They grew up attending the same homeschool conferences together for about 18 years, but officially met when he flew to Oklahoma for a church event. They started “courting” in June, 2018 and got married in November, 2018.

JD flew his parents to the conference. He just happened to run into Abbie there.

They really do. It almost makes JD look, well, maybe not exactly handsome, but a good, solid average, with some extra points for congeniality. He really seems to have shed that sort of creepy Duggarish vibe that they all grew up with.

I feel like the Duggar boys might be considered "handsome" if they had been allowed to develop their own personalities and interests instead of the cookie cutter Wonder Bread aura they all seem to have had when they were younger, instilled in them by Meech and JB.  Same with the Rod kids - who knows what potential talents have been stifled in all of these kids because they were never allowed to grow as individual humans?

I do agree, JD looks to be the most naturally happy of all of his siblings.

Or at least have people be able to tell the boys' apart. The Duggar sisters were easy to tell apart Jana does everything,  Jill parrots whatever her parents' say, Jessa's a bitch, and Jinger wants live in a city. The boys? Except for Golden Boy and John David who has a plane. Before the plane John David stood out as much as the rest of the boys.

I still can't quite tell most of the boys apart, but that's as much because I was never able to remember which name went with which face as because the faces themselves are so cookie-cutter similar. Somehow, the girls' faces always seemed easier to differentiate.

With the oldest girls especially, they all have distinctive enough faces that, IMO, it has always been far easier to tell them apart than any of the boys or even the younger girls.

It also helps they were older on the show and got way more air time. The girls courted and had tv weddings. Once in a while they had interests, real or scripted that gave a tiny hint of different personality. Jill likes midwifery or whatever.

The kids younger than Josiah were mostly shown running in a feral pack. No difference one from the next.

Yeah very true. The older girls all had personas, such as they were, or at least somewhat individual vibes.

I agree that they always look happy. He was always dorky, but he just seemed like a complete non-entity. I think they're really happy together and they don't appear to be in the breeding derby which is great for the whole family. I think that moving out, and getting some autonomy and having someone that he could actually talk to really opened up a whole new world for him. It's just night and day.

It helps that Abbie seems to be her own person with a degree and an actual profession. Living with someone like that had to have been good for JD.

I think Abbie and John have made a great couple. It had to have helped that they didn't rush into marriage so young and John was a bit stealth rather than involving his father from the beginning.  John had perfected staying off JB's watch by that point.  Abbie completed an LPN or LVN type nursing program.  I don't know if she also got an associate degree, but having that option to work has been good for them, too..

I think Abbie currently works. She might be the only Duggar woman to hold a 9-5 job.

Medic corp is getting attention from the relief efforts from Helene.  Musk, Ivanka, and now Dr. Phil  interviewing JD.🙄  Though this time it appears they may actually be helping some and working with Samaritans Purse (the Graham charity) .  They were helping get starlink access for communications and taking generators in to isolated areas that have no power.  They are doing a lot with helicopters, did they get more or do they belong to someone else.  Anyhow  they are taking in supplies to places that are no longer accessible by road.  I hope they are actually helping.  When did Musk become a humanitarian?  Now he and Ivanka are pretending to care. JD was the only Duggar I saw (I didn't look at all their posts about the effort so maybe there are other Dugs).  I don't know much about the Bates but saw a couple of them.

I am glad resources but the whole Ivanka and Musk thing makes my eyes roll.  As I don't recall them ever showing up to help at other disasters.   Hey at least people are being helped so the motivation doesn't matter.

They do seek out attention for there efforts and to get interviews. "Do your good works in private" is lost on them.

Lawson has made what is basically a commercial and says their specialty is evacuation, "we are running about 10 helicopters today". Video shown - military helicopter where lawson or some medic fool is inside for the ride filming the people being evacuated.

Generators shown being delivered also military copter.

They posted a local pastor came to pray for them and the trays of Starbucks and other food and drinks makes me so angry.

What would you consider to be acceptable nourishment for them? Hardtack and water? Or no food or drink at all?

Of course they need to eat, but there is a difference between eating for nourishment and stuffing your face on goodies. Simple sandwiches and cans of pop are fine. Remember when they got chick fil a flown in?

If they were eating that the comments would be that they are eating junk and couldn't possibly be getting enough energy to work from sugary drinks and processed meats.

I wouldn't say that. I would say they are there to help out. I had a friend, a doctor, go to Haiti after that last earthquake to help. You know what he ate? Whatever was there. He didn't fly stuff in for him and his buddies.

Simple food, water (doesn't have to be pop)..... they are not there to be entertained.

I'm sure their food is being locally sourced, so, no worries!

to state your own question how would you know?

My point was more along the lines of the medic corps usually showing they are at whatever site, where they have access to solid shelter, electricity, internet to post, able to score an interview or be pictured with a big name,  and have lots of food, maybe or maybe not available to regular volunteers. While claiming "we are doing this or that"and showing another entity entirely doing this or that, while lawson, with his perfect hair, takes video showing people who are devastated.

I don’t believe much of this

What are other volunteers not being interviewed by dr phil or in pics with Ivanka or elon musk connection eating today?

Because those doing the real work are too busy to beg for attention.

This is a strawman argument . It’s not fair to try and put words into others’ mouths, imho.

My experience is that most of the volunteers are too busy doing the work to stop to pose for photo ops with famous people or to give interviews to the various television shows.  For example, Greg Biffle was flying his personal helicopter for days before he was briefly interviewed, then he went right back to work.  He talked about a guy who signaled him with a mirror, but he didn't stick a camera in his face and exploit him.

As for food, I don't care what anyone there eats as long as they get something.  Usually organizations like the Red Cross set up kitchens to feed the volunteers as well as people stuck in the disaster zone.  Maybe places like Chic Fil A and Sbux donate stuff, but most people eat whatever is there, they don't get stuff brought in especially for them.

At least with this being in the US, JD and crew can't show up with fake law enforcement badges and bully other aid workers like they did in the Bahamas.  While they are still doing the usual posing, I think they have had to actually do some work as well.  The situation in NC and Tennessee is desperate and I am sure even a poser like Lawson Bates can be of some use.

This is the one time I actually don’t have anything to criticize. I saw the video of oh so vain Lawson carrying that old woman to the helicopter. She seemed happy, her family was relieved. I don’t have a problem

I guess talking to Dr. Phil was a way that John David thought he could get attention out there. And that’s actually not a bad idea. I do think they are really helping. I don’t care what food they get. Has Jose Andres shown up yet? His World central kitchen is very very important. They are on any disaster area within days if not hours. It’s very important to donate to them, I do it all the time.

If this is in reference to Starlink, my understanding is people are just being set up with the standard free 30 days before they have to start paying and the equipment is also still not free. So, these people getting Starlink are still paying out of pocket for the equipment and will have to pay for the regular subscription after a month. That's not an option for a lot of people.

For that reason, I'm not really sure I'd call him a humanitarian, especially seeing a lot of these infrastructure issues are likely to last for far longer. I think he smelled a business opportunity and figured the PR would not delve to deeply into the details.

Yeah, I was not being sincere using that term.  I figured there had to be something in it for him, though I was just thinking it was the positive attention.  I didn't know that he would be benefiting from it so soon. But of course he is.

Yeah and maybe they'll end up extending the amount of time it is free, which would be nice, but they're still getting over $300 for the equipment for each unit they sell.
