I have to admit that this panel has made me happy with the show again. The past week of this group has been rejuvenating after I spent the past two months hating everything but Joy. I thought last year’s panel (Nicolle and the two Rosie’s) was going to be close to the Lisa/Star years at the beginning, but everyone ended up too reserved to have a real discussion and Whoopi took everything in the worst direction. This panel though… They actually talk about substantive issues in interesting ways. I was happy there were no guests. Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather have Padma in place of Sara or Sunny and Whoopi can leave any time, but this is easily the best panel overall since the Joy/Star/Lisa years, imo. Let’s hope it doesn’t sour in the next 6 months….

Too bad they had to be interrupted during the cultural appropriation topic. And I agreed with Joy that two women would probably make many men berserk, but I think those same people are already berserk at the possibility of Hillary alone. I would like a combo of Clinton/Warren. Thankfully, Sunny was able to be objective and understand that her beliefs shouldn’t be forced onto other people re: abortion (unlike Paula). I really wish they could’ve talked about Texas’ desire to secede today…. LOL

It'll be nice to see Jordin Sparks again. Kelly Osbourne can stay away.

The thing about Sara (to me anyway) is that sometimes the show goes on for 15 or 20 minutes before she says something notable and I realize she is even there. Sometimes it takes longer, and I am like ... has she been there the whole time?

Airhead Sara Haines just sits there with this perplexed puzzled look on her face. Watch closely!!

She is almost 40 years old and should be able to contribute something.

I'm looking forward to Clay Aiken this week.  He can speak intelligently on a lot of issues.  He was an advocate for special needs children being included in programs, then turned to the issue of LGBT rights.    He also can be funny as hell.

I wonder if he will say anything about Trump, as Clay came in second to Arsenio on Celeb Apprentice.

WTH is Kelly Osbourne doing on this show. Isn't her mother's show enough to promote her damn crap!

That's exactly what I thought when I saw her name as one of Friday's guests.

Of course Whoopi thinks a black woman wearing a blonde weave is cultural appropriation(wtf?), this is the same woman who had her boyfriend Ted Danson show up to a roast in blackface. I'm glad Sunny was there and Raven when this topic was brought up. I cannot image the level of ignorance that would be rampant during that discussion. Why must she dominate every conversation?

I liked Whoopi saying "we are all pro-life".  yes.  isn't everyone pro-life?   I hate that the anti-abortion rights people took pro-life to further their agenda.  I didn't like Paula defending the conservative pro-life people by couching it in terms of what other right-wing people say, instead of owning it as her own opinion.  Closing abortion centers where the doctors don't have privileges at nearby hospitals?  That wouldn't work in a lot of areas.   Around here, there's a huge catholic hospital conglomerate that dominates the nearby hospitals.  they don't do abortions at any clinic affiliated with the hospital, and doctors who do abortions aren't going to get admitting privileges to the hospitals.   Paula talked about the doctors being lower quality doctors if they didn't have admitting privileges to a hospital, she needs to do her research, it's more complicated than that.

Leave it to dreadlocked Whoopi to claim that black women wearing "white" hairstyles is culturally appropriating. What was that movie where Whoopi morphed into an old white man via makeup and costume? Has it ever occurred to anyone that maybe Whoopi is really an old white man wearing a Whoopi costume?

Joy-I agree with you about the Little Richard/Pat Boone topic but for fucks sake, if you bring up this topic, know the black artist's name! If you want to make a salient point about the black artist's importance and their talent being dwarfed by a lesser talented white priveliged man-know the artist's name.

Thank goodness for Joy and even Whoops today. I used to escort women into abortion clinics back in the 80's, in a conservative,  mostly- Republican Midwest state. Most of the doctors flew in from other places/states.  Many of the women also wd show up in cars from other states.

We wd talk to them, from car to clinic door,  in gentle, comforting tones and words to distract them from the crazies yelling and toting gruesome photos  nearby. Btw, I was raised Catholic. Pro-choice is  important for women to have.   Abortion is not ideal, of course, but sometimes necessary.

As always, Whoopie derailed a conversation that could have been thought-provoking and poignant into an incoherent mess..The show needs to send her to take classes on how to debate...I think what whoopie was trying to say that Black women could be accused of appropriating White culture by straightening their hair and wearing weaves..Hair is a touchy  and complex subject for Black women due to slavery, Whoopie should know this as a Black woman..The woman is a complete idiot and needs to leave the show pronto, but, I digress..

Our ancestors in Africa saw nothing wrong with their hair, until their interactions with Europeans via slavery and colonization.. There was even  a time when Black men used to perm their hair..It was done largely to assimilate to the dominant culture that saw you as less than human.. We live in a Eurocentric society, where European standard of beauty is the norm and it seeps into your subconscious and you act accordingly...It is why the wearing of Afros by Black people in the 60's and 70's, all over the world was so significant..It was about loving and accepting yourself..I think that is what Sunny was trying to say, but, Ms Whoopie was shouting like a banshee...The woman is infuriating..I am happy that Sunny held her own, while she was bloviating like a maniac..

People can wear their hair however they want..Blacks can perm their hair to make it straight and nonBlacks can lock their hair in order to have dreadlocks...I hate it when the panel act like Whoopie is the expert on all things Black, just because she is Black..In fact, I think that she is dangerous to the cause..She always downplays the Blacklivesmatter movement and police brutality in the Black community...Sunny is just as Black as she is..Sunny is Afro-Latina, if we are going to get technical here...I want Whoopie gone, but, unfortunately, we have to put with this bitch for another year....

I really appreciated Joy FINALLY pointing out to Sunny that when discussing abortion* pro-life is actually anti-choice.  That's the accurate and preferred term by pro-choice advocates.

Paula can't help herself!!!  She defends Trump even when she doesn't know what he said or did in Scotland.  Gawd!!

That was bad - even for Paula.  That was Bitsy-level bad.    I wonder if Paula looked at any media - mainstream network, cable, Twitter etc. at all this weekend.  Whenever Trump was mentioned it was about how clueless his remarks in Scotland were - Rachel Maddow even showed some of the hilarious Tweets from some disgusted Scotts to Trump.

*If the topic was the death penalty some of those same people who call themselves pro-life suddenly aren't (pro-life) so much anymore.

Thank goodness I tuned in today to hear Whoopi Goldberg, The Expert on Everything explain that Supreme Court did exactly what she said they should do.  Also, to explain the Supreme Court to me.   Her little history on Roe V. Wade was lacking but I'm going to let that slide because I think there are too many women who don't understand what women endured before abortion, a medical procedure, was legal and safe and because this is The Spew.

And while the Texas decision made the headlines, I wonder if Joy and Whoopi are aware how access to a safe legal abortion is practically non-existant in  many states for the exact reasons Joy mentioned.  The chipping away at laws just like the this one mentioned in Texas by anti-choice state legislatures has been going on for a very long time.

Not wanting to "stick it in & twist it", but my heart breaks for all the women who are denied access to pharmaceutical/surgical intervention.  Here in Canada, it's very simple & "in my day", before abortion was "in", a Doctor would say you needed a "D&C" & then say "whoops, she was pregnant!".

Done!!!

I live in Canada and my doctor called it a "therapeutic D&C" and the hospital staff knew that meant abortion.  This was in 1972.

So funny  that it has CCB and Raven in the pic and they are NEVER on the show together!!

When was the last time those five sat together? It is always airhead Sara Haines and Sunny/Raven until  Raven is gone.

What a boring show today. Seemed like Whoopi ate up most of the airtime. Only other co-host I remember talking was Sunny.

I'd read the NYT article Gottfried mentioned a while back, and it was quite an amazing story. I'm not sure why the show had to make it all about Whoopi when she only played a background character with a handful of lines 20 years ago.

I know it’s such a little thing to let it bother me, but I’m so sick of “whatever View you happen upon.” And it’s not just because it represents Whoopi’s middle finger to the show and her desire to have complete control over everything, but because it sounds so ****ing stupid.

I tuned in for Elizabeth Warren and I thought it was well done. Big kiss from Joy! lol I thought Gottfried and the kid could have run a few lines but Paula had to cut it short because Miss Whoopi the movie star had to make her entrance with the Disney goodies. Bitch! I also noticed Joy's face when Whoopi gives her final "whatever View you happen upon" bullshit. I don't think Joy is a fan.

And we can't hear the guests because they are always being interrupted and cut off.  Besides, how many times has Whoopi Goldberg The Great told us she doesn't care what we think?  Dumbest promo ever.

I think it's Whoopi's middle finger to not only the show but to Babs specifically.   I'm sure it bothers the hell out of Babs if she even bothers to watch this mess.   It may be called The View but Whoopi has been trying to make it The Whoopi Goldberg Hour ever since Babs left.

I thought it was a pretty good show today (and yes, there is a low bar).  The hot topics were relevant, there was no heated arguing, and they let Elizabeth Warren speak. Not a bad job for this panel.

Paula had defended  the Texas legislators trying to limit abortions by saying they were trying to make abortions "safer for the mothers".  This is exactly the same verbiage that Fox News has used.  And, it's inaccurate on many levels.  Referring to women seeking abortions as "mothers"?  Not cool.   But also, it's the lie that the intent was anything other than limiting access to abortions, because attempts to ban abortion altogether has been blocked.  Paula is becoming as transparent as Bitsy was as far as repeating talking points from other sources.

Fox News is now mocking Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren for "matching pantsuits and hairstyles".  Is that Paula's next move?

I never watch Paula on GMA and barely heard of her before The View. I'm now wondering if she is just stupid or if The View brings out the worst in her.

Wow, leave it to Whoopi to show up as a "special guest" on the same show she's on everyday.  "We heard you wanted to meet Whoopi Goldberg and guess what!?  She's here!"  She comes from backstage carrying a basket of stuffed animals for the 25 year old fan of a 25 year old movie.  My cold heart thought it was lame.

And remind me again who at the table actually studied law by attending a law school because Whoopi trying to tell Sunny what's what regarding the law is laughable.  But then Whoopi does consider herself the resident Expert on Everything.

I did enjoy Sarah's quip about the table being just like a "family dinner" when Joy interrupted her because she found the name of the website she (Joy) wanted everyone to look at (the one listing all of Trumps gazillion lies on record).   Sarah had actually started speaking because Joy was looking frantically for her notes.

I lived in New York in the early 1970s, when it was one of the few states to have legal abortions pre-Roe v. Wade. (And, WOW, a lot of young teenaged relatives and friends of friends came from out of state to stay with my family for a week at a time.) I believe the law stated that an abortion could be performed only if the life of the woman was endangered, so whispered folklore was passed from woman to woman that the key phrase was "If I have to carry this pregnancy to term, I will kill myself." I was too young to have sex at that point, but that phrase was drilled into my head by many adults, including my pediatrician, just in case the need should ever arise. I can't believe we're back to this point in the United States.

I'd bet good money that if RO had called the Red Cross pool safety poster racist, Whoopi would've told her "no it isn't. You don't know what racism is."

Who was it that said they "didn't notice" it Paula or Sunny?   Because it really does make me wonder about all the checks I've written to the Red Cross over the years that this poster passed several approval processes and no one noticed it?   Yikes.

However, did we really need Whoopi and her oversized sloppy blazer (with what I could swear was a hole in the back of the arm) getting up and pointing to it while spouting more racial stereotypes "For one thing, there would be no Black people in the pool."  I saw the same item on CBS This Morning and they did it with graphics.  Then again, CBS This Morning is actually a good show.

So agree about CBS This Morning. Love Charlie, Gayle and Norah - complete professionals, knowledgable and likable. If only Whoopi would take in that show prior to going on air, she'd be a lot better informed. Instead, she won't even take the time to go over the teleprompter notes before the show.

It would be great if she isn't there. I just assumed we'd have to be subjected to her because of the video. (Personally, I'd love to have Jordin Sparks replace her as "the young one" who appears on Friday's to fill in for Sunny or Paula. Hopefully she does a good job tomorrow.)

EDIT: I just had a thought to chill the blood: Could you imagine if they replaced Raven with Kelly Osbourne? *shudder* You can’t win for losing with this show, so it’s possible. Hopefully she drops another racist bomb to ruin her chances just like last year.

I remember she had a meltdown during the break about being perceived as a racist with all of tweeter going after her..I remember Rosie Perez was so upset and was a bit harsh  with her during tepid topics ..However, she was forced by the producers to basically say that Kelly Osbourne was not a racist...lol That is when I knew that Rosie was not going to last on the show....I find Kelly to be just as reprehensible as her mother Sharon..Can someone explain it to me like I am Sherry, why is she famous?

The Osbourne's was the first "reality" show on TV (that I know of) & I watched it out of curiosity.  I was "shocked & appalled" that Ozzie was obviously drunk (high) most of the time & their herd of dogs pee'd & pooped all over their fancy carpets.  It was disgusting.  The family ate take out like animals & were seriously in need of therapy.  I only watched a few episodes & stopped out of total revulsion.

Sharon is in need of therapy and she has said that she takes medication to function..I am not surprised that they let their dogs run rampant like that..I remember reading that Sharon used to defecate in gift boxes with cryptic notes and sent them to critics who dared to criticize her husband Ozzie...lol  . I'm still shocked in retrospect that they forced Rosie Perez to apologize to that reality trash. And that she even went along after she was already out the door at that point. I would've told them to screw themselves, that, sorry, I don't know how to read the teleprompter well-enough to deliver her an apology.

Especially funny since it happened after Kelly Osbourne had just thrown Giuliana Rancic (who I don't like either, just to be clear) under the bus for some racist comment as her way to jump ship from Fashion Police. LOL I have no doubt she was looking at The View as replacement income for FP.
