It was in common usage in the 70s, and I always hated it.  I was glad years later when I discovered "shag", a middle-of-road word between making love and the f word.  Of course Brits find it hysterical when hearing the baseball phrase, "shagging ground balls."  😁

When I did some editing for a school newspaper, I was told to read every headline with the same mindset as a thirteen-year-old boy. It's some of the finest advice I've ever received when it comes to communications. Someone probably needed to do that with that slogan before unleashing it on the world.

“Balling” was a popular euphemism for sex back in the Seventies. I haven’t heard it used that way in years.

In contemporary slang, it's sometimes also used to mean -- living the high life and enjoying yourself with enviable luxuries, basically. 

I remember an episode of Project Runway a few years ago where a group of designers named their collection of going-out clothes "Ballin' on a Budget." And since nobody in that group was even alive in the 70s, nobody smirked.

I also think it’s nice he’s playing soccer. Many of his behaviors are annoying but this isn’t one—and I don’t think he’s doing it to prove he has friends.
