I appreciated the HB2 discussion. Living in Raleigh, I've heard nothing but opposition to it, so it's interesting to see such a difference of opinion just a short distance away. It's definitely hard for older, religious folks to understand how someone could be transgender, but the younger customers there also didn't quite seem to understand, even though they were more supportive.

But then it really fell apart with that ex-ACLU lady.

Body shaming! I couldn't believe she went there! Well, actually I can.

I couldn't decipher everything in that convo because of all of the over-talk but it seemed like  they were kind of calling-out Sunny for being uncomfortable around full-nudity. I don't belong to a gym but I'm pretty sure that what she described might feel awkward to me too.

Earlier this year I went for a spray on tan. My first.  I had on a thong and I thought they would give me pasties but they didn't. So there I was for the most part naked in front of a woman I did not know and I was extremely uncomfortable.  The person doing the spraying didn't seem uncomfortable.  Being uncomfortable around nudity is not body shaming.  I swear Whoopi likes to be contrary for no reason other than to be contrary.

I have seen naked women for years at the gym.  At first. ..20 years ago....it was a surprise,  but then, no big deal.  I can now undress in a locker room by the lockers without embarrassment.  I don't walk around. Maybe it's a maturity thing.  Sunny was stupid. Just look in their eyes.

What Sunny was describing was about boundaries. There is no reason for a naked person to approach a stranger and get in their face to have conversation, locker room or not. Whoopi was obnoxious as usual and was reaching for the moon and stars with her "body shaming comment. Give me a break. She always has to be the loudest to have the final opinion. She abuses her moderator position just so she can do that. She is insufferable.

Sounded to me like she was a good fit for the ACLU ... until they dared to venture into the area of transgender rights.  Then suddenly she has all kinds of problems with side effects of some proposed legislation that sound valid, but are curiously timed to coincide with her new concern about "the bodily security" of women and girls in the bathroom.  A concern she claims suddenly developed on the heels of her daughters being traumatized by seeing some big scary men (they were six feet tall!  with deep voices!) in the bathroom.  

I guess she thinks it's better to limit the rights of transgender people than it is to educate her children about the subject.  Because she can't possibly talk to her children about why those people were in the girl's bathroom or what being transgender means.  They are children!!!! Which is odd because she seems to have managed to communicate a paralyzing fear of transgender people being in the bathroom to her children quite successfully.  I'm not sure why she can't take it a step further and explain that not everyone is the same, that is okay, and there is nothing to be afraid of.  

I suspect it is because she simply doesn't feel that way.

The ACLU is well rid of her.

Has Miss Whoopi ever been to a gym?  At least the gym I go to, there are unwritten "rules"  that people adhere to.  I have not seen women walking around naked.  Women change, they shower, they might walk back to their locker in a towel.  But you have a locker, and when you're changing, you kind of face the locker, and don't engage in chit-chat until you have clothes on.  Talking to a friend while you are both changing is OK.  Approaching a stranger while either one of you is in a state of undress is NOT.  

Suny was not "body shaming".  Body shaming would be if she said the woman was overweight, or saggy, or some negative comment regarding her body no being good enough for her to be parading around nude.

Seriously, though ... I am sick of this shaming nonsense being hurled around.  Sometimes it's valid, but too often people accuse others of "shaming" just because someone has a different opinion about something than the other person insists they should have.  They make a judgment about the other person's thought processes because lord knows it's not possible someone could have a valid reason to not share their opinion.  It must be because you have some nasty or petty motivation.  You're shaming! 

Today was a perfect example.  Whoopi apparently thinks the naked woman chatting up Sunny is fine, but Sunny doesn't.  So Sunny must have some ugly reason to feel that way.  So Whoopi accuses her of body shaming.  As has already been pointed out, Sunny did nothing of the sort. She wasn't complaining about seeing the other woman's body because she thought there was something wrong with it and saying she needs to cover that mess up. She just meant she was not comfortable with this nude woman cornering her to have a conversation within the close confines of the locker room.  That's not shaming. That is Sunny being inhibited. Or shy.  Or a prude.  Or it is Sunny being a perfectly reasonable woman who was a little uncomfortable with a naked chick she didn't know fanning out over her in the locker room.  People could see it differently.  Unfortunately Whoopi refuses to accept that not everyone happens to see things the way she does, so she hurls the "S" word.  Suddenly Sunny has less time to make her original point that Whoopi doesn't like because she has to defend herself from Whoopi's allegation.  How convenient, lol. 

I don't know ..... maybe I am giving Whoopi too much credit and the fact is she really doesn't even understand what "body shaming" even is.  Perhaps she thinks it encompasses any comment about a person's body that could be construed as even remotely negative, even when the attempt to create shame has nothing to do with it.  She's a dumbass and full of herself and it wouldn't surprise me at all. She throws around words and phrases and concepts she doesn't really understand all the time.  Maybe she has just jumped on the shaming bandwagon without grasping what it really means.  It's pretty popular right now. 

Anyway. As stupid as her shaming accusation was, what bothered me more was Whoopi repeatedly shouting at Sunny to STAY HOME if she didn't like it.  Where the hell does she get off deciding for everybody that nudity is fine and going to be the norm and anyone who doesn't like it is in the wrong and they need to isolate themselves?   She was such a bitch about it.  Is there really no alternative for Sunny other than never going back to the gym again? Maybe she could find a way to avoid the nudity, or learn to accept it?  Nope.  Not according to Whoopi.  If Sunny doesn't share Whoopi's opinion, that's it for her.  She needs to stay the hell home because the world is going to be run Whoopi's Way and there is no room for anyone who disagrees! 

She's so freaking overbearing some days I don't know how the other women at the table can keep from yelling at her to shut the hell up,

I didn't think it was inappropriate that she brought out toys. I thought it was inappropriate that she made the segment and the man's story all about herself (and so did the show when they were advertising it at the beginning), but I'll agree she wasn't quite as obnoxious and patting-herself-on-the-back as she usually is at times like this.

And not to nitpick, but, while he seemed to like most Disney films, The Lion King was not his favorite; he said The Little Mermaid was his favorite during the interview. In the video, there was a poster of the film in the background and it featured pretty prominently in the NYT article. Too bad Jodi Benson or Pat Carroll couldn't have appeared along with Gottfried. EDIT: My bad, I checked myself via Google, and it’s Aladdin. For some reason, I thought he said TLM at one point on the show? Oh, well. At least I wasn't 100% wrong; it isn't TLK. lol

Yes, that was the worst part. So what if Sunny is a prude or uncomfortable with nudity? Who cares? She has a right to go to the gym without being accosted by nude women. Didn't Whoopi argue not long ago about women breastfeeding in a restaurant? That article last year that called her the co-host who always looks to start a fight was so on-point. I finally got to watch the rest of the show.  I LOVE Clay Aiken.  I thought he was great in wanting to have an honest conversation about this law in NC, and he was respectful and able to listen to different points of view, didn't argue with the people he interviewed. 

I was pissed at Paula for trying to interject some crap about "what if a transgender person wants to compete in the Olympics?"  Fuck you and your slippery slope, Paula. That is a different conversation.  The bill in NC was about using public toilets, something every transgender person has the right to do, not about athletic competitions.

Too many horrific true news stories of boy assaulted in a McDonald's men's room while his parents ate their burgers, little girl in Las Vegas killed by 20-something creep at a hotel-casino, etc. Maybe a gender-neutral restroom could be required, in addition to standard male or female only restrooms? Off to seek needed enlightenment...

BUT -   Do you know how many cases have been reported  of transgender people molesting kids in a bathroom? Zero.  Nobody is trying to make it legal to molest kids. transgender people are not asking for the right to hide in the bathrooms and assault people.   transgender women are going to the bathroom to pee and to fix their hair and makeup, that's it.  No danger.  AND - in a ladies restroom, there are stalls with doors.  It's not like anyone is going to see what kind of genitalia the person in the next stall has.  yes, kids have been assaulted in bathrooms.  By weirdo creepy pedophiles.  Not by transgender people.  You know who else gets assaulted in bathrooms?  transgender women.  Transgender women are raped, beaten, killed by men who are threatened by their very existence.  maybe this will help -  if a person born female transitions to male, and appears male, dresses like a man, had a beard, and nobody can tell he is transgender,  Under the law passed in NC, that person must use the ladies restroom. So, in trying to protect girls, you end up with a man in the ladies room, just because that man had been born female.   The young woman shown in the clip on The View - the one who looks female, identifies as female, the one who had the long blond hair and said she was harassed when she was transitioning - under the NC law, she has to use the men's room at work. The movie "Boys Don't cry" is a great movie about a transgender young man.  Hillary Swank won an Oscar for her portrayal of someone born female who felt, acted, dressed, male.

My jaw dropped when the ACLU lady was asked if she had discussed transgender issues with her 20 and 11 yo kids and her reply was "They are children!"  Really?  Must we protect the children?  I would think of all people, someone who worked for the ACLU would encourage her kids to be around people of all races, religions, and genders.

Ah, see here's the thing. Passing that bill was purely a political move by the conservative general assembly to keep their stranglehold on the state come November. I believe the main point is is to limit individual cities from setting their own anti-discrimination laws and setting their own minimum wage. Plus, it limits individuals' rights to sue for discrimination at the state level.

But, make it all about "protecting women and children" and that's all people hear.

Whoopi is completely wrong in the locker room discussion.  Gym goer for many years and this is indeed uncalled for behavior.

Transgender and bathrooms.  I am a liberal so I think the law is stupid.  But seriously, I never, ever use a public restroom.  I have friends who are constantly in the public restroom and it grosses me out.  I also never have any bathroom issues so I take care of it at home and I get that many people have many issues.

It's great for you that you have never used a public restroom and are grossed out by them. I use them all the time. Always have. And have never had a problem/issue in any of them around the country or world unless you count a baby being changed who has a stinky diaper. But I am not offended or threatened by it.  I think these laws are trying to chip at the Marriage Equality Act the same way women's health has been behind the abortion restriction (when it isn't really about women's health at all) If this has been mentioned already I apologize. And of course YMMV.

on the subject of whoopi usually not knowing what the hell she is talking about (yet speaking as if she just finished her thesis on the subject), the other day she referred to a woman as wearing a "habib". Habib is a male Muslim name. The correct word  for the short female head covering is "hijab". Personally, I wish whoopi would wear a NIQAB (which covers from head to floor and only a small slit for eyes , and even that is often covered by translucent film). To think that there was once a time when I was rooting for her to join the table!

 Idiot Whoopie. She wants all of our airports fortified against terrorists. How? Do we have armed swat team members stationed at every ten feet interval? Do we only allow ticketed passengers to be dropped off at a destination away from the terminals, so that no bomb laden automobile could come close to the airport? The mayor needs to protect the people in the green spaces and parks in New York City. How?  Do we build big walls around them with the National Guard stationed outside? Then she spouts off about how she hates more taxes! There is no way that you can protect everyone in public places.

Since 9/11 we have spent trillions of dollars on security measures, some of which were pure waste, but I admire our police and emergency responders for doing an excellent job in keeping many attacks from happening and planning for responding to future attacks. I've always admired the people who live in NYC and Washington DC who chose to keep living there and continue on with their lives, knowing that their cities are vulnerable, but they don't let it stop them from living. I doubt that they get in tizzies like Whoopie, otherwise they would be paralyzed.

Odd, too, that Joy was completely cut out of the little tribute to Miss Whoopi thing and her (in)famous quotes. Glad Joy made it known that noone had clued her in on it (and she was annoyed about that). Was it sort of a lead in to Samuel L. praising Miss Whoopi for her standing up for him and Spike Lee at Cannes 25 years ago? I did enjoy his story about golfing with #Drumpf. Of course, Trump cheats. No surprise there.

Why does Sara feel the need to constantly mention the size of her rack? I'm sick of hearing about it.   She manages to work the phrase  "because I've always been so big on top" into every conversation even remotely related to the human body or self image or fashion.  Jeez.  And her breasts don't even look all that big to me.  If you want to see someone who is "big on top" check out Sherri Shepherd, Sara.  Then give it a rest, okay? 

And yes, Airhead, you did use the expression placebo effect wrong.  That is when a drug with no real medicinal value actually has an effect because you believe it will.  You were talking about not trusting the behavior of your partner because you think it might be medically induced.  That's just called "doubt" you twit. 

The Whoopi ass-kissing "empowerment" quotes almost made me yak up breakfast.  Then Sunny actually came out and pronounced that Whoopi is a sage. A SAGE.  What a crock of shit.  Where the hell did this tribute to Whoopi come from, anyway?  They came back from a commercial and Whoopi pretended to start to introduce a topic and Sara interrupted her and started reading from some list someone compiled.  What a sickening load of crap that was.  The worst part was Whoopi trying to look all humble.  Why do they feed into her massive ego? She's going to be extra unbearable for weeks after this!  

And in the spirit of her response to Sunny yesterday about how she should stay the hell home if she doesn't want some naked chick in her face at the gym ... Whoopi if you don't want to pay taxes, move to freaking RUSSIA. Get out of America. We pay taxes here, that's the way it is.  If you don't like it, hit the road! LEAVE!

I was stunned today by the Whoopie love fest..The bitch is Teflon..I cannot stand to look at her trying to be humble and bashful..The bitch was practically creaming her pants..I just don't get it..I know you guys will probably run me off the board for saying this, but, I want Barbara to come back and put the movie stah in her place..
