S05.E08: Mom vs. Mom

You know, one doesn't have to be paid for sex in order to be labeled such a term. The definition of that word is also "one who is sexually promiscuous" and "having compromised one's principles for gain". I think all of these girls on this show fall under being MTV's wh**re, including the rest of the cast. Maci gives away sex in order to gain a guy. Farrah did it for money. I sure don't know what the difference is, not to mention, porn is a legal career.

Farrah and Maci are two of a kind and pretty much very similar. They both put on fake smiles when necessary and they both are hypocrites. I will stand my ground that I enjoy everything Farrah is throwing Maci's way. Now, I long for the day when someone throws shit in Farrah's face for the crap she has done.

I noticed the wine Amber was drinking. Yeah, she is not serious about her sobriety.

I'm not going to say I disagree with you. But, Farrah does NOT own up to her choices, at all. Her denial is what I'm responding to.

Amber and Catelynn were against Farrah returning to the show, too. They just decided to let it go, unlike Maci.

Where did they say this? I don't recall that at all. From my memory, when production told Amber and Cate on camera, they had very different reactions from Maci. They both seemed totally fine with it, and Amber even commented on the fact that if SHE with HER background (jel and drugs) can be on, why shouldn't Farrah? I recall Cate and Tyler mentioning that they've had issues with Farrah personally, but that didn't seem to be a reason for her not to be on the show.

Perhaps they personally didn't want her, but decided to keep that off camera. Have they given interviews or something stating they were opposed to her returning?

Breaking the wall just reinforces to me how vulnerable and lonely both Farrah and Amber are. Catelynn, Tyler, and Maci treat their producers in a friendly but professional way.  They reveal just enough for the cameras but mostly have boundaries. Amber seems to think her producer is her best friend and "confides" in her even though she knows her confidence is going to be broadcast to the world. Farrah alternates between tantrums and Amber level intimacy (because that's Farrah, she just doesn't treat people well). Both of the latter girls are just so lonely.

I felt so sad for Amber AND Farrah when Amber was explaining to Farrah that by posting on Twitter, Farrah alienated herself and hurt Amber (and Cate's) feelings when it was uncalled for. Farrah doesn't say anything but I feel like Farrah is the type of person who is just going to lash out because of the walls she's built. She doesn't trust Amber and Catelynn. I feel like if maybe one of those girls (Amber/Cate) made more of an effort to include her, she might start breaking down her walls.

I know it's not their job to break down Farrah's walls but, personally, I'm a fixer so I would go out of my way to include someone.

But then they'd most likely end up getting hurt since Farrah does seem to be self-destructive of her friendships.

I liked Farrah being an ass to the producers in her interview. This show is just so embarrassing for everyone involved, and I like that she doesn't play the game and just cashes her check. If they don't like it, they can fire her....oops, they already did and asked her back. I also liked to see Maci refusing to go on stage. The producers are trying to stir up shit, so good for Maci for not going along with it. If it's not in her contract, she can refuse. The same goes for Ryan, I bet MTV doesn't pay him extra to be nice, so he's not nice.

The most interesting person in this show for me is the producer who sits on Farrah's hotel room floor asking ridiculous questions. What's her life like? I want to watch a reality show about her life as a Teen Mom producer. I usually like to see production staff, but it used to be just that you might see a glimpse of a camera man, now they even film the camera men, who then understandably try to hide their faces!

I don't understand the obsession that some of these girls have with having more babies (Maci, Cate) and getting married (all of them). Good God, they are barely old enough to drink, yet most of them have been trying for babies or marriage almost from the time they popped out the first one. When I was 21, I was barely able to take care of a cat, much less a baby. And certainly not mature enough to contemplate getting married,  And after I got married and had my first child at 30, I waited 8 years to have another, because I knew I could not deal with multiple little kids/babies. I know my case is extreme, but I look at all of the TMs and want to scream haven't you learned your lesson? Why are they forcing babies and marriage so hard?  I seriously don't get it.

There are other articles, but this is just one of them.  I surely believe Cate was initially against having Farrah, but after the way Farrah went after Cate & Tyler on the Couples Therapy reunion show, I believe C&T decided to back off. During that show Farrah told them they were pretty much in the same place, not having pursued their so-called dreams after they told her what they thought of her and her "career". All of this came after the twitter feud they were having before the reunion show aired.

For as wack a doo as Farrah is, I love that she will straighten up to deliver a verbal smackdown on whoever talks shit about her.  Say what you want about Farrah, but you better be ready for her to bring it back to you.  She reminds me of me. (not the crazy part though).

I love it when shit talkers are called on the carpet.  Mean girl me to my face, not from the safety of your mean girl circle.

Exactly.

Did anyone watch Real World Miami in the 90s? There was a chick named Cynthia. OMG she was the best! She went up to her roommate who was out at a club and cheating on her boyfriend. Cynthia went right up to her and told  her straight out, "I'm gonna tell you to your face, not behind your back. You are acting like a ho!!"

Maci talked the talk, but couldn't walk the walk. She thought she was all bad as she said shit about not wanting Farrah, but she was scared (her words) and worried about being in Farrah's presence for the promotional shoot in NYC. And what does the girl do? She goes up to Farrah and hugs her, rubs her back, acts all nice. GTFO of here with that two-faced shit. I hate two-faced people with a passion. They can talk shit behind your back, but god forbid you confront them, suddenly they can't own up to what they said.

None of these girls have room to talk about ANYONE.

I've always found Farrah unlikeable but I think she's gotten much more so in the years since she was last was on Teen Mom; maybe it's all that "therapy"?   She seems incapable of having any kind of conversation with anyone - her mother, her father,  Amber, Maci, the producers,  etc.  As soon as someone says something/anything she doesn't like she cuts them off, either by talking over them or leaving the room.  No wonder she can't make any friends; I think she would be exhausting to deal with on a regular basis.

Is Amber's revelation about a $500K offer to do a porn film old news?  Because it was certainly news to me.  She said the Vivid offer  was five years ago, when she was "in her addiction".   Also, she would have just turned 18.

Cate definitely seemed a little gleeful when telling April that Farrah was not invited back. However, at least Cate hinted that she was glad Farrah was excluded because she didn't like Farrah, not because Farrah offended her strict moral code.

Stranger things have happened I guess, but this would shock me if it were true. I don't know that actual well known names get that kind of money, and sorry to say I don't think Amber would have been that huge of a draw.

Maybe it was phrased that she would get a portion of the proceeds, up to $500K?

Farrah, what a mess. All the girls on the couch looked their ages, and then Farrah looks about 45 next to them. She was so much prettier before all the plastic surgery. She acts like she isn't mad at what Maci said when they showed her, but slowly as she kept talking you could see she really was and was just trying to hide it.

Amber does look good with the purple hair and the black glasses. It's a good look for her.

Tyler used to be a cutie, but as he gets older, not so much. Nova is precious.

Maci just bores Me. She never ever seems happy.

  • Love 9

Maci is terrible. Get off your high horse, dumbass. Farrah is not in keeping with the show's message? I'm sorry, I guess I don't remember the supposed "point" of the show. Wasn't it to provide a cautionary tale, to help ensure that girls don't get pregnant before they are educated/mature/in stable relationships? And the Teen Mom who is 1) uneducated 2) not in a committed relationship and 3) PREGNANT is...Farrah? Oh, no wait. That's you, Maci. Shut the fuck up.

It's interesting, with the fourth wall being broken, seeing just how little these girls are forced to do. The producers sure do love to try and manipulate things, but it seems like the girls call the shots with a lot. I didn't have a problem with Maci not going out with just Farrah either. What was the point? They already tried one-on-one and it failed miserably. Farrah got belligerent and Maci walked out. Production clearly wanted Drama Round 2, but Maci wasn't having it. I do feel like she is intimidated by Farrah, but in this case it seemed she just saw the futility of the thing and wasn't going to be baited into being yelled out some more.

Sooooooo the thing is...S1 Teen Mom girls just aren't very smart. These are not girls who were ever destined to live interesting lives. I don't actually believe that Maci, Caitlyn, or Amber ever had ambitions beyond being a suburban housewife. The MTV money has allowed them to slip into that life a little earlier and largely skip steps that involve work, or education, or anything really. They haven't used the money to grow as people or explore the world because they don't care. They're all just painfully dull and average. Farrah, I think has a little bit more natural curiosity and drive, but she's crazy.

The thing that gets me about Maci's stance is it makes no sense. No sense at all. Maci filming without Bentley does not solve any of the issues Maci says she is worried about. It is personal and it is because Maci doesn't like Farrah. She thinks Farrah is a dirty porn slut and she doesn't like her. I think Farrah made a big mistake in filming the porn and unfair as it is, she should be prepared for it to follow her for the rest of her life. It sucks, but sometimes one decision does impact the rest of your life. BUT I have no idea why Farrah isn't supposed to take things with Maci personally when it so obviously is personal.

I can believe Amber was offered 500K for a film. I'm sure Vivid just wanted to capitalize on the 'Teen Mom' angle.

While I don't agree with Farrah's *ahem* recent career moves, she's an adult and she's free to do what she wants. Out of all of the women on this show, she seems like the only one who is driven in that regard. Everyone else just sits around on their couches in their respective homes, texting all day. Farrah has multiple streams of revenue which is pretty admirable. If TM ended tomorrow, I think she's be okay for a long time. Can't say the same for everyone else.

No Maci. Bentley's friends know you as the mother who brings boyfriend after boyfriend to live under her roof.

As far as Farrah's porn tape, I think there will be no more in her future. She did it, but won't admit to it. Now, what Maci mixes up is the porn tape and the sex toy venture. Having a line of sex toys is not the same as a porn career. Maci needs to know the difference. Just like Maci has that MILF lipstick she is advertising, Farrah is advertising sex toys. What is the difference? Aren't Bentley's friends going to ask about that? What about the fact that Maci had Bentley in that photo in that advertising?  http://starcasm.net/archives/314995

Except isn't there a "sequel" to Backdoor Teen Mom?  I could swear I remember hearing about one. Saw a little on it here (NOT SAFE FOR WORK): http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2014/02/backdoor-teen-mom-farrah-abraham-new-sex-tape/but I'm scared to look any further for fear of what my search might turn up.

I thought Maci putting Bentley in that MILF lipstick ad was absolutely nuts, especially given her latest Farrah protests. Does she know what MILF stands for???

  • Love 2

I wish Maci had stayed gone after she quit. She's so full of shit. This isn't about Bentley's welfare. She just doesn't like Farrah. It wouldn't surprise me if one of her exes watched Farrah's porn and that made Maci's head explode. Thus, her deep distaste for Farrah. Maybe she always disliked Farrah, but this level of dislike doesn't make sense to me. They only film together during reunions. What Farrah does in her life has no affect on Maci or her kids.

I'm also tired of these girls using their pregnancies as a reason why they can't deal with shit. When she said she didn't have time for Farrah because she was pregnant...wtf does that matter?

Also, when Maci and the other girls were watching the trailer for the season, Maci had a smirk on her face like she thought what she said was cute. This is one of many reasons why I've never liked Maci. She's Regina George in an acne-ridden package. That cutesy mess should've stopped long ago. I can't stand this girl. And I say "girl" because she's far from mature.

I would really enjoy a show following her too!  She's the same one who sits on "Ambie's" floor asking her questions isn't she?  Heather I think? I remember wondering how the poor woman got stuck with the two who seem like they would be the most difficult to deal with. Maybe she's the best suited for it - she does seem to do a really good job. I'd love to see "A week in the life of Heather" during filming of this show. The camera men crack me up hiding their faces. I can't say I blame them - most of them probably picked being behind the cameras for a reason. Not everyone wants to be on teevee even if they're filming it.

I think somehow all that "therapy" has fed into her superiority complex. She acts like she's better than everyone else in the world because they need therapy and she's had a bunch of therapy. As time has gone on she seems more likely to act smug and superior and shoot "if looks could kill" stare-downs, although she has also kept the "storm out of the room" technique. She has replaced some of the total freak outs with the completely fake "I have no emotions about that."  (riiiiight)  I really do feel sad for her because it's got to come from somewhere, but I can't imagine being around that all the time.

It's very rare that I'm impressed with Amber but I agree with all of this. She was very composed, calm and rational when discussing that tweet and why it hurt her feelings. I also wish that she could apply the same tactics when discussing ANYTHING with Gary. Dude must know exactly which buttons to push to set her off.

I think the only reason she didn't go off on Farrah like she does Gary is because she knows that Gary won't beat her ass. She's not sure if Farrah will or not.

Abusive assholes like Amber only pick on and abuse the people they know won't fight back.

A few things:

I have never been pregnant so I don't know.  Tyler suggested Catelyn go shop at a maternity store for a dress for the taping in New York.  Do many women continue to buy maternity clothes after they have the baby or is Tyler just an idiot?

I've never seen someone kiss their "boyfriend" the way Farrah kisses this new guy.  She baaaaarely grazes her lips against his, like seriously the lightest touch I've ever seen.  Not every kiss needs to be a full on makeout session but it looks like they can barely tolerate each other.  Is this because of her fake lips or is this because she doesn't even actually like this dude?

Farrah doesn't think she is a "porn person"?  She sells molds of her vagina.  And asshole.  What does she think that is???

Farrah- was dead on when talking about Maci being in the same place she was 6 yrs ago. Her boyfriend just is not that into her, however.

Maci- was freaked out and scared of Farrah before even landing in NYC. She isn't as tough as she lets on.

Amber- had a glass of wine in her hand while eating pizza but brags on Twitter she's 3 years sober. What???

Caitlyn- boring.

I do wear some of my maternity outfits after giving birth, especially when I'm still battling losing the baby weight. But I don't actively go purchase maternity wear when not pregnant. I felt like this was yet another one of Tyler's "subtle" digs at Cate's weight, I don't know how she doesn't slap him.

?

I think it depends on the person, how long after the birth we're talking, what their wardrobe was like before. I will say it's not crazy. I've had friends that had events scheduled really soon after giving birth that wore maternity dresses (generally for someone 4-5 months along) because they were cut in a more flattering way. For many women it's not just that they gained weight, it's how and where they gained weight. Lots of women are kind of skinny except for boobs and a bit of a belly after and maternity cloths are cut for that. On the negative side; maternity clothes are really expensive and because they are cut uniquely aren't likely to be flattering for long. All that being said, I wear my sister's old maternity bathing suite sometimes and I've never been pregnant.

  • Love 2

Matt is creppier in NYC than in Indiana. I don't know why but his creeper vibe seemed so much higher in the scenes there.

I agree.  Also, he has no where else to be?  He seems to be glued to Amber's side all the time.  I would take the free trip to NYC but I would be site seeing while she was doing press and working all day.  It creeped me out when they were interviewing Amber in her hotel room and the camera was focused on her and Matt chimed in and the camera goes to a wide shot and you realize he has been there the whole time.

I do have to say that I felt Amber did a good job explaining herself and how she felt with Farrah during the Aftershow taping.  She said what she needed to say and didn't engage with the madness.

  • Love 2

I've never been pregnant either, but I've had friends intentionally look for maternity clothing after having their kids but before losing the baby weight if they needed something nice/fancy to wear somewhere very shortly after the baby arrived. When carrying extra baby weight it seemed like they had to pick between either maternity clothes or plus-sized and the maternity stuff fit better. I didn't think the suggestion was totally out of line, but given his past comments I wondered if it was an honestly helpful suggestion or yet another dig at Catelynn.

  • Love 3
(edited)

I don't think Tyler's suggestion for maternity wear was a dig. I have quite a few pregnant friends who kept wearing maternity jeans and dresses a few months post-baby. It's hard to dress a post-baby body, particularly if you haven't lost too much weight in the midsection.

A total aside, but I remember finding the cutest empire-waist dress at Nordstrom on clearance and it had gorgeous lace detailing. I tried it on ad as I am pear shaped, it fit very nicely. Of course, I realized when I got home that the dress was from a maternity line. Heh...it was still a really cute dress.

I'm sort of thinking the wine may have been like a sparkling cider or something. Cate was drinking it too. I know nursing moms at allowed some alcohol but I don't think Tyler would allow Cate to drink. It's fattening. I think the two of them felt very grown up using the big girl glasses.

I really wanted to give Amber the benefit of the doubt so I looked at it pretty closely, and I didn't see any bubbles so I don't think it was soda or sparkling cider. I also think Maci would've had a glass if it was something non-alcoholic. I agree I don't think Tyler would "allow" Catelynn to drink, but the girls were mostly on their own at that point so I thought maybe it was a rebellious thing too. I'm probably putting way too much thought into it. I just want to see Amber succeed and it bummed me out to see this.

  • Love 2

But it does have to do with Farrah, that is what has been pointed out numerous times by Maci.

Maci wasn't being polite herself when she had her fit over Farrah coming back. In fact, she came off very immature, like a child having a tantrum. If there is one thing I hate, is someone who can't back their shit up and that is Maci. She is all tough and mighty to the producers, but she can't throw down when faced with the person with whom she had a problem.

I think why I don't feel that Maci needed to explain herself directly to Farrah is because of the way the initial reaction happened, with the producers deliberately delivering the news on camera to use for the show (and getting the reaction they wanted most from Maci, and using it for every promo).  Again, good TV and all, but it *was* shitty that the producers basically ambushed them with the news in hopes of getting a rise out of them.  If the other girls and Tyler had anything negative to say, they just managed to hold it together and not say it on camera.  Of course it came off as mean when she said that initially, and the repeated further comments and "quitting" drama made it much worse, but Farrah is correct in saying that this has more to do with Maci's own shit than it does with Farrah's life choices.  Yes, Maci was being overdramatic and petty about the situation, but I just think that you can express dislike of someone or their actions and still be civil around them in, let's face it, a work environment.  I don't recall her ever denying anything she'd said, she just wasn't being outright nasty in person like Farrah was being.  Farrah didn't actually want to hear the explanation she asked for anyway, she just said it to get back at Maci.  I don't blame her for being upset, but I don't think Farrah's method of dealing with conflict is any more helpful than Maci trying to pretend everything is fine, and she ended up alienating more people.

I think Maci's real concern isn't actually about Bentley's classmates, it's about their parents who could potentially mistake her for "the one who did porn" - it wouldn't actually make a difference whether Farrah is on the show now, since people would know about it regardless if they know anything about Teen Mom, but it's obviously way more about her own image than anything Bentley would have to deal with.

  • Love 6

LOL @ the idea that Maci is so concerned about being confused with the "porn girl" when she has had how many guys under her roof? I am not laughing at anyone here. Just the way Maci is sooooo concerned about some image that she herself, has built up inside of her head. The reality is, she has a questionable reputation. She is the one who is going around lecturing people about using protection to avoid pregnancy while she uses the "oops" method in order to snag a lifetime partner.

There is no way anyone would confuse Maci with Farrah. People who watch the show, know who Farrah is. Even if they don't watch, but are familiar with the show, know who Farrah is. I never watched Jersey Shore, but I could tell you who Snooki was, and not get her confused with any of the other girls on the show simply because of her reputation.

If it was about the parents, Maci would say so, but she isn't.  She is using her child because in her mind, it gives her so-called reason, some validity. Just like the politicians who pick up the little children to make themselves look good and forthright.

it's about their parents who could potentially mistake her for "the one who did porn"

So, how does removing Bentley from the show accomplish this? Maci is still on the show with the porn girl? Maci has been on this show since 2009. That is six years of Maci acting a fool on this show. I think people can differentiate between the girl with the massive forehead who is now promoting her MILF lipstick versus the girl who did porn.

Maci stayed with the show because of $$$$.

I don't think Tyler would allow Cate to drink. It's fattening.

Yet, they ate pizza how many times during that NYC promotion?

Petition to fire Farrah.

How about a petition to get rid of the entire TM franchise?

I totally agree with all of this, that's just my guess about what she's really worried about.  Regardless of her reasoning, acting like it's about Bentley is just a way of trying to make it look like she's on a moral high ground.  All of her arguments are full of holes in the context of her own life.

At this point I think all these girls are on the show for the money and the money gigs the 'fame' has provided for them.   It's more money than any of them would be making at this point in their lives.  Without the income from this show,  Catelyn and Tyler would be struggling financially and I have no idea how Amber would pay her bills from the sofa.  No one would be paying Maci to speak to teen girls or Farrah to appear at adult events.   Because of MTV they have more money than they would have otherwise, but I think they are (Maci in particular) realizing they have sold their privacy in exchange for it.  MTV owns these girls.

Maci is terrible. Get off your high horse, dumbass. Farrah is not in keeping with the show's message?

Where do you think Maci got this line? From MTV! THEY made the decision not to bring Farrah back, not Maci or any of the other girls, because they felt Farrah's career in porn was contrary to the show's message. Apparently the teen pregnancy rate in the country has fallen pretty dramatically since the show debuted, and they have frequently played this up and taken credit for it, at least partially. I'm not defending Maci here, especially since she had unprotected sex and got pregnant with a new boyfriend, which is most definitely against the show's message! But I'm angry that MTV has used Maci as a scapegoat in this saga to cover up their shenanigans. They started the shows - 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom - to show the difficulties and sacrifices of life as a teen mom, but because they became so popular and profit-making, they kept filming. So the show then became about what's best for MTV (a successful franchise, ratings, money), as opposed to any kind of social responsibility, and it pisses me off that they don't own up to this, and instead throw it all on the girls.

Please someone correct be if I'm wrong - but I'm thinking based on what's been shown ON THE SHOW Amber seems to be the only mom who hasn't tried to throw massive shade at the other mom's life choices to try to pump her own ego or "brand". I find it disturbing on so many levels to type the follow - is it possible she's the only one with the self awareness to know that the life choice comparison game is just not one she can win or to say to herself - 'shit we're all in this for the money and I'm not going to pretend I'm better than anyone else because it let's me feel better about cashing my check'.  I don't know. It's just so odd. Seriously if I had known nothing about Amber's past I would have watched this episode and thought she seemed so much more level-headed than the other girls even with her creepy daddy-fiancé. Is the universe crumbling? Thinking this way makes me feel like I need to eat a snickers and go lie down.

I'm betting the pizza thing was probably producer driven....cos NYC is famous for "good" pizza. And it's cheap. Same way Philly is about cheesesteaks. Also, to be honest I am doubting any of these girls have any sort of refined palate so I'm sure stuff like pizza and hot pretzels are fine fare for them, especially if they're not footing the bills. I'm not sure I've ever seen any of them actually cook out of anything other than a microwave, except maybe one time when Farrah had to make some dish for her culinary class....though that was an assignment. I am betting she's more of a take-out kind of girl, IRL. She probably thinks it's fancier.

Didn't get around to watching last night but sounds like another clusterfuck. Woohoo TM! Keepin' it classy.

I think I remember that. Was the ho named Flora?

Cate is probably one of the least offensive of the TMs, but watching that girl eat makes me almost lose my dinner. She's so gross when she eats.

Watching the preview for next week and seeing Tyler getting onto Cate about dieting for the wedding makes me want to throw a shoe at him. Get it through your skull, Ty, Catelynn isn't half as bothered by her weight as you are. I don't think it's okay, and she's setting a bad example for her daughter, but Cate ain't gonna do a whole lot about it. If she wasn't willing to do it while she was pregnant with gestational diabetes, what makes you think she's gonna be all into now?? If she can manage to take off even 15 lbs I think she'll be happy with that. What an ass -- you're no prize, Tyler.

I had a post all nicely laid out with the accompanying quotes to credit the posters and it disappeared into the ether! So frustrating. From memory:

Regarding Amber and porn, I remember reading when the offer was made, but not the amount. I think TMZ released it (they have some tie-in to Vivid) and Amber confirmed the offer and that she declined. It was a long time ago, but I remember her being adamant about never doing it. $500k probably did include the back end deals, which is probably where Farrah got that she would make 1 million. During one of her fake cries on Couples Therapy she talked about how she signed a contract and was screwed. I think by that point she realized she wasn't going to make what she thought, and that she wouldn't make anything on the other release because the contract said that was owned completely by Vivid. I also think that is why Dr. Jenn cried with Farrah; the horror of being screwed out of money. :)

Regarding Maci and kids knowing more than we give them credit for, that was the point I was trying to make about 1am. The friends parents probably won't let them watch it, and won't explain porn to them, but will be talking about Maci complaining about it, like we are. She is the reason they will associate her with porn, if it happens at all.

Maci seems to use her pregnancy and motherhood as an excuse for everything. She was rude to Taylor in the restaurant because she's pregnant, and I think her friend at a restaurant also. I didn't watch those episodes, I just read the posts discussing it here.

When production sat Farrah down to watch the Maci clip, she noted the extra people around Maci and said something about the people. She seemed to know it was a set-up for Maci. But then, she decided to confront Maci at lunch for being there after she quit. I think the two-faced nature of it just got to her and she can barely keep her trap shut anyway, especially when she feels disrespected.
