@Arwen Evenstar that was a beautiful post. I’m sorry if my post came across as implying chemo can make you crazy. I stated I know it messes with your system, but it does not completely deplete common sense. It is something I sadly know from experience. Name a cancer and someone on either side of my family has succumbed to that SOB. I also understand relying on faith at difficult times. When our son had what should have been a fatal pulmonary embolism barely out of his teens, we prayed like never before.

Cathy is rather disingenuous posting what @Sew Sumi aptly described as passive aggressive.  Her son refuses to work and support his family. He then bullies a teen girl Online. He ran his mouth per his constitutional right. TLC exercised their contractual right to continue without his hateful rants. The public have exercised their constitutional right to voice their disapproval of his behavior. It has nothing to do with Christian persecution and everything to do with being an asshole.

BTW, what happened to @maraleia?

I didn’t take that way at all.  Chemo can cause nerve damage, memory loss, etc.  Not sure what it does to dementia patients. I don’t think it depletes common sense completely, however some of the pain management drugs can possibly result in some loss of judgment.  It seemed Miss Cathy was likely off all her chemo drugs and other meds.

Glad your son is OK now.  That must have been a horrible thing for a parent to bear.

My guess is Jill is proud. Other than the gay guy her parents had dismissed from the filming; she probably hasn't known members of LGBTQ community.  I realize that she is a product of how she is raised and that she has never had a chance to see the outside world for herself.  Jill is usually the most devout of the Duggars, so my guess is she blames TLC and the world not her husband.

I'm thinking both proud and sad.

Proud because Derick is a Twitter Warrior for Jesus.

Sad because the Twitter Warrior for Jesus just ended something that she was part of for almost a decade.  Jill might not be able to acknowledge that she feels sad for herself so she reverts back to being proud of Derick.  After all, it's all about Derick. Repress, repress!

Perhaps these 'friends' that Cathy has are due to having to have a professional relationship with them through work; they are either co-workers of clients of hers and she's FORCED to converse with them about business. I highly doubt she chooses to socialize with them or has any of them over to dinner.

I don't believe that Cathy has LGBT friends. If anything, she knows some LGBT people she's cordial with and she calls them friends so she could use them when called out on her shit. LIke when someone claims having black friends after saying something racist.

I can agree with both these points. We don’t know what’s truly in her heart. But even if she knew them professionally, it had to have opened her heart and mind a teeny bit. Jesus was criticized by the Pharisees for a good many things, one of them dining with what they thought were the wrong sort of people.  I’d like to think today that drag queens and other LGBT people, people with green hair and tattoos, bikers, etc would have all been welcome to sit with Him.

It's a positive sign that Cathy (possibly) has friends from outside of her religious circle.

I'm a big believer that progress/acceptance/love is made friend by friend, person by person.

It's easy for Derick (or anyone) to be a Twitter Bully.  But I suspect if Derick actually sat with people and truly listened to their hearts, he might soften his views and eventually come to love people as God loves them.

Sorry to say, I think Jill is just dumb. She may be upset that Derick lost the TLC job, and that people are  attacking him on twitter, but she is a blind follower, She may be confused by all the negative publicity, but she will stick with supporting her headship because that's how she was raised. Whatever Derick  wants to do, she will follow. She will never be an independent woman and I don't know if she has the common sense to realize if she's happy or not.

I wish I could like this a million times!!!

That is my theory as to why there is so much LGBT acceptance these days:  Now almost everyone knows and likes or is related to someone who is LGBT  My best friend and I are in our early 50s, and her bio niece is gender fluid and identifies presently as him/them. He even took a male moniker, which we use when talking about him. Even when he’s in makeup and a dress and heels looking all girly, we still respectfully refer to him as him.  The sister of my BIL is openly gay and well as the son of my BIL)s stepfather. They are East Texas evangelicals thru and thru, and have not forsaken them nor cast them out.

People my age grew up when being LGBT was so hush, hush.  I told her, “Now, we’re who teens call “square”. In fact, I was exposed to religious teachings (as most of us were) that it was a very bad thing to be gay.  Once I began to meet more people who were LGBT, my heart began to question how anyone could believe they were evil, because they were always among the kindest, most compassionate and generous people I knew. Over the years, I evolved into a proud LGBTQ rights activist.  We don’t have equality in America until everyone enjoys the same rights.

Loving kindness towards and acceptance of people for who they are, regardless of how they identify and who they love is what Jesus would expect from Christians, and basically what any decent human being should do regardless of belief.

Thanks for the reminder!  I donate to PP in the VP's name, but I will add D-wreck to my list of my honorary donations as well!

Unfortunately posting negative comments on his social media only reinforces his martyrdom.

The more he is “persecuted”, the more righteous he becomes. People with this type of mind set will never have self awareness. In their minds, any type of criticism just further proves how much suffering he is enduring which then makes him “stronger” and therefore a better Christian. Being fired from TLC just proves how Christian he is. It can’t possibly be because he’s a dick.

This isn’t just seen in religion, but in many people with personality disorders. You probably work with some, I know I do:

The girl who says she can’t be friends with other women because they are all so jealous of her. No, you can’t be friends with other women because you are lazy, petty and bitchy

or the man who says everyone is always “out to get him”  He never gets the promotion or raise or award because those in power resent him because he is really smarter than everyone else. No, dude your career is going nowhere because you are lazy, petty and bitchy.

but I digress... yeah I kinda had a bad day at work  haha

Arwen, don't apologise. Cathy just took her faith to the nth degree. And she's just fortunate that there were treatments available that weren't when my dad succumbed to the same cancer 10 years ago. He lived Jesus as well, but He didn't save this devout man.

God didn't save Cathy. Modern medicine did. Fuck you, Cathy.

Sew, I  still remember how upset you were when Cathy originally posted.  I lost my dear father to gastric cancer 3 years ago on the 19th of this month. My dad loved Jesus, too, and despite our prayers asking to pull our dad through complications from the cancer, it was not to be. We figured it was his time to go.

Not sure why Miss Cathy gives no credit to modern medicine.  Many Fundies I knew prayed for the skills of the doctor to bring about healing and that God would watch over their loved ones.  Fundies rely on doctors, too.  Josie couldn’t have survived without medical intervention.

  • Love 10

Sew, I understand.  I told my oncologist what they were giving my dad, and he said things have changed already for what they are doing for gastric cancer.

They are doing things way differently for ovarian cancer than the way they used to approach it and new drugs that weren’t available 10 years ago.

My former line supervisor had Stage 3 NHL and is now in remission.  He’s one of the kindest, most godly people I know and that didn’t keep him from getting sick, either.

They found a cyst near my left ovary when I was being tested to be a possible kidney donor for my husband when a tech was doing a kidney ultrasound. I was sent to a OB/GYN who did a lovely ultrasound and said I needed an operation. The operation showed I had endometriosis and my left ovary and cyst was taken out with no signs of cancer. Six months after the operation is when I found out I had Graves Disease. It took my husband's illness, and me to be brave enough to be a possible donor to find out I had two medical conditions I did not know I had. I always give credit to my husband's wonderful kidney specialist and the OB/GYN for going the extra mile when other doctors did not. The other ironic reasoning behind the kidney ultrasound was my left kidney injury, and the kidney specialist wanted to take a look at the kidney to make sure it was healthy enough for me to live with in case I was able to donate. Weird how an old injury helped me years later. Yes, I give God and my guardian angels credit, but I also give credit to the medical team for going beyond the call of duty when it came to the testing me to be a donor. I also credit the hospital team who saved my life after I was hit by a car and the emergency personnel who arrived on the scene and help get me to the hospital because I probably would not be sitting here today without them.

I have a cousin who always say pray, pray, pray and did I say pray. Her husband along with her have been dealing with health issues, but she does give credit to the medical team and gives them thank for their medical care. The thing that gets me is Cathy and her the devil and evilness has taken over her body because she was not Godly enough was caused her cancer in the first place. Seriously!!! Everything bad is caused by the devil taken over. Can they not have a single thought not related to the bible or God. Of course, Derick only uses God and the bible when it is convenient for them in order to spread their hate and to save evil heathens. I wonder how Derick would feel if his mom was being treated by a lesbian or gay doctor or nurse. Would he ask for another doctor or nurse or try to save their heathen souls.

Cathy very well may have been treated by a gay doctor/nurse in the course of her treatments.  She just didn't know it.

I agree getting exposed to, or knowing someone, different than oneself will ease fears and concerns one might have, however it still isn't an excuse for bullying others or interfering with their rights. I'm not saying its wrong to be uncomfortable around a difference one has never been exposed to, but how one reacts to their own discomfort can be terribly wrong in some cases.

I'm sure Derick, Ben and Jeremy have known plenty of Catholics, yet they still post disparaging remarks about them.

This is what I believe, too, and I think Cathy probably has some sort of a friendship with LGBTQ people, even if it is just a work friendship. It's so easy for Derrick, who is not part of the real world, to see them as he enemy, and Jill has never even been exposed to any of them! I bet if Derrick had to work in the corporate world for 30+ years and didn't have a brand based on LGBTQ hate to uphold, he may begin to see them as people too. I bet Cathy feels affection towards them on some level, but they probably aren't her bff's, in all fairness.

Why yes, I believe Jeremy does have Catholic relatives. His mother grew up Catholic and went to Catholic school. I don't know when his father converted. Perhaps a Catholic PRIEST married them. Do they believe their marriage is valid...being performed by a 'non christian' Catholic priest, whose ordination they don't respect?

I'd like to know the facts about that. If Jeremy and Jinger were invited to one of his Catholic NE Italian cousins' wedding, would they go and respect THEIR tradition? Or would they shun it because of their beliefs in NO food at a reception, no dancing, no real joy...etc.?  How would Jinger and Jeremy behave in a Catholic church especially if the marriage was performed during a Catholic Mass service? These are some good questions they should be asked.

Sorry, this is Jill and Derick's thread. I didn't notice.

Hmmm... I do not blame Derick's orthodontist for the way his teeth and jaw looks. I bet dollars to donuts he is not taking care of his braces and following the orthodontist advice when it comes the care, cleaning and visits especially after seeing pictures of what he eats and his lack of personal hygiene habits. I was diagnosed with periodontal disease in August and was told how to do the home care in order to keep it under control. In otherwords, I have to do my part and the dental hygienist have to do her part. If Derick spent the time he uses to shove his bigot, hypocritical, religious rants on Twitter and other social media pages on his personal dental care and hygiene habits, he would not be facing the dental problems he has now.

This isn't a hygiene issue or a diet issue.  Derick's jaw reconstruction was obviously a disaster.  I've worked with a woman who had this procedure, and although the surgery wasn't for aesthetics, she looked much improved when it was over.  The same can be said for Bristol Palin.  I've also cared for people who've had this surgery.  I think these post-op issues have caused his problem maintaining weight and his mental issues.  I wouldn't be surprised if he had significant TMJ, and possibly has been taking opioids long term, which would contribute to his health issues.

Maybe they needed gloves because it was cold, or just part of the uniform. I really hope Derelict had the oral surgery for medical, not aesthetic reasons. Because if it was the latter, to be TV ready, it seriously backfired. At least they look like they bathed for the pictures. Why do they always look in need of a proper scrubbing?

It's a rough surgery, and I can't see anyone signing up just to look prettier.  Plus, insurance wouldn't pay, and it would be difficult to find a maxillofacial surgeon to perform an unnecessary reconstruction.

  • Love 3

I didn't see where Derick needed that surgery. He was a cute looking young guy, IMO. He also didn't seem to have any chewing issues or chronic jaw pain that showed. He never came out and actually said WHY he had this surgery performed. He could have given some information. People out here in the real world, did care about him back then and some still do, I'm sure.

I would like to know why he's still in braces? His teeth seem to be shifting all over the place and back again....Isn't it retainer time?

Jill gets way less static than Derick...she did get snark for handing out baskets for Thanksgiving .  Normally, this would be an innocuous post, but people haven’t forgotten the Duggar donations for show and take them back, camping out for free donuts and taking theim back from someone they donated to.

I think they have done so much for show that their sincerity is doubted now. It’s your karma, Duggars, and karma is “a freak bitch, baby”. (Yes, we love the Gaga).

I for one think Derrick wanted to be off the show, and likely never wanted to be on it beyond the wedding. I think it was part of the fleeing to CA, but that didn't work, and then he thought when the Josh scandal boke, that would be the end of it, but like the mob... everytime he tried to get out, they kept dragging him back in.  I think he figured he would burn his bridges with TLC and that way if Jim Boob tried to pressure him onto it, it's no longer on the table.

I wonder if DD really buys the whole Umbrella thing and if it's chafing him that JB still has a hold on JIlly muffin. Hence the moving out of the house, going to Bible school and grifting more money so that he can call the shots himself. Just a theory.

He probably was not following the instructions he was given for after care if he had surgery or any other form of dental work. A patient cannot expect the medical or dental team to do it all after the procedure is done. The Duggars are famous for not following medical advice in any way shape or form. Derick needs to follow up if he is having post-op issues. Praying, reading the bible and saying the devil has taken over body and soul will not heal your medical issues or post-op issues before or after any type of medical procedure. In otherwords, in my opinion, Derick has done the damage to himself and the dentists/orthodontist/surgeon should not be blame for the way his jaw turned out.

I can't help thinking people are giving Derick WAY too much credit for engineering the situation for his "benefit".

I really don't think he's that bright.  And all of the machinations, moves and counter-moves he's supposedly undertaken recently just don't mesh with the dull, simple and gawky loner that hooked his future to his perfectly matching Jilly muffin.

I think he's just lost touch with reality and has turned into a flaming asshole with a Twitter account and no common sense.

I agree with both of these positions.

I don't think Derick wanted, or expected, any of this. It wouldn't surprise me if Jilly-Muffin hadn't explicitly told him that she didn't care about the show and wanted to be a missionary. There is no way of knowing what kinds of conversations were had before the wedding about his future participation in the show, but I don't think he ever planned on anything more that an occasional "hi from the missionaries in [Distant Country]." Unlike Ben, I don't think that Derick is happy to submit to JB's "umbrella of authority," and unlike Jeremy, he doesn't seem to have the balls to do anything about it.

That having been said, though, I agree with Leighdear, that he's no Machiavellian strategist. I think he's unhappy and simply lashing out and whatever crosses his path -- and Jazz Jennings just happened to appear in the periphery of his universe. Despite having a relatively normal education and a university degree, this guy was pantsed by Jill Duggar, not exactly an intellectual heavyweight. Someone in that family has given up everything that he hoped to achieve, and someone else has everything that she wants in a world where men have total control. Maybe he's dumb, or weak, or unlucky, or some combination of the three, but he's certainly not smart.

These are huge assumptions.  I am simply saying, as a medical professional who has cared for these patients and worked with one, that what you're saying is unlikely.  But let's agree to disagree.

The procedure is not done to make you more attractive.  The surgery is to ward off future issues from significant jaw misalignment.  It is not uncommon to perform this surgery around Derick's age.

  • Love 11

No offense, but I am sure there are doctors out there that would tell his or her patient to get follow up care and to follow their post op instructions to the letter. Derick may have had bad surgery, but he needs to man up and follow any instructions he got after surgery. It does not look to me he follow the advice about the braces after seeing what he has been eating in the pictures he likes to post on social media. I came close to needing jaw surgery because of a bad overbite/crossbite and my upper jaw was not wide enough  because my dad refused to pay for my braces until after I graduated from high school. When I finally got my braces and to have a weird type appliance on my upper teeth to expand the upper jaw for a few months, I followed my orthodontist instructions to the letter because I did not want to end up with having my jaw broken, reset, and having braces before and after. I was lucky because my jaw did better than the orthodontist thought (had my braces taken off at 16 months instead of 24 months.) If a patient refuses to follow his surgeon's instructions, has poor dental hygiene habits, does not follow post op instructions, and does not go in when issues come up, he or she is at fault and not the dentist, surgeon or orthodontist should not be taking the blame because the patient does not want to work with them to improve his or her teeth, gum and jaw health.
