Yes, according to that list, since Jeremy has been ordained, he fits the bill, and I would assume that applies even if his church isn't much more than a home church. That all changes if they take the tax deductions, I imagine.. JB, however, is not ordained and as such is not considered clergy. He's not a mandated reporter under any of the criteria listed. Anyone, even kids, can preach. But they're not trained in, well, anything other than pontificating about the bible.

Remember that sign you passed, a little ways back, which said to stick the path because there were raging waters ahead? It appears it was missed because we're at the raging waters. Let's turn around and get back on the on topic path. Some off topic musings and speculation: OK. Going into detailed discussion of a mandatory reporter, not ok.

Thanks!

I'm hoping Babe & Jinge spend Christmas day with the Vuolos so Jinge can get to know what being with a real family on a holiday is all about.  I'm talking about wrapping paper flying everywhere, Uncle George cracking his corny jokes, laughing & reminiscing about past holidays and  Christmas tunes play in the background. Followed by a huge homemade dinner.  I wonder if the Vuolos celebrate the Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve? I'm sure that would be a new experience for Jinge.

It's probably gotten a little livelier at the TTH with the younger kiddos around on Christmas Day but I'm still picturing the waiting room look with barely anyone speaking yet alone laughing.  Followed by Stouffer's lasagna for dinner.

If this branch of the Vuolos do Feast of the Seven Fishes, it's (maybe) Grandma or a cousin. It was never established if the senior Vuolos are Catholic or converted. At any rate, no Christmas Eve Fishes for Jinger, I'm afraid.

Why not? Certainly people may leave a church to attend another or not at all, but I'm sure they keep some of their ethnic traditions going...

Exactly...I haven't been to church in years and my kids are all pretty much atheists, but we all still celebrate the Polish Christmas Eve celebration (Wigilia - big on fish dishes as well, with plenty of vodka becuse "a fish needs to swim!") handed down from my parents. It's kind of nice to have that Christmas Eve tradition because it can be handed down without impacting on the more traditionally Christmas Day celebrations from the other side of the family. I'm sure all my kids will probably keep it going at least to some extent once they have families of their own. I only have the one son-in-law so far, but he's been celebrating this with our family for the whole 9 years he and my daughter have been together now.

I suppose it's possible that the Duggars would somehow find the very thought of  such a "ritual" even remotely connected to the Catholic church to be tainted by evil, but that really would take a special brand of xenophobia....

My Ex Husband's family certainly did. They were non- church-attending Italian Catholics, who celebrated the        " Feast Of The Seven Fishes" every Christmas Eve.

My xMIL was Catholic Italian who married a Baptist and became a non-dom bible based Christian (really a Baptist) but there was always fried shrimp and another fish plus a pasta at Christmas whenever the family came whether it was eve or day. Not exactly 7 fishes but a nod to a more traditional Italian past. So it probably has a lot to do with how strong those past  traditions really were. BTW is it the dad's side or the mom's that's Italian? I only ask because often traditions are stronger if Mom is doing the organizing and work for the holiday.

Like the Duggar brand of xenophobia, for instance?

Jeremy does have much better writing skills than anyone else in the family.  Perhaps we won't be assaulted by horrible grammar with him.

Maybe he even has some sensibilities. Reading his spiel about the stars, I couldn't help but think of one of my favorite things about Australia and New Zealand -- the incredible southern night sky. I couldn't get enough. It's next to impossible to get such skies in the northern hemisphere. It'd be nice if he'd been inspired by that.

Of course, every time I think there's something more to a Duggar or a Duggar adjacent they immediately pretend to a tv audience that they created a football camp for poor children. So I suppose he copied this from someone.

His grammar is not terrible though. So that's something.

He may not have copied it, at least not entirely, though the sentiment sounds rather second-hand. Still, I would think the sight of something inspiring might easily translate to something someone else might have written under similar circumstances. Plenty of people write publishable work without being literary geniuses.

I still haven't made my mind up about him...I think he is genuine overall, and that he has enough intelligence and individuality to potentially make a happy match for  Jinger, but that self-loathing related to all things of the flesh that came through on his masturbation sermon still makes me nervous. I think he has some serious hangups in that department, and seriously screwy ideals which may not be humanly possible and I wonder how that will manifest when either he or Jinger fail to measure up in some way.

Wow, Jeremy and Jinger just dumped us. One lousy sermon post and that's it?

Guess they are too busy messing up Jinger's hair to be on social media?

Well, aside from his sermons, I haven't gotten the impression that Jeremy has much to say.

And I've never noticed Jinger having much to say out of her own motivation either.

Jessa and Jill have always been more of talkers, displayers, and so on than Jinger. If Jana'd gotten married, I doubt we'd hear so much from her either.

I've always got the vibe that Jinger really has a deep faith mindset and Jill has a superficial fairy-tale understanding of their faith. Jessa thinks she's a believer but gets a little confused between worshiping God and fame.

And I think their social media posts and lack there of support my vibe.

She has been wedded and bedded. So I guess we are done?

Well, maybe she'll get pregnant and start showing the profile of her belly button and arching her back a lot. And making duck lips.

Not. Luckily, I think Jessa's got that lane to herself.

You are totally right!!!!

Jinger might be the true believer in the group, which would explain why Jeremy liked her.  I think he is a bit looney but his faith is sincere.

Jill= Tooth fairy, magic fairies, delusional Derick, Jesus

Jessa = selfies, TV, hair, Jesus

Jinger=  ??  Looks like she might be the real deal in the entire crew

Hmmm...I actually hope that Jinger does write some things on social media and we can actually see what she is about, instead of crunchy hair and eye rolling on a reality show.

If anyone is interested, I was listening to Jeremy preach a sermon (don't ask) and he talked about his parents.

His mother (Dianna) was forbidden to date or marry his father (Charles) because Charles was a born again and Dianna's family was loose Catholic.  He said a war broke out and she did what she wanted which was to marry Charles.  He said fighting continued up until his sister was born and they did not christen her in a Catholic church.  Jeremy said after that, the topic fizzled out and his grandparents laid off. Jeremy said his grandmother eventually became a born again Christian but his grandfather never did.

To put the story in context, he was talking abut managing family when you have different religions and how to be respectful yet continue in your faith etc.  It was kind of an aside comment...like an example of what happened in his family.

(OK, you can ask, I listen to you tube while I write reports for work. I was curious about Jeremy's sermons)

I find it kind of ironic that the "loose Catholic's" family was opposed to the relationship and not the born again's family.

I don't. My paternal grandparents were in a similar situation (he was an active methodist, son of a minister, she was loose Italian Catholic - sent the kids to mass weekly, but weren't super devout - more culturally catholic than very devout believers/scholars), and it was a bigger deal to her family than his when they married.

We assume so. All we've heard from them since the sightings in Oz is the sermon that Jeremy posted to the blog earlier this week. They've been married over a month, so they're certainly back in the states somewhere.

I read on Facebook a comment from someone who said she ran into Jinger and Jana in CA-which I presume to be California? Canada? Jana apparently was nice, but Jinger didn't acknowledge her presence.

CA could be Central America

You don't "run into" people in Central America. This definitely feeds into my Hawaii trip theme. Derick confirmed the layover in CA (San Francisco). We don't know how long it was. Too bad if they were filming, it pretty much rained their whole time here. LOL

If Jana was there, it's filmed, they already did Asia, so Hawaii is the only destination left.

How nice would it be for Jeremy -- and for Jinger -- to spend most/all of the holidays with HIS family? If he has to spend it at the Duggars, he'll be blown away by the miserable silence of it all -- though I guess he can pal around with Bin when it gets to uncomfortable. At his house, I imagine things are livelier even with this batshit fundie parents. I imagine his siblings coming and going, maybe he has aunts and uncles that bring some personality, Christmas music playing, baked goods everywhere, maybe they do the 7 fishes on Christmas Eve - or maybe they don't but do a fish dish and/or some other Italian traditional foods, and then of course either they go to grandmas for Christmas or she comes to them - and we KNOW she has some spunk and personality. And then if they're in town for 3-5 days -- they can go up to NYC for a day or two; maybe hang with Luis and his family and Jinger can see what a regular household with married 20 somethings is like etc.

All of this would be so good for Jinger. To be around "regular" (albeit fundie) families where there is real laughter, real friends etc. -- not just made for TV friends or an attitude of - oh we don't need friends, my 5 yr old sister is my BFF!! Though I know I had the same "dreams" for Jill -- that being around Derick's college educated, executive mom and being around his college educated friends and being around a college educated husband who presumably is into news, sports, TV etc. would make her more "worldy." We can see how that turned out. Though I tell myself, Jill was/is WAY more of a kool aid drinker than Jinger, so she probably resisted a lot more to any part of Derick's life that she viewed as fundie-lite and instead pulled Derick into her direction of fundy-ism. Plus Derick isn't the manliest of men -- I imagine conversations between them sounding like a 6th grade boyfriend and girlfriend -- i.e. "what do you want to do, I don't know, what do you want to do." So then when Jill suggested Christmas with her family, Derick ran with it. I view Jer as more of the "traditional" headship. If he wants Christmas with his family, he'll make it known and Jinger may actually want to follow bc she seems over her family anyway - besides Jessa; frankly maybe she's even over Jessa a bit bc I imagine it hurt to be "dropped" as she was when Jessa got married and had a baby and decided her new BFF was Jill bc they have sooo much in common now that a single BFF just wouldn't get.

I actually got a little indignant that Michelle stole the spotlight from Jinger to put it on Josie.  She invited her NICU nurse to the wedding just to put the flower crown on Josie's head.  Why?!?!?  Her birthday is Dec. 10.  And she went home from the hospital in the spring.  This was NOT an anniversary of any kind that we knew of, and it's clear that this is some sort of "make Josie feel even MORE special" thing that no one cares about other than Michelle.  Otherwise it would've been done along with the rest of the family.  It felt like Michelle snuck that in there for extra TLC footage and to get herself more face time.

There was a HUGE focus on Josie this episode.  She is cute and all but this was supposed to be about JINGER.  And to a lesser extent, Jeremy ?.  Sorry, but this was Jinger's day to shine.  It should've stayed that way.

You think Josie's cute?  I always thought she looks like an alien.  She's homely.

Her wedding pictures are so beautiful and they really look natural together!

There is a picture of him before they were married.  He is leaning against a white block wall somewhere with his arms tightly crossed.   She seems to be grabbing at his arm, to get him to "open up".  His body language in that pic says everything to me.  He is completely closed off to her.  I don't like him, he doesn't seem sincere, every smile seems forced, and I think he has some sort of agenda.

You mean not all brides and grooms have their parents also kiss?

Do you know why his mom is wearing black? Because she is in mourning that her son married into this wacked out family.

In another picture the dress looked blue.  I think the color is off in this pic.  Michelle's dress is a brighter purple than this.

I refuse to watch the wedding, but...they...they had a kiss-off? In a church? This is all kids of gross and pathetic and narcissistic. No one cars about your love lives, your marriages. They just don't.

It's probably just to carry stuff. If they're out and about, they're going to need things, like money and whatnot. I always have my cross-body messenger bag on me, so I'm never without my wallet, bus pass folder, bottle of water, book (tracts for them probably) etc., but my hands are free, and because I wear it across, I don't have to worry about it constantly sliding down my arm.

Jeremy spent enough time in Europe, where a murse makes sense to hop public transit or ride a bicycle.
