man in the crowd making body slam gestures. He looked at me and ran his thumb across his throat. I talked to him after the rally was over. He couldn’t stop laughing. Singling out reporters by name just might encourage some unhinged person to go after them physically. Edited October 19, 2018 by merriebreeze 19 Link to comment

Popular Post General Days October 19, 2018 Popular Post Share October 19, 2018 (edited) Oh my goodness. Meghan must be feeling better. She's in peak Whataboutism form today, and Abby is her backup singer. Trump, who has repeatedly called the press the enemy of the people, has been lying about and then brushing off the brutal murder of a Washington Post reporter who was a US resident and is the father of US citizens. That was the topic of conversation, and then McCan't made this pivot. Quote MEGHAN: But when we're talking about freedom of press in this country, in particular, Jamal Khashoggi was a Saudi dissident who was doing the Lord's work, trying to get real news stories out of a -- to put it lightly, uh, you know -- horrific nation that does things like this to people who speak out. And I do think it's incredibly tone-deaf at this moment to be advocating towards (sic) any violence against journalists whatsoever, especially given that it -- look what can happen -- if you decide to actually take that on. That being said, yesterday, Jim Acosta, who works for CNN, uh direct messaged a former Trump suppor-porter in a Twitter message saying, "Blank you," to Justin Caporale [ed. note: McCan't pronounced this like "corporal," but you say it cap-or-AH-lay] who's the former Director of Operations for Melania Trump. So, I hold everyone to a standard -- the president and the press. Let's rise above this. We're at a tone in this country. Let's be respectful. I don't think that helps anything. SUNNY (who tried to cut in before MM's last sentence): I will say this about Jim Acosta-- JOY: Are you equating Trump with, who can't lead, can't govern, who only [ed. note: MM starts interrupting and it's hard to make out the words] who only spews hate-speech with the press? MEGHAN: No, but I'm saying when there's an anger towards the press -- which there is, with a lot of conservatives and Republicans -- JOY: Yeah? MEGHAN: But on the other side, the press also has to -- I'm sorry but you know, Edward R. Murrow probably wouldn't be saying, "Blank you," to someone in a direct message. JOY: He didn't have a president who was like this. SUNNY: [while Meghan was interrupting, Sunny tried to say something like, "I do want to say Jim Acosta"] MEGHAN: I'm not equating it it. I'm saying-- SUNNY: Jim Acosta is a friend of mine. So let me say this. That was out of character for him. He has apologized for it, but let's remember that Jim Acosta's the same person that's been covering Trump and the campaign, and had death threats directed at him. He's also had, you know, people chanting in his face, "CNN sucks!" My good friend, Don Lemon, has had death threats -- uh blamed a lot of the Trump um rallies and sort of that fervor on the death threats against a lot of CNN reporters in Atlanta. My colleagues -- my former colleagues are afraid to go to work, so I think the tone comes from the top. I don't recall a time when we heard this kind of attack on freedom of the press, on our First Amendment, and I think it started with this president. MEGHAN [cross-talk with Joy]: I-- JOY [cross-talk with Meghan]: Nixon was good at it too. MEGHAN: Yeah that's true. Sunny, I know you. I know you. You're also a journalist. You wouldn't do that. SUNNY: No, I wouldn't. MEGHAN: You would not. So there are standards. SUNNY [cross-talk with Joy]: I may want to, but I wouldn't. JOY [cross-talk with Sunny]: (Something) the guy -- you know, if you push somebody to the wall, they're going to react. MEGHAN: I'm just think that I'm trying-I'm really trying right now, to hold myself to the stame (sic) standards that I would hope that would be in the spirit of where I come from, and the family I come from, and I hope across the board, the Trumps could maybe just take a beat, when one of our journalists has been slaughtered, in the Middle East... SUNNY [talking over Meghan]: Yeah JOY [interjecting, because how the heck else can anyone get a word in edgewise]: They can't because it works for their base. It works for them. That's why he won't take a beat. MEGHAN [talking over Joy]: I'm not-- SUNNY [interjecting]: But why do they believe him? Why do they-- ABBY [interrupting, but I can't criticize her for trying to be part of the show]: (something maybe about 'across the board') I do think, today, more journalists are making the stories about themselves, and they're saying things, and they get away with things that to Meghan's point, they never would have... JOY (softly): Ugh ABBY [continuing]: ...years ago, and so it starts from the top, right? The fish stinks from the head on down... JOY [interjecting]: Yeah. Thank you. ABBY: And so their leadership matters, but at the same time, I think the media does play a role today, and doesn't make things better. They make it about themselves. MEGHAN [cross-talk with Joy]: (unintelligible)... lead JOY [cross-talk with Meghan]: (unintelligible)... he's saying the press is lying, that the press is the enemy of the people. What do you expect the press to do? MEGHAN [interrupting]: But if he's not going to lead... JOY [continuing]: They're not saints. They're just journalists. MEGHAN: So he's not going to lead. So, we're almost two years into this administration. We hold ourselves accountable. We're television commentators, (gestures toward Sunny) journalists as well. I just think that if he can't do it, and he can't be the example, we have to be the example that we don't have. JOY: Okay. Let's -- well, when we come back, maybe we'll talk about the fact that one of the people running for the Senate tried it, and it didn't work, you're right. We'll be right back with more Hot Topics. I started watching the show basically on time. It's now 12:45pm, and I've gotten eight minutes in. (I did stop to make more coffee, eat a banana, and do a hasty proofread.) Meghan is such a phony with her tone comments. I'm pretty sure I could go to her Twitter page and find her telling a bunch of people to eff off, and not in direct messages. Don't tell me you've never told anyone to eff off, Meghan, and don't start citing your family as some bastion of civilized speech. Your dad is the guy that altered the old song "Barbara Ann" to "Bomb Iran," and let plenty of F-bombs fly, face-to-face with a female reporter on camera. RHJunkie October 19, 2018 Share October 19, 2018 Sunny's got a beautiful family and good God she wears 50 well. She looks incredible. The moment Meghan started acknowledging something bad Trump did, I just KNEW she was going to follow it up with something a Democrat said. A Democrat journalist saying F U to someone from the Trump administration is FAR less severe than a Fox news person accusing mass shooting victims of being paid actors yet THAT was the example Meghan used of journalists stooping below the dignity of their job. She doesn't hold everyone to the same standard because if she did, she would recognize that tweeting F U to someone is not even the same stratosphere as someone of a high authority making light and condoning physical violence against the press. Consistent and fair my ass. If you aren't equating it then why are you saying it to begin with? Don't bring up examples unless they make sense to the conversation you simpleton. I did really like her look today. The pattern looked great on her and I think she should do belted looks more often. I thought she pulled it off great. I really liked that they tied so much of Sunny into the show. Enjoyed her segment with her former boss and co-worker. 12 Link to comment
TheGreenKnight October 19, 2018 Share October 19, 2018 I noticed they didn't talk about Beto O'Rourke today as advertised after Joy handed Meh-gun her ass on a platter for elevating Jim Acosta to the same level as a president--on top of McCain trying unsuccessfully to re-write recent history when Trump began this game by egging on violence, vitriol, and death threats against journalists everywhere in this country. Call out your own party first, Meh-gun, then you can lecture other people on civility and "standards" you clearly don't have. Birthday shows are boring--and in the case of Meh-gun's and Whoopi's birthday specials, unbearable--but I liked that Sunny was given a cameo on one of her favorite shows. I've watched in a disinterested way this past week. The only thing that comes to mind that I remember was how hot DJ from Roseanne got at some point. I never expected that. Everything else (Abby talking about a friend who was beat to death only to say he was blind and apparently still living in the next breath; Meh-gun claiming to be one of those average folk from the middle of the country despite spending her entire life in the lap of luxury) was already pointed out by the great posters here. 15 Link to comment
maggiemae October 20, 2018 Share October 20, 2018 (edited) Gee - I always thought Arizona was in the SW. Who knew it was the middle? ETA - I liked today's show because I like Sunny a lot despite some of her faults. I think she lives a very interesting life filled with love and family and lots of friends. Bronzedog October 20, 2018 Share October 20, 2018 I like Sunny, I really do, but, at least 2 people mentioned her showing up at other people’s houses with an entourage. She even mentioned she was partying at Joy’s with a bunch of her friends and didn’t realize Joy had gone to bed. I think it’s great that she has so many good friends, but, that would drive me up a wall. 16 Link to comment

Producers: Please put together a 30-minute SHRIEKS clip show that Meghan is forced to watch. That dress was beautiful. They could use a shrieking compilation on her Birthday show (with Joy turning down the volume). That dress was the first nice outfit Meghan has worn since she started 1 year ago. 3 Link to comment

She has worn jeans and a blouse or sweater and looked much better. Some female bodies do not look great in a dress. Meggie looks like she is thirty pounds lighter when she is not in a dress. 8 Link to comment
