Jill "open-minded?" Excuse me while I go laugh until I puke.

She also opened with a bible quote, so she got hers in as well. Also, she has the handwriting of a 10 year old.

"Your wifey for lifey?" You've got to be kidding me. If I ever said that to my husband, he'd take me to the ER to have my head examined.

"...Wifey 4 lifey", no less...

I will give her that she seems to love him for HIM, and the letter is not covered in Godly this, Heart for the Lord that, and  Power of Jesus the other. Heck, even her single Bible quote is from the Song of Solomon :)

Yes, that is what I was thinking.  She is such a good wifey to her hubby.  heh

Freudian slips? Or maybe I'm reading too much. But why cross out serve and His when that's what they are all about, serving others and His graciousness, His saving power. Sorry just odd to me.

I think Cathy has been given too much leniency in the snark department because she: went to college, had a real job, only had 2 kids, survived losing her husband and cancer. It turns out Derricks accounting degree can be summed up :  Derelict + Duggar = tax free, fame, lording superiority over others part time, triple dipping from website, SOS and TLC. Cathy is  a kook as well and seems more and more like anyone else who joins The Duggar fame train.

Jill is an embarrassment. Like, totally grow the fuck up.

Why do they have to put everything out there?  Couldn't those letters be just between the two of them?  Are they trying to convince US that they are so much in love?  Mr. lookeyloo has written me some sweet things over the years.  Somehow I don't feel the need to share them in a public forum.

Yes. And also that they are "interesting" enough for a TV show.

This was very telling to me as well! Talk about giving away his true motives.

Yes, why does the public need to see their private anniversary letters to one another???

They have to show the rest of us how it's done, of course! And/or they are bragging. Actually, maybe they are just so happy that they want to share it with the world. But it comes across to me as smug. And yes, some things should be private. Keeps it neat and special!

She is 13.

There's nothing that shows off taste and maturity quite like a scrawled note full of text-speak on a piece of notebook paper. Maybe he'll ask her if he can carry her books after Study Hall.

Is anything private to this couple? (Well, besides the fact they will never admit how their first year of marriage really went.) If they think they're offering an example to live by, they're nuts. There are things in marriage that are NOBODY'S BUSINESS but one's spouse's and a big one is love letters/written communication between each other. It's not for other people to read.

They think they're showing their million Instagram followers what love really is? These two immature, emotionally stunted children have no idea.

Well, one of them does come from a father who thinks that dry humping on a minigolf course should be shared with the world and a mother who thinks that her monthly-cycle calendar should be hung on the fridge to be regularly perused by her minor children and shown on tv. So.............Duggarworld appears to have slightly different views from most of us about what's private and what's not.

From Jilly's letter:

"...I just didn't know just HOW amazing you actually were until we actually got to know one another and FINALLY got married!"

Wow, good thing he's totally amazing, since if he wasn't she'd only be realizing it now. Apparently.

I can't believe they didn't fit a commercial in there, then recap the recap. It's the Duggar way.

Oopsy, might have started something. Next we'll see. I just fell in love with that girl/woman with the Starbucks wearing a shirt from Walmart.

Yeah, I'm surprised that SoS isn't blacked out in their KJV bibles. :D

Only the KJV version of SoS would have been acceptable.

I'm with Sew, I think if I told my hubs I was his "wifey for lifey" he'd think I'd lost my shit. Jill's level of immaturity is beyond laughable; it's tragic.

Even teenaged Ben managed to write Jessa's "majestic pearls" letter on real stationery. I'm sure they have paper other than spiral notebooks at the local Wally World. I mean, this was obviously planned for public consumption, so why not try to actually respect the occasion, and their public, a little?

Good grief, now Jill has published her Ode to JBoob on the Dillards website - another looong list of wonderful memories. It now comes across almost like a competition between Jessa, MEchelle and Jill. Are we to believe they each coincidentally had the same idea this year to write these long-ass odes? Are the other 18 kids each going to do one too?

JimBoob = King Lear, and the competition is between the daughters/wife for who can express love the most effusively and thus get the biggest inheritance?

Just pick any Shakespearean tragedy... As far as comedy goes, The Taming of the Shrew wouldn't be Gothardly.

And the fact that Jill felt the need to explain with timelines why people thought they moved to fast, as if he wasn't there experiencing it with her. I can't imagine writing my husband "remember how people thought we were taking too long to get married (5 years dating, a year and a half engagement)?"

Yeah exactly.  Reminding him (us) that they talked for 3 months + courted for 4 + engaged for 3.  "some people said we moved too fast."  Point being, "And look how well it all turned out for us!  We proved 'em all wrong!"

Absolutely.  This is all to show the rest of us how well courtship works and how much in love they are (after "all this time"!), so we may follow in their footsteps.  It is one of the tenets of their faith to live as an example, that others are attracted to.  Unfortunately they don't realize how un-attractive, childlike, and holier-than-thou they appear.

You skipped right over the fact that your wife has a trauma history, a huge secret conspiracy she will defend to her dying breath, has virtually no education, no understanding of how to hold down a job or survive in the real world, won't let you work a real job, won't leave you alone (EVER!), has the emotional maturity of a stunted 14 year old, hung out with your wife's molester, you had some facial/medical issues, a horrible illness in our family, adjustment back to America, basically own no property or land that's truly yours, never had a private conversation with your wife/lover, never were allowed to have even minor disagreement, moved to a foreign culture to undermine it, oh and whored it all out for a paycheck. But yeah, you didn't move to fast. Enjoy being Duggilards forever.

14 is generous. I was far more mature at 14 than Muffy is at 25.

Middle school at best. Mentally, I'd put her around 6th grade, and despite his college and Nepal experiences, Derick isn't much better, maybe 10th grade. Whoever said they were passing notes in 3rd period nailed it!

and as we have all said before, it's obvious now why Derick was attracted to Jill. He is just an immature as she is.

At first, we couldn't quite figure it out. Now? two 8th graders in love! With a fan licking baby in Danger America!  How sweet!

I said the poster used the semi-colon properly! It was to contrast against Derick's poorly-written meanderings.

I am an English teacher. Derick's writing is not what I expect of someone with a college degree; that led to what kind of writing requirements his school required of him to graduate. I think those are valid questions when we consider this guy has declared himself a preacher, and preachers must write sermons as part of their job, unless they can speak extemporaneously like a handful of incredible public speakers who can pull a speech out of nowhere, anytime, anyplace. Derick isn't that guy.

For his sermons, he only posts outlines.  So Derick does speak extemporaneously.  Oh, the humanity!  I can imagine the rambling mess he spews out in Spanglish.  The denizens of Danger America can learn so much from him.

I agree that he doesn't have the thought processes to make a good preacher. .... But it's also true that his university wasn't educating him to be a preacher, as far as they knew, so I don't think we can necessarily blame them. They were educating him to be an accountant, mostly.

I have to say that I'm still not sure he's a whole lot worse than the average, even among preachers, though. I just heard a sermon a couple of Sundays ago -- first one I've heard in a while. And it was from the head pastor at a large and very popular church, too, recently actively recruited from several states away, a guy in his 40s, with significant experience. But it seemed to me every bit as rambly and pointless as Derick's creations. This one rambled around, covered the same ground over and over, was -- or at least seemed -- quite long, and yet never made more than one point that I could discern. Worse, it never actually explained that point or made it at all clear to me. When the guy was done, I had absolutely no idea what it would actually mean to do what he was exhorting us to do and I didn't even know how he got that particular exhortation out of the text he was supposedly preaching on. There was no reasoning in the sermon that I could discern and absolutely nothing concrete. The guy did get all fired up a few times, though, so I expect that in that, at least, he would come out ahead of Derick as a speaker. Since I didn't know what he was driving at, though, I wasn't too moved by his being fired up.

Luckily for everybody, though, I doubt that Derick's going to get his preacher dream. And hopefully even his preaching as a "missionary" won't persist for too long. ... Or he'll get better, maybe? Unlikely, I suppose.

It sounds odd but... I swear this is the case... there has been an argument made, that not all preachers have to be gifted at sermons.  (??)  Maybe this is some sign of the dumbing down of America, but I've seen contentions made that there's being good at giving sage advice in one on one spiritual counseling; there's being good at connecting with teens/children; there's being good at writing stuff that gets published in religious venues and magazines, etc.  I find it odd that people would stay in a church that didn't have messages which spoke to them and which they understood; but then again, that's just me and the fact that frankly, it's very difficult for me, of above average intelligence and having once read the Bible cover-to-cover, to find a sermon that will teach me anything new or make me reflect with new wonder upon things I once knew like the back of my hand.  At minimum though, I feel like most people keep touch-stoning various Scripture quotes at signposts within their sermons with some regularity, so that they have a place to keep doubling back towards and a structure.  I also have an unofficial feeling that the ideal sermon outline would be constructed like an essay.

For what it's worth, there's actually a trend now in some churches to hire specific pastors for those specific roles. You have a preaching/lead pastor, and under him a youth pastor, a counseling pastor, etc. I'm not sure that it's an indication of dumbing down or more a recognition of the fact that one person may not be gifted in all those areas and it can spread someone pretty thin trying to do them all justice.

I kind of feel like the bare minimum for a minister should be to have the gift of eloquence and otherwise they've really got no business being one with all the public speaking such a role would seem to require, but maybe I'm a minority in this expectation.

I've also heard of a trend where ministerial staff won't provide counseling at all, and have referred folks to outside "Christian counselors".  I was curious about this similarly, and wondered if this meant churches were afraid of being sued if the minister's advice led to bad outcomes or having affairs with the counsel-ees.

I'm assuming it would have to be a pretty big church to pay for all those associate pastors. I know there are several IFB mega-churches in the country, but isn't the typical Baptist church rather small?

I go to a very small non denominational Christian church (probably fewer than 75 members, usually less than 50 on an average Sunday) and we just hired a youth minister.  Of course I think (this has never been told to me) part of it is because my preacher (his word) is fighting cancer. I think they hired the youth minister to step in as the full time minister when our current minister can no longer work.

Much is being made in the online rags about Jill being all jealous and mad at Jinger's courtship announcement overshadowing the Jillardversary. Personally, she's had her wedding and her giant baby, so no doubt, she's happy for her sister. Joshgate came out right before her first anniversary. Really call bullshit on those tabloid headlines stirring up stuff when there likely isn't anything of the sort.

Just like there were 20 different versions of the yogurt shop story already. Move along, tabloids, nothing to see here..
