Lemur, I guess that's what happens when you "Buy used and save the difference"..used stuff usually comes without instructions...

No excuse. Someone here asked what the chair was so I went to Amazon and put "baby chair" into the search and the Bumbo was on the first page of suggestions. I clicked on it and the cautions were clearly stated in BOLD in the description. In less then a minute I went from knowing nothing to knowing more than Jillie Muffin does who incorrectly uses one she owns. In all honesty I'd probably be a causal mom with regard to stuff like that because I was raised in the 50s where plastic dry cleaner bags were used as capes but now I'd be aware of what to post on line. If you want your life to be an example of Christian living than don't post stupid shit to distract the conversation from what your mission is about.

These days there is no excuse for not reading instructions...however since their internet usage has always been controlled...I'm wondering if they realize what's available out there.   Since they are obsessed with babies, Muffy should have gotten this one right?

Muffy probably got her Bumbo at Goodwill or that Once Upon a Child store they always frequent, so no instructions.

Cross-posting from the Boob thread, it looks like the parents and James are currently headed to Danger America for Muffy's birthday tomorrow. Jana's buying plants, now this. Wanna bet TLC is filming?

Will Jessa cook couscous?

Not to repeat everything I posted over on the Boob topic , but I wonder if JB and MEchelle are going to stage an intervention on Jilly and Derick. Because that Mother's Day video showed the Dullards looking way too crunchy-granola-hippy looking for fundie evangelicals on a mission to save souls in Danger America. I call BS on the idea that Boob/MEchelle would pay for three plane tickets just on account of a kid's birthday. These are the "pick out your present at the thrift store" parents.

I have to agree with the analysis that they're either going down to Danger America on TLC's dime (which would be depressing as hell, considering that means they've crawled back to Ma and Pa Duggar for content) or they're heading down there for an intervention/exorcism.  Perhaps they think Satan has built a THC fortress in their hearts,  made entirely out of pot browns.

Wtf?! The Duggars go to Danger America the way regular people do weekend trips a few hours away.

I agree 100% that the trip was either paid for by TLC or the Dullards are straying too far from the party line. That has to be around five grand in plane tickets for Boob, Michelle and James. No way would Boob blow that kind of money for a birthday visit.

Okay, according to our timeline JB and Michelle were just in Danger America a few weeks ago, on the TLC "surprise" trip.  So does anyone recall when that trip really happened?  Maybe they are really concerned about their Muffin and her loneliness without the fam.

I'm going with "we don't like the photos we've seen over the past month". Considering the fact they probably can't keep their kids' birthdays straight to begin with, this is not a social visit.

I agree. It's too close on the heels of their last trip. Something's going on. As much as the Duggars try to act oblivious, they read every forum, message board and article written about them online. They know people have taken notice of Derick's appearance, along with the fact that Jill's house is disgusting and the couple isn't faking the missionary gig well enough to keep the cash rolling in. Boob and Michelle flew down there to tell the Dullness to get their shit together.

I think you all are right. Boob is coming to whip that pair of stoners back in line...too many spaced out looks, Derick dressing like a Rastafarian wannabe, they already knew about Dirty Baby since Michelle was in that photo...

Something is up...I smell a chastening Duggar style!

I agree. Last year before they left for Danger America, Derick said that they wouldn't be back for "at least eight months" -- if I recall correctly. We're coming up on the eight month mark, and they had the family bringing more stuff to them, not taking stuff back. Izzy is a year old, and Jill isn't pregnant yet (I personally, don't think that they would wait one second to announce a pregnancy. At the very least, they would be dropping a LOT of "hints"). And, of course, there are the photos . . .

ETA: I alamost forgot, but there was also the statement that Derick made about Izzy "going to school" and "making friends." I didn't think much about it at the time -- it seemed like an innocent statement made by someone who had lived a fairly normal life. Derick has been around the Duggars long enough at this point, though, to know their feelings on "school" and "friends." Even one child going to school, or cub scouts, or soccer practice could bring "ideas" into the TTH and poison the whole pot.

I also think it's possible -- but less likely -- that TLC paid for the trip to get them out of the house. If they want to film at the TTH and make sure that JB and J'chelle don't show up in the background, it's probably easier, and cheaper, to put them on a plane.

In real time, I think Boob and Mechelle were last down there about two months ago, and that's when the Bumbo pic was taken (then saved to post for Mother's Day). Boob also went down on the annual December missioncation, but think Mechelle stayed home that time.

But I agree, another trip so soon? TLC must be filming; Boob is too cheap to pay for plane tickets, even for an "intervention." Jana buying all those plants so late in the season is another clue that TLC is still hanging around.

As for Jessa and the couscous, at least she had the box to spell it correctly. I would love to hear what she actually calls it, since it's pretty likely her first time using it.

I forgot about Derick's offhand "when he starts school" comment. There's no way in hell Izzy can return to Arkansas bi-lingual, open-minded and well versed on the social problems plaguing Third World countries. Boob must always be the smartest guy in the room. He won't allow himself to be upstaged by a first grader.

I'm sure this smacks of intervention:

  • no pregnancy (even though it's foolish in Zika land to do so)
  • stoner looks
  • Derick's Rastafarian look
  • grubby baby
  • Izzy having an attitude and won't pick up his toys
  • Dirty feet
  • Slovenly housekeeping

Time to give a refresher on blanket training, housekeeping, and a new hair helmet and shave for Derick, as well as a stern talking to.  If Jerick aren't already quaking in their sandals, they probably should be...

Just find it so disturbing that two adults in their mid 20's with a child of their own are being pushed around by Boob. Maybe SOS ratted them out to Boob or too many critical posts about Jerick made Boob wonder if there was some truth to them being stoners or abusing pharma. It won't be pretty, that's for sure.

Agree 1000%.

They were just there. I think the Dirtbag Druggout Derick has pissed Jim Bob off. Those two are also heading down there alone...they rarely travel without the entourage (did you know that had 19 kids???). They actually don't want the kidults there to see Derick all fucked up like that...

I posted this before, I was raised Fund (lite) and Derick's appearance is beyond shocking to that group. Jim Bob is probably fuming and worried. The Duggar brand hit the toilet. One perv child molester and now one drugged out son in law. Looking good, Jim Bob!

If I was married to Jill Giggle Box, and the Duggars were my in-laws, I would be asking the dentist or doctor for a strong pain med to tune Jill and the rest of the Duggars out. I remember reading somewhere about Jill wanting to talk with Derick at the end of the day while they were in bed. I would rather be kidnap by the bad guys in the area instead of having a long, dragged out, painful conversation with Jill. You can only talk about Izzy, how hard it is to take care of Izzy without her sisters there to help, scary spiders in the house, and how special, wonderful, and blissful having Jesus being part of their lives for so long before it becomes a repetitive, eye rolling, why me God moment.

Marigold, yup, my tenure at Fundy school taught me that just the sight of Derick's unkempt appearance would have had all the Fundys clutching their pearls and slamming their Bibles on the pulpit making the babies cry and terrifying the small children. His look is about as Fundy approved, even among modern day Fundies, as the look of a biker, punk rocker, or hippie.

Jill has seemed, as many of us noted, preoccupied, or down... or something.

Last night I came across an article about Zika. It mentioned most folks don't even know they have, or have had it. It mentioned one noticeable symptom of Zika is pink eye. In some of the photos Jill posted of Izzy a while back, he definitely had something up with his eyes. I guess Zika is usually just a quick flu like thing, but there can be long term effects from having it.

Of course this is just speculation, and a little concern, but now with JB & M going to see Jill, I hope little, big Izzy is okay.

IF (and we have no evidence), JB and DQ are on their way to butt in, they could be making a huge mistake. Remember, the Dullards don't NEED JB. Not only have they separated themselves from the McMansion anchor, they are supporting themselves (grifting). If they lose the missionary position, Derrick still has his education to fall back on.

However, he doesn't seem inclined to use it, given how quickly he dropped it. That was in the works even before Joshgate I. Remember the season that never aired was going to address Missioncation I.

Wow, that's scary because I've also noticed Izzy's eyes look red and swollen in many of their pictures. I figured it was just allergies. Hopefully it's nothing more serious.

I wonder where Jill's mindset is in all of this. Does she want to go home and her headship is refusing? Is Boob and Michelle's visit the result of a late night phone call from Jill pleading for help? Or is she on board with their new dirty hippie persona? I can't get a good read on her.

She spent a lot of years tattle-taling on her siblings. One has to wonder if she thinks she's going to force Triple D to straighten up and fly right.

One also has to wonder if being tattled on by his own wife would be the last straw for Triple D. "Covenant marriage" or not, it's possible.

Derek may have decided that he wants to stay on in Danger America indefinitely (and who could blame him?) while Jill is saying "Eight months is up, time to go home!". If he's being stubborn, she may have called her parents in as backup and they're rushing down to straighten him out and drag him back to Arkansas.

I agree that this would be enough to send Jim Bob and Michelle right over the edge. It would be serious enough for Jim Bob to stick aa crowbar in his wallet and pay for a couple of airplane tickets.

Yep. You get it. It is SO BAD to a group like Fundamentalist Baptists, I can't even explain it.  No words.

Not sure how much street smarts Jim Bob has but he actually might suspect that in addition to looking really fucked up, Derick might actually BE fucked up.

For someone to be in a fundamentalist tight circle and then to look like a drugged dirty hippie in a matter of months...that is really strange. His appearance has drastically changed.  Strangers on the internet are concerned...

Interested to see how this Dirty Derick storyline plays out... I hope he is just dirty and not addicted to anything or having a breakdown/mental health issues.

Maybe SOS called Jim Bob down there?

The only thing that doesn't make sense is that they are posting public pictures of them flying down there. Calling attention to themselves.  However, this is the Duggars and Anna gave birth on a toilet on national TV so who the hell knows what these crackpots are thinking.

The reason for the visit could be many reasons:

  • Marital conflict
  • Izzy is sick
  • Jill or Derick has health problems
  • Boob smells sin in the camp
  • Derick has gone rogue and Jill wants Boob to sort him out
  • Jill is suffering from depression

Jill has always been the Miss Goody Two Flipflops taddle-tale of the family... I can't really imagine her smoking weed or popping pills or drinking...but after Joshley Madison's escapades...maybe the Good Daughter isn't as lily white as we thought she was...certainly it would surprise none of us if there are more secrets.

i hope that none of them are ill. Derick has looked very gaunt for a long time. He seems to have symptoms of Marfan Syndrome...long limbs, palate and bite issues, beanpole body type.  Marfans can carry with it deadly complications of aortal aneurysm and issues of the heart valves.  It should not be ignored for those reasons. I'm not the first poster to suggest this either.

Jill and Derick were very unprepared for missionary work, just like Muffy left Duggardom basically unprepared for any life situation when Boob married her off to an unsuspecting Derick. For someone purported to be very steeped in religion, I find her somewhat immature in her faith as it hasn't evolved much beyond quoting inane platitudes and a few standard Bible verses. I guess the Temple of Boob was not an ecumenical experience. She may have wanted to go out to the mission field, but that requires work and study.  Missionaries build schools, dig latrines, build water pumps, and help plant and raise crops, and help with medical and dental care, and distribute food, shoes, clothing and clean water to the needy. It's not about distributing sweets but making enough of a difference in the daily lives of others to make them curious about your message. At least that's how I understand it works.

i think it's all of the above. Except Izzy being sick.

I think there is some addiction in the camp and Jim Bob smells it. Derick has gone dirty and he needs to be "encouraged". Jill is depressed. Marriage is not so cute anymore. Derick looks sick to all of us.

If this is the case (and I would not wish it on anyone, even the odious Jim Boob) I hope Triple D's mom arrives with the quickness and tells that jackass Jim Boob and his less-than-intellectual wife that she will be making arrangements for help. They'd pack Triple D off to Jesus Jail as quickly as they could get him back into the US, and he would never have a chance to actually recover.

If this is garden-variety rebellion, I hope Triple D stands up on his hind legs and tells his in-laws to go home.

Do people truly think that Derick looks sick or like a drug addict? I thought people who were saying that were just using a turn of phrase!

I think Derick looks fine. I mean, the scruffy look is not my thing and the jaw surgery has changed his face dramatically and he is very slim but he always has been. It would be noteworthy if he suddenly gained a ton of weight. I think that D & J are basically going through a finding themselves phase. Yes, they are "finding themselves" by spending other peoples' money to convert Christians to Christianity and got married and had a baby in a shorter lifespan than a tube of mascara. But whether they realise it or not they are changing and recalibrating (and we snark on the stay at home kids who NEVER change). Anyway, I think that Derick is experimenting with the shaggy look and he lives somewhere that is farking hot so they're all a bit sweaty and dusty and dirty.

It just makes me uncomfortable to think that when someone here says he is taking drugs, that JB & M might be reading stuff like this and taking it seriously and flying to S America to potentially fuck up their lives some more.

I don't know that anyone has said Derick is on drugs (other than possibly painkillers?). People HAVE said that he LOOKS like a stoner with the shaggy hair, beard, and bandana look he was sporting until he trimmed the beard to something less than Grizzly Adams and lost the bandana in Jill's birthday video.

Yeah, I'm with Gweilo, I don't suspect drugs, just a guy trying on a new style. From what I've read here, it's a ballsy move, but really it's just a style and Jill fits well with the flip flops and long hair.

So stupid, Jill is right beside you, what idiots. JB stands there like it's take 4 and repeats some stupid lines. ugh.

I don't know, statements on this very page such as "I think there is some addiction in the camp" seem to be taking it a step further.  So I respectfully disagree with Marigold's point of view :)

Is the shaggy look popular among hipster Christians?  I don't know, I'm still trying to bring back 1920s-style dresses and cute cloche hats to Mass.  So far I'm the only person rocking the trend. FOR NOW.
