Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

OMG. That would definitely get them a 10 show order from TLC! As someone said in another thread, imagine the three-ring shitshow that would ensue. J-Chelle might snap and use the F word on camera!

Oh but hell to the yes! To see that robot drone automaton actually have a natural unscripted reaction not preapproved by her headship Boob and drop the F Bomb! That could well be the most liberating experience of her life!

I am waiting for one of Josh's flings to be pregnant with his child!  Then what Anna??

Bristol Palin is due soon. I hope her baby has a big Duggar head. Those two families deserve each other. *off to prayer closet*

Makes sense. I guess once you've said, "Sure, I'll be happy to marry this serial child molester," in hopes of moving up in the world, you've pretty much decided your own fate.

From the eyes of someone who was once an Anna... she didn't believe she was marrying a child molester.  She was brainwashed into thinking that Jesus changes people, because that's what the fictional stories like Fireproof and God is Dead would have you believe.  She knew he did it before, but she believed the bullcrap she's been fed all her life that saying a few words miraculously and permanently changes someone.  She believed him when he said "people change, I'm a CHRISTIAN now!"  And sadly, she's believing him again, because after all, he asked Jesus for forgiveness and he has CHANGED, right?   (no)

I'm brining this over from the "In the Media" topic.

I bet that if Josh can slip the leash and wander around Northwest Arkansas, he could manage to find some action. Amateur, not professional. But. Could he be sure he's not being set up by somebody who's looking for a nice paycheck from some tabloid for a "screw and tell" story? These days everybody has a smart phone camera, and it doesn't take much money or skill to set up a hidden video camera in a room.

My betting is on JB or Anna insisting that the Pillsbury Dough Prince wear an ankle monitor. And only use a computer while someone else is in the room and can look at the screen. And maybe he'll just have a flip phone. No smartphones or iPads for Joshie.

The dude could find that "returning home" could be really really worse than Jesus Jail. Because he'll be expected to DO something. No doubt in connection with one of JB's businesses.

Great points. Look what happened to Meri from Sister Wives. And since the Duggars don't trust themselves or others, increasing accountability will really be no big deal for anyone but Josh.

To put it really really bluntly: He's fucked.

He won't be left alone long enough to wipe his own ass once he returns. There is some serious animosity going on there and sadly, not cus he molested his sisters or screwed around on his wife...cus he messed with their livelihood .bread and butter. God might forgive him for that but his father never will.

I think Josh will go AWOL from TTH. The combination of no freedom, no money, only being allowed to speak when spoken to, and going from top of the heap to bottom of the pile is beyond what I think he has the ability to endure. After he runs away he'll find a June Shannon type to shack up with.

The betting pool for how fast Josh cheats again? My "Josh" sometimes cheated again a scant two days after I caught him, and he told me how "sorry" he was... again. Even if he doesn't score right away, nobody surfs backpage.com or eccie.net just to look at pretty pictures.

There's ways to get prepaid smart phones that nobody knows about or can trace...

Just curious.  Are you saying it is not possible for someone to accept the Lord (or go through therapy or something) and really change?  I can't be that cynical.

I think it's that/if a church and belief system doesn't dun into the sinner's head, that they have to work and be vigilant on not re-committing the sin.  (Though, teaching that saying it aloud is instantaneous forgiveness, doesn't help.)  Telling people that God forgives instantly, clearly doesn't do some any good, because they didn't commit to continuing to make the besetting sin part of their daily prayer ritual, etc.

LOL! That would be perfection! I guess as long as the June Shannon type made herself joyfully available and submiited in all things to His Headshit. ..or not...watching him have to squirm on his belly submitting to a woman who wears the pants would be the most karmic retribution EVER!

What would they call the series...Breaking Duggar? Styled as a hybrid between Breaking Amish and Deliverance....hmmmmmm.....disturbing...deeply, deeply disturbing!

Not completely impossible, but not probable.  It takes a lot of introspection to genuinely change.  Not just "whoops" because you were caught, and then swear up and down you've changed.

Yes, you're certainly right about that. Anna's been programmed to make her terrible decisions. The parents of this whole generation have done really terrible -- and terribly long lasting -- things to their kids. It's unforgivable, really.

I haven't seen the "counting on" episode because I don't have cable.  I'll see it whenever it becomes available someplace else.  I'm really not interested in the sorority sisters.  I don't know if Josh was able to see his siblings' response or not, or if he even cares to... the point is, he needs to be FORCED to.  Like Tom Hanks' character said on The Green Mile, "WATCH you bastard!  WATCH!!!"   That selfish son of a bitch... and yeah I do mean that literally too.

My heart breaks for Anna and the kids. She takes responsibility for all of Smugs' poor decisions. Anna, your husband is an adult, and makes his own choices. What he does, is not your fault.  I hope she sees the light and leaves him, but I doubt that'll happen. I cannot believe that these people think that staying with someone who forcibly touched his siblings, and cheated with a porn star is okay. Duggar Logic at it's finest.

The cheating is bad enough. The unprotected sex is terrible. I wonder if Josh even knew about protection. How far does their ignorance extend?

Maybe Josh is genuinely repentant. Who knows? He may have every good intention going forward. But given his issues, I don't see how they can just magically be cured. Maybe he can repress his inappropriate urges going forward, but I doubt the problems can actually not affect things going forward.

And this doesn't even include the breach of trust that Anna would have to come to terms with. Yeah, I know: forgive, forgive, forgive. But how do you forget?

I just remember Josh obsessively posting pix of his food. I found it odd to the point of thinking he had impulse control issues with food possibly due to food restriction in TTH. At the time I felt a bit sorry for him. Now I wonder if all that driving around and drive through fast food was in tandem with shady internet usage and strip club visits.

Porn stars are pretty clean. I think herpes is possibly endemic, but because condoms aren't used in porn, performers are tested for STDs on a very regular basis, monthy or fortnightly.

His FRC job was not particularly demanding, he had lots of time to fill.

Most of what I was talking about was the car lot years. He cleaned up his media presence with FRC job.

I think Josh tried to find someone to cheat with, and he ultimately had to hire a pornstar-prostitute using his low six figures FRC salary, he couldn't find a hookup in DC. In his car lot days, he couldn't score anyone then either, and he probably couldn't pay the going rate in Tontitown for a prostitute, he probably just got kicked out of lots of strip clubs.

That must have been terrible for you... but your "Josh" wasn't famous for two different scandals, with his face now familiar to many people who never watched the show. I think it would be really risky for him to even try now unless he had on a great disguise. And I completely agree that Boob will orchestrate an elaborate "accountability" team that will essentially amount to Josh being spied on 24/7. He really might wear a tracking ankle bracelet.

I guarantee every "find my iPhone" "track my kid" "good driving spy app" will be on every piece of technology that Josh owns. I won't be surprised to learn that Anna has given all their family money to Jim Bob under some guise of protection so that Josh has to return to the fold with no control over anything.

A reformed Josh is going to be key to the Duggar media circus returning, even just to the point that TLC can use the reruns. Jim Bob is going to have Josh handcuffed to his side 24/7 once he gets out of rehab.

I say it's all moot. Josh will never be on mainstream television again.  Regardless of the fact that he cheated on his wife - which I truly do not care, that's between him and his wife - he still molested his sisters.  And there are enough people who aren't so willing to gloss over the incidents, and the parents' role in that, to keep him in the neither regions of even the most terrible cable system.

Judging from the preview clips of Anna, she and the kids are living in the dorm rooms at the TTH, which I find incredibly odd. Anna's a grown, married woman. Does she really need a babysitter while Josh is away at Jesus Jail? I'm sure Michelle is happy as pie to have a new J'Slave take over nanny/homefoolin' duties, but I can't imagine Anna is happy living in that chaos. It seems tomato-staking does apply even when you're damn near 30.

So Anna, M1 and infant M4 live in the girls dorm, and M2 and M3 live in the boys dorms, but likely crawl into Anna's half bunk bed each night? That's fucked up.

It's more fucked up that it looks like they took over Jana's bed. Her name is stenciled onto the sleigh bed that they're crawling all over...

Odd and disturbing. It basically proves that Jim Bob and Michelle think of Anna as theirs (i.e. part of their brand), under their control like one of their own children. Why else would she not deserve the respect and privacy that Michelle gets? Anna's a married mother too. I just can't wrap my head around moving into my in-law's house after my husband, their stupid son, did that to me. Anna is absolutely under control. I vacillate wildly between feeling horribly for her and feeling like NOBODY is that stupid, she's just as in love with the gravy train as everyone else.

I am not a defender of theirs, but is it possible that Anna wants to be there?  She is alone with 4 small children and who knows what her money situation really is.  Maybe she is there under duress, which I get, but maybe she doesn't want to be alone in her misery taking care of those 4 children. Even though we think Josh is a pig, she says she still loves him and from personal experience (not molestation or prostitutes, but a girlfriend he left me for) love just doesn't end that minute.  It is a process.  It was hard for me to get over all that.  And maybe she doesn't want to be rescued by her brother.  We don't know what goes on/went on with them.

I'm not suggesting she's there under duress. The Duggars don't need to rely on duress. That's why I can't decide if I feel badly for her that she's so thoroughly brainwashed that she actually believes she's better off with the Duggars right now in some sort of twisted attempt at penance/forgiveness/unity/Jesus, or if I don't feel badly for her because there's no way she doesn't realize how much bullshit this all is but has herself become dependent on TLC checks as her 401k and so happily goes to bat for them whenever they ask her to. In either case, I do hope she realizes that if they will giddily throw Josh under the bus to try to save their show, she's not in any kind of privileged position. I mean, of course, the reality is that Anna is in a better position than any of them at this point, in terms of the potential to create her own income stream and thrive, but NOBODY TELL HER THAT. SHHH!

Totally agreed. I think Anna's in a pretty desperate situation. I hope she's doing what's best for her and the kids.  I'm not convinced she is and it might not be the choices I'd make, but still, I can see why someone might choose it.

No sympathy for Anna here. I believe she knows how much bullshit this all is, but she is a famewhore. What tipped the scales for me was her saying that Josh's behavior was a betrayal for Christians. WTF? She went on to say that their wedding and vows were viewed by Christians and those people were now aware of what has happened. If in any scenario Anna thinks that highly of herself and her pig husband and their ability to set an example for others, she is as arrogant as the rest of the clan. Her description of the situation as "it was hard" - really, Anna - is your vocabulary that limited?

That's true, it's pretty telling that Anna thinks that her undereducated, overinflated redneck douche of a husband banging strange (just like of millions of other undereducated, overinflated, redneck douche husbands) is so devastating for Christianity as a whole. Another layer of distaste, for me, is the fact that everything they're doing now is cloying, desperate, transparent begging of the public to continue to accept them. "I am so sorry to all of the Christians that were betrayed by my husband banging a porn star!" is Famewhoreese for "Please still think we look good!"

I have virtually no sympathy for Anna until she address the ' I knew he was a molester when I married him' press release. She's in a tough spot - but she made her (Jana's) bed.

WTH does Jana sleep? Jessa's couch between diaper changes?

Odd and disturbing.

What, moving into the dorm room designed to prevent further molestation of his sisters by your husband? Having your four kids slide into Duggar kid roles so easily? A nearly 30 year old woman with no agency? Sleeping yards away from sexorium the people who created/enabled/ignored/bungled a child molester? (I'd also like to hear Jill explain what 'safeguards' Jill is putting in place - since she seems to see her own son as a potential criminal)

This is exactly what hit me. What unbelievable arrogance. Honestly the whole family's "We're so betrayed because our family stands for a belief in marriage" shtick is annoying. Anna, for pity's sake, a whole lot of the godless heathens are doing "marriage" much better than you and Josh have managed.

We cannot forget the extreme patriarchy they live by. Part of their belief system centers around "umbrellas of authority" and protection. Women ALWAYS need to be under male authority, father and later husband. Because Josh is not currently able to meet their standards as her authority, she must live with either her father or Boob. Living alone with the kids is simply not an option. And I'm guessing she prefers all the hustle and bustle of the busy house, which might help take her mind off things, the friendship of Jana, Jinger and Joy, and all the free childcare.
